Freedomain Radio - Stefan Molyneux - 4269 Freedomain Studio Tour: Merry Christmas! Aired: 2018-12-21 Duration: 04:04 === New Studio Upgrade (03:08) === [00:00:00] Hey everybody, Stefan Molyneux from FreeDomain. [00:00:01] Hope you're doing well. I wanted to invite you into my lair, into the new upgraded studio so that you can see what's going on a little bit behind the scenes at FreeDomain. [00:00:11] So, a couple of things I wanted to do. [00:00:13] I'd first of all been working with the existing studio setup for about five years and I wanted to change it to get better lighting, also to be free of being tethered like a fish with a hook to the microphone that had to stay so close. [00:00:25] To my voice. So what we've done is we've got some different lighting here on the background. [00:00:30] So as you can see, we've got a paper background and I can change the lights up a little with a variety of gels. [00:00:35] I'm looking at sort of themes for various show types with different coloring and the shading is nicer, a little bit more visually interesting. [00:00:42] I've got an overhead light that is good, but a challenge because, you know, being bald, lighting up the old head is a challenge because it basically looks like I'm always having a good idea. [00:00:53] Or it looks like an eclipse, a sort of diamond ring situation. [00:00:57] So we're still working on that. The mixer has been upgraded, which is great. [00:01:04] And we've got lights here now that are very different from what I was working with before. [00:01:08] So this is a fill light. [00:01:10] This light here, this circle light, took me a little bit of getting used to because I had lights on either side before, but my lights before had all the subtlety of your average pharmacy lighting situation. [00:01:20] Here, looking in the camera lens through the middle here, it's kind of like I'm staring down through a tunnel of infinite time. [00:01:27] It's taking a little bit of getting used to, but it does produce a much nicer effect on the outside. [00:01:31] You can see here down on the ground, this is, well, it's my Not autofocus prison here. [00:01:38] So we've got this tape on the ground, which is where I have to stand in order to remain in focus. [00:01:43] I did autofocus before, but sometimes it will go out of focus, get blurry and be a mess. [00:01:48] So that's better. [00:01:49] This mic has liberated me from being chained to the microphone. [00:01:53] It's a directional mic, very sensitive. [00:01:56] And if it's pointed at my mouth, I can roam around a little bit and I don't have to be tethered. [00:02:01] And it gives great sound regardless of how close I am. [00:02:04] Which is fantastic. [00:02:06] We've got a new box to help me do better live streams, to do intros and outros to all of that. [00:02:12] I've upgraded the computer with an AMD Threadripper that allows me to produce videos much more quickly. [00:02:19] As you can see overhead here, I had to put in some sound dampening panels, which was quite the exercise in not passing out from spray glue. [00:02:27] But it was very exciting. [00:02:28] I had lots of visions after working on that. [00:02:31] And I'm very, very pleased. [00:02:33] I upgraded the camera considerably to get a better video. [00:02:37] This camera also can be used when I go out of the studio to work on documentaries as well. [00:02:43] I just wanted to give you a sense of what's going on here. [00:02:46] It was a pretty expensive upgrade, but I do believe it's worth it. [00:02:48] It does make the videos easier on the eyes. [00:02:50] The sound quality is better. [00:02:52] It gives me some more freedom. [00:02:53] It gives me some choices in the backdrop. [00:02:55] And it's much more efficient in the production of videos. [00:02:58] Much less post-production is needed to get videos out, which allows me to do more videos, which I'm very, very pleased about. [00:03:05] So, I just wanted you to know what's going on behind the scenes. === Support Makes the Difference (00:55) === [00:03:08] I wanted to thank you for your support. [00:03:10] It is your financial support that makes all of this possible, that also makes documentaries like the one I just put out about Poland called The 100-Year March, A Philosopher in Poland. [00:03:21] I'll put the link below. I hope you will check it out. [00:03:23] I was really, really proud of how it came out. [00:03:25] And this is what your support is helping me to achieve. [00:03:29] So I just wanted to thank you so much for all of your support and to ask you, if you haven't donated for a while, if you're finding value in what it is that I do, to ask you to please, please, please go to freedomainradio.com slash donate, freedomainradio.com slash donate to help out the show. [00:03:45] I promise I've got more documentaries in me. [00:03:47] I've got great shows coming up, great guests coming up, and I can't wait. [00:03:52] To see everything that we can achieve together in 2019. [00:03:55] So thank you very much. [00:03:57] Merry Christmas to everyone. [00:03:58] Happy New Year. And again, if you have a moment, freedomainradio.com slash donate. [00:04:03] Thanks everyone so much.
