This is an iHeart podcast.
The question is, do you all believe that this student loan program is fully paid for?
We do believe it will be fully paid for because of the work that this president has done with the economy.
Those of you who love this country, Democrats, Independents, mainstream Republicans, we must be stronger, more determined, and more committed to saving America than the MAGA Republicans are destroying America.
Freedom is back in style.
Welcome to the Revolution.
Yeah, we are coming to your city.
Going to play our guitars and saying you a contra salt.
Sean Hannity, the new Sean Hannity Show.
More behind-the-scenes information on breaking news and more bold, inspired solutions for America.
This is a special edition of the Sean Hannity Show.
America Trapped Behind Enemy Lines.
Day number 380.
Stay right here for our final news roundup and information overload.
All right, news roundup, information overload.
Our Sean Hannity show, 800-941.
Sean, if you want to be a part of the program now, we've been focused on the Senate races.
Senator Rubio down in Florida, Herschel Walker in Georgia, Ted Budd, North Carolina.
We got South Carolina, which is in play.
I see no trouble for Tim Scott.
We're watching Ron Johnson closely.
They've dumped tens of millions of dollars to destroy him.
The left has doing the same thing to JD Vance in Ohio, the same thing to Dr. Oz in Pennsylvania.
We're watching what happens.
Eric Schmidt, who was on the program last week in Missouri.
We've got Laxalt out in Nevada, who's doing very well.
Blake Masters can definitely play in the state of Arizona.
We're also looking at some other states.
I don't want to ignore, after the last election, I was kicking myself.
Now, we did spend time on it, but we didn't spend enough time on it.
And that was the New Jersey gubernatorial race.
And I wish we did because we might have been able to change the outcome of that race had we put more attention on it.
So I don't want to make that mistake a second time.
So we're looking at some of the other races around the country.
We're going to be looking into New Hampshire, the state of Washington, and we're looking today at the great state of Colorado, Rocky Mountain High.
Anyway, Joe O'Day is running against Michael Bennett for the Senate seat out there.
This is a recent ad that he put out.
Let's get America moving forward.
I'm not a politician.
I'll work for Colorado.
Joe washed dishes here at Piccolo's and worked his way through school.
Joe wasn't always the boss.
He started as a union carpenter and worked his way up.
Everyone in Washington votes the party line.
Joe won't.
He doesn't care about partisanship.
He'll represent Colorado.
I'm Joe O'Day.
I approve his message.
I'm not focused on political parties.
I'll do what's right for our country.
All right, Joe O'Day running for the Republican seat in the great state of Colorado.
Joins us now.
So I'm listening to your ad, and I'm like, oh my gosh, you're like my twin brother.
I started out when I was 12 years old washing dishes by hand in a busy restaurant every Friday, Saturday, Sunday night.
Did every job possible in a restaurant.
Then started as a painting contractor and moved on to wallpaper and laying tile and reconstruction and did that for about 10 years of my life.
So we have a lot in common.
How are you, sir?
I'm very good, Sean.
Thanks for having me on today.
I really appreciate it.
I've been watching you for years, listening to you on the radio when I'm in my pickup truck and a working guy like yourself.
It's great to be with you today.
Listen, it's a hard state.
I would say it's probably dark purple leaning blue, the state of Colorado.
That was not always the case.
What happened to Colorado?
Why did it turn?
Well, you know, we just got lazy here.
We weren't focused on working Americans.
We took our eye off the ball, and we've got terrible policies that have brought us just completely to the brink of disaster here, both nationally and here in Colorado.
We've got a Democratic House, Democratic governor, Democratic Senate, and the policies here are crushing working Americans.
And so it's time.
People are upset.
We're talking about the issues here in Colorado that are important to working Americans.
It's inflation.
It's the cost of gas.
It's record crime.
I mean, Colorado is leading the nation in auto thefts.
Crazy stuff.
And so people are upset, and they're ready to get our state back.
And that's why I jumped into this race.
All right.
So you're in this race, and I saw Trafalgar in that poll, and I'm like, wow, this is a pretty tight margin, tight enough to say that there is a strong possibility you can really make a run for it here in Colorado.
We've been focused on Michael Bennett since we got in this race.
I had a tough primary.
As you probably have heard, Schumer's PAC dumped $10 million into my race, trying to show me as a moderate that could, you know, and the other guy was running against as the too conservative for Colorado, trying to push voters there.
And so he came out on the bottom.
They actually got me.
So Schumer's money pushed me to the middle.
And now they're trying to tear me apart with saying I'm too far to the right again.
So they're confused.
They don't know what to do with my candidacy because I'm running on the issues that are important to working Coloradans.
So I'm looking at this Trafalgar poll.
Let me ask you about this Brian.
How do you say his last name?
Potter or Piotr, something like that.
He's running, I guess, as a libertarian out there.
And my guess he's taking votes away from you, not from Michael Bennett.
If you put your numbers together with his, and he only has 5.2%, that would put you in the position of defeating Bennett.
Who is this guy?
And is he being funded by Democrats?
Well, I don't know.
I'm not too worried about it.
I've got my message.
We're running one strong campaign here.
People are paying attention to us.
I've built a hell of a coalition.
We've got good Trump supporters, got good GOP supporters.
We've got Colorado's 45% unaffiliated.
We've got those guys coming on board.
And I've even got some Democrats that have donated to my campaign because they know that I can move this state forward.
We're excited about the run.
I don't really have any idea who the guy is.
So we'll just keep focused on Michael Bennett.
That's who we're going to beat.
We believe we can take back this Senate seat here in November.
I agree, but let me stay focused on this for one more second.
This guy's running as a libertarian.
He's got 5% of the vote in this poll.
If you add your percentage with his, you're winning this race.
And I want to know why a guy that has no shot at winning is doing this because Democrats have been playing games all over the country in primaries, et cetera, et cetera, trying to help get primary candidates that they believe would be more easy to defeat.
So do you see any shenanigans going on here at all?
Well, it wouldn't be the first time.
This is the same thing they did in my primary.
You know, they tried to pick a candidate that would have been a cupcake, and they could have beat him very easily.
They weren't successful.
They're already throwing money at my character here and trying to call me names and call me a bad employer and talk about issues that just aren't true about me personally.
They'll do whatever they can.
It's disingenuous.
It's dishonest.
But that's who we're dealing with when we talk about Democrats across this nation.
And we'll persevere.
Sean, I've been an underdog my entire life.
I'm used to it.
This is what we do.
We just outwork people, and I'll outwork these guys.
They will not be able to quell my message.
I'm going to make sure I get it out there and I talk to people about what's important because it resonates.
And we're going to win here in November.
I'm very confident.
All right.
So let's talk about who you are and what you believe.
If you ask me how I describe myself politically, you said you've listened to this program.
I'm a Reagan, Make America Great Again, American First Conservative.
How would you describe yourself and what are the issues that you think the people of Colorado are most focused on this election?
I loved Ronald Reagan and I love peace through strength.
I mean, I thought he did a lot of great things for our country.
That's actually the first president I was old enough to vote for.
So it was an extremely great time in my life.
I thought he did a lot of great things.
I call myself the same.
I'm fiscally very, very conservative.
I'm one of those guys that wants to do the right thing for America.
I want to make sure that we have this dream that my wife and I have been so blessed to have lived here in Colorado.
We've started with nothing.
We built a construction company here in Colorado that employs 300 families across the metro.
We've been working here all our lives.
And so we've been able to live our dream.
And I want to make sure that our kids, our grandkids can live that same dream.
We've got to get government out of the way.
We need to cut back the red tape.
We need to quit the spending.
It's causing record-level inflation.
We need to get this border closed.
I mean, fentanyl coming across, killing our kids.
Those are the things that I'm focused on.
I want to make sure that we lower inflation, lower the price of gas, and get this crime under control.
It's really not that complicated, is it?
You know, I always say conservatism is pretty simple.
Liberty, freedom, capitalism, our Constitution, lower taxes, less government influence on our lives, secure borders, energy independence, law and order, safety and security for every town, every city.
We need choice in schools.
Get rid of the stranglehold on our kids with this unholy alliance between Democrats and teachers' unions.
And you're right, peace through strength is at the top of the list.
Do you think the people of Colorado are sick of this now, that they're ready to make the change?
I really believe they are.
I've been to 60 of the 64 counties here across Colorado, got to see just how big Colorado is.
We put over 55,000 miles on the car since October.
We've been working hard.
And everywhere I go, whether they're good, staunch Republicans or Independents or even some Democrats, they're fed up with the direction of this country.
And they want change.
They want common sense back in our government.
They want common sense back in our decisions.
They're ready to turn the Democrats off and get rid of some of these socialistic programs that these guys have put together.
Paying, you know, we got good working Americans here.
Now we're going to be saddled with somebody else's tuition debt.
People won't stand for it, and they can't stand for it.
That's why we're going to see this big red wave here in November.
It's coming.
I'm telling you, people are fed up.
What is it about Michael Bennett that people dislike the most?
You know, if you're an incumbent and you're as below 40 as he is, and the most recent poll is anywhere between 45 and 46, 47, whatever it is.
And I'm wondering, what is it about Colorado that, you know, the majority of voters don't want him to go back?
Well, he's got a track record, right?
And that track record is well documented.
He votes with his party 98% of the time.
He's referred to as the do-nothing senator here.
And a lot of people question whether he's Colorado Senator or he's somewhere back east because he's never around.
When I'm out on the trail here on the eastern plains and on the western slope, I've had to explain to them who I'm running against.
They don't even know his name.
And so he just doesn't exist here for Colorado.
He hasn't pushed Colorado first.
I've been completely dissatisfied with his voting record.
He could have done a Joe Mansion and dug in his heels here and got Space Command left here in Colorado.
But instead, he just votes with his party.
He's with Biden 98% of the time.
And that's what people across our state are recognizing.
You know, I'll tell you right now, Americans are suffering.
And every indication is now we're in the middle of a housing recession on top of record-high inflation, the regular recession, on top of record-high energy prices, and things I see.
Now, if we have a food shortage on top of it, these are going to be very, very tough economic times.
And I hope the people of Colorado, I hope the state comes in play.
And I hope you become the next senator from the great state of Colorado because we need some upset states like yours.
We need an upset win.
Has the Republican leadership, have they gotten behind you?
Are they supporting you financially?
They are.
We've got a great partnership going on with the Republican Party, both the state and the NRSC back in Washington.
They're fired up.
They're fired up about my election and this campaign and exactly where it's at.
Sean, I'm a contractor.
I've got 300 families that count on me at my company, so I'm used to shouldering it.
And I've got no problem shouldering the load.
And I'll make a promise to your listeners: if they can chip in 20 bucks or whatever they can at Joe O'Day, J-O-E-O-D-E-A dot com, I'm going to flip this Senate seat.
I'm a working guy.
No one's ever outworked me.
I'm going to beat Michael Bennett.
I'm going to give working Americans a voice here in the United States Senate, and I'm going to take the fight to Joe Biden.
They can count on me.
The Republican Party needs to be the party of working men and women, the working class in this country, because that's the forgotten man and the forgotten women.
That's what got Donald Trump elected, and hopefully we'll get you elected in Colorado.
Joe O'Day, we have a very similar background.
It's a little eerie, but we wish you the best.
We're going to follow your race, and I hope people pay attention out in Colorado because Michael Bennett hasn't lifted a finger for you except he just voted to raise your taxes and pay off other kids' student debt.
And he votes 99% of the time with Chucky Schumer.
I mean, that's all you really need to know.
All right.
Thanks, Joe.
Thanks, John.
I really appreciate being on with you.
American Financing, NMLS, 182334, NMLSConsumerAccess.org.
Don Kerry, making America green one Learjet liberal flight at a time.
You just can't make this stuff up.
John Hannity is on right now.
We have a lot of other news we've got to cover in the final half hour coming up.
We'll get to your calls also.
800-941-Sean, our number.
If you want to be a part of the program, what is it?
Why are you looking at me with those?
You know, I just was curious.
You know, we did a lot of talking last week about this big wedding and this big speech you were going to give.
And I was just curious how it all went down with, you know, your future and present liberal in-laws here and if they loved everything about you.
I mean, you know, I'm just curious.
I had a lot of work to do.
I did a lot of work this weekend, unfortunately.
Oh, yeah.
Were you attending bar?
What are you doing?
Before I go on my Labor Day vacation, well, you know what else I got to do?
Yeah.
This is one of these pain in the you-know-what weeks.
Yes, it is.
Major pain in the ass.
We'll take a break.
We'll come back.
Linda will grill me about the wedding that I loved going to when we come back on the other side.
We'll open the phone's final half hour, 800-941-Sean, our number.
You want to be a part of the program.
Check out the show 24-7.
Download it to your iPod.
Be a Hannity Insider at Hannity.com.
I'm 25 to the top of the hour.
We'll get to your calls here in a second.
Linda has a lot of questions for me.
All right.
Go ahead.
It was a very, very, very busy weekend.
Was it inside or outside?
Inside mostly.
Okay, that's good because it was a little hot.
The wedding itself was on the outside.
I would have preferred it not be a super spreader event and not be on the NBA outside the whole time.
Oh, good grief.
Okay, so tell me, did you wear your Hannity tuxedo?
Did you actually wear a suit?
I wore a suit.
You did?
Did you take pictures so we can frame it?
Because I don't think it's going to help you.
The few people I let take pictures, I say, don't post them.
Well, that's what you're saying.
I'm taking pictures.
I make them promise.
I've said that my whole life.
Yes, you have.
Always.
But the point is, I had to do it.
So I didn't really think about it.
I just did what I had to do.
And there was a little bit of nervousness and trepidation and concern.
Not everybody on one family side particularly liked me or my politics.
But isn't it unfortunate that they're judging whether or not they like you or not by your politics?
No, actually, they were very receptive.
And so I was the cleanup anchor speaker at the night.
What did you think, Sweet Baby James?
What would you give it one out of 10?
No, in terms of how well was my speech, my toast received.
You have to answer.
It's radio.
Seven, eight?
Seven?
I feel so bad.
Sweet baby's trying to be nice.
He's like, maybe a phone.
It was at 10.
What are you talking about?
What I did.
I put a little scare into everybody.
I made everybody think that I was going to go there.
And what did you do?
Do nothing, just say long, happy life together.
Please raise your glass and get them moving.
Nope.
I dragged it out as long as I could possibly drag it out.
Did you talk early in the night?
No, my son got mad at me because I dragged him into it as part of the bit.
It was like an, and he goes, that never happened.
I know.
Well, I was just embellishing just to make the story better.
I kind of love that, actually.
Well, he's coming to his own too, though, now.
He talks.
He's, you know.
Yeah, he talks.
He says, did you have to pick me?
That's what his answer was.
I'm like, yeah, because you'd be the most likely to be honest with me and people made you the most believable or most.
100%.
But so did you do it early in the night or late in the night?
Oh, no, it was later in the night.
Were you still half beheading Hannity or did you have a couple?
It was an entire extravaganza that goes on for days.
I mean, it can't be the way it was back in the day, right?
You can't just have a wedding.
But the night before, you got the rehearsal.
Then you have the practices, and then this, and that.
And then you have the brunch the day after the wedding.
What you really want to do is sleep.
Okay, they can't be a brunch when the wedding was 5 o'clock on a Sunday.
Oh, was it really?
Oh, geez.
The worst time ever.
I'm looking at my nephew.
I'm like, what the hell are you thinking?
Why would he get married on a Sunday?
I don't care that he got married on a Sunday.
Can you do it at 10 a.m. so I can have the rest of the day free?
Okay, first of all, nobody likes a day wedding because nobody dances in the daylight, as far as I know, anyways.
Unless you're on a nightmare.
I will tell you this.
It made me think of you.
The band was phenomenal.
Oh, really?
That's awesome.
Did they have a big band, like a huge one?
Big band, horns, you name it.
They had it all.
Oh, that's awesome.
They really had it going on.
That's really good.
It reminded me a lot of your band.
It was that good.
Yeah, if anybody's looking for a great band on Long Island, East Coast, they're awesome.
And they were really happy.
I walked up and I talked to a number of the band members.
I said, I've been to a lot of weddings.
I used to attend bar at weddings.
I worked at a wedding factory.
Did you get behind the bar?
No, I didn't.
I didn't.
You didn't?
No, but the bartenders love me because I kept getting everyone drinks.
And every time I get a drink, I drop a 20 in the cup.
Yeah, but you always get behind the bar.
But they kept hiding the tip cup underneath the bar.
And I'm like, no, put it here.
Oh, they get really weird about that.
Was it a country club?
Yeah, it was a country club.
Yeah, they're real weird about the tipping at the country clubs.
They don't let you tip.
I don't know why.
It's super weird.
It's always been like that.
I'm like, can you please leave it there?
And at one point, the boss comes by.
Can we leave this here just for this one?
Don't have to go searching for it every time.
That's actually kind of funny.
Well, I'm glad you had a nice time.
I hope they have a long, happy marriage.
They will.
Actually, a great couple.
And I'm happy for both of them.
It wasn't as bad.
Once I'm locked in mentally, I'm all right.
Who did the best dancing?
Was it you or your son or your daughter?
Or who was it?
Let's go to Jack in Pennsylvania.
Jack, how are you?
You're on the Sean Hannity show.
Hey, Jack.
Hey, Sean.
Listen, I want to blame Biden for all of this and the student loan debacle.
But at the end of the day, fundamentally, I blame the Republican Party.
The student loan issue is not something that just came up.
It has been going on for 20 years.
The solutions are simple.
Simply allow student loan debt to be discharged in bankruptcy like it once was.
Student loan debt is the only debt you can't get rid of.
The other options, because as a country, we say we value education and an educated society, have student loans zero interest if you graduate.
That way, instead of paying 6%, 7%, 9%, there are people taking out $20,000 loans.
Why should banks be giving out money and not making money on it?
I mean, you're giving me a socialist answer here.
Listen, banks are in business to make money.
Banks make money.
And look, you can do bank shopping.
There are some banks that offer lower rates on their credit cards.
There are better deals out there if you look for them.
And you could look up people like Clark Howard and Dave Ramsey.
They give good economic advice from what I can tell.
And they'll tell you how to do all of those things.
But if you're going to borrow money and you agree to borrow the money and you freely enter into a deal to borrow money at X interest rate, which has been low for the last however many years, a long time now, 10 years, then you should have to pay it back.
To me, expecting others to pay it back for you is unfair.
And it disproportionately benefits people from means.
It totally ignores people that go into really important trades.
I mean, what would life be like without carpenters and plumbers and electricians and so on and so forth?
They don't get any benefit out of this.
But they should.
This is what we say.
We talk about.
How about no, they should.
How about we have limited government?
How about we stop thinking the government is the answer to all of our problems?
How about we embrace the concept of freedom with a safety net for those people that are truly in need?
How about that?
Those days have long failed away is the problem.
And you cannot argue that education is important.
Right.
So if you want an education, you have other choices.
You don't have to go to Harvard.
You don't have to go to MIT.
You don't have to go to an expensive school to get a good quality education.
I'm a lawyer.
I went back to school 15 years after I graduated law school to get a second doctorate.
My wife is a pharmacy manager.
She's paid off her student loans.
I paid off mine.
This doesn't benefit me, but I've been in college long enough to see, both be in it and now teach it somewhat.
To see that so many of these students graduate with such an onerous amount of debt.
An 18-year-old does not understand what $120,000 looks like.
So then why are they going to the expense of college?
Why aren't they going to the community college or the state college?
That's Penn State.
No, no, look, but you're not listening to me.
There are colleges that are far less expensive than so-called colleges with esteem associated with their names that usually have these massive endowments.
Anyway, why don't you go to your local community college for two years and then finish out your degree at the school of your choice?
And by the way, I worked throughout my college years.
Why don't you work during your college years instead of going to frat parties?
I did.
I worked.
I understand.
But at the same time, there was a time in American history, and it was less than 100 years ago, that loans were zero interest before the Federal Reserve, before the current system of insanity.
Okay, but you're dealing with something in a concept that will never be a reality.
And the reality is, is interest rates are higher than they've been in many years and going even higher.
Now the question is, are they willing to sacrifice what it's going to take to pay back a loan to go to a more quote prestigious school?
I would highly recommend that they work during the time they go to school, just like I did, and that they go to a school that is far more affordable.
And then if they want to transfer after two years to a better school with their grades up, let them make the transfer, but also the sacrifice that goes along with it.
I mean, except the federal government now is in charge of all student loans.
So now all that interest being paid is not benefiting your bank.
It's going to the federal government.
Well, they're guaranteeing these loans, which is what the problem is.
And the federal government, look, I'm not against student loans in as much as if this is what people want to do, the path they want to take, fine.
But if you go into an agreement freely and you say you'll pay that money back, you ought not expect others to pay it.
I can't make it any more simple.
Anyway, I appreciate it, Jack.
Bob is in Kansas.
What's up, Bob?
Hello, Sean.
This is Bob, and I appreciate you taking the call, and we appreciate what you do there.
Your color screener told me to be direct and to the point fast, so I'll talk as quickly as I can.
What I don't think they understand, and what I don't think we were seeing last week after Wednesday about this federal loan forgiveness program was that the reason why Nancy Pelosi called it bold, the reason why Elizabeth Warren was smiling, that AOC didn't have any issue to take with this, is that they got what they wanted.
And this better become an election issue this fall.
They are forgiving between one and one and a half trillion dollars worth of loans.
And the Wharton School business at Penn finally came up with $1 trillion this week on Monday morning.
But we're talking, they were talking a $300 billion program.
It's between $1 and $1.7 trillion.
We owe $1.7 trillion now in student loans.
When you look at the income-driven repayment plan, when Biden changed it last week to 5% with loan forgiveness, $10,000 right up front, you have 10 years to pay if you go into federal work or charity work or first responder work.
It's a 10-year forgiveness program.
If you pay 5%, and this is the important part, of your discretionary income, nurses making $77,000 a year are going to pay $61 a month in their payback program.
If you do the math over 10 years, that's $7,000, and they have anywhere from $40,000 to $250,000 in debt.
At the end of the 10 years, it's paid off in full.
And payments that are zero count to your 10 years or 120 payments, even if they're zero.
The reality is we can't afford the new Green Deal.
You notice Nancy Pelosi said, Joe doesn't have the power and authority to do this, but he did it anyway.
They're literally bypassing the checks and balances of co-equal branches of government to do these things.
The other reality is we cannot afford it.
The next reality is disproportionately, if you look at Biden inflation, who has it impacted the most?
The poor, the middle class, people on fixed incomes.
I started the program today.
What did I talk about?
The number of Americans, quote, suffering has now reached the highest point since the data began to be recorded, according to a new poll from Gallup.
And then if you take it a step further, you go an inch deeper.
And what the farmers that call this show are telling us and what the truckers are telling us and what the ranchers are telling us is that we're about to pay a fortune more in food.
And if Europe is any indication of what's going to happen to America when it comes to the price of energy, you better hold on because it's going to get really, really dark and really, really ugly.
And unless we make a 180-degree turnaround on energy and economic policy, these problems now are going to stick with us for many years to come.
And John.
No doubt about it.
What's especially worrisome is that exactly like you said, that a president can commit $1 to $1.7 trillion with a simple speech and a stroke of the pen.
And the reason why they're smiling is that they knew what he did.
