Impeachment is not necessary to block a Supreme Court nominee because Republicans already set a precedent for refusing hearings in election years.

There's no vacancy in the Supreme Court, and even if Ruth Bader Ginsburg were to die, the Republicans already set the precedent that an opposition party can refuse to hold hearings on Supreme Court nominees in election years. Now, this process, like the very difficult and consequence-laden process of impeachment, is not necessary to achieve the goal of blocking a Supreme Court nominee.
