Ron Paul's poor performance in areas using voting machines is likely due to demographic differences between urban and rural voters, not machine fraud.

Now, bigger picture, the voting machines didn't give Ron Paul worse results than hand counts. He happened to do worse in areas that used voting machines, most likely because they were the cities and larger population centers. In more rural areas, you're more likely to have towns that use hand counting, and you're more likely to find fringe-ass libertarian Paul fans.
