Need for Discernment
00:02:20
|
|
| We need this foundation. | |
| Yes. | |
| So we can't be shaken. | |
| Amen. | |
| Amen. | |
| And so could I ask you, I don't know if it's a hard question or not, but what is repentance from dead works? | |
| What does that mean in the Bible? | |
| Can you tell me what that means? | |
| Well, a dead work would be trusting in anything except Christ. | |
| It's just dead. | |
| It's just dead. | |
| Yeah, I want to say a word about Hebrews chapter 5, because in Hebrews chapter 5, it says that when you're established in these foundational things, it gives you discernment. | |
| Well, we're living in a day when people really need discernment. | |
| And Brother Jim, you're talking about all the craziness on TV and the craziness in society. | |
| And I hate to harp on these issues, but we are just surrounded these days by nonsensical thinking. | |
| Fantasy. | |
| And the Holy Spirit prophesied that would happen at the end of the age. | |
| He said there would be an invasion of seducing spirits and doctrines of demons. | |
| And people today are just being bombasted with nonsense. | |
| And they're being told that it is the new truth. | |
| And a lot of young people who are not taught in the Bible, they don't have discernment. | |
| So they're listening to a lot of this nonsense that they're hearing from Hollywood and the courts and education and everywhere else about their gender and new morals and a new way of thinking. | |
| And they don't have what they need to discern whether this is nonsense or whether it is truth. | |
| And the reason they don't have the ability to discern is because they don't know the Bible. | |
| I don't have to question whether things are right or wrong. | |
| You know why? | |
| Not because I'm so smart, but because I've been exercised by the Word of God. | |
| And the Word of God gives you common sense. | |
| The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. | |
| And when you have a fear of the Lord and you have a handle on these real basic foundational truths, it gives you the ability to immediately and quickly say, that's not right. | |
|
The Word Provides Clarity

|
|
| Nope. | |
| I don't care what they say. | |
| That's not right. | |
| You don't have to be brilliant to know. | |
| But if the word of God is in you, it gives you discernment. | |
| Isn't that right, Denise? | |
| Absolutely. | |
| It is our stability. | |
| The word of God is our stability. | |
| You know, everything else is shifting and shifting and shifting. | |
| But you go to this word. | |
| Sometimes I read the word and I say to Rick, Rick, this is so clean. | |
| This is so pure. | |
| And it just ministers to you because when you read the word of God, it tells you who you are. | |
| It tells you who you're not. | |
| And it's just given us a path, a clear path that we don't have to be moved from by every kind of wind and every kind of storm, | |
