What I told people, I was making a podcast about Benghazi.
Nine times out of ten, they called me a masochist, rolled their eyes, or just asked why.
Benghazi, the truth became a web of lies.
From Prologue Projects and Pushkin Industries, this is Fiasco Benghazi.
What difference at this point does it make?
Listen to Fiasco Benghazi on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Stay right here for our final news roundup and information overload.
All right, news roundup and information overload hour toll free our numbers 800 941.
Sean, if you want to be a part of the program.
All right, we've spent a lot of time today talking about the economy and the Trump tariff effect, and there's a lot that has happened.
By the way, inflation has cooled off dramatically under Donald Trump.
Unemployment has come down, job creation has gone up, gasoline is down nearly 7%.
Airline fares down 5.3%.
Hotels, motels, 4.3%.
Uh rentals have gone down nearly 3%.
We've listed everything involving China, and we've now have watched the communist Chinese refer to uh American citizens as mere peasants.
Uh can't make that that part up, but it is what it is.
And, you know, uh they have ratcheted up the their war with the United States in terms of tariffs.
Now the list of tariffs that I have that China imposed on us is massive.
It is unprecedented.
It is pretty much every product we have and sell inside of China is subject to massive tariffs.
You have finally have a president that is willing to stand up and say we're not going to be ripped off anymore.
And so China wants to uh exert as much power as they think that they have, and how this plays out ultimately I I don't have the answer to.
I believe the rest of the world will make deals, and I think we're gonna see it in the days and weeks ahead, deal after deal after deal that hasn't been accomplished in 50 or 60 years, but you know, that's not the only thing related to the economy.
Steve Moore, our friend, has a message to Republicans quote, stop talking about tariffs, start talking about tax cuts.
Congress has got to prioritize making the Trump tax cuts permanent by Memorial Day to ensure America's prosperity.
Uh anyway, that we know Steve Moore.
Welcome back to the program.
We know that that policy is in full effect.
And now the motion to proceed is gone forward, and now it's the nitty-gritty details that we're ultimately getting into.
Well, Sean, great to be with you, and I like the way you summarize the economy.
I think you're spot on.
You know, we hit a rough patch for about two or three weeks there, but the economy is adjusted.
I think Americans have adjusted to the fact that we are in a trade war with China, whether we like it or not.
I think we've probably been a 20-year trade war with China.
We're just finally recognizing it, and we have a president that's striking back, and uh bravo to him.
And I'm not a huge terror fan, as you know, but I do think you know we're we're dealing with a uh with a wretched leadership in China, and President Xi has to go.
And if they want to trade, if they want to go chit chat for us on trade war, I mean they're gonna go into a great depression.
So I don't see how that works out for them.
Um look, on the chat what what about this part in particular?
Because there are certain rare earth exports that that China is has 90% of the world supply.
And these are elements that are vital and critical, for example, for electric vehicles.
That would impact Tesla.
That would impact Boeing, that would impact the the aircraft and defense sectors.
All right.
So the then the question becomes all right, so they do have a little bit of leverage and they're using it.
However, how long can their economy withstand separation from the rest of the world?
Well, we're gonna find out whether the rest of the real world separates from China as as we look to be doing.
And if they don't, I don't think they're our allies.
I mean, this was a declaration of economic war by China, and uh we're gonna really find out, you know, which of these European countries, what about Japan, what about Korea, what about Canada?
Will they side with us or will they side with the Chinese?
I hope they don't choose wrongly.
But you raised this point about uh about the critical minerals, and this just infuriates me because I've been writing for ten years about this, Sean.
You know what country in the world has the most critical minerals?
The U.S. Yes.
I mean, we have some minerals.
Is is it is it the minerals that were that ninety percent of we've been importing from China?
Do we have the exact same ones that are necessary for the defense industry, electric car industry and and and other important industries?
We have virtually all of them, and we have them in the mountains of Montana, we have the mountains of Dakotas, we have Colorado.
Uh, you know, we are so resource rich, just like we have a huge amounts of energy.
Now you might ask the question, well, if we have them, why haven't we mine for them?
That's because the radical left has basically shut down our mining industry in this country for the last 25 years, Sean.
It it is almost criminally negligent that we are now dependent on China for our minerals when we have them right in our own backyard.
And I guarantee you uh Donald Trump and his interior secretary and his energy secretary are wholly committed to reviving our mining industry.
Unfortunately, that's going to take a while because we've been negligent for the last twenty-five years, so we're gonna have to deal with the situation we put ourselves in.
But we need to be energy and mineral self-sufficient, and we have the resources to do it.
All right, what do we do in the interim during the transition if in fact uh uh China digs in their heels?
Well, you know, it's not just China that has these resources.
There are a lot of other countries that do too.
And so we're gonna have to, you know, uh have to uh persuade them to sell those critical minerals to us.
But I don't think we're in as big a bind as China believes we are.
And again, they can't win this fight.
They their economy is completely dependent on having access to our twenty tr two trillion dollar consumer uh society, and and uh we're the biggest shopping mall in the world in terms of uh China.
And incidentally, can I say this to your to your uh listeners?
Because you have so many dedicated patriotic Americans, just stop buying their stuff.
I mean, do you really have to pay, you know, save two dollars to buy a t-shirt from China or three dollars on shoes?
We should as a country just simply and we don't need the government to tell us to do that.
We can do that ourselves, Sean.
I do it.
I don't buy chuck from China.
Well, I I uh listen, I agree with you, and I do prefer when I can buy American and knowingly can buy American, I try to buy American.
Me too.
Um, I look I I uh I have no fear.
I think the rest of the world fully understands the reality that for 50 to 60 years, and this is where I think Donald Trump can get a massive win.
If if if we keep it very simple and we we we put aside issues like trade deficits and m uh currency manipulation, which I I think maybe we're putting too much on the table.
And if you kept it very simple to free and fair trade or reciprocal tariffs, your choice, what what relationship do you want with the United States, especially allied nations like Canada, like the European Union, uh I that that both rely on us for their national security.
Right.
Um and maybe we put on the table uh why don't you buy your natural gas from us and energy from us?
Uh I think it would be a win-win win situation, but I think uh, you know, it what these countries eventually do, I don't know.
I I think you're gonna see some countries move very quickly, and I think others will be a little bit slower.
And you know, for whatever reason, they they they like the system the way it is, where they have the advantage over us and abuse us.
But you know, my point is, Sean, if they view that they're not our allies.
I mean, they're not our ally if they're signing siding with China over us.
I want to bring up one other quick point if I may, because you asked.
Can you imagine any scenario where you the European Union, Canada, India, Taiwan, Japan, South uh Korea ever side with China over us?
They're saying that.
Some of these countries are saying to Trump, well, gee, if you're gonna put these terrorists on us, we're gonna uh, you know, we're gonna trade with China instead of you, which I think is outrageous.
I mean, given that what have we spent?
A trillion dollars.
What countries are saying that?
The uh well, I can't I will get you the list, Sean.
I will get in the list of these coun countries whose leaders say they've said, well, you know, Trump is imposing these terrorists, maybe we will uh we'll start buying more from China.
And I I think and I I don't have the list in front of me, but I will get it for you, and you can read it to your readers.
Uh so they would they they want to get into bed with with the country that charges the most tariffs in the world, that is the country that's least reliable and least trustworthy.
And as soon as the minute they become dependent on China, then China will just rip them off the way they've been ripping off everybody else.
Of course.
And by the way, using sweatshop labor to get it all accomplished.
That's right.
And so uh so I I don't think that's going to happen, but they've been threatening some of our quote allies have been uh threatening us after we spent almost a trillion dollars over the last 40 years on NATO, you know, protecting their security in their own backyard.
Um the other big issue that's emerged just in the last uh two days or so is there is now increased talk of paying, quote, paying for I'm using that in quotes, the tax cut, uh, which is just basically extending the tax cut that already exists from 2017 by raising the top income tax rate on millionaires uh uh by uh to 40 percent.
That would be a higher tax rate than we had under Bill Clinton, under Barack Obama, under Joe Biden.
Uh, we cannot allow that to have a bad a great book by my buddy Art Laffer called the Eek uh Taxes Have Consequences.
He shows very clearly that every single time we've tried to quote tax the rich like that, three things have happened.
It's hurt the economy because these are small businessmen and women who pay that highest income tax rate.
Uh the the uh rich find ways around those taxes because they hire tax accountants, and and the burden of the tax uh system has gone on the middle class.
It's a terrible idea.
Please I know you're close to Dallas, but we all have to tell them don't go for that deal.
There's plenty of ways we can get the revenue we need.
By the way, who is who's pushing this idea on him?
Uh, you know, I it's coming from some of the guys in the White House, some of the, and and I guarantee you, you know, you know my friend Grover Norquist, I'm sure.
You know, he has pledge.
Yeah, two hundred of uh almost two hundred of the House Republicans have taken a pledge not to raise tax rates.
If that bill is in there, they would have to violate their pledge to their to their voters.
Well, I I I don't understand the fallacy as a supply sider and somebody that believes uh that that can historically prove, and I can build out any chart that you wanted.
Every time we've lowered taxes in this country, from JFK to Reagan to Donald Trump in his first term, it has resulted in massive revenue increases.
The problem always becomes of every new dollar Washington brings in, they'll spend a buck fifty or more in some cases.
Well, you're exactly right on those statistics.
And the the last two Republican presidents who raised tax rates were, well, uh of course, J George H. W. Bush, remember, read my lips, and that didn't turn out so well for him.
And before that, you have to go all the way back to Herbert Hoover, who raised taxes and and uh up to sixty to seventy percent, and he, you know, that inflamed the Great Depression.
So we let's not go there again.
Quick break.
More with Steve Moore on the other side, then your call's coming up, 800, 941 Sean as we continue.
Hey there.
I'm Mary Catherine Hammond.
And I'm Carol Markowitz.
We've been in political media for a long time.
Long enough to know that it's gotten, well, a little insane.
That's why we started normally a podcast for people who are over the hysteria and just want clarity.
We talk about the issues That actually matter to the country without panic, without yelling, and with a healthy dose of humor.
We don't take ourselves too seriously, but we do take the truth seriously.
So if you're into common sense, sanity, and some occasional fast.
You're our kind of people.

What I told people, I was making a podcast about Benghazi.
Nine times out of ten, they called me a masochist, rolled their eyes, or just asked, why?
Benghazi, the truth became a web of lies.
It's almost a dirty word, one that connotes conspiracy theories.
Will we ever get the truth about the Benghazi massacre?
Bad faith, political warfare, and frankly, bullshit.
We kill the ambassador just to cover something up.
You put two and two together.
Was it an overblown distraction or a sinister conspiracy?
Benghazi is a rosetta stone for everything that's been going on for the last 20 years.
I'm Leon Mayfock from Prologue Projects and Pushkin Industries.
This is Fiasco Benghazi.
What difference at this point does it make?
Yes, that's right.
Locker up.
Listen to Fiasco Benghazi on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
I know it's Steve Moore as we talk about, well, the economy, tax cuts, and of course, tariffs.
Why do people falsely argue that Smoot Hawley caused the Great Depression when that bill wasn't passed until nine months after the crash in 1929?
Well, I mean, that that's a source of dispute.
It is true that every time the Smoot Hawley moved through Congress, the stock market started to crash.
But the bigger cause of the Great Depression, I think it contributed to it, but the bigger cause was the massive tax increases by Herbert Hoover, who did all the wrong things and I think was one of our worst presidents.
But the other point to make is every you said it very well, but I bears repeating.
Every time we've cut tax rates, like under Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump, we got more taxes from the rich.
Did you you know this statistic?
Uh, Sean, I mentioned on your show a couple of weeks ago on your TV show.
The top one percent pay almost half of the income tax.
So yeah, uh well, we know that, and the bottom 50% pay what, about two to three percent now.
Yeah, exactly.
So by the way, do you think that if Trump does if the Republicans do this, then the Democrats are still gonna say it's a tax cut for the rich.
That's all what they always say.
This is not going to get them off their back.
I I just think it's bad for the economy.
Now, on the other hand, it goes seems to go against everything Donald Trump has ever believed in.
I mean, I think he's always understood this.
Um, and I've been reading the same things you've been reading, and frankly, I just haven't been believing it.
Well, I I don't think it's gonna happen, but it's a threat.
And we've got, you know, my old friend Bob Novak, you remember Bob Novak from Evans and Novak used to say the only reason God put Republicans on their cut our taxes.
And if they're raising them, I don't I think it's gonna split our party.
I think Republicans will lose the midterm election.
Don't go there.
You remember what happened in 1992.
Remember when Bush raised taxes, we lost everything.
Right.
Uh pretty unbelievable, to be honest.
Um, I I'm just uh I'm I'm at this point.
Because of reconciliation, I mean, what Republicans would go forward with a tax increase when they should be making the book the Trump tax cuts permanent, eliminating tax on tips, social security, and overtime.
Because that's what the president promised.
Why would they go in any other direction?
Because they're worried that Democrats are going to say what they always say, tax cuts for the rich.
When in fact, after the Trump tax cut of 2017, the share of taxes and the amount of taxes paid by the rich went up.
It didn't go down.
All right.
We really appreciate you, uh, Stephen Moore, and we'll be watching Congress very closely.
I agree with you that it needs to happen by Memorial Day.
And if it does, that also gives the economy time to recover.
It begins the process of recovering, because we've still been living under the the Biden Harris economy all this time.
Anyway, Steve Moore, thanks for being with us.
800 uh 941 Shonas on number if you want to be a part of the program.
So on fake news CNN, they run Taylor Lorenz and Taylor Lorenz, former Washington Post, New York Times reporter, and her comments praising Luigi Mangioni, which is about as sick as it can be, the accused assassin of this United Healthcare CEO.
And here's what she said.
You're gonna see women especially that feel like, oh my God, right?
Like here's this man who's a revolutionary, who's famous, who's handsome, who's young, who's smart, he's a person that seems this like this morally good man, which is hard to find.
All right, as a follow-up, our friend Piers Morgan had Taylor on his show, and here's how that went down.
I just didn't like the whole ton of you know, Donnie replied, well stayed to you, yeah.
I just realized women were literally dating assassin before they swipe right on me.
That's where we are we're at.
And you both laughed.
What I didn't see, uh, particularly from you, Taylor, was was direct, unequivocal condemnation of this.
You kind of just went, yeah, isn't it weird, isn't it?
Rather than saying, isn't it disgusting that these women are viewing him in this light?
Isn't it because it reminds me, it reminds me, well, hang on, it reminds me of when we had the Boston Marathon bombing and you have the Zanayev brothers.
I was on there at CNN at the time, who had committed one of the most heinous acts of modern times in America.
And what was uh their reward for this?
Uh, rather than everyone hating these people, uh that ended up with them being the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
Pretty unbelievable.
I mean, really, is the New York Times and Washington Post proud of their former employee employer?
Anyway, 800-941 Shauna's a number.
You want to be a part of the program.
Liz is in Colorado, Rocky Mountain High.
Liz, how are you?
Glad you called.
Hi, Sean.
It's so great to speak with you today, and I thank you for taking my call.
Uh, I'm a regular listener to your radio show, and I do try to watch at night when I can.
Um I just wanted you to yeah, I just wanted you to know I've learned so much from you, and I thank you for uh just being a true patriot for our country, and I think we need more people like you to just teach teach all of us the things that we need to know about what's going on with our country right now.
So I thank you and your team and Linda appreciate it.
Why do you want to thank Linda?
I don't know why you everyone thanks Linda.
Linda is awesome.
She awesome.
No, you gotta say it the right way.
Linda's awesome.
If somebody wants to say I'm awesome, they can say it in any accent they want.
I'll take it.
Eddie I says they want.
No, listen, we're all very grateful to all of you.
Uh it's our honor to be here every day.
We don't take it for granted.
And we appreciate the fact that you give us this microphone.
You know, we have a mission every day, Liz, and we work hard at it, and that's to bring news information, opinion, a little bit of fun, uh, to the news of the day that we know the state-run legacy media mob will never bring you.
And we work very hard on getting everything right, and and you know, every day we work to to build trust with you, our audience, and and tell you the truth.
And we really love this country, and we want it to be better, and I love the fact that we have the opportunity of a lifetime to be transformational, consequential, and and leave this country better than we found it.
And up until Donald Trump got back in office, uh, I was worried that our better our best days were behind us, to be honest.
Yeah, I was a little worried too, but I totally trust you, and I just appreciate everything you do for our country.
And I like I said, I've learned so much.
But um, the reason for my call today is to thank you for inspiring me to make a recent important decision.
And on your show, uh, you know, when I listen, you talk a lot about the importance of taking personal responsibility for our own safety.
Um, you know, you talk about your mixed martial arts that you do, the burn a launcher for shooting or for um non lethal force, you know, and then the mantis X for shooting accuracy.
So anyway, all of this prompted me to start taking gun safety and shooting lessons with a local uh retired police officer.
And I've shot several of his handguns and I had it narrowed down to two manufacturers.
But after listening and really hearing your Sig Sour commercials last week, I decided to uh go with the Sig Sour and I purchased one over the weekend.
I get a pick it up tonight.
And which one did you get?
The the P320 or the Pete uh 365?
Which one do you get?
I got the P365 XL Rose, and I have not heard you about the Rose.
It's a I think it's like a it was helped develop in collaboration with a world champion female shooter.
Um it comes in a packet, it's got a locking gun little case.
They called a safe, the case safe, couple clips.
It's really pretty.
It's got some rose accents on it and a training manual.
I can't wait to get it.
I I I pick it up tonight, so I'll see everything that's inside, but I'm super expensive.
I just I just appreciate Are you uh are you familiar with firearms?
Is this the first gun you've owned or no actually uh so back in 2008, due to the political climate back then I was worried about gun confiscation and things like that.
So I got my concealed carry permit and I got a revolver, and it's just not really fun to shoot.
So I carried it for a bit, and then I just kind of put it away and haven't done anything until I just keep hearing you hammer away at all the personal safety stuff, and I thought, darn it, I need to get back into this.
Listen, I think everybody needs a firearm in their house.
Um the my only gentle recommendation is go to a range.
One of the great things about people that are firearm enthusiasts is they're always so willing to help people that are starting out, or people that maybe you know purchase the new firearm and get familiar with that firearm, learn firearm safety.
I mean, that's what my parents did to me when I was very young, and I became a pistol marks marksman at a young age.
And only because my mom being a prison guard, she had a revolver on, you know, on her nightstand a lot of times, and they knew they had a curious, you know, child in the house uh that was rambunctious, and that was me.
So they took me down and I learned firearm safety, and I it became an enthusiast at a pretty young age.
I'd I'd hang out at that range, you know, I was probably annoying to all the people that were there because I'd be there so often.
And then they they spent the time and they they taught me not only safety, but how to be, you know, a marksman at that point.
And I'm glad that I learned.
I've had a carry permit my entire adult life.
Believe it or not, I had a carry permit when I lived in New York City.
I had a or New York State, but I had one for New York City.
I had one because I worked there.
I had one uh when I lived in California, I had one in Alabama, I had one in Georgia, and I have one here in Florida.
And I you just as long as you take safety and make safety a top priority, you're gonna be fine.
The beauty of Sig Sour is they have more engineers that work on the precision of those firearms than any single company.
As a matter of fact, I would argue probably more engineers than every other company combined.
They keep building out the next generation of superior weaponry.
That's why our military, the official sidearm is a sighour.
And uh I think that uh in terms of quality, you can't do any better.
You really can't.
And you made a really good choice.
I didn't know the rose, I haven't talked about because um I I don't know if I uh look very masculine with a rose version, Sig Sour.
Yeah, you need to definitely look into it.
It you can buy the handgun separately, you can buy it in the nine millimeter or the 380, but you can also buy the kit, and it comes with a I think it comes with a video where she explains how to assemble and disassemble your gun.
And I will continue with my instructor.
He's gonna show me all that stuff because I want to be super comfortable with it.
Yeah, listen, then if you do that, you're that means you're a responsible firearm owner.
Um I've had many people over the years call this show.
Uh Hannity, I'm thinking about getting a gun.
Uh what should I get?
An AK, an AR, and I'm like, okay.
So just take a deep breath.
I said, I really you you can't go wrong with a firearm.
For most families, probably if it's just for home protection, not for carry, which I believe you should carry.
Uh I think for most people, a shotgun is probably the answer for home security.
Uh, and they're very easy to use, and you can learn how to use it very quickly, and you can get one that you can handle, and it would take care of any emergency if somebody invaded your house.
I also believe in the non-lethal option, which is burner, and I actually have both options available to me.
Yeah.
But I applaud you and and the your approach to this is frankly textbook, and I hope that anybody that's considering it will consider that.
Now, six hour, they have the best academies ever in the entire country for people that really want to take you know their firearms level uh even higher.
It's the that's available to you as well.
And about a third of their employees, they have nearly 4,000 employees or ex-military guys, and they're wonderful people.
And I'm just telling you from my own experience that I I've I've been at a ranges where people maybe they're gun jams or maybe you know they're they're they're they have a new firearm that they've never dealt with before and they're afraid.
Anybody will stop what they're doing and spend all the time that you need to help you.
And if you want to get a lesson, they have people there that will will spend the time to just give you the individualized attention that will make you you know very comfortable with a firearm.
And uh, and I look, unfortunately, in this day and age, I think everyone needs one.
And I wish it wasn't the case, but I'm giving you the reality.
This way, you know, there's a violent crime every 26 seconds in this country.
That that ought that tells you everything you need to know.
Well, I just thank you so much for inspiring me to uh to be on this journey, and I know that you've probably inspired other women as well.
You know, people just don't always call in, but I just felt like I needed to call in and tell you this, and thank you.
Yeah, I appreciate it.
Thanks, Liz.
Glad you're out there.
Uh thanks for uh checking in with us today.
Hope you'll call back.
Uh all right, we have a minute.
We'll give it to Brian in North Carolina.
Brian, how are you?
Uh the minute is all yours.
Make it count, my friend.
Hey, Sean, it's great pleasure to speak with you today.
Um I'm a big fan because of my late mother, so uh she loved you, absolutely loved you.
Um Thank you.
I'm sorry you lost your mom.
Yeah, thank you.
Uh reason I'm calling is under terrorists.
Uh really interesting standpoint as I listen to your show every day.
Um I I work for a company that has a little less than 400 people, and um we actually have a pro a main product that we ship in for manufacturing.
Um we've been getting it from China forever.
And we actually just need the move, and we spent about four to five million dollars.
And I'm sorry, I can't I gotta be vague about it, but we spent about four to five million dollars on this product.
We are in the process right now of changing uh where we ship that from, and we're actually gonna start doing it from Korea.
You know, look, I I I read an article in the New York Post today that small companies are being uh worried about the impact that this short-term pain will cause them, especially because China's gotten so aggressive.
I'm expecting the president will sign deal after deal after deal after deal, and things are gonna settle down for most of with the U.S. and most of the world.
China will will might be more protracted.
I think ultimately they come to the table.
I think ultimately they need access to our markets.
That's my prediction.
That's my hope.
I can't say for sure, but that's what I believe will ultimately happen.
In the meantime, people like you are coming up with creative ways to find alt alternative sources for goods and services that you need.
That's that's being a good business person.
Anyway, my friend, I wish I had more time.
Um on the clock here.
But that's going to wrap things up for today.
