Rush Limbaugh, having more fun than a human being should be all I have because I am doing what I was born to do.
It's a thrill and a delight to be with you on Friday, my friend.
One big, busy broadcast hour remaining from a sunny, golden opportunity for you.
You know, it might be helpful.
Mr. Snerdley is out on vacation today.
HR is screening, and he is much, he has a much, how should I put this?
A much more discerning ear when screening calls.
For example, I'm seeing something I never see with Snerdley.
I'm looking up there.
We have three open lines.
That never happens.
What that means is that HR is getting rid of a lot of people, even on Open Line Friday, that he thinks is boring.
Yeah, the call screeners here, you wonder what I'm like off the air.
Call screeners are terrified of putting up bad calls because I just sometimes don't wait for the show to end.
What in the heck were you thinking?
It's not what they told me they wanted to say is the standard excuse that I hear.
Anyway, there are lines open, which means if you act fast, you might get through.
It's a long shot because actually the lines aren't open.
We just haven't answered them and put one up.
But I'm just telling you, they're only well, I won't give you the number here because we have buku lines, as you can imagine, being the most listened to show in history.
But there are opportunities.
I mean, some of you probably don't even try to call occasionally because there's no way you're going to get through.
And that's why I'm telling you there looks like there's opportunity now.
800-282-2882 and the email address El Rushbo at EIBnet.com.
Everybody remembers Dan Quayle.
Was that a grade school?
It was a spelling bee.
And went in there as vice president and playing around with the kids, which is what politicians do, because, of course, it's all for the children, which it is.
That's why everybody does what they do for the future, for the kids.
Responsible people want to leave a country, culture, society in at least the same shape they found it in.
If it was pleasing to them, if it offered them opportunity, they want to pass that on.
Most want to improve it.
Most want to leave a better life, leave a better life for their kids.
And so it's custom for presidents, vice presidents, politicians to venture to screw all and then.
Vice President Quayle participated in a spelling bee, and the word was potato.
And the word, the spelling that he was given had an E on the end of it.
And when the child spelled potato without pronouncing the E, the vice president called him on it and said, oops, oops, oops, sorry, you blew it.
It's P-O-T-A-O-T-O-T-E.
No, it's not Andy.
No, Ian.
And Quayle, right here it is.
And that's all it took from then on.
Dan Quayle, biggest idiot on earth.
And that image lasted for quite a while.
Last night in the White House during the Women of Soul event, while there is war brewing in the Ukraine, and while people are continually losing their jobs and losing their health care, and people economically at their wit's end, something that the media has, that's another thing the media hasn't reported, much less the truth about the lowest learner IRS situation.
Do you know in five years the media has never really done a story or series of stories on people suffering economic hardship?
Not one.
That's just not going to happen.
They're not going to blame Obama.
In fact, if Obama says the economy is coming back and we're creating jobs, stimulus work, that's what they're going to report.
Because there has not been a story or a series of stories on people suffering joblessness.
In fact, we're not only not getting that, we're being told it's great to lose your job.
Yes, fun employment was the first thing they coined shortly after Obama was immaculated.
Fun employment.
Yeah.
Lose your job and reconnect with your family.
Lose your job and find what is important to you.
Now, lose your job and be liberated and discover the inner painter that is in you or the inner poet that is in you.
And we, the government have made it possible for you to not have to work in order to get health care.
So now you're not locked in to a job you hate.
You don't have job lock anymore.
You don't have a job, but you've got health care.
We have liberated you.
That's the kind of insulting pap that we've got.
The economy, job circumstance situation, it's just a disaster and it is worsening.
The debt is worsening.
The number of people thinking the government should provide for them is growing.
And yet the regime is partying on.
Much of out vacationing.
Obama, the politico, another story today about, oh my God, he's going to have to delay his vacation because of the Ukraine situation.
Oh, no, our poor president is going to, oh, no.
They're really sad at the Politico.
So they're partying on at the White House last night during the Women of Soul event.
And President Obama said this about the singer Aretha Franklin.
When Aretha first told us what RSPECT meant to her.
Now, the laughter went on and on and on.
And if you saw the video, Obama's not quite sure why they're laughing.
Now, here's a president who misspelled the word respect.
But no, that's not what really happened.
He knows how to spell respect.
Come on.
Here, listen to Gail King set this all in proper perspective.
She was on CBS this morning and they're talking about last night's Women of Soul event at the White House.
They continue to party on.
Gail King and Charlie Rose had this exchange.
Nora O'Donnell's in this too.
Wish we were there.
Didn't I read the Franklin?
Respect.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
I think he was trying to think of the words to the song.
I think that's what happened there.
A little brain fart for the president happens to everybody.
Did she say she said she said that on the CBS morning show?
That when DL King said that?
Did she say that?
No, I haven't.
I've said fard, farting in the car, but I've never said, well, I may have quoted somebody saying that.
The president had a brain.
And you know what he was doing?
He was trying to think of the words.
That's not what happened.
What happened was whoever put it on the prompter left the E out and he didn't know what to do.
If it's not on the prompter, he is lost.
That's why he knew that respect has an E in there, just like Quayle knew how to spell potato.
He knew that there was a typo on the teleprompter and paused and didn't know what to do.
What he should have done was, he said, this is an RSP.
Wait a minute, where's the E?
See, it's R-E-S-P-E-C-T and gone on.
Or he could have made fun of the teleprompter or whatever, but he's so slavishly tied.
Oh, bad word.
He is so inexorably tied to the prompter that if it's not right on the prompter, it's like stage fright since then.
And that's what he wasn't thinking of the lyrics.
But you see, when Quayle, and by the way, it's according to the New York Times even, Quayle was relying on cards provided by the screw, and the cards have the word potato misspelled.
And Quayle said he was uncomfortable with the version that he gave, but that he decided to trust the school's incorrect written materials rather than embarrass somebody at the school.
Quayle was actually, if you want to know the truth, Quayle was being polite.
He knows there's no E on potato.
It's some idiot at that school that misspelled it, and he didn't want to call him out.
He didn't want to, he's the vice president.
He's supposed to take the hit on stuff like he's not going to call out somebody at the school, embarrass them.
But he took the hit, and the media knows that he knows how to spell potato, but it didn't matter.
Create the image, blithering idiot.
But with Obama, oh, no, no, he knows.
And he knows how to pronounce corpsman, too.
For example, here's other words.
And Obama doesn't know how to spell respect.
Listen to this.
This goes by fast.
It's six seconds.
Navy Corpsman Christian Bouchard.
Corpseman Brichard.
Corpsman Brichard.
Corpsman.
Three or four times.
It's Corman.
Oh, he didn't know corpsman.
It's military.
Why should he know?
And by the way, in 2008, Memorial Day, Las Cruces, New Mexico, Obama actually said that he saw people, dead people.
He saw the dead in the audience.
On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes, and I see many of them in the audience here today, our sense of patriotism is particularly strong.
How about that?
On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes, and I see many of them.
I see them.
I see them in the audience here today.
Hey, dead guy.
Glad you could make it.
American hero right there.
See?
Fallen.
Hey, Rush, he knew he's so smart.
We can't keep up with him.
Don't you know, Rush, it's dangerous to even try.
We're just so far behind Obama when it comes to IQ.
We can't hope to understand where his mind is.
It's just light years ahead of us.
And this, of course, the image that they have created.
And when I said it's party time at the White House while the Russians invade Ukraine, I'm not kidding.
This is what the smartest man in the world was doing last night while the Ukraine crisis was unfolding.
Ladies and gentlemen, we want to thank you for coming out.
The president and the first lady for being so very gracious to us.
So warm.
Making us welcome in this historical house tonight.
Yeah.
Always on the one.
Right?
They're always on the one.
That's how you do it.
That's how you do it.
Oh, yeah.
Big crisis going on.
And it's the White House last night.
That was Aretha Franklin, by the way, pausing to breathe after every two words.
You've seen her lungs.
That's Aretha Franklin.
Tuck it in church on a Thursday night.
Thanks, everybody.
We're not blasting the plate tonight.
I think that's against the rules.
Thank you, guys.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
Give all our artists a big round of applause once again.
Thank you.
Back to the phone streak.
It's Open Line Friday.
And this is Mary Beth in Gravette, Arkansas.
Welcome.
Great to have you here.
Hello.
Hi.
Thanks for taking my call.
Yeah, you bet.
Thank you for waiting.
Oh, I've been waiting for eight years.
Well, we'll make it worth it.
Thank you.
I am calling to talk to you about how out of touch Washington seems to be with the people trying to have enough money to put gas in their car or pay their utility bills or buy food.
And nobody's listening to the news about Obamacare because they have bigger fish to fry.
Well, I'm not so sure because Obamacare is affecting people.
You know, I think they're listening to it.
And I think the more every day there's another story about a drastic loss of coverage, treatment, Maya, seriously.
I understand that.
But what I'm saying is people, people just, there's other things besides just Obamacare.
And if there's just more things going on and Washington is so out of touch, the gas prices are.
I don't disagree with that at all.
I mean, if you look, Washington, D.C. now is, I think it's in the top three wealthiest areas of the country.
The unemployment rate in Washington is around 3.5%.
The per capita income, there is no recession in Washington, not even close.
None whatsoever.
And I guarantee you, people that live there and work there and don't get out just assume, you know, the economic numbers are stats.
The unemployed are statistics.
They're not real people.
They're not lives that have.
And I'm just not talking about unemployed rush.
I'm talking about people that are just trying to survive.
You know, do the congressmen, do the senators fill their car up with gas?
Do they know what it costs to put a kid through college?
Do they know how much a gallon of milk is?
I think they do.
I think they just assume that everybody's able to come up with it.
If they're not, there's some government program to help you.
But if you have a college education, if you're married, if you have a brain, it's real hard to get on some of those programs.
They just put you off and put you off.
And if it wasn't for people's family stepping in, parents, grandparents helping people today, it'd be so much worse than what it is.
Yeah, but we're nearing the point, Mary Beth, where the grandparents of tomorrow aren't going to have the money to help the grandkids and the parents.
Right.
So here's the thing about this.
And this is just the way it is.
Of the two political parties, one political party is very happy with this.
The more people in dire straits who depend on them and government, the better.
That's a winner for them.
That people in need, needing government program here, government assistance there, food stamps over here, that's a guaranteed lock on power.
And that's why liberalism and the Democrat Party offend me and anger me because they're literally consciously destroying people's lives and their future.
They're busting up families.
The other party, the Republican Party, used to loudly stand for economic freedom, economic growth, rugged individualism, self-reliance, hard work.
Look at that Cadillac commercial that's caused so much controversy.
Are you aware of that?
Were you listening yesterday?
Yes.
That Cadillac commercial that talks about how you get things in America, you work hard.
We don't talk about vacations.
We don't stroll to the espresso shop.
We work.
We work hard.
And the left is outraged by this commercial because it makes fun of Europeans and it stresses work over vacations and enjoying life and all this.
The Republican Party used to stand as the opposite for what the Democrats believe in.
So one of our problems is that one of the two political parties is actually cool with the economic circumstances that you describe.
The other part of the police.
Maybe it's time for everybody to go because that's not how I was raised.
I was raised to take care of my family.
I mean, that's how my husband and I have raised our children.
And we've, you know, paid for their education.
You were the providers.
And now they can't get jobs.
Right, right.
You were the providers, and you raised them to be able to provide for themselves.
Correct.
And you counted on the fact that there was going to be a sizable growing economy that they would have a chance to grab a piece of.
Correct.
That's shrinking.
More and more of that economy is being taken over by government by design and on purpose.
Look, I agree with you.
I think that there is a tremendous amount of aloofness in Washington.
I think there's a tremendous amount of what you say, people that no longer can relate to just the normal things people encounter today that are more difficult than they've been in the past.
The necessities.
When you talk about gasoline and food, you're not talking about luxuries.
You're not talking about desires.
You're talking about needs.
And what you're really saying is that the needs that everybody has are now dangerously close to unaffordability for a growing number of people.
And it's the Democrat Party, Mary Beth, is describing this as the new normal.
Look at the Keystone pipeline.
You think The vast, there's an ABC New Washington Post poll.
The vast majority of people want this.
They want it okay.
They know it means cheaper gasoline prices.
But it's not going to happen because of Obama.
I'll give you the details of this when we come back.
Thanks for the call, Mary Beth.
Tammy in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Hi, great to have you here.
Hi, Rush.
How are you?
Just fine.
Just fine.
Great to have you.
Thank you so much for taking my call.
I was told that if I'm quick, I could thank you for helping my husband and I win a game that we played in our Sunday school class.
The game was called the Not So New Newlywed Game, and one of the questions was, have I become more like him or he like me?
And I said that he has me listening to Rush now, so I'm more like him, and our answers matched.
Cool.
Thank you.
Well, you're more than welcome.
That's a cute little story.
So the reason I called is I'm also a Mac fan, like you are.
And I finally convinced my husband that he should buy me a new laptop.
And I was going to ask you what you recommend, but after hearing what Tim Cook said to shareholders, I'm a little sad and upset and feel like I shouldn't waste my money.
So I'm just wondering, you know, what you feel about the future of Apple without Steve Jobs.
Oh, man.
Oh, man.
What a question.
I've lived through the years without him, and I don't want to do that again.
Well, the short answer is that if you want to buy a new Mac laptop, go do it.
If you're worried about how long Apple's going to be around, don't worry about that.
Your Mac computer will have a long life and it will be serviced properly.
And whatever Tim Cook said in the shareholder meeting will not affect whatever you're able to accomplish with your Mac computer.
Now, if you're having second thoughts about buying because of what he said, then that's another story.
That'd be a personal decision that you would have to make.
I was a little upset at first because I'm just so sick and tired of these people.
And I mean, as a marketing, from a marketing standpoint, why would you want to turn people away?
He didn't think he was.
See, this is the key.
He didn't think he was.
I'm convinced of it.
For those of you who don't know what happened, Apple had a shareholders meeting a couple weeks ago.
And one of the groups that owns Apple stock is a very respected group of conservative scientists.
And they happen to be of the opinion that man-made global warming is a hoax.
Amy Ridenauer runs this group, and one of her lawyers showed up representing the group and during Q ⁇ A actually got the microphone, got to ask Tim Cook question.
Now, Apple has made a big deal out of being responsible environmental partners.
They are building data centers all over the country in North Carolina, in Oregon, in Utah, in Nevada.
And these are giant server farms to handle iCloud and Siri and all these internet services that they're doing.
And they are very proud when they tell you that they are close to using 100% renewable energy to power them.
In addition to the data centers, like in Maiden, North Carolina, they've got this giant solar panel farm.
Now, remember that Al Gore is on the board of directors there, Tammy.
Yes.
Okay, so that Al Gore, environmentalist nutcase personified.
Now, Tim Cook, I don't know Tim Cook.
I'm going to assume that Tim Cook believes in man-made global warming.
I'm going to assume that he thinks man is destructive and that his company is going to engage in responsible environmental behavior.
But also, I'm convinced that Tim Cook believes that Apple's customers are also of like mind.
I think Cook believes that the majority of people that buy Apple stuff want Apple to be stewards of the earth and not destroy the environment.
So I don't think that Cook thinks when he, and he wasn't really rude, but he told the guy that asked the question, the question to Cook basically was, look, this is not proved.
This man-made global warming is not proved.
You're dumping a lot of money here into essentially a hoax, and that money could be better spent on shareholder value, on profit.
And Cook said, if you don't like the way we are doing our environmental policy then, get out of the stock.
Well, that you never hear a CEO telling people not to buy the stock, no matter what.
You just don't hear that.
And Cook says, look, there are a lot of things we do here at Apple, but we don't concern ourselves with return on investment.
Like, we have all kinds of programs built into the iPhone and the iPad for the deaf and the hard of hearing and the blind.
And we don't care about the profit that we make there.
We're doing that as a service to our customers.
We don't do ROI on everything we do.
Now, the question then became, well, what is his job as CEO?
Is it to be steward of the earth or is it to guarantee, promote value for Apple shareholders?
And there have been, depending on where you look, there have been scathingly critical editorials of Cook.
One was Investors Business Daily.
There are others that have been praising him to the hilt for being environmentally conscious and a brave guy and understanding that we are destroying the planet and that Apple's a great steward.
I'm sure Cook thinks that he was scoring points with the vast majority of Apple customers and investors with that company.
That would be my wild guess.
Now, your question, your decision is, okay, here's this company.
Got CEO, said what he said.
Do you want to help that company's profit line by buying its products?
That hurts.
And if you don't, then you've got to find a substitute or a different computer to go buy.
Your problem is you like Mac.
Yeah.
But you don't want to prop up something that you might politically disagree with.
But at the same time, you wondered if what he did was going to hurt their growth.
They're in a phase right now of comparative no growth.
They're still growing, but not as rapidly.
And the future doesn't look as rosy as it did years ago because the market, the smartphone market's getting saturated.
There just aren't as many people that don't have them to buy them now.
So everybody, the investors, are waiting on the new category.
Will it be the TV?
Will it be the iWatch?
Will it be something else, a new version of something that nobody's got or a better version of something?
It's already out there.
And nobody knows that yet.
So I think Apple is a long-term buy.
I think if you're going to buy stock in Apple, you just sit tight on it.
It's not going anywhere.
But your question really has to do with do you want to prop up a company or at least patronize a company that CEO basically told people like you to take a hike.
I know Jobs was more product over ROI, which I hate, you know, but I don't think that's let me tell you something.
Jobs was the same way.
just wouldn't have said what Cook said.
Jobs was far more conservative.
At least not, no, let me take that back.
Jobs was a pure capitalist in a liberal body.
He managed to convince the American left that he was one of them while he is out there kicking capitalist butt day in and day out unapologetically.
He was totally oriented toward money, totally oriented profit, totally oriented innovation, totally, totally, totally.
And he didn't even give money.
Jobs canceled the Apple charitable program when he reclaimed a CEO job in 1997.
Cook put it back when Jobs died.
So in terms of this pure profit, Jobs was full speed ahead, but Jobs also very seldom appeared in the conference.
He didn't talk to investors.
Cook always did that, even when he wasn't CEO, along with the CFO.
So I don't know what to tell you because stuff, I didn't particularly appreciate it, but it's not going to make me throw away my Apple stuff.
No, yeah.
I mean, I know who they are before I buy their stuff.
I just love their stuff.
It's the best.
There's nothing even close to it.
You're not going to find not just a computer.
You're not going to find the ecosystem that goes along with that computer buying anything else.
You're just not.
You have an iPhone?
Do you have an iPad?
I have a mini.
Okay.
Well, you're going to, those things, if you're an iCloud, you're going to be able to sync them, have the same important data on both automatically.
You won't have to do anything.
It'll just happen.
If you go buy a Windows machine, then your iPad's going to be entirely different from what's on your Windows machine.
And they're not going to be compatible in a whole lot of important ways.
I'm not trying to talk into it one way or the other.
I marvel at them.
They're literally the best at what they do.
Yeah, I agree.
I may put it off for a long while until I can.
You know what?
I understand this, but life's just get what you want.
Get what you want and enjoy it.
And it's still a free country.
And I guarantee you not buying a Mac is not going to affect Tim Cook's day.
In fact, you don't want, he'll never know if you don't.
I know.
I have to run, Tammy.
I'm way late here.
Tammy, I know you're still out there.
Your dilemma is the same as liberals.
If they want to listen to radio, they've got to listen to this one.
It's the best.
And they might hate everything I stand for, but they got no choice if they want to listen to quality, entertaining, fun, good, enigmatic, gripping radio.
They have to listen to me.
Just like you might have to go buy your MacBook.
Life is filled with compromises.
Folks, I had just enough time to say thank you for being with us.
