Time Text
Of course I recognized it as a trick question.
Of course I recognized the trick.
A guy called me and wanted, well, do you look at liberals as a greater threat to American way of life than terrorists?
Because it was a trick, right?
Trying to trick the hook.
Look, that's why I launched into an unassailable explanation of freedom, folks.
It's so, it's so simple.
You know, I hear the Democrats talk about pro-choice.
There's no such thing.
They don't believe in choice.
It's the exercise of choice that ticks them off.
By the way, great to have you.
It's a thrill and delight to be here.
Telephone number is 800-282-2882 and the email address, lrushbaw at eibnet.com.
But if you wanted me to take the question seriously, just as a responding to the trick, very simply, terrorism still remains the greater threat.
Terrorism, liberalism, despite similarities in ideology.
Similarities, ideology, not practice, but ideology.
There's no question that terrorism is the greater threat of the two because we can still defeat liberals without having to resort to violence.
We're never going to be able to beat the terrorists in a nonviolent way.
That just isn't going to happen.
But in this vein, I just want to point out, folks, look at our ambassador is dead.
Three Marines are dead in Benghazi.
And who does Obama blame?
An American.
A guy who filmed a video that nobody saw, including the attackers.
And by the way, the truth of this is now well known.
Every day, there's more information about who knew what when regarding that attack in Benghazi.
And now it's out that we had numerous warnings prior to the attack on our consulate and the death of our ambassador.
We had numerous warnings.
And for eight days, Obama lied and sent his people out to lie.
And the media propagandized the lie, trying to blame this Coptic Christian and his Looney Tunes video.
So given the opportunity to blame terrorism for something they did, terrorists for something they did versus an American, what did Obama do?
For eight days, he tried to make everybody think, us in this country and around the world, that an American using our First Amendment was responsible for that.
That is highly insulting and reprehensible.
But it's a sign of the times.
I have to sit here and tell people that Obama's presidency is a failed president.
That ought to be as obvious as the sun coming up.
But it isn't.
Apparently not, not to everybody.
I wonder if the politico is going to commend me for my prescience.
Well, back on Wednesday, September 26th, why are you laughing?
Well, back on Wednesday, September 26th, they tweeted that I said that voters should ignore bogus swing state polls that show Obama pulling away from Romney.
And then that linked to Rush Limbaugh, polls attempt voter suppression.
Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that voters should ignore bogus swing state polls that show President Obama pulling away from Romney, blaming pollsters for, well, two days later, they came out with their swing state poll.
And there were three of them.
And it had Obama up 10 or 11 in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida.
And then we learned the next week, which would be yesterday or the day before, we learned that the Washington Post poll had a margin of error plus or minus eight.
And they polled 160 people to show Obama up 10 in Ohio.
Or maybe it was 12 in Pennsylvania.
It was CBS in Ohio.
So on Wednesday, I told you to ignore the swing state polls, and I was right.
And the Politico tweeted it all out there that I was telling people to ignore them.
You think I'm going to get a commendation?
Ha.
You think they're going to recall their tweets?
Ha.
But I just wanted to point it out to you that it is out there.
Vice President Bite Me said the middle class has been buried the last four years at a campaign event in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This happened yesterday.
In fact, a couple sound bites here.
Let me see.
I want to start with the Democrat Convention.
I'm going to go back to September 6th, in Charlotte, actually.
This is President Obama during his acceptance speech.
And Joe Biden, thank you for being the very best vice president I could have ever hoped for and being a strong and loyal friend.
Yeah, right in.
This is what he gets for it.
This is deadly earnest, man.
This is deadly earnest.
How they can justify, how they can justify raising taxes in the middle class has been buried the last four years.
How in Lord's name?
So he just indicts his own administration.
He indicts Obama.
He indicts the last four years of the regime as having buried the middle class and then compounds it with a lie that Romney's going to raise taxes on the middle class.
Romney is not going to raise taxes.
This is a huge lie, by the way, that Obama's getting away with.
If anybody's going to raise taxes on anybody, it's Obama, and he's telling everybody he's going to do it.
He's already done it with the mandate for health care.
You're either going to pay a fine or you're going to have insurance.
I don't matter what your income level.
You don't get an exemption from that.
16,000 new IRS agents to make sure that you either have health insurance or you pay the fine on your tax return.
It's a tax to the Supreme Court.
They tried to say it wasn't a tax.
It was a penalty, a fee.
What an unadulterated mess.
It's Obama raising taxes.
It isn't Romney.
So here Bite Me out there, whoa, this is deadly earnest, man.
The middle class, the middle class has been buried the last four years.
That ought to sink them.
And here's Paul Ryan yesterday.
Burlington, Iowa, had a reaction to it.
Vice President Biden just today said that the middle class over the last four years has been, quote, buried.
We agree.
That means we need to stop digging by electing Mitt Romney, the next president of the United States.
Of course the middle class has been buried.
They're being buried by regulations.
They're being buried by taxes.
They're being buried by borrowing.
They're being buried by the Obama administration's economic failures.
They're being buried by rising gasoline prices.
Somehow they don't associate with Obama.
The answer to that is simple.
Folks, I hate pointed out because it's not, I'm not whining.
But when gas prices were going up with Bush, that's all anybody saw.
And when troops are being killed in Iraq, that's all anybody saw.
In fact, the media was trying to tell the people this country, we were in a recession in 2007 when the unemployment rate was 5%.
So it did a pounded day and day and day, but the gas price going up, media doesn't talk about it.
In fact, one of the stories we get about the gas price.
You know, it's the new normal.
This is what we need to get used to.
They don't think it's going to hurt Obama if they don't report it in a certain way.
Jay Leno last night wanted to get in on this Biden business.
I love this.
At a campaign rally in Charlotte, Vice President Joe Biden said, the middle class has been buried the past four years.
They're buried.
I'm sorry, which candidate is he campaigning for?
I'm confused.
Exactly.
They're being buried by Barry.
Middle class buried by Barry.
Here's Stephanie Cutter this morning on the Today Show.
She's the big campaign operative for Obama.
And Savannah Guthrie.
So, look, I want to ask you about Vice President Bitmey's remarks yesterday.
Conservatives have seized on them, said the middle class have been buried the last four years.
Your campaign's pointed out that he meant because of Republican policies.
That said, you wish the vice president had chosen different words?
No, absolutely not.
And in fact, we'll probably debate this tonight, that the middle class has been pressed over the past four years because of the very same policies that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are promising to go back to.
Let's talk about that tax cut that Mitt Romney won't tell us how he's going to pay for it.
That's a tax cut geared towards the wealthy.
He wants to give a $250,000 tax cut to multimillionaires.
But in order to pay for that, even Mitt Romney's own economists say we're going to have to raise taxes on middle class.
That's exactly what crashed the economy and punished the middle class in the first place.
This woman couldn't tell the truth, folks, if her life depended on it.
And I'm not using a cliché there.
She literally is incapable of telling the truth.
Well, of course it didn't make sense.
It's mind-boggling.
Here we've had Obama with his stimulus package and his jobs councils and his job seminars and all this work on jobs and so forth.
And somehow the economics of the last three and a half years are Bush's fault.
It seems like Obama's disqualifying himself.
If the mess really were created by Bush, hasn't Obama demonstrated he doesn't have the ability to fix it?
I don't care how you slice this.
Biden has just ended up disqualifying himself and Obama.
If either they are responsible for this mess, which they are, or Bush is, in which case they have proven they don't know how to fix it.
Either way, they got to go.
Ladies and gentlemen, I make another prediction to you.
Actually, another prediction is a warning.
Much as last Wednesday I told you that the swing state polls that were coming up you should ignore.
Ignore the polls tomorrow after the debate tonight.
The odds are that the polls are going to be, well, I don't know, sampled in such a way that no matter how well Romney does, you're still going to have polls that say in the swing states, Obama carried the day.
You're going to see it.
It's probably some Republican pollsters who are warning people that the Democrats already have the deck stacked in terms of their samples and so forth.
And I'm sure that that's true.
So this is just another warning.
Don't let them succeed in getting you depressed.
Romney could kick butt tonight.
And the polls are probably already in the can that Obama wanted.
No matter.
And part and parcel of this, too, is the expectations game the Democrats have played.
The way it works is, oh, man, Obama didn't have a chance.
Really, that's one weakness.
We all acknowledge that Obama's got Romney.
We've seen him debate.
He's really good at this, and we expect Romney to win the debate.
So they set that up, and then the debate happens.
And however it happens, the swing state polls tomorrow and the next day will show that Obama was thought to have won the weight of the debate.
And wow, did he really exceed expectations?
It's all a game, folks.
It's all a game, and you and I are the pawns.
They want us committing ourselves to the insane asylum.
They want us getting depressed and in a funk trying to suppress our vote.
That is their whole campaign: voter suppression.
Try to keep you just so down in the dumps and depressed that you think it's hopeless.
And your vote doesn't count in any way.
You're just one vote.
So why even show up?
Kevin Northern Connecticut, welcome to the EIB Network.
Hello.
How are you doing, Rush?
It's a pleasure.
Thank you, sir, very much.
I was going to call you a couple weeks because something odd happened to me last month during Hurricane Isaac or after the hurricane.
Company I work for, which I won't name, was doing work at Lake Poncentrain Elementary School in a cleanup effort.
So, as you can probably remember, the president made a stop at this particular school, which is okay.
The thing that struck me as odd was about an hour before he arrived, the forwarding team was there, and there was a bunch of individuals collecting money for his campaign, saying how that, you know, he would really appreciate it.
I kind of, you know, I brushed it off, whatever.
It was a stupid stunt on their part.
As far as I'm concerned, there's people that are devastated and still are in bad shape today.
But then when you brought up how he was bashing Republicans or white people for Katrina not being cleaned up any faster, it's appalling to me.
Yeah, that's an excellent point.
And how about all the flooding?
And how about all the droughts?
And how about all the natural disasters that have occurred during Obama's regime?
And he hadn't given a diddly squat about it, and nobody's held him accountable.
And it doesn't matter what the race of the people.
He hasn't made tracks to minority communities when they've been devastated by some kind of natural disaster.
But you go back, you're right, but this tape of 2007, yeah, Bush only cared about white people.
That's why he didn't go to New Orleans.
They wouldn't care.
You're exactly right.
It's just, it's another example in the never-ending list of examples of utter hypocrisy.
I hope they start to get pushed out into the open tonight when Governor Romney debates them because as far as I'm concerned, the country is just at the tipping point where we're going to lose it.
And, you know, that quote-unquote 47%, they don't care because they've already got what they want, and they will always have it as long as he's in power.
Well, a lot of them look at it that way.
As far as the debate's concerned, again, I just want to, no matter if you think Romney wins this thing big tonight, you're not going to see that reflected anywhere.
Or you might see an occasional drive-by media person praise Romney tonight or if he does well.
That'll be part of the game.
Then the polls are going to come out.
Polls are going to come out.
You're going to wonder what country you live in.
You're going to wonder what country watched it.
Is to turn the debate off after the turn the TV off after the debate.
The spin rooms are biggest waste of time.
Why do you need to listen to a bunch of people tell you what you just saw?
Why do you need to listen to a bunch of people make excuses for the mistakes you just witnessed?
Why do you need to have somebody explain to you how somebody just blew it, hit a home run?
Or verse visa?
And I don't know about you.
I kind of like the fact that Obama is using the haughty John Kerry, who served in Vietnam as his debate rehearser.
It's Kerry who's pretending to be Romney.
And Kerry lost.
I mean, let's go to the bench that knows how to win, right?
You go to the haughty John Kerry.
We will see.
A lot of people have a lot invested.
Every call we've had about the debate, every caller has had a specific thing he wants Romney to talk about.
And there are a lot of those, there are more things people want to hear than Romney can possibly mention tonight.
And that sets something else up.
Calls here tomorrow from people.
I really wanted Romney to talk about blah, blah, and I didn't hear him talk about it.
It's over.
He's a blown opportunity.
It was sitting there in a silver platter and he didn't talk about what I wanted to hear.
Just trying to warn you, just trying to prepare you.
Stertilla will be on the lookout.
But I'm telling you, the phones are going to be swamped tomorrow.
The spin room will continue all day tomorrow.
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm holding here my formerly nicotine-stained fingers: a story on tax increases from the Associated Press, the AP, state-controlled media, stenographers for Obama.
You've heard we played the audio sound bus today, Stephanie Cutter, any number of Democrats.
Biden claiming that Romney's going to raise taxes on the middle class to pay for tax cuts for the rich.
I've been hearing it for 25 years.
And it's amazing that people still buy it, but they do.
Longer than 25 years.
A typical middle-class family, typical middle-income family making between $40,000 and $64,000 a year could see its taxes go up by $2,000 next year if lawmakers fail to renew a lengthy roster of tax cuts set to expire at the end of the year.
Taxpayers across the income spectrum would be hit with large tax increases.
This according to the Tax Policy Center.
They said it in a study with households in the top 1% income range seeing an average tax increase of more than $120,000.
The top 1% will see a tax increase of $120,000.
A family making between $110,000 and $140,000 will see a tax increase in the $6,000 range.
Taxpayers across the income spectrum will get slammed with increases totaling more than $500 billion, nine out of 10 households being affected by the expiration of the Bush tax rates that were enacted under both Bush and Obama.
Obama extended them in 2010.
And he promised his people it was just he said it was during the lame duck of 2010, lame duck session December, and he argued that the Bush tax rates had to continue or economic problems would happen.
The tax increase, if the rates expired, would slow down the economy.
But he promised his people, his voters, that that was it, that the Bush tax rates will then expire on schedule in 2012.
So here are massive tax increases on everybody scheduled for January 1, and Obama is not arguing against it.
Obama is not campaigning on doing anything about it.
Obama wants these tax increases.
Folks, it's all about destroying wealth.
It's all about doing great damage to the opportunity to create wealth.
Pure and simple.
And herein again is the tie to liberty and freedom.
Liberty, freedom, opportunity to acquire wealth is a limit or an opportunity that Obama and the Democrats want to limit.
The more wealth you have, the more freedom you have.
The more income you have, the more opportunity, the more choice you have.
They don't want that.
So that's why the tax increases that are scheduled, you don't hear Obama talking about doing anything about it.
You do hear Romney and the Republicans talking about doing something about it.
Tax him again is what it's called.
But the idea that Romney is going to raise tax, I'll tell you what else is going to happen.
Obama's going to cut Medicare another $250 billion.
And he's out there campaigning that Romney is the one that's going to do that.
But Obama is the one who's going to do it.
And he has already admitted so in private conversations.
He's just telling people, look, on the campaign, I've got to lay that off on Romney.
He's got nothing but lies in his arsenal.
He doesn't have his record to run on.
That's going to be one of the interesting things to me in watching this debate tonight is how he lies, how many lies he tells.
I'm going to keep count.
And to see what Romney does with it.
Who's next?
Vic in Binghamton, New York.
Great to have you on the EIB network.
Hello.
Hey, good afternoon, Rush.
Thank you for having me on.
You bet, sir.
Hey, I wanted to really elaborate on something you've been discussing earlier today, as well as something a prior caller had called in on.
I guess to go along with something you said a moment ago, this was my wish list.
Really want Romney to focus on those fuel and gas prices.
I mean, it may seem common sense to folks like you and myself, but, I mean, they have an effect on everything.
Your home fuel costs, your auto fuel costs, you know, for folks who maybe haven't been homeowners, you know, the prices...
Let me ask you a question.
I need to...
I need to jump here and ask you a question.
And I mean this.
This question is going to sound like I'm being a smart alec, but I'm not.
I'm genuinely curious.
You know the gas price is going up.
Why?
Because you're living it.
You're paying it.
Certainly.
Everybody else does, too.
Why do people need to be told gas prices are going up?
I agree with the prior caller.
I think it'll hit home with some of the independents when they see just how dramatically.
Do they not know their gas price?
What is it about independence?
They become anesthetized to the fact that it's been so high for so long, they've grown accustomed to it.
They don't realize it was three and a half, four short years ago.
It was $1.60.
Oh, this is about tying it to Obama.
Absolutely.
That they don't automatically do that.
You know, Obama's been president for three and a half years.
The gas price has been going up for three and a half years, but somehow they don't equate it or associate it with Obama.
They still blame Bush.
Well, I think in general, they have an attitude of, well, you know, the president can't control that.
They don't blame Obama because the media hasn't blamed Obama.
Right.
His domestic policies affect it.
His foreign policies affect it.
If you want another example, the printing of all the extra money.
All the dollars are printing, the devaluing of the dollar.
I mean, you've got $4 gasoline now being purchased by a dollar that's worth less than it was four years ago when it was $1.60.
Might be $6 a gallon based on that formula.
I mean, I don't think folks can ignore that.
Well, they're doing that to prevent economic collapse during the campaign so that it won't have a detrimental effect on Obama.
I think Romney needs to somehow tie that.
I think he needs to make that point hammered home.
That's my wish list, if you would, on that.
But we're told, I'm playing devil's advocate.
We're told here that any criticism of Obama, the independents don't want to hear that.
Independents don't want to hear poor Obama, who they like and is really trying hard.
Bill Clinton said nobody else could fix it.
So here comes Romney blaming Obama for the gas prices.
This is going to make the independents mad, isn't it?
Well, Bill Clinton also said that Obama's policies could cut the price of fuel in half.
Well, why didn't he do it?
He chose to exploit his ideological advantage he had in Congress the first two years instead of going after the real issues.
Well, the media has told us for the past two years at least that Obama has no control over gas prices.
They didn't say Obama said the president has no control over gas prices.
That's relatively new, by the way.
Bush, of course, had everything to do with gas prices.
He and Cheney, big oil boys, they wanted rising oil prices so they could profit from it.
But now presidents have no control over it.
Again, I think that's the connection that Romney has to make.
I think it's very doable.
I think it's very plausible, very possible, and I think he needs to convey that to you and myself watching the debate tonight.
Okay, well, we will see what happens.
I'm glad you called.
I appreciate it.
We will be right back.
It is true during the last two years, and maybe even maybe the last third, but certainly the last two years of the Bush administration when gasoline prices were trending up, and maybe it wasn't, whenever it happened, years run together.
You can count on multiple times a day some drive-by reporter hanging out at the gas pumps asking people, can you make it to tomorrow?
What does the rising gas price mean to your business?
I might have to shut down, John.
I don't know.
I can't take much more of this.
And they cut to a picture of Bush smiling, looking like Alfred E. Newman, like he didn't care.
And they do it every day, countless times a day.
They'd go talk to small business people, truck drivers.
It didn't matter.
What does the rising fuel price mean to you?
It's going to cost more to go get your vegetables.
Gasoline's going to go up.
I don't know how I can stay in business.
Truck drivers left and right.
Now you don't see any of it.
Not one reporter goes out and asks anybody to reflect on the effect of rising fuel prices on their business or anybody else's.
And so young, ignorant college kids think that this is just the way it's always been.
No big deal.
The new normal, gas is $3.50 a gallon.
It's always been that way.
In fact, they probably think Obama's trying to lower it.
When, in fact, Obama's the guy who said when gasoline hit four bucks that he didn't have any problem with the $4 limit, it was how fast it got there that bothered him.
But he wasn't bothered by how much it was.
Virginia Beach, Joanne, great to have you on the program.
Hi.
Hi, Rush.
I wanted to go ahead and just make a comment about that lovely clip you played from Bishop Jackson today.
The preacher?
Yes, sir.
He happens to be my preacher.
He is the genuine article.
He's been a Reagan Republican since 1976.
And that message is not only for black Christians, it's for all Christians.
Let me go find it now.
Here it is.
Reverend E.W. Jackson.
Grab soundbites 8 and 9.
Here's what she's talking about.
The Reverend E.W. Jackson of the Chesapeake, Virginia Exodus Faith Ministries, chairman of Ministers Taking a Stand, released a video message specifically to black Christians.
We have a couple of sound bites from this video.
It is time to end the slavish devotion to the Democrat Party.
They have insulted us, used us, and manipulated us.
They have saturated the black community with ridiculous lies.
Unless we support the Democrat Party, we will be returned to slavery.
We will be robbed of voting rights.
The Martin Luther King holiday will be repealed.
They think we are stupid and that these lies will hold us captive while they violate everything we believe as Christians.
Yeah, and then listen to this next one.
If I were African American, this would frost me.
The Democrat Party has created an unholy alliance between certain so-called civil rights leaders and Planned Parenthood, which has killed unborn black babies by the tens of millions.
The Democrat Party has equated homosexuality with being black, which is another outrageous lie.
Stop the tax.
We as Christians.
That's amazing.
He's right about that.
And there are a lot of African Americans who are ticked off about it to compare gay marriage, the quest for gay marriage, to slavery and civil rights.
And Reverend Jackson here is sounding a warning.
How can you people be so stupid as to fall for this?
Does he sound like this every day when he preaches?
Actually, he sounds better.
And with Bishop Jackson, he's an American of African descent.
He will not use a hyphenated America.
He's glad that he's in this country.
He was born in this country, and he's an American.
He's also a Marine, a Harvard graduate, a Harvard-educated lawyer, which didn't drink the Kool-Aid.
I mean, he is absolutely brilliant.
He ran for Senate in the primary against George Allen.
So he's quite accomplished.
You know, he's one of the best.
There are a lot of guys like him that say this.
It doesn't ever seem to have any effect with black Americans.
Well, my email is blown up.
My telephone's blown up today, so I think we're having an effect.
Well, good.
Good.
Okay, well, thanks very much, Joanne.
I appreciate it.
Again, it's the Reverend E.W. Jackson, Chesapeake, Virginia, Exodus Faith Ministries.
And the two bites we played are from a video that he released yesterday as part of the campaign and so forth.
Brief time out here.
We'll come back and wrap it up after this.
So I checked the email during the break.
Where did you hear Obama's going to cut Medicare 250 billion?
Bob Woodward.
It's in his book.
Bob Woodward says that Obama has admitted, yeah, he's going to have to cut Medicare $250 billion.
It can't go on this way.
Except during the campaign, he's accusing Romney of doing it.
He's accusing Romney of never cutting.
Bob Woodward is the source.
I never thought I would be quoting Bob Woodward this way.
But there it is.
See you tomorrow, my friends.
Have a wonderful evening.
