The views expressed been a host on this program, documented to be almost always right, 99.7% of the time, that's the most listened to radio talk show in America.
It's the most talked-about radio talk show in America, the most talked-about host on the most talked-about radio show in America, and the most frightening and irritating to its critics, radio talk show in America.
It is all of those things.
And it is hosted by me.
Just a totally humble, harmless, lovable, hardly even noticeable in real life, little fuzzball.
Ill Rushbo is who I am.
The all-knowing, all-caring, all-sensing, all feeling, all concerned, Maha Rushy.
And the phone number, if you want to be on the program, and our remaining busy broadcast hour is 800-282-2882.
Now, just as the coverage of global warming shows that mainstream media reporters don't know any science, and they don't.
Their coverage of global warming illustrates perfectly their total ignorance on science.
And it shows their ability to be totally ignorant of sets of facts about that issue, which disprove what they believe.
They are totally unaware and uninterested.
and Because it's not a story, it is a cause.
Well, just as their coverage of global warming shows that reporters have no knowledge about science, so does the Drudge story show that the media has literally no understanding of economic and tax matters.
I think the mainstream media is pig ignorant of practically every discipline except party discipline.
Now, here's basically what happened.
Matt Drudge is a self-employed small business man.
As a result, Matt Drudge pays himself.
He does not have an employer.
Therefore, he does not get paychecks that contain all kinds of withholding for taxes and Medicare and FICA, Social Security and whatever else.
He has to pay all of his taxes separately and independently because they're not deducted.
As such, as a small businessman, Matt Drudge and millions of others just like him, including your harmless, lovable little football football host, pay our taxes every quarter.
We have to pay what are called quarterly estimates.
This is what Matt Drudge does.
And it can get a little complicated.
April 15th, the first payment is due.
June the 15th, the second payment is due.
September 15th, the third payment is due, and on January 15th of the next year, the fourth and final payment is due.
Therefore, the first payment for the 2015 income tax year.
Matt Drudge has to pay it on April 15th, as does everybody else who files quarterly estimates.
This simple fact is something that the smartest by reputation— Mainstream media reporters simply cannot understand and cannot get their arms around.
Matt Drudge sent out a tweet on Friday in which he said that in his first quarterly estimate coming up in April, he will be paying his Obamacare penalty for not having insurance.
And the media jumped all over him.
They called him a liar.
They told him he didn't know what he was talking about.
Mainstream media reporters, the White House jumped all over Drudge with their agents on Twitter, Facebook, and the rest of the mainstream media, and said that Drudge was lying to embarrass Obama.
That Drudge didn't know what he was talking about, that Drudge was stupid, that you don't have to pay your Obamacare penalty until 2015 because it's been delayed for a year.
Matt Drudge pointed out, no, not for us.
I have to pay my 2015 taxes starting in April of 2014.
And they can't understand this.
It is amazing the degree of ignorance.
He has talked to three or four of these people in person.
The last one he talked to has admitted that he's probably not lying, but that he still doesn't have to do what he's doing.
Fact of the matter is, when you file your taxes next April for this year, 2015 for 2014, everybody will have to pay the penalty.
Except those of us who pay quarterly estimates have to pay our taxes during the year.
And as independent contractors, we have to pay everything that's due, estimated as it goes.
The estimates can be very complicated.
You can't simply take what you earned last year and divide it by four and make those payments.
Because if you underestimate how much you owe, you get socked with a huge penalty.
So the safest thing to do is overpay a little bit.
So Drudge went ahead and made a payment on his penalty for not having Obamacare insurance because he's not gonna buy it.
He's gonna pay the penalty.
And at his income level, his penalty be 1% of his annual income.
Because the penalty form is it's either 1% of your income or some other thing.
It's the greater of the two, not the lesser of the two.
Here's how Breitbart reports the story.
A White House aide set off a stampede of liberal media criticism for Matt Drudge over Obamacare, but his critics don't seem to understand how small businesses pay taxes.
The Bruhaha started when Drudge tweeted, just paid the Obamacare penalty for not getting covered.
I'm calling it a liberty tax.
Jesse Lee, the director of progressive media at Obama's White House, responded that was a flat lie, no fee for previous year, adding scary how much influence Drudge once had.
So Obama's own acolyte, Obama's own White House smear merchant, doesn't even understand.
Matt Drudge is not paying last year's taxes in April, like you will be.
He is paying the first payment the government is due this year, as is everybody else.
When Matt Drudge files his return if he waits till April 15th, or if he's maybe already done it, let's say he hasn't, if Matt Drudge files his April 15th payment, he's already paid his taxes in four installments.
He's just filing the return.
He's already paid the money.
Matt Drudge paid the bulk of this year's taxes last year.
And he's paying the bulk of next year's taxes this year, as is everybody, every small businessman, who is an independent contractor and files quarterly.
And yet here's this White House tweeting out flat lie, no fee for previous year.
He's not paying the previous year.
Drudge is paying this year's taxes.
He's paying taxes on the year that the penalty will be imposed.
He knew it, and his accountant knew it.
He has to make the first payment on the penalty by April 15th.
He went ahead and did it.
He filed early, just to be safe.
Scary how much influence he once had.
Was he talking about Obama?
Moreover, why is there even a director of progressive media at the White House?
Is there a director of conservative media there?
Just kidding.
Now, Jesse Lee, Lee's response to Drudge set off a fire storm in the liberal media, with many mainstream media and left-wing reporters countering him on Twitter, and in their own articles to claim he doesn't have to pay Obamacare's individual mandate tax until next year.
The individual mandate went into effect January 1st of this year.
Most people paying their taxes right now are paying taxes for 2013.
Dude, there's no penalty until next year, said Sahel Kapoor of Talking Points Memo, he tweeted.
Kapoor's colleague, Dylan Scott, wrote a full story with a headline alleging that Drudge was probably lying.
Americans don't pay a penalty for not having health insurance until they file their 2014 taxes in 2015, Scott wrote.
So either Drudge is lying or he paid a huge penalty a year earlier than he needed to.
Sam Baker National Journal tweeted penalty isn't collected until 2015.
The Huffing and Puffington Post, Jerry Jeremy Young wrote a full article in which he described Drudge's tweet as weird, a little head scratching because the Obamacare tax doesn't kick in until the 2014 tax year.
Drudge indicated in his follow-up tweets that since he's self-employed, he files as a small business.
And according to the IRS website, for self-employed individuals, they are required to pay their taxes quarterly.
As a self-employed individual, generally you're required to file an annual return and pay estimated tax quarterly.
So when they file and pay those 2014 first quarter taxes, such individuals have to pay the Obamacare individual mandate tax if they opted to not have health insurance.
It's on the IRS website.
And still the media is running around calling Drudge a liar.
Drudge is abiding by the law.
They are calling him a liar.
They're accusing him of trying to damage Obama.
He is now referring to them as the Obama media.
Additionally, ladies and gentlemen, the IRS form 1040 ES.
That's the form you use when you file quarterly estimates.
The ES there is for estimates for those of you in Rio Linda.
The IRS Form 1040 ES for estimating quarterly taxes specifically recommends adding the mandate penalty line 12 for other taxes to pay before the first quarterly deadline of April 15th.
It is true that thousands of small businesses will be forced to pay Obamacare taxes quarterly in 2014, according to a Senate budget committee aid.
Breitbart tracked all this down.
You would think mainstream journalists, maybe they can't be bothered to chase down such minor details.
Drudge even indicated in follow-up tweets that hey, the law says go look at the website.
I've got to make the first payment on this penalty before April 15th.
Left-wing reporters at the White House have left their criticisms of him intact, even though they are totally wrong.
Drudge then tweeted, Dazed team Obama media reporters think opt-out taxes a year away, not for small businesses that file quarterly estimates.
We're there now, baby.
And I tell you, Drudge is right, I'm in the same boat, folks.
But the point here is that this is total willful ignorance on the part of people who are supposedly, as members of the media, experts on taxes and economics.
They are supposed to at least know more than you do so that they can tell you what all this means when it's discussed in the news.
But they are so in the tank for Obama that all they're attuned to is anything that might appear harmful or damaging to Obama, they then have to circle the wagons.
And as is always the case, rather than debate the merits of anything, the objective is to smear and destroy whoever they consider to be the enemy of Obama.
So Obama and his people make haste and write all over the place that Drudge is a liar.
That Drudge is probably lying, that Drudge is simply trying to hurt Obama, or that Drudge is stupid and is paying the tax a year before he has to.
But regardless, the simple truth is they don't know the law.
They do not know.
They are our media guardians, and they do not know.
They're not interested in knowing.
Not one of them looked at the Drudge tweet and said, Well, I wonder what this is about, and went and checked it out.
Without exception, they all descended on Drudge with the effort to impugn and destroy him.
I talked to Drudge about this.
He said he's talked to four reporters, and only one of them has finally concluded that he's probably not lying.
Probably not lying.
Probably not lying.
But that he's still wrong.
It's right there, the IRS which right there on IS IRS Form 1040 ES.
In a there, there is a line.
Other taxes.
That's where you are required to make your first installment on your penalty for not having Obamacare.
And if you don't make the payment as you file your quarterlies, you don't have until April of 2015 to pay it.
You've got to pay it now.
People who are paying and filing.
See, you if if you don't do quarterly estimates, your taxes are withheld, but you don't report anything until beginning in January of the next year.
So most people will not start filing their returns for this year until next January, February, March.
Quarterly filers are paying and filing four times a year.
They're not having anything withheld.
They have to do that themselves and estimate what they owe, and they've got to be close.
If they underestimate, then there's hell to pay for doing that.
That's why you have to have an accountant figure it out for you.
I gotta go.
We'll be back after this.
Drudge even linked to the IRS form, the 1040 ES that shows quarterly estimate filers are required to pay their Obamacare tax penalty this year, and the media still claims he's probably lying.
And he did that legwork for them.
So the whole point of this is, folks, it's not just that they're in a tank for the Democrats and then the left and then they're biased.
They're genu that they're they just don't know anywhere near as much as people assign to them.
I I you know, we talk about low information voters.
We've got low information media, and they are not aware of what they don't know.
They are so arrogant about their all knowingness that they can't conceive that they don't know anything.
And when they're in counter it just plummoxed.
Okay, time now to get back to the phones because people have been uh waiting patiently.
This is Matt in Becker, Minnesota.
I'm glad you waited.
Uh welcome, sir, to the program.
Hi, Russ, how are you?
Just fine.
I'm uh I'm great, thank you.
Oh, I'm uh I've been listening.
I'm only 25 years old, but I've been listening my whole life.
My dad used to have you on the car all the time.
Well, I appreciate that.
Twenty, I mean this program's twenty-five years old, so you have been listening as long as there has been a program.
That's cool.
Yeah, well, Rush, I wanted to uh just call you in uh little something I've noticed here.
I feel like uh with this Malaysian jet crashing, uh, as unfortunate as that is, it really has given the media uh a great excuse to ignore uh Obama and the rest of the G7 leaders and their gross mishandling.
Oh no, question about it.
I mean, while we got Putin doing this, Obama's filling out his March Madness brackets and the media totally devoted to the plan.
You're absolutely right.
And it's it's so frustrating.
I consider myself kind of a history buff, and uh doing a little research on this.
The last time I could find where a Dutch that has annexed part of a country under the guise of his countrymen living there, Hitler annexed the Sudetenland, and I think it was 1939.
And uh the European leaders and the United States leaders at the time, uh I believe it was the Munich conference.
Let me ask you a question out there, Matt.
Even if there had been no Malaysian jet crash or accident, do you and even if the media were covering this annexation of Crimea, now the move on Ukraine and maybe Estonia Estonia, do you think most Americans would care?
I think you know what, I don't think they care.
I don't think they'd really know.
I don't think they'd take the time to uh go out on their own and dig deeper, uh at least deeper than what the media would tell them anyway.
I feel like they would take it at face value and just let me tell you what the frustrating thing is.
If this were happening, and here it comes, it's the it's the same old response.
If the if a Republican president while this was happening, I guarantee you, Matt, the media would be overdrive.
In overdrive, pointing out the importance and blaming the president for ineffectiveness and laying all of this at the feet of the Republican president, how Putin is taking advantage of a weakened United States because we've got an ineffective president.
They would talk about the war in Iraq and how many Americans died and how that has paralyzed American foreign policy, how that has paralyzed American military responses to anything, and how rotten the war in Afghanistan was, how we didn't get Obama, or sorry, Osama, and they would be delaying it, and in every hour, every day they would be hammering the president for allowing Putin to get so big and do that.
That's and they would make people care.
They would spend as much time on it as it took them to cause a Republican's president's poll numbers to start plummeting.
The difference is they protect Obama.
They keep any story harmful to him at bay, and when if if his approval numbers start to fall, they try to prop them back up by showing what a cool guy is Obama with his March Madness brackets as he goes to ESBN to talk about it.
The uh that this is why I I get a little still, as you as you well know, I get frustrated when I hear people, not you, Matt.
I get frustrated when I when I hear people expecting the media to behave fairly and differently than they are.
It isn't gonna happen.
They're not media folks.
They work in media and and they they do quote unquote the news, but they're political activists now.
They're really not even hiding that very well.
They are perpetuating and advancing the Obama agenda, the Democrat Party agenda.
Uh That's their purpose.
The left has succeeded in taking over journalism schools.
And as such, they've taken over the education of journalists.
And now journalists are not educated in journalism.
They are educated in liberal activism.
It's just that simple.
And because they're educated by liberals, they're not educated to learn.
They're not educated to be open-minded and curious.
They're not sponges absorbing things.
They are activists who are moving a cause.
They were all at one time in their lives young, very impressionable, wanted to get into journalism because they wanted to change the world, or they wanted to do whatever powerful things they thought being a journalist allowed them to do.
So they go to the J schools, and the J schools have been totally taken over, like every other big-time university department by the left.
And it's often said that Harvard and the Ivy League is the training ground for young liberals to end up in government in the bureaucracy.
Well, journalism school is the training ground for young liberals to end up in the media.
They're all the same.
They just have different assignments job-wise.
Whatever happens in the world is going to be shaped or how it's told.
Now the story is told is going to be shaped by how can it help or protect Democrats and how can it harm Republicans?
It's no more complicated than that.
And if we could just get people to see that's what media has become, then we would make some progress here in curing low information itis.
The problem is the people in the media also are low information.
As evidenced by their total, total ignorance on global warming.
Because see, that's not a news story that has facts that you can acquire and learn and report the truth about.
That is a cause of the left to be advanced.
The Matt Drudge story illustrates, I mean this is perhaps the perfect story to illustrate.
A, how ignorant they are, and B, how cause-oriented they are.
Drudge tweeted on Friday something damaging to Obama.
They had to destroy Drudge and what he said in order to protect Obama.
This penalty thing for not having insurance, that's everything about Obamacare is a negative.
And anybody who gets a negative aspect of it out with credibility has got to be destroyed, ruined, or corrected, because it's all about protecting Obama.
Pure and simple.
Here is uh Catherine in Southern California.
You're next.
Great to have you with us.
Hello.
Hello, Rush.
Megadiddo.
Thank you.
You are my favorite harmless little fuzzball.
Hi.
Absolutely love you.
Um my mom listened to you, my grandpa did, I do now, and I hope my kids do too.
Um something I just wanted to touch on that you're talking about earlier in your program.
You're talking about overprotective parenting and the left.
And also, I also think another point about the left is that they're also encouraging parents not to have more kids because of this ridiculous notion.
There's overpopulation, and that's part of the problem with overprotective parenting, because if you only have two kids, two kids are pretty easy.
You know, I came from a family of seven children.
And even if my mom wanted to be overprotective, she couldn't because there was too many of them.
It's a good point.
If you've only got if you only got one or two kids, and you're right, by the way, the left is encouraging fewer children so as not to destroy the planet, protect natural resources.
I have a two-year-old and they have a nine-month-old, and then hopefully we'll continue having more, but my mom had seven children, so we were unsupervised a lot.
Wait, but how many kids do you have?
I have two.
My mom had seven.
And you want three more, or you uh I want three more, yeah.
I want three more.
Hopefully if we can make it without being taxed to death in California.
I watched I saw an episode of a TV show that I watch now and then last week or two even the Chicago Fire.
And one of the firemen had seven kids.
And he decided to give his wife on their twentieth anniversary of vasectomy.
He he got up as and he went out and he made a cake that was in the shape of of male sexual organ tied off.
Oh my gosh.
And I just wonder if if you had your seven kids and then your husband got a vasectomy and gave you that as an anniversary present, would would that be cool, or would you?
Um I'm pretty conservative in all realms.
I I don't know what I think of it.
I don't know.
I I just think people should have children how they whatever number they fill and not be put down by the left because there's a lot I totally the left.
And you want to have three kids, great.
Right.
It's none of the left's business how many kids you have.
Yeah, but don't tell me I can't have seven.
I mean, or I can't have five kids.
I live in Southern California, and even here when I tell people I want five.
No.
I mean their eyeballs pop out like, you're crazy how you're gonna have five kids.
And I just think it's none of your business how I have five kids.
I'm educated.
I think you had a great point, Catherine.
Um parents with seven kids, e there's not time to be overprotective of them.
They're gonna be on their own.
There's gonna be, in fact, you remember hearing the stor I I I hear these stories even now of people who came from large families, how at dinner time you had to show up first if you were gonna get anything to eat, because sometimes there wasn't enough for everybody to get an equal share of everything being served for dinner.
And you had to even fight for what you got to eat in large families.
That was certainly true in uh long ago days, even true somewhat uh somewhat recently.
But that's the kind of behavior.
Um there's no way to self-protect from that or overly protect from uh Hair's all snurly away in and says, yeah, back then the women knew how to cook.
You know, I think that's making a rebound, by the way.
Women cooking wanting to.
I think that's making a rebound.
And just my casual observation of the culture.
I think it's making a rebound.
It's not making a lot of people happy, but it is making a rebound.
Ladies and gentlemen, I, El Rush Bowl, have an announcement to make.
I alluded to this a couple of weeks ago.
The children's choice book awards is the only national book awards program where the winners are selected by young people, kids, and teenagers.
It was launched in 2008 by two organizations, every child a reader and the children's book council.
And the program celebrates young readers by recognizing the books that matter the most to them.
In 2013, over one million votes were cast by kids and teenagers.
This year, young readers can vote for their favorite author, illustrator, and book of the year from tomorrow, March the twenty-fifth, to Monday, May twelfth at CC Bookawards.com.
And we will not gonna do it today.
We'll put this link at Rushlimbaug.com tomorrow when voting begins.
Every child a reader is a literacy organization dedicated to instilling a lifelong love of reading in children, and Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims has been Nominated.
Nominations, I'm uh one of the four finalists for I think Book of the Year, Author of the Year, maybe both, not sure which.
And the readers, the kids vote.
It's totally democratic.
The nominations are determined by sales, not by choice or any other kind of bias.
Strictly by sales, and Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, one of the top-selling children's books of all of last year, is nominated.
We're very proud.
We're very honored here.
Uh this obviously it's irritated some on the left who are trying to get us denominated.
That's how intolerant they are.
In fact, it was funny, the Huffing and Puffington Post, in doing a story on this, how outraged they were, had a headline.
Do you believe we live in a world where Rush Limbaugh is nominated for children's book award?
They're just beside themselves.
But it is a distinct high honor.
And all of us here are very proud.
And I wanted to mention this to you, and we will link to the website where readers can vote beginning tomorrow.
It's called the Children's Choice Book Awards.
And I can understand the left being ticked off about it.
I mean, the last thing in the world they thought would ever happen.
And they're trying to exert pressure on this group to uh uh get me removed and typical things that people on the left do.
It is author of the year for which I am nominated.
Author of the year, children's choice book awards.
And the voting by the kids, by the readers, begins tomorrow.
We'll have details then, and we'll be back tomorrow.
