The John Birch Society treated the civil rights movement and anti-apartheid efforts as communist conspiracies.
So one of the things that's important to understand, too, is that the John Birch Society and their publications largely treated the civil rights movement as a communist conspiracy. They treated the push to end apartheid in South Africa and Rhodesia as communist conspiracies. They treat any instance of people who aren't white men demanding rights as a communist conspiracy.
