All right, news roundup, information overload hour 800-941-Sean, our number.
You want to be a part of the program.
We spoke a lot yesterday about what happened in the Monday Night Football game to DeMar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills, and he took a hit to the chest.
And even Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who were making the call on Monday Night Football, it was not extraordinary.
It was a normal, everyday hit that a player takes.
Listen.
You're essentially a weak side linebacker in the run game as well.
His hit is wide open to McDreal and lowers the shoulder for 13.
This word Joe Burrow is so good.
And now another Bills player is down.
Tell exactly who that is.
Maybe Hamlin.
Jordan Poyer was able to go tonight.
He was iffy.
They're only Pro Bowler on this very good defense.
Hamlin's taking the place for the injured Micah Hyde.
And that is DeMar Hamlin.
A big piece of this defense for Sean McDermott.
DeMar Hamlin fell at 8.55.03, was on his back, and it went from wondering what was going on to wondering about head injury to then them frantically administering CPR to this 24-year-old safety.
And this is a Bills team.
During the break, we watched Sean McDermott call his team over and say, we're going to say a prayer.
We're going to say a prayer for DeMar.
By the way, the family of DeMar Hamlin has given an update today, telling the NFL network that Hamlin is still sedated.
He's improved 50% oxygen on a ventilator.
That's a great sign, by the way.
The Bills player in his second year in the NFL, however, does remain in intensive care.
They said right now they've got him on a ventilator.
So they're just trying to get him to breathe on his own.
So we're kind of taking it day by day.
What then happened after that hit for nine minutes, they were performing CPR.
They brought out the paddles.
They were able to resuscitate him.
Thank God, get him in an ambulance.
And then we saw something that was, you know, out of a terrible tragedy, and our prayers are with DeMar and his family.
We saw something pretty amazing.
And this is one of the reasons I've said so often that politics and sports don't mix.
That's why I never liked what Colin Kaepernick was doing.
So you had this amazing moment where both teams, you know, there's this old saying that there are no atheists in foxholes.
And you saw all these guys, number one, both teams surrounding DeMar Hamlin the way they did, praying the way they did.
The coaches acting to honor DeMar Hamlin, saying we can't play a game under these circumstances.
We didn't know if this guy was going to live or die.
We're all praying for his survival.
And you saw goodness and greatness and a camaraderie in football that I can't recall in my life ever seeing.
And it was a pretty special moment.
Unlike, again, you know, adding politics to sports.
I always say this.
You know, it's one of the most unifying things.
You've got people in a stadium, all backgrounds, all races, all colors, all religions, all socioeconomic backgrounds.
And they're there with a common passion, a sport, a common passion, a team, strangers high-fiving each other, sharing popcorn, buying beers.
I mean, it's just a great environment.
Don't bring politics into it.
And that didn't happen on Monday night.
On Monday night, we saw the best in the NFL, in my opinion.
I want to get the opinion of one of the greatest sports broadcasters of all time, friend of this program, personal friend of mine, wrote a best-selling book about GOATs, some of the great athletes, the greatest athletes of all time.
Jim Gray is back with us.
How are you, sir?
I'm great, Sean.
Good to be with you.
I've never seen anything like that.
This was not an extreme hit.
Well, no, it's a very, very rare occurrence.
I mean, we see torn ACLs.
We see head injuries.
We see all kinds of hands broken.
We see all kinds of things in professional sports.
Sean, it's a 100% injury rate when you take the field in the National Football League.
There isn't a guy out there in week 17 who isn't injured.
Okay, something's bothering him.
Something's hurting him.
He's had treatment probably numerous times for something.
What we rarely, rarely see is somebody collapse like DeMar Hamlin did and rarely go into cardiac arrest.
And let's just hope, as you've said numerous times, we're all praying for his survival and we're praying that he leads a normal life and that he's able to come out of this.
But let's also commend the National Football League, the city of Cincinnati, the first responders.
Had this happened to anybody anywhere else at any time, there would be virtually no chance of survival.
But those folks were out there within seconds.
They knew exactly what to do.
They tended to him in a loving, caring, great way.
And now, you know, according to the ball club and to family members, he's showing signs of improvement.
We can only hope that that improvement continues to take its course.
But just a phenomenal, phenomenal response immediately to what had happened.
And there's a lot of risks inherent in professional football.
It says it in your contract.
It says that every time you put on your helmet, there is a warning on the back of your helmet that what you are doing is dangerous.
And you don't expect this.
It happens very, very infrequently.
But anything can happen out there on the field.
And unfortunately, this tragedy occurred, Sean.
You and I share a passion for gladiator sports.
You love boxing.
I love boxing.
You love football.
I love football.
You love UFC.
I train UFC.
Obviously, not as kind of those guys.
I don't know what you're doing.
No, don't put me on.
Oh, you don't?
No, I don't watch UFC.
I don't know UFC.
I have tremendous respect for the athletes, but I've never partaken.
Maybe I just remember the night that Mayweather took on Conor McGregor, and you were interviewing, I think it was Mayweather afterwards, and it couldn't have been more gracious.
May Margaret and McGregor.
Yeah, Mayweather and McGregor.
Was on Showtime.
It was a combination of the two.
But I don't know anything about the sport, and I don't follow the sport.
But once again, I have tremendous respect for those athletes and what they put themselves through and competitors that they are.
But I'm not a lover or have any knowledge of it.
So when you look at, are you against it?
I'm not against it.
If those folks want to do it, that's up to them.
It's very popular.
Those people are tremendous competitors.
I've been in boxing for 45 years.
So that's the sport that the combat sport that I know that I'm involved with and that I love.
MMA and UFC, I don't know it, and I'm not involved.
I'm not against it at all, but I'm not into it.
No worries.
You do a podcast every week with Tom Brady.
Have you talked to him about the Hamlin hit?
We spoke briefly yesterday, yes, and he sent out a tweet expressing his concern and his prayers for Hamlin and also thanking the cities and communities of Cincinnati and Buffalo for their responses and for the overwhelming support and thoughts and prayers and love and attention that DeMar is now receiving.
You know, it was amazing the people of Cincinnati that showed up outside that hospital.
How inspiring was that?
It's just great.
I mean, you know, look, when these guys are playing, Sean, they want to win the game and they are doing everything possible and they're knocking the heck out of each other.
But at the end of the game, you see it every week.
You see it all the time.
They're hugging each other.
They're smiling.
There's a brethren there.
They're swapping jerseys.
You know, and the competition's over.
It ends.
And then a lot of these guys next year, they'll be on, you know, one of their opponents' teams and they jump around.
So, you know, they're trying to win the game, but they all really deeply care about each other.
And whatever there is, there's 53-man rosters, maybe 70 people who are players with the practice squads and so forth.
Those 70 times 32.
Okay, so we're talking about 2,300.
There are really only 2,300 men and some of those in college who can understand what something like this, when something like this happens, what they're going through.
None of the rest of us can really even begin to grasp what they are.
If you've ever had the lucky opportunity, which I have on numerous occasions, having been able to work for these networks, NBC and CBS, of being on the sidelines and down on the field, it's a wonder, Sean, that anybody ever gets up after any play.
The speed, the power, the violence, the aggression, the excellence and the achievement that they perform at these high, high rates of speed, as I just said.
It's incredible the punishment that the human body takes that these guys inflict upon each other.
It's astonishing the shape that they are in.
They just bounce right back up and do it again and again and again.
Unfortunately, DeMar Hamlin didn't bounce back up this time.
But I hear people saying now, you know, they need to change the game and they need to, look, the game of football is dangerous, but everybody enters this by their own free will.
No one is forcing any of these players to do this.
They want to do this.
They love doing this.
So they have changed the games.
They've made the rules safer.
There is no longer contact on defenseless receivers.
There's protecting the quarterback rules that have changed.
A lot of the rules have gone toward the safety of the players, and I'm sure they will continue to evolve.
But football is football.
And this is what these guys sign up for, and they're aware of it.
And they don't want what happened to DeMar Hamlin.
They did not sign up for that.
Nobody signs up for cardiac arrest.
Okay?
Nobody.
That's really not what football is.
But everybody knows the danger.
What is the average professional career length for an average player?
Three and a half years, I think is the average.
Right around there.
Right around there.
Yes.
Which makes, by the way, I know you're best friends with Tom Brady, which makes his life that much more incredible for the years that he has participated in the sport, culminating last year in a massive Super Bowl win.
And by the way, I watched both of the last two weekends, and his fourth quarter comebacks were pretty amazing.
These are gifted, talented athletes.
You know, everyone from the safety to the middle linebackers to the linemen, they are tough guys.
They're really tough guys.
And, you know, I admire them.
I respect them.
I applaud them.
I admire all of these guys who enter the arena, make the attempt, and perform these achievements, whether it's football, hockey, basketball, baseball, boxing, UFC, all of these guys, males and females.
They're putting themselves out there and they're entering the arena.
And all the rest of us sit back and we watch it.
And we watch it with wonderment.
We watch it with amazement.
We watch it with adulation.
And we watch it.
And sometimes we're critical.
But when we're critical, just think about it, folks, for one minute.
None of you are out there doing this.
None of you are out there putting your bodies and your heart and your mind through all of this.
Yes, I never got hit by a microphone in all the years I've been broadcasting our camera.
Did you?
Did a microphone ever want to hit you?
No, but some guests have wanted to hit me.
That's for sure.
I'm not as nice as you, as you know.
All right, quick break.
We'll come back more with Sports Broadcast, a friend of the program, his best-selling book, Talking to Goats, Jim Gray.
More with him on the other side as we continue.

We continue with Jim Gray as we talk about the latest on DeMar Hamlin.
And, of course, everybody still holds him in their prayers as he is in the hospital, still innovated, but making good progress, according to his family.
You know what's funny?
You're friends with Mike Tyson.
Well, I've had the opportunity to have a couple of private conversations with, as you know, and I think the world of him.
What an incredible athlete he was.
What a great boxer.
One of the best of all time.
And deep down, he's the nicest guy in the world, the most soft-spoken guy in the world.
I love Mike Tyson, and I've been through the entire roller coaster with him, the ups, the downs, the ins, the outs, the growing pains, the, you know, the conviction, the return, and now his walk in life, which, you know, he now has had a major comeback.
And, you know, through it all, I have found Mike to be one of the most honest people that I have ever dealt with because he's willing to take his medicine and not blame anybody else.
He doesn't blame Customato for his demise in life.
He doesn't blame Don King.
He doesn't blame the referee Mills Lane.
You know, he took his own medicine and he paid the price and he rehabilitated himself and he has reintegrated himself back into society.
And, you know, I really have just tremendous love and admiration for Mike in so many regards.
I don't condone his behavior.
His behavior is his accountability.
He has to be accountable for his behavior.
So I don't condone a lot of the things that he has done.
And I don't rubber stamp any of the things that he has done.
Okay, enough caveats about your not respond.
But I will say this final word about Jim Gray is that if Jim Gray thinks you're having a bad day, he's going to be the first person to reach out to you.
I can tell you that.
And that makes you special in my eyes.
Jim Gray, by the way, if you haven't read his book, Coach, you've got to read it.
It's awesome.
Great stories about some of the greatest athletes of all time.
We appreciate you, my friend.
Talking to GOATs, Sean.
Talking to GOATs.
I appreciate you.
I appreciate your friendship, and I appreciate you having me on.
And let's just all pray for DeMar Hamlin.
Amen.
Pray for all these guys in the National Football League because it's going to be tough to get back out on the field for all of those 30, you know, 2,400 players this weekend because, you know, they didn't have that perspective.
If they didn't have that perspective, they now know what can happen.
Yes.
Jim Gray, thank you, my friend.
800-941-Sean is our number if you want to be a part of the program.

You know, let's go to Jim Jordan.
Because a lot of people keep mentioning, what about Jim Jordan?
Why didn't Jim Jordan become speaker?
Make Jim Jordan speak.
Jim Jordan, I've talked to him privately.
I talked to him in November, December, and I talked to him yesterday.
He says no.
He nominated Kevin McCarthy.
Here's what he said.
For what purpose does the gentleman from Ohio seek recognition?
I rise to nominate Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House.
To my friends here on this side of the aisle, I would just say this.
The differences we may have, the differences between Joyce and Jordan or Biggs and Bacon, they pale in comparison to the differences between us and the left, which now unfortunately controls the other party.
So we had better come together and fight for these key things, these three things.
That's what the people want us to do.
And I think Kevin McCarthy is the right guy to lead us.
I really do, or I wouldn't be standing up here giving this speech.
But that's what the American people want us to do.
They want us to fight for the things they care about and they elected us to do.
And we should all remember, we should all remember, only about 12,000 people have ever had the opportunity to do what we're doing today, sit in this body serving this Congress.
It is a privilege.
It is an opportunity.
We owe it to them, the American people, the good people of this great country, to step forward, to come together, get a speaker elected so we can address these three things.
I hope you'll vote for Kevin McCarthy, and that's why I'm proud to nominate him for Speaker of the House.
All right, so there's Jim Jordan.
Anyway, let's get to our busy phones.
Let's go to California.
Eddie is standing by.
Eddie, happy new year.
Glad you called.
I have no idea what you're doing out there in California, and I have no idea why I'm stuck in New York.
What's going on?
Hey, Sean, good to be with you.
Happy New Year to you, and thanks for being the concerned conservative voice that you are out of love for our country.
I appreciate that.
I'm here to give you a critique, a rating.
So we started a new segment on TV last night called Last Call, and people call this radio show between 3 and 6 Eastern.
And some of the callers are asked, would you like to watch the TV show and call in and grade Hannity?
Now, we started with a friend of the show, Don from Lake Ron Konkama, last night, but it's going to be random people at times once they get it up and running.
You want to grade me now on radio?
You can.
You can grade me on radio or TV.
I'll take it.
Hey, I want to grade you on both.
All right.
I'm a big fan.
I was going to give you an A- and all of a sudden I got a guilt trip while I was waiting for you.
I got to give you an A, and there's only one thing stopping you from getting an A plus.
And that is sometimes your lead-in to a question to your guest is rather lengthy, and I think it gives your guests a little less time.
And once in a while, and I get hyper and I get passionate, and I know it's out of your passion for not wanting our country to go down the rabbit holes to save our country.
So sometimes I know you interrupt your guests, but you are awesome.
And I want to mention that and pass this on to Larry Kudlow.
I have an example of a 25% Biden administration inflation in America.
25%.
Easy math.
You ready, Sean?
Yep.
Here it is.
The Dollar Tree in California raised their prices about a year ago to $1.25.
So I don't call it.
I tell people, I go, easy math.
That's 25% inflation.
It's no longer the Dollar Tree.
It's the Buck 25 tree.
That's what I call it right now.
We covered that, and it's even worse because since Biden's been president, the average American household has paid over $10,000 in Biden inflation tax.
Biden new laws that went into effect just January 1st, just a few days ago, include taxes on natural gas and on oil, crude oil, and on coal, and on pension plans and IRAs and 401ks and on corporations.
And corporations don't pay taxes.
They pass that cost on to us, we, the people.
And it's sad because the people that are disproportionately impacted are people that are poor and middle class and people on fixed incomes.
I know what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck.
It sucks.
And let me tell you something.
That is money that people cannot afford.
And Joe Biden broke his promise because he said he's not going to raise taxes on anyone making more than $400,000 a year.
Well, he raised taxes on every American.
And his inflation and his new taxes are impacting the poor, the middle class, people on fixed income the most.
And it's a sad tragedy for all the people that are suffering because of this.
Absolutely, Sean.
Hey, has anybody ever brought this up to you?
All right.
So we had our shots in a booster, and my wife and I and other family and friends had tested COVID positive with very mild kind of cold symptoms or flu symptoms.
But I look at the back of the box that our government's giving us, and the test says made in China from the wonderful folks that gave us coronavirus.
Well, that's a nice way to keep America.
You got to be kidding me.
Give you a sensitive test and have you live in fear.
I don't know if other people have brought that up.
I don't want to see a test from China regarding COVID.
I. I've just given up on ever listening to the government again.
I didn't listen to most of what they said anyway.
I felt uncomfortable giving out or dispensing medical advice because I don't know people's health history or their unique medical condition that they currently have and what's best for them.
That's between them and their doctor.
But I'll tell you, I personally, I'll never trust these people again.
They were wrong.
They lied to us.
They knowingly lied to us.
And it is a tragedy.
We lost well over a million Americans.
And I think they stayed away from the one thing that would have worked the best, and that is therapeutics.
And if you even brought the idea up, you were mocked.
You were ridiculed.
You were called a conspiracy theorist, and so on and so forth.
It's what they've done in this case has been nothing but a national disgrace.
I will never, ever, ever trust these people.
I just refuse.
Now, I trust my doctors, and I trust the medical professionals that I know and know that they do their work.
Listen, on the issue of occasionally being long-winded, which is true, I've worked on that.
I promise you, I pay attention to my listeners, and I'm working hard at letting people talk more and making the questions a little shorter, okay?
Sean, we love you.
I got a wish that I got to share with you.
It's an original from me, but may health, happiness, peace, and prosperity be with America and thee in 23.
God bless you, my friend.
God bless everybody.
I'm wishing everyone all of God's blessings this year.
I worry that this is going to be a very hard, tough year for many, many of our fellow Americans.
That scares me.
Thank you, my friend.
800-941-Sean, if you want to be a part of the program, Francesca, New York, on the Sean Hannity Show.
Hi.
Hi, Sean.
Hi.
Hi, this is Francesca.
How are you, Sean?
I'm good, Francesca.
Happy New Year.
What's going on?
Oh my God, you're the best.
My husband and I, we watch you every night.
We watch Laura Ingram.
We love the cast.
We love you all.
Oh, you're very, very kind.
We can't do this job without your support.
Thank you.
And I just want to, I'm getting emotional.
I just want to say thank you for everything you have done.
And there is this one thing that you can do is get the Republican Party together.
You have the power.
You can do it.
Listen, I'm not going in as hard as people are expecting me to to fix this.
And the reason I'm not is because I think it will resolve itself.
And there are times that there are times to hit hard.
There are people that I'm very disappointed with in this entire process.
And I've told people now, I saw this coming in late November, and I started getting in touch with people.
And I started telling them, you don't want this to unfold publicly on January 3rd.
Here we are on January 4th.
And, you know, there are a lot of people that just didn't listen.
So am I disappointed that they didn't take it seriously enough?
Am I disappointed they didn't take their family disagreement behind closed doors and hammer out an agreement?
You know, the agenda, the irony in all of this is most Republicans agree with the agenda.
There's not going to be disagreement on the investigations or on the votes on the important issues that they ran on, the commitments to America.
You know, why we're going through this ridiculous exercise is beyond me, especially when you have an insurance policy, which is the motion to vacate if Kevin McCarthy doesn't keep his word or any other speaker doesn't keep his word.
So I'm not in the land of panic as so many other people are.
I think it's frustrating.
It's annoying.
I think it's embarrassing for them.
And, you know, we'll just have to wait for them to work it out.
And I think that'll come.
I really do.
It has to.
There's no way they can't not fix this.
But anyway, Francesca, you have a heart of gold.
I'll give you the last word.
Okay, every time when my husband watches Fox News with you and our TV starts to flicker.
It's like they're trying to block you.
I wouldn't be surprised.
I don't know.
Linda, have we had other reports of such?
I don't know.
I don't know if they're trying to block us.
I think they make it a little bit hard, but we'll find a way, Francesca.
Don't worry.
Listen, Francesca, there's no doubt.
I promise you, there are many people on the left that hate the sight of me.
I can walk into a room and read a room.
And in a matter of seconds, I can go, let's say I walk into a restaurant.
I can look at one table.
And if they don't like me, it's visceral.
The reaction.
It's almost like uncontrollable.
My very presence annoys them.
And I do it for security reasons.
And you get pretty good at identifying people that might be a threat down the road.
It's not the best way to live, but I take that as part of the job.
It's not a big deal, especially, you know, I'm a little more careful with when I'm with my kids and people I care about.
I don't want them to get caught up in my world.
They didn't sign up for this.
I signed up for this.
Linda signed up for this, and she regrets it every single day of her life.
That's not true.
I've been here for 18 glorious years, every minute of them, more special than the next.
How good am I, though, at reading a room and identifying people that hate me?
Well, I mean, typically, if I'm not there, it's easy.
It's like everybody in this room hates me because Linda just went to the bathroom.
So it's a tough room.
Oh, because so your presence makes them all happy.
Is that what you're saying?
No, I'm just breaking your stones a little bit.
No, I mean, you do.
I mean, I've been with you for some choice moments.
You know, the Ben Sass the Ass moment was a highlight.
That was a highlight.
Rumbo, Deadfish, Emmanuel was another fun one in the airport.
Was it the airport?
I'm trying to remember.
Oh, no, DNC?
What was that?
Yeah, somewhere like that.
Screaming.
You screaming down the hallway.
Rumbo.
I'm like, wow, subtle, Sean.
Super subtle.
I just wanted to say hello.
I was just trying to be kind.
Very inviting.
Vocal.
Deadfish.
Well, then there's moments like when I ran into Carville at the DNC with Mary Madeline.
I mean, he gave me a big hug.
Yeah, but you guys have a nice, you guys have a very nice.
You have a good rapport.
You do.
You know, we've done speeches, debates together.
I remember one debate.
It was in Alabama.
It was a year that Alabama was playing the championship game against LSU, his beloved Tigers.
And the entire time, all the audience wanted to talk about was college football.
I just sat there for like an hour and a half, two hours.
When it was done, I got paid and I walked out the door.
I want to go back to where we started on the program earlier today because I know some of you are frustrated.
You're getting angry.
You're wondering why this is happening.
Let me just calm everybody down a little bit.
This is going to get resolved.
The one thing you can have confidence in is this.
The agenda is not going to change in terms of the House Republicans.
They all agree on the agenda.
They just, you know, 20 people don't agree on who the speaker should be.
And you have the stopgap measure or insurance policy, whatever you want to call it, which is the motion to vacate.
But the agenda about investigating the FBI, if it's politicized, the DOJ, if it's weaponized, is going to happen.
The investigation into Joe Biden and influence peddling, that's going to happen.
The investigation into the origins of COVID and Anthony Fauci, that's going to happen.
The investigation of the Afghan withdrawal is going to happen.
Republicans are going to vote on border security bills.
They're going to vote for lower taxes.
They're going to vote to defund the 87,000 new IRS agents.
They're going to vote for energy independence.
Now, they can't pass everything until we give them more support in the Senate and take back the White House.
But all of that, I predict, is going to happen.
And the good news is if it doesn't happen with whoever ends up being speaker, there's a stopgap measure, an insurance policy, where we can all hit the pause button and get somebody who will do the job.
So it's not as dire as everybody else is making it to be.
And I don't have this sense of, oh, should they have resolved this ahead of time?
Yeah.
This is a little embarrassing.
Yep.
Did I warn them?
Yep.
I warned them.
But we'll get this worked out.
