Hope you're doing well. I wanted to invite you into my lair, into the new upgraded studio so that you can see what's going on a little bit behind the scenes at FreeDomain.
So, a couple of things I wanted to do.
I'd first of all been working with the existing studio setup for about five years and I wanted to change it to get better lighting, also to be free of being tethered like a fish with a hook to the microphone that had to stay so close.
To my voice. So what we've done is we've got some different lighting here on the background.
So as you can see, we've got a paper background and I can change the lights up a little with a variety of gels.
I'm looking at sort of themes for various show types with different coloring and the shading is nicer, a little bit more visually interesting.
I've got an overhead light that is good, but a challenge because, you know, being bald, lighting up the old head is a challenge because it basically looks like I'm always having a good idea.
Or it looks like an eclipse, a sort of diamond ring situation.
So we're still working on that. The mixer has been upgraded, which is great.
And we've got lights here now that are very different from what I was working with before.
So this is a fill light.
This light here, this circle light, took me a little bit of getting used to because I had lights on either side before, but my lights before had all the subtlety of your average pharmacy lighting situation.
Here, looking in the camera lens through the middle here, it's kind of like I'm staring down through a tunnel of infinite time.
It's taking a little bit of getting used to, but it does produce a much nicer effect on the outside.
You can see here down on the ground, this is, well, it's my Not autofocus prison here.
So we've got this tape on the ground, which is where I have to stand in order to remain in focus.
I did autofocus before, but sometimes it will go out of focus, get blurry and be a mess.
So that's better.
This mic has liberated me from being chained to the microphone.
It's a directional mic, very sensitive.
And if it's pointed at my mouth, I can roam around a little bit and I don't have to be tethered.
And it gives great sound regardless of how close I am.
Which is fantastic.
We've got a new box to help me do better live streams, to do intros and outros to all of that.
I've upgraded the computer with an AMD Threadripper that allows me to produce videos much more quickly.
As you can see overhead here, I had to put in some sound dampening panels, which was quite the exercise in not passing out from spray glue.
But it was very exciting.
I had lots of visions after working on that.
And I'm very, very pleased.
I upgraded the camera considerably to get a better video.
This camera also can be used when I go out of the studio to work on documentaries as well.
I just wanted to give you a sense of what's going on here.
It was a pretty expensive upgrade, but I do believe it's worth it.
It does make the videos easier on the eyes.
The sound quality is better.
It gives me some more freedom.
It gives me some choices in the backdrop.
And it's much more efficient in the production of videos.
Much less post-production is needed to get videos out, which allows me to do more videos, which I'm very, very pleased about.
So, I just wanted you to know what's going on behind the scenes.
I wanted to thank you for your support.
It is your financial support that makes all of this possible, that also makes documentaries like the one I just put out about Poland called The 100-Year March, A Philosopher in Poland.
I'll put the link below. I hope you will check it out.
I was really, really proud of how it came out.
And this is what your support is helping me to achieve.
So I just wanted to thank you so much for all of your support and to ask you, if you haven't donated for a while, if you're finding value in what it is that I do, to ask you to please, please, please go to freedomainradio.com slash donate, freedomainradio.com slash donate to help out the show.
I promise I've got more documentaries in me.
I've got great shows coming up, great guests coming up, and I can't wait.
To see everything that we can achieve together in 2019.
So thank you very much.
Merry Christmas to everyone.
Happy New Year. And again, if you have a moment, freedomainradio.com slash donate.
