I come from a union family.
For anybody who's new to the show, subscribe to the Patreon.
Thank you so much.
Losers.
Oh, I mean.
By the way.
Yeah, you're good.
You're good.
You're thorough now.
I'm union.
My dad's union.
My uncle's union.
My grandpa's union.
My stepdad's union.
Come from a long line of union workers.
And my grandpa, while having said some problematic stuff in the past, such as quoting our uncle who said, always vote Democrat, even if the Democrat is an N-word.
You know what?
You know what?
Actually, I'm good with that.
My grandpa, who's never used the N-word from his own mouth as far as I know, but I mean, he's a grandpa.
We need to flip that so people understand that, listen, I know you're a Democrat, but also a lot of other Democrats are Negroes.
So maybe vote for them too.
My grandpa would tell that like a funny story.
He's like, you know what Roy would say?
And it was like his way of saying that Roy was a bastard, but even he had good politics.
Yeah, yeah, I love that.
I love that.
um my grandpa told me stories about being like he were he was a butcher he was a union butcher and he would take like the dudes who barely spoke english the mexican dudes and fucking press like a notepad into each of their hands and a pencil and say keep track of your fucking hours write your hours down That way they can't screw you over, right?
Like, he had, even back then, in the, like, fuckin' 40s and 50s, like, had that working class solidarity, um, and...
Now, no.
You know, now there's like, this comment section was also filled with a bunch of, uh, union workers who are like, support black lives.
Are you fucking kidding me?
What?
What?
Uh, which we'll get to, but with this comment, this comment is so interesting to me.
Replace, replace them with other workers waiting for jobs.
It's simple.
It's kind of crazy how there's just a pool of workers waiting for jobs.
In this land of opportunity.
And that's not a problem.
The same people are saying, like, you don't have a job because you're a piece of shit.
Totally.
That's the conservative meme, is that anyone can get a good paying job if they want it, you just have to, uh, wait for a union member to show solidarity with a movement for racial equality and walk off.
See, the thing they don't think about when they talk about pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, is it like, I live in Cali, baby, and I only wear sandals.
Right.
You know?
That's right.
People don't think about that.
But am I supposed to pull myself up by now?
Um, yeah.
No, you have to, you have to like grab the rubber heel, but then it's like, it kind of hurts.
And then the, the little crotch between your toes, you know, your, your big toe and your second toe.
What I actually got to do is, is what you do is you, um, I'm wearing reef sandals, so I put a hook underneath the bottle openers on the bottom of your sandals.
And that's what I pull myself up by.
I grab two Coronas and I reach down.
I don't pull too hard now.
No, no.
Because I don't want to pop the bottle.
I just need to get myself up.
But yeah, so like in this comment, in this number one comment of the Fox News comment section, Everybody who is so against the idea of union, so against the idea of, you know, full employment, mandatory job, what's the phrase?
Like jobs programs, like universal jobs programs?
All these people would be totally against that idea, like, yeah, if Fox News told them to be against that idea or whatever, They all, like, subconsciously know, oh hey, there's a pool of workers just, like, starving to death, almost.
Waiting to run in and, like, take whatever they can get.
And it's almost like, it's almost like they've internalized the idea that capitalism depends on like an unemployed or underemployed or underpaid class of people to keep competition high and wages low.
Like, oh, don't like your working conditions or don't like, you know, the social makeup or the legal realities of your, you know, area or whatever.
That's cool.
People who are like literally starving and homeless, who'd be grateful to work for less than a living wage.
I mean, this is an age-old tactic that is steeped in racism to where like the beginning of any type of like labor conversation in America starts with literally, hey, listen, if you don't like it, we could just have slaves.
Right.
And like that is like the root of all of this.
