The erection of Confederate statues served as a tool of racial terrorism to intimidate minorities during periods of social progress.

Largely speaking, they came up and were erected during periods where non-white people were making inroads into Power and that sort of thing. And it was used as a terroristic tool. It was a reminder of we enslaved you. Okay, so what you're saying is that during time periods where in America, traditional minorities make gains in how they live their lives, white people, I don't want to say overreact. I'm going to instead say go batshit fucking insane in order to try and destroy any gains that are made. And memorialize in an intimidating fashion in public spaces the history of repression.
