Welcome to today's edition of The Rush 24-7 Podcast.
Uh hey, everybody.
It's it's Bill Clayton here, and uh uh Limbaugh has graciously uh uh let me come here to start that uh radio show today because he's got three hours and I know I don't have any chance anymore, and he's graciously because he now we got skunked last night, we got uh blown away last night, but I just want to tell you, I just want to say there is nobody, there's nobody who could have done any better than Obama did last night.
I mean, I couldn't have done any better.
Uh Jimmy Carter couldn't have done any better.
I mean, it all started off that first question.
Obama Obama inherited that first question of the debate.
It was one of the worst questions since the Great Depression, and and there's nowhere to go after after Stephanie Cutter said it.
The moderator blew the whole thing.
And I just want everybody there's now nobody could have done any better.
Not even I. Not even that.
Okay, all right, thanks.
Um I'm I'm through.
Thank you, Mr. President.
Greetings, folks.
Rush Limbaugh, the EIB Network and Limboy Institute for advanced conservative studies, telephone number if you want to be on the program, 800-282-2882 in the email address, L Rushball at EIBNet.com.
Last night is why for 25 years.
I and numerous others have been begging Republican candidates, just be conservative.
Just go out there and espouse conservatism.
Go out there and espouse conservative principles and ideas and relate them to policy and life and culture, and you cannot lose.
Because the left has no idea what to do with it.
You know, you look the media today is beside itself.
Last night they were beside themselves stopping it.
They that the media has propped Obama up for four years or five.
They have shielded him, they've protected him, they've run cover for him.
And last night he let them down big time.
He phoned it in, he didn't even show up, and they're sitting there saying, you know, we cover for you, we we cover for you for all these years.
You come out unprepared and bored and make us look like a bunch of creeps.
Let me tell you, Barack, not even we can cover your butt on this one.
You know what they're really upset about?
I mean, Al Gore is saying it's the altitude.
It's folks, it is hilarious.
But if there is a single uniting thing in the media that has them all irritated, it's that it's that Obama didn't use the 47%.
They're out there.
I've got the audio sound bites, and you will hear it.
They are all beside themselves.
They thought they had that teed up, and all Obama had to do was bring up Romney's 47% comment, and it's over.
And they can't understand why he didn't.
Let me help.
Let me tell you why he didn't bring up the 47%.
Had he brought first thing, you people are lying about what Romney said in that 47%.
You've taken it out of context.
Romney was not writing off 47% of the country.
Romney does not have an ambivalent attitude about 47% of the country.
And just and to accuse him of it would have been setting him up for another grand slam home run, of which he had many last night.
Now you people in the media may not get it, but the Obama cam campaign understands that 47%'s a non-starter.
It does not mean Romney did not mean what you in the media have accused him of meaning by it.
That would have been that would have been a hanging curveball for Romney.
I'm sure he was hoping for it.
He was prepared for everything else.
I'm sure Romney was dying to get that 47% question, and I hope that he gets it down the road.
Because you know there's another answer to it.
Mr. President, you really want to bring up old video tapes, Mr. President.
You uh you want to talk about some of the things that we found uh you saying on some old video tapes, Mr. President.
You really want to go there?
Because I'll be happy to, Mr. I'll go anywhere you want to go.
You want to talk about Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright and uh and and national health care.
I I'll be glad to go back and relive everything you've ever said on tape.
Ladies and gentlemen, I don't think that very many people on the left have any idea what hit them last night.
You see, people on the left, including Obama, but pick anybody, they do not have an intellectual understanding of conservatism.
They really do not.
They have rejected it, out of hand their entire lives.
They deal with it by treating it as some minority way of thinking, a very small bunch of people, and are really kooks and extremists who believe that stuff.
Conservatism to them is a is a foreign language.
It's it's and very few people speak it.
So what they've done my whole life, and even longer than that, is impugn the character of conservatives.
They attack conservatism with cliches and emotional appeals.
But in the arena of ideas, they're lost.
Obama was befuddled and lost, and there was nothing he could have done last night to change that outcome.
Not with Romney showing up as he did.
There wasn't a thing Obama could have done.
Not a thing.
Obama, in addition, has been shielded from any kind of opposition his whole life.
He's been protected.
If he got a C at Harvard, somebody gave him an A. If he needed to get into Harvard law, somebody greased the skids.
He's had the way paved for him.
And he's protected, and he's shielded, and he has a teleprompter, and his words are written for him.
And his surroundings are carefully crafted.
His appearances are assembled.
There are no people of substantive opposition permitted.
As such.
Barack Obama has never faced opposition.
He's always been able to reject it.
He has always been able to poo-poo it and have media people take care of the mess for him.
He's never had to deal with it.
What happened last night, precisely why I and a bunch of others have been shouting, have been imploring, have been begging every Republican candidate, particularly in national campaigns.
Just be conservative.
You can't lose.
Just espouse conservatism.
Go out there and espouse the principles and apply them specifically to policy and to culture and to your life and the way you live it and the way you see America and the way you dream and hope for the future of America, and they can't touch us.
And last night was evidence.
Just be conservative.
You see, ladies and gentlemen, we know.
We know and understand liberalism maybe better than they do.
I understand what Obama's gonna say and do before he does it.
That's why I said on January 16, 2009, I hope he fails.
I saw all this coming, and not because I'm a great sage, but because he's a liberal and I know who they are.
I can argue liberalism.
I do on this program.
Everybody says this program is unfair.
There's more liberalism on this program offered by me as I tee it up to be rejected, than there is conservatism anywhere else in the rest of the media.
There's more balance, and I don't need a liberal guest.
I can do it.
I tell you what the liberal think about it think liberal thinking on an issue is.
I tell you what they're gonna say, and then I debate myself.
And I, the conservative, always win, always will.
In the arena of ideas, liberalism has no chance.
It has never succeeded.
It has never triumphed as it's advertised.
The best for all never happens.
It never produces that.
They can't argue conservatism, but they don't understand it.
They've rejected it.
They treat it as a joke or as something is a small little bunch of kook extremists.
They don't understand it.
That's why they don't know what happened to them last night.
Everybody said, Who is this Romney guy?
I'm sure that these people really believe that Romney is the guy they've put together in these ads, that he did kill a guy's wife.
They think that.
They do think Romney's a felon.
They do think Romney's doing all these horrible things that they have characterized him as doing in their ads.
That's who Romney is because that's what a conservative is to them.
If it weren't Romney, if it would newt that it won the nomination, the ads would be the same.
Doesn't matter.
A conservative is a certain set of things to them that is in no way close to reality.
They have rejected conservatism out of hand to the point that it really doesn't even exist.
It exists as they characterize it.
And of course they characterize it and set it up in a way that makes it easy for them in their minds to defeat it.
They just say it's racism, sexism, bigotry, and homophobia, and tax cuts for the rich.
It's nothing but a series of cliches that they attempt to characterize us with and describe us as being.
But Mitt Romney was not one cliche last night.
That's why they're all saying, Well, who is this guy?
Half of you are probably saying who is this guy?
Where's this guy been?
This guy better than his own campaign.
And there's no question about that.
But the liberal worldview was blown up last night.
And they still have no idea why.
They think it's Jim Lehrer.
They think it's the altitude.
They think Obama didn't study.
They think Obama didn't care enough.
They think Obama whatever.
As long as Romney shows up as he shows up last night, they don't have a chance.
Now what is the most often heard question today that we're asking?
What's the next level of scum they're going to descend to try to take Romney out?
What's Chicago gonna do next?
You'll note that whatever you think, whatever you conceive, when you start thinking whatever new tactic they come up with, it ain't gonna be an idea.
It's not gonna be a way to beat us in ideas, it's gonna be a way to get even slimier and dirtier in a way that they think they can impune and take Romney out on the basis of whatever character assassinations they make, but in the arena of ideas they don't have a clue, folks.
It's what's so frustrating to me.
Last night could be every day in this country.
If every elected Republican went about his day as Mitt Romney went about 90 minutes last night, every day in America could be last night.
There's no way that they can now run against Mitt Romney as stupid.
There's no way all of these elitists thinking they're the smartest people in the room, liberals and their voters can run around and say that Mitt Romney's an idiot.
He's a dumb hick, like they could with Bush.
They can't they can't call what happened last night extremism.
They can't call what happened last night racism.
They can't say that what happened last night was mean spirited.
They can't say that what happened last night was bigoted.
They can't say that last night was homophobic.
They can't say last night that there was a war on women.
Their entire campaign blew up in their face last night.
Everything they use to make their case is actually nothing more than character assassination or personal assassination against Republicans, candidates, commentators, you name it.
And it was all blown up.
An independent, a moderate, who doesn't listen to partisan media, radio TV talk shows, or whatever.
But watched the debate last night.
Only knows Mitt Romney by virtue of the TV ads he or she is.
You understand their heads swimming last night, whoa, whoa, well, well, wait a minute now.
Uh where's the war on women?
Where's where where's this guy that wants to it wasn't there?
Not for one second last night was Mitt Romney.
Even close to the way he has been portrayed by the Democrats, the media, and Barack Obama for the past two years.
Or even six years.
In fact, it was Obama near the end of the debate, who finally, after wandering in vain for a cogent thought all night, finally had no recourse but then to descend to his own cliches.
Billionaires, millionaires, tax cuts for the rich, all the vacuous empty nothingness that has defined Obama and the left for so long, all condensed into 90 minutes last night.
It looked pathetic, it looked old and tired and worn out just as Obama did.
Last night was not a sporting event.
Last night was a discussion about the future of our country.
And it was conducted brilliantly by Mitt Romney.
Substance, energy, passion, good cheer, inspiration, infectiousness, nice guy.
All of it.
Bold, didn't let Jim Leara successfully get away with throwing lifelines to Obama, which he tried numbers of times.
By the way, some of the most pathetic questions I've ever heard.
Well, I I can't I it was just it was embarrassing.
And it doesn't matter.
Romney overcame it.
He took control.
Last night was bold leadership.
Bold leadership, not waiting around to be recognized and to be treated properly and to be shown respect and to show everybody that we're not racist, sexist bigots almost.
He just went in there, seized the opportunity, got in, got it, and got out.
So we had a discussion about the future of our country last night.
More freedom or more government, more central planning or Yankee ingenuity.
More entrepreneurialism or more government control.
For those of you on the left, for those of you in the media, Obama didn't didn't lose because he didn't show up.
He did not lose because of the altitude.
He didn't lose because of the moderator.
He didn't lose because he was on Valium or Xanax or whatever I've even heard.
He lost because his ideas don't cut it.
You know, ladies and gentlemen, uh Obama came off even worse in his debate with Romney last night than he did in his debate with Clint Eastwood.
And that's saying something.
What do we learn last night?
I mean, we really learned a lot.
This was one of the best debate performances in my life.
I know people are saying the last 20 years, that would uh think it's back 1980.
And Reagan was awesome.
But this was this was awesome from from start to finish, but particularly measured against fears and expectations.
This it couldn't have been any better.
Maybe I mean I had a couple of nitpicks.
I I I would I would have liked to have heard my taxes are going to get cut too, and I uh I I wish at the end he'd have just gone in there and continued his nail the guy, but he he went nice.
Speaking of which Obama at the end, there are people saying it was actually his high point as closing statement.
I don't think so when you hear it.
We got audio.
He was rambling.
He was rambling and he was he was wandering in in in search of a thought all night long.
He he was stringing cliches together.
Well, we learned last night that he Obama, what he has to have in order to convey the appearance of being credible.
He needs a well-written speech from somebody other than himself.
He needs a teleprompter, and he needs props.
And he needs a shield.
He needs a he needs a protective media.
It really does.
He needs the confidence that whatever he says is going to be covered up, corrected, taken care of.
Propandized.
He didn't have a well-written speech from somebody else last night.
Didn't have a teleprompter.
He didn't have any props.
And he did not have the confidence that comes with knowing his propagandists were on the on the uh on the case.
Mitt Romney actually told Barack Obama last night, you pick losers.
I stood up and cheered.
Some people pick winners and losers.
You pick losers.
There are a couple of really great moments amidst a whole slew of them last night.
Sit tight, folks.
I was particularly satisfied last night, folks, because you realize what happened last night among everything else.
Substance was the big winner.
Not style.
Not emotion.
Substance.
Ideas.
I have been longing for ideas, ideology, whatever you want to say.
Ideas in this campaign.
Last night, last night we got it.
People are on the left running around saying, well, you know, I don't know.
Why why wasn't Obama prepared?
Why, why, why didn't he, why didn't he show up prepared?
You see, that too is very illustrative.
It assumes that Obama was ever prepared for this.
He wasn't.
Just as Romney and conservatives are a collection of caricatures which are totally inaccurate, so's Obama.
Messiah, brilliant, postpartisan, post-racial, smartest guy that's ever run for office.
We never had anybody like this.
The guy's a community organizer is an agitator.
He had no experience.
He wasn't prepared for this job ever.
He's not prepared for this job now.
The left does not get it.
They never will get it until they understand conservatism.
And they're never going to do that because they're never going to treat it seriously and take it seriously or give us or it any respect whatsoever.
So as such, they're always going to be out of it.
Perplexed and curious.
They're never going to understand why when it happens, they lose elections.
They'll chalk up a whole bunch of reasons which are wrong and irrelevant.
But Obama hasn't been prepared ever for this job.
He's not qualified.
It's above his pay grade.
He is in over his head.
Let's start with some audio sound bites.
I mentioned his uh closing argument.
There are some who are saying at least he got it together then.
I didn't think so.
I I thought it was more rambling and more wandering, searching in vain for some coherence.
In fact, if you vote for me second time, I'll fight, I'll fight for you as hard as what was that?
Student council presidency on the line last night.
Listen to this and see, because I missed it last night.
I missed this last night.
Uh I have to read captioning.
I was trying to listen to the same time, but I missed what's in this.
All those things are designed to make sure that the American people, their genius, their grit, their determination, is channeled and they have an opportunity to succeed.
And everybody's getting a fair shot, and everybody's getting a fair share.
Everybody's doing a fair share, and everybody's playing by the same rules.
I missed the getting a fair share part last night.
I didn't went by me.
I I was distracted.
But this whole thing that's designed to make sure the American people are their genius, their grit, their Determination.
He didn't believe any of that.
He couldn't sell it because he doesn't believe any of it.
It came off as rocky and uncomfortable and staccato.
He doesn't believe it.
He's trying to remember it.
Okay, what'll sound good here?
I know I gotta I gotta sound like I believe in entrepreneurs, so I gotta sound like I believe in capitalism.
I have to sound here like I believe in free markets.
So that comes out as they're genius, they're grit, their determination channeled, and they have an opportunity to succeed, and it's a fair shot, and everybody's a fair share.
He couldn't, he couldn't help himself.
Lanny Davis was on Fox this morning, America's newsroom is uh being interviewed by Martha McCallum.
It was beside himself.
He said, Why don't you people and Democrat side just admit Obama lost?
I'm not very happy with the president's performance.
I think he did poorly.
For the Obama campaign to put the spokesman on, and I'm sure she's doing her best, and not to admit that he had a bad night.
The way to do this is to say, Mr. President, look at Governor Romney, smile, be gracious, don't look down and take notes while a man is talking to you.
Stop it, stop this.
Stop.
Who's he talking about here?
He is talking about the president of the United States, who was what?
The most brilliant, the most qualified, the Messianic.
He's giving him sixth grade debate instruction.
He's treating him like this is the junior high debate review.
No, you look at your opponent.
You don't look down at the podium.
You stand on both feet with your weight equally distributed.
You don't slouch on just one foot.
Who are we talking about here?
Look at how they have been reduced to critiquing.
I mean, you compare this to the way this man was given to us and presented to us four years ago.
And this is one of the greatest dissents, one of the greatest falls from great heights that I have ever seen.
And they don't know why.
They still don't get what happened.
They don't have their flailing, they're trying to come up with explanations to make sense to them in their contexts.
They have no clue.
Here's the rest of Lammy Davis.
As admitting that he had a bad night.
I know she doesn't believe what she was saying as she was saying it.
She was reading talking points, and that doesn't help our cause of electing.
He has a habit where instead of looking at the person that's addressing him, he looks down and takes notes.
Get rid of the notes.
You're not studying for an exam.
The Obama campaign, rather than putting spin out, should say, look, our guy had a bad night, but he's right on policies.
And everyone would say, okay, that's honest.
Wait, wait, wait, wait a minute, wait a minute.
Stephanie Cutter, what he's talking is the spokesman, she now she doesn't really believe what she's saying.
Really?
That's right.
They never really believe what they're saying when you get right there.
She just reading talking points.
What was she saying that he was criticizing?
She blaming the moderator.
He blaming the replacement refs.
Stephanie Cutter was blaming Lara for lousy questions and losing control of the debate.
And Lanny Davis saying she doesn't really mean that.
Yes, she does.
Yes, she does mean it.
You get right down to it.
But he's got a habit.
Instead of looking at the person, let me tell you the truth of the matter here, folks.
You want to really know the truth?
You know why we got what we got last night?
Because Barack Obama thinks it's beneath him to have to show up to this thing.
It's it's one thing to show up and debate a fellow liberal like Hillary Clinton.
But to have to show up, you know he doesn't like Mitt Romney at all.
Mitt Romney represents everything Obama despises about this country.
Success, wealth, everything.
The whole Romney family, the whole existence, the whole picture, the whole career.
That's what Obama resents and what he thinks is wrong with this country, and he just thinks it's beneath him to have to show up and do this last.
He's president for God's sake.
Gonna run the world someday.
He has to show up and do this to hell with it.
Now the one excuse, and maybe it's been said, I haven't heard it, maybe out there.
If it's not out there, it will be.
And it'll it'll it'll filter out to the Democrat undergrounds and the Daily Cause places and all the blogs and MSNBCs.
Look, don't this was strategic.
Nobody remembers the first debate.
No, no, no, no.
The next two, Obama is gonna cream him.
They got him.
We stand back.
We set him up.
Now Romney and the Republicans think that Obama's toast.
Now they think that Obama is clueless.
Now they think Obama doesn't know what he's doing.
And we're gonna come out and we're gonna bury Romney the next two.
And those two are closer to the election.
And nobody's gonna remember this.
If if if if that hasn't been said yet, it will be.
Has it been said?
Have you heard that?
Yeah, it's good.
Well, it does Obama know he got his butt kicked.
Well, I'm sure people tell.
I this is the thing.
I don't I don't know, psychology.
I'm not psychologist, psychiatrist.
I think somebody have to tell me, are narcissists capable of acknowledging they got their butt kicked.
Well, yeah, uh Michelle did, but uh you know that may not count.
Uh that that he might even resent that.
I I don't know.
I I just I need to have somebody tell me about narcissism.
Can you can a narcissism conceive a narcissist conceive of his own mistakes?
Acknowledge them to the degree that they've happened, or is he constantly in denial?
I don't know.
All I know is that they have no clue what really happened or why.
Be back here in just a second.
I tell you, I uh I checked here during the break, and they uh many, many places on the left, a lot of tweets.
They they really think that uh Obama purposely withheld the 47% comment that Romney made the donors, he's saving that.
They're gonna really launch on that in one of the next two debates.
And the same thing with the Cayman Islands.
Yeah, it Obama saved the big guns.
See, this is my but I'm not gonna hurt Romney with Cayman Islands, and at 47%, you I you know I ought to shut up about it.
I'd just I I ought to go quiet and let them stumble into that.
That's a landmine, you people there's a reason Obama didn't use it last night.
It opens up the whole thing's fabricated on a lie.
You people on the left are gonna have to understand everything you think about me, everything you think about Romney, everything you think about conservatism is a lie.
You've been told lies.
You believe lies.
You think that Romney actually doesn't care about 47% of the country.
You really believe that?
You really want to hit him with that after what you saw last night?
Be my guest.
You concoct these imaginary scenarios, and then you end up believing your own lies.
They're pathological.
And you think you're sitting there on a gold mine.
The Obama campaign, I know they're they're running ads about Romney's 47% comments.
And if it comes up in the debate, Romney can explain it and defend it.
And they don't want that.
They want that 47% out there unanswered.
You people hoping he brings it up, I'm I'm sorry, I think you're gonna be disappointed.
I don't think it can survive being answered.
It only works if it's a lie in a campaign ad.
But is it working?
Last I saw the political last night, Romney's up four.
You guys have run three hundred million dollars of attack ads on Romney.
Where uh how's that working out for you?
And then the first time substance comes up, real substance, ideas, look what happened.
You get smoked.
Because your ideas don't cut it.
Hell, you can't even be honest about your ideas.
Obama Obama trying to talk about free markets last night, entrepreneurism.
He doesn't believe any of it.
He was Uh you you guys can't be honest.
This is why we conservatives so frustrated with the Republican Party acting in ways not to offend you.
Rather, just be conservative.
Every day in America could be like last night.
Politically.
Every day could be.
I also like there's Romney is, I think it's a couple zingers in this.
This is one.
This is the kind of thing that Obama and Michelle, they get home last night, they are livid.
They are thinking how dare Romney insult me this way.
How dare he treat me?
How dare he say that?
How dare this little bite here it's about 43 seconds, you remember.
So if the tax plan he described were a tax plan I was asked to support, I'd say absolutely not.
I'm not looking for a five trillion dollar tax cut.
What I've said is I won't put in place a tax cut that adds to the deficit.
That's part one.
So there's no economist can say Mit Romney's tax plan adds five trillion.
If I say I will not add to the deficit with my tax plan.
Number two, I will not reduce the share paid by high income individuals.
I know that you and your running mate keep saying that, and I know it's a popular thing to say with a lot of people, but it's just not the case.
Look, I got five boys.
I'm used to people saying something that's not always true, but just keep on repeating it and ultimately hoping I'll believe it.
But that that is not the case.
All right.
I will not reduce the taxes paid by high income Americans.
Obama, I think, by this time had three times accused Romney of five trillion dollars in tax cuts.
When I heard it for the first time, I said, Well, what the hell?
Where did that come from?
Five trillion dollars in tax cuts.
And then Romney effectively denied it.
And Obama kept coming back to it, just kept accusing him of it.
The third time.
After the third time, Romney finally says, you know, I've dealt with children like you.
I've dealt with children like you.
I got five boys, five children, who lie to me, which is what all children do, implied, like you, Mr. President, children like you.
And they lie, and they try to tell me to lie so often that I'll eventually think it's true, but it just isn't the case.
So you can keep talking, Mr. President, but I've I've dealt with children before.
Well, Obama and Michelle go home or wherever they go, he called me a that that this was a slice and dice, folks.
That was par excellence.
It was par excellence.
I um guarantee it.
Now let me see.
Uh yeah, let's get started.
I'm uh there's not enough time to be fair with a caller.
Or maybe there is.
Let's take this.
Let's let's get a call in so I can say I did it in your first hour.
Tom in uh in Tom's River, New Jersey.
I'm glad you called.
It's great to have you on the program.
Welcome to EIB Network.
Hey, hello.
Uh what I found interesting last night was Jim Lair.
He actually might have done us a favor, because if you watch Barack Obama when Jim Lair tried to interrupt him with the last five seconds of his comment, Barack Obama lost his cool.
Then all of a sudden, if you look at Barack's face, he he realizes what he just said to Jim Lair, and then he smiles at.
But prior to the smile, there was outright anger in Barack Obama's face to Jim Lair.
When was this?
This was at the end of his speech.
He had like supposedly Jim Lair said, You've got no time left, and Barack said, Well, I had five seconds left before you interrupted me.
At that point, look at Barack Obama's face.
There was genuine anger at Jim Lair.
Like, how dare you interrupt me?
Well, that's true.
That's a that doesn't happen to Obama.
Moderators at debates don't interrupt Obama.
In fact, there was there was a a at least one episode of this, one point in the debate where Romney was cleaning Obama's clock, and Romney looked at Lair and said, You may want to move on to the next subject.
And Lair did.
You may it I'm I'm paraphrasing, it's pretty close to that.
You may want to move on to the next topic.
Some sort of but but but Jim Lehrer, Jim Laura, the news hour on PBS.
