Welcome to today's edition of the Rush 24-7 podcast.
You all remember uh Maya Angelou at the um at the Clinton inaugural back in 1993.
Some of you might not remember she did the official poem at the Clinton inauguration is called De River de Rock and the Tree.
And given what she has said about her desire to have a gun, maybe she should do a new poem called De River de Glock and de Tree.
Live from a Southern Command in sunny South Florida.
It's open line Friday.
Not so sunny here, folks.
We've got we've got pretty uh what's the word um I don't know.
We get global warming kind of weather.
We had lightning last night.
We had, you know, it rained really hard last night.
It had to be global warming.
A real, real, real hard rain.
Uh so hard couldn't let the dogs out.
It's so hard the birds were walking.
And there was lightning out there, and it's still um overcast and cloudy.
Certainly it's gonna be sunny tomorrow just in time for golf, but it isn't right now.
Not that that matters a hill of beans to you.
Here's a phone number if you want to be on the program today, the 800-282-288-2.
It's open line Friday, which means that it's the one day of the week you on the phones get to talk about whatever you want to talk about.
I put aside the requirement that I have to be interested in or care about what it is that callers are going to talk about.
Friday I broom that as uh I'm a benevolent dictator here, but it's my way of taking a giant career risk at the same time, letting people bring up on this program what they think needs to be discussed, whether it uh has been or hasn't.
Again, telephone number 800-282-2882.
Folks, I don't know how else to categorize this.
We are living in a dying country.
I don't know how else to categorize what's happening.
88,000 new jobs.
The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%.
The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful.
Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce.
90 million.
People not in the labor force grew by six hundred sixty-three thousand.
To now ninety million.
That's the labor force participation rate.
This is nineteen seventy-nine levels.
The only difference is that we don't have an election around the corner to fix it like we did in 1979.
We had that election last November and we blew that.
In addition to payrolls, only adding 88,000 jobs.
An additional 81,0800 went on disability in March.
We are now up to 8.8 million Americans on disability.
We had nearly as many people go on disability in March as people who found jobs.
I think it's official.
We have a dying country.
There is literally no way That our entitlement programs and our safety net and our absorption of immigrants, legal or otherwise, can be supported this way.
This simply cannot be sustained.
Don't know how else to describe this.
The unemployment rate of 7.6% is ridiculous.
The U6 unemployment rate still are around 15%.
That is the unemployment rate you get if you add people who are out of work and looking for a job, and people who are out of work and have given up looking.
Those people have been out of work for a long time.
They've had 99 weeks of unemployment benefits, and they've given up looking.
So they're not counted.
In the reported unemployment percentage of 7.6%, if they were counted, the number would be 15%.
And if there were not the demographic weighting, the 7.6% number is arrived at estimating certain factors as being in existence or being true based on demographics.
So there's a there are assumptions made about employment, unemployment in the Hispanic community with women, the uh uh black community and so forth.
If you if you take those uh this and Jim Petha Cucas, our buddy at the American Enterprise Institute.
If you take out all of the demographic weighting, let me give you another example of weighting, and let me use radio numbers for it.
The way radio ratings in local markets, there are minority owned and operated radio stations.
For the purposes of I don't know.
This goes way back, by the way.
I for the purposes of communication, I'll just tell you that for the purposes of affirmative action, the audiences of minority stations were always bumped a little beyond what the actual ratings were.
It was part and parcel of uh recognition of past discrimination, it was part of making amends, uh, it was part of affirmative action, and it was it was accepted.
I mean, it was no nobody complained about it.
It it just it's the way it was.
People did business that way, but nevertheless it existed.
You agree with me on this.
What?
Well, right, there's a whole bunch of reasons.
Yeah, the the the ratings didn't reach minority people was one of the explanations of the old diary system.
Now it's the one-eyed one-horn flying purple people meter, whatever it is, but they didn't read.
Didn't reach these people.
So it was just estimated that audiences to minority radio stations were much higher than they actually ended up being reported as being.
That's called waiting.
And it was done for well, the same thing is done in employment.
Same thing is done employment unemployment numbers.
And Mr. Pepukas's point is if we just dealt with what the real numbers are, as Bob Johnson was the other day, unemployment of black community 15%, black teenagers 25%.
If you deal with those numbers reality, his point is that the U3 number or the 7.6% number would actually be 9.9.
If we just took the data and just reported the data as it is without any demographic weighting, then we'd be at 9.9%.
Not 7.6%.
At this point, it's like yesterday we had the number of um the report and the number of applications for unemployment compensation was skyrocketed back up 388,000.
Much higher than what was expected by the experts.
And of course, that number will be revised upward even more in a couple of weeks.
You have to work really hard to find that revised number, but it'll be around 400,000.
In the meantime, while all this is going on, the regime's running around talking about our economic recovery and why we've got to start making loans to people that can't pay them back again to boost the home market that's recovering.
It's it's I don't know.
It really is obscene.
There is no housing market recovery to speak of.
There's no recovery anything to speak of here.
And now we're going to start making loans to people can't pay them back.
Banks are being forced to do this by the regime so that those people are not left out of the this housing boom.
Folks, it's utterly ridiculous.
7.6% unemployment weighed against 90 million Americans not working.
And the labor force participation rate also includes the number of jobs that have disappeared.
They're no longer in existence.
They're not there to be filled by anybody.
The regime does that to get that number down to 7.6%.
If the universe of jobs available shrinks, then the percentage of people out of work will be smaller by definition.
I can't tell you how many months I had to go through fisticuffs practically to get people to tell me, you know, who are telling me I didn't know what I was talking about to convince them that I did.
But if you if your universe is 100% and your unemployment rate 7.6%, then what do you figure?
You get 93 whatever percent of the people working.
Well, what if your universe shrinks to 80%, but you still call it 100%?
That's what's happening here.
Are 100% of the jobs, there aren't 100% anymore.
It's shrunk.
The number of jobs that are available, a number of businesses which are open, the number of businesses which have jobs to fill, plummeting.
We're a dying country.
Everybody knows it.
It's it's you know, even Ichabod Goolsby, who is uh former economics guru in the regime, you're now in the private sector making legitimate money.
Iqabod Goolsby said, well, this is like a punch to the gut.
And we've got we've got some sound bites and and and news stories here where all these experts just can't believe this.
Why this doesn't make any sense, all the things, and of course they're blaming the sequester for this.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, it's a sequester because that means it's the Republicans.
Except the sequester's got nothing to do with this.
This all started January 21st, 2009.
That's when the intense trend began with the with the immaculation of Obama and the mythical stimulus package.
We we're we're a country in decline.
And the president is presiding over a country in decline.
So he's got a budget that he's gonna be presenting soon, we're told, and one of the things that the president is going to do to generate revenue, because see that's the problem.
Do you know in the midst of all this what the big problem is the government is not have enough money?
It's not that the country doesn't have enough jobs, it's not that people in this country aren't earning enough salary, wages, whatever.
No, no, the problem is the government doesn't have enough money.
And so the president is going to try to get more money by placing a $3 million upper limit on tax preferred retirement accounts.
So he's going to take even more money from the so-called rich under the guise they're not paying their fair share.
Because the government's running out of money, and we cannot have that.
So payrolls grow by 88,000.
81,000.
This figure, 82,000 new Americans on disability.
In March.
Total of 8.8 million Americans on disability, and every damn one of them feels justified.
And I'll tell you something else.
All of the people, 90 million Americans.
Ladies and gentlemen, 90 million Americans are not working.
But they are all eating.
And they are all using cell phones.
And they are all watching television.
And most of them are driving.
I don't know how this.
I don't know how this can be sustained.
The blogger at ZeroHedge.com, a guy named Tyler Durden, which is a stage name, says things just keep getting worse for the American employee and by implication, the U.S. economy, where, as we've shown many times before, it pays just as well to sit back and collect disability and various welfare and entitlement checks than to work.
The best manifestation of this, the number of people not in the labor force, which in March alone grew by 663,000.
They want to tell us that there were 88,000 new jobs in March when the number is 663,000.
Over a half million people dropped out of the labor force.
That means they either lost their jobs or stopped looking for one.
What is this 88,000 people found work?
Compared to the 663,000 who dropped out.
A record 90 million Americans are no longer even looking for work.
I don't even want to get into whether it's their fault or not.
Well, folks, everybody has to eat, and they are.
Democrat Party seen to it.
This was the biggest monthly increase in people dropping out of the labor force since January of 2012, when the Bureau of Labor Stats did its census recast of the labor numbers.
Even worse, the labor force participation rate plunged to the lowest level since 1979.
But, in a perverted way, that many people leaving the workforce shrinks the universe, and it makes it possible to say that unemployment's improving.
I'm not kidding you.
Even Mr. Durden makes the point.
If you shrink the universe, then the percentage of people not working gets smaller, and you can say, we added 88,000 jobs.
Not like we'd want, but we're working at it.
We're adding 88,000 jobs.
The unemployment number coming down.
And as far as low information America is concerned, that's it, and that's all there is to know.
Hi.
How are you?
Welcome back.
Now, the way the drive-bys are treating this, folks, the drive-by media, state control media, is either pretending that the March jobs report is good news.
Some of them are.
Some of them out there are actually trying to pump up 88,000 new jobs as a sign of Obama's robust recovery and his expertise.
are saying it's bad news.
Are saying it's bad news and it's the fault of the sequester.
If you want to say it's the fault of anything and you want to get that specific, you'd have to look at the payroll tax holiday ending first.
But this is all happening because of the policies of the president.
There's no argument about that.
I mean, I know that people still want to blame Bush.
And I know that the president, Limbaugh theorem, is running around still trying to fix all this.
None of this is his.
People don't attach his policies to this.
But, Amazingly, the low information population still views the president as working tirelessly to fix all this.
Trying to come up with something that'll work because he cares about everybody.
But this has nothing to do with sequester.
It has nothing to do really with the payroll tax cut.
AP, by the way, Associated Press.
Last week they eliminated illegal immigrant from the style book.
Today, AP has announced, wait for it.
The term Islamist is no longer permitted in the AP style book.
Sit tight, my friends.
There's much more explanation and lots more news coming up.
Music Having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have.
It's Rush Limbaugh serving humanity here at the distinguished and prestigious Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.
We're on open line Friday.
And your telephone calls are coming up.
So the AP style book.
The AP style book, ladies and gentlemen.
No longer will the word Islamist be permitted.
Last week it was illegal immigrant that was banned.
When I saw this, I sent a note to some friends.
The note that I sent to my friends said, Boys, I think we're long past bias explaining all this.
And I think we are illegal immigrant stricken.
AP is the nation's largest news source.
It's not Fox News, it's not the New York Times, it's not the Washington Post, it's not ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, the LA Times, none of that.
The AP is in thousands of papers.
It is a credible news source for all news outlets.
More people are exposed to what is written by AP every day than anybody else.
Last week Islamic illegal immigrant stricken today, Islamist is gone.
And I I said in the note to my friends that boys, bias just doesn't explain this anymore.
It's not just a bunch of people there.
But there's something else going on.
And I'm going to tell you what I think it is.
Nothing new.
Nothing you haven't probably thought of yourself.
I don't think there really are any news outlets left anymore.
What you and I consider news, there isn't new news is what happened that we don't know about, that somebody is out there finding out and then telling us.
That's not news.
Everything today is an agenda.
Everything today is promoting the leftist agenda.
There are no news outlets anymore.
It's all opinion.
Everything, everywhere, is opinion.
From the cherry picking of information, what is going to reported, be reported, and what's going to be edited out.
What's going to be reported and what's going to be ignored?
Cherry picking of information, editing the choice of the experts that will be called upon.
In economic news, the experts who are always surprised that no matter what direction the unemployment news goes.
If only 88,000 jobs are created, experts are surprised beneath expectations.
Or it's above expectations.
It's one of the two.
The timing of the release of information, it's all opinion now.
and it's all I think journalism students, there may be some, but I really think that the editors at news organizations today are the political operatives.
And the reporters are the interns in the operation.
We're long past bias now.
What we've got is actual Democrat Party apparatus in the news, disguised as journalists.
They come out of journalism school.
What are they taught there?
So when the AP says, you know what, we're not going to call them Islamists anymore.
That's not a journalistic judgment.
That is a partisan political judgment.
Ditto illegal immigrant.
One other thing about this that I think the news media is party to.
If you didn't know any better, you would believe today that Obama is really desirous of having a budget deal.
And if you didn't know any better, you would think Obama's really serious about solving the immigration problem and coming to an agreement on it.
Even if it's everything he wants, you would think that that's what he's targeting.
And if you didn't know any better, you would think that Obama really, really does want the employment situation to improve.
And in each of these instances, I'm of the firm belief that he does not want anything solved right now.
I don't believe he wants a solution to immigration.
I don't believe he wants a solution to the economic problems.
I don't think he wants a solution on gun control.
If if you were, you know, low information guy or gal, and you're sitting out there consuming whatever news you get, you are probably the opinion the president's working very hard to keep kids safe.
And he really, really wants to come with something.
He wants to compromise.
He wants to reach an agreement with the Republicans, and he wants to, he wants to make guns harder to get for bad guys.
You probably believe all of that.
When in fact, that's not what he wants.
Obama doesn't want a solution to any of this.
Because these are all campaign issues.
Never happened.
But the Republicans could, as a test, offer him everything he's asking for.
He would reject it.
Dahner did this, by the way, in one of the fiscal cliff or rolling budget negotiation issues, be it continuing resolution or what have you.
Gave him everything he wanted.
Obama said, nope, well, you know what?
I want $500 billion more in tax increase.
And he blew up the deal.
Just like one year Yasser Arafat was making demands of Clinton for peace in the Middle East.
And Clinton gave Arafat everything he wanted.
Arafat said nope and retreated into his uh into his home in falafel or wherever it is, and just checked out.
And it's the same thing with Obama.
I'm telling you, he nor the Democrats want a solution.
Mr. Limbaugh, do you really mean that the president is really thinking not that they're going to agree with immigration?
I really mean that.
I really, really don't think the president wants an immigration deal right now.
I think he's going to do if if this gang of eight came up with something and the House came up with something, came up with this workable, real border security.
You know how I know this?
Big sis, Janet Napolitano has already torpedoed one of the first requirements of the gang of eight, and that is border security.
Because I'm telling you, without that, there is no end to immigration.
But if the border is not locked down and unmade secure, you've just here come the next 11, and it's it's all academic.
It's not a solution to anything.
And the president doesn't want that.
And Big Sis said she doesn't want that.
They're all saying no way we're going to tie border security to this.
They're torpedoing it.
The problem is that there are some Republicans in the gang eight who don't care about it either, although they say so.
But there's some Republicans in the gang eight who will take an immigration deal tomorrow, no matter how bad it is.
But Rubio is holding out.
Border security is his big deal.
My point with all of this is that every one of us as consumers of news are actually being insulted.
Because there isn't any news.
It's all the Democrat agenda.
The narrative every day is the Democrat agenda.
The narrative every day is the success of the Obama administration.
The news every day is how the Republicans are a bunch of screw-ups.
The news every day is whatever's going wrong is the Republicans' fault.
But there isn't any news.
The news would be that the President doesn't want an immigration deal.
The news would be the President really doesn't want a gun control deal.
Not now.
The president wants all of these issues with the media, quote his...
They really are, folks.
They're they're willing accomplices.
They are not reporters and editors anymore.
They are Democrat campaign consultants and interns.
And the objective here is 2014.
These issues must be kept alive and presented to the people as reasons to vote against Republicans so that the Democrats can win the House in 2014 and keep the Senate.
And then after that, if that happens after that, there's no such thing as a lame duck second term.
And there's there's no need for any politicking or compromise or anything.
You win the House, you keep the Senate, you're in the why not, you do whatever you want.
You don't need to compromise with any.
Why compromise with the Republicans on immigration and not get everything you want when all you've got to do is wait a year, year and a half, and in that year and a half, make sure that nobody's going to vote Republican and then have it all and have everything you want with no opposition, which is the objective.
Eliminate all opposition so that whatever you want doesn't require any hearings, it doesn't require any testimony.
You present the bill, it gets rubber stamped in the House, rubber stamped in the Senate, sent to the White House, it gets signed, and that's it.
You can do it in 20 minutes.
That's the objective here.
So don't get caught up in the back and forth of any negotiations on gun control, immigration, uh economic matters, because that's not what is on the agenda.
If you step back, look at it objectively, take out all of the things you don't like about politics, and just look at this.
As one side wants something and the other side wants something different, and the one side that wants everything wants it all.
How can they get it?
It's right there at their face.
I mean, they're they're within a year and a half of having it.
Why compromise now when you don't have to to win the election?
They don't they don't have to compromise to win the election.
Because they've got the media.
The media is gonna effectively hammer the Republicans, blame the Republicans for everything that has gone wrong the last five years that will go wrong between now and election day.
So what you can do is you can make proposals.
Proposals that you know the Republicans will not agree with, but you will be portrayed by your colleagues in the media as compromising, as giving away quite a bit in order to get a deal.
And it's gonna be the Republicans that won't compromise.
It's gonna be the Republicans who are inflexible.
It's gonna be the Republicans who are highly partisan.
It is a continuation, if you will, of the limbaugh theorem, which holds that Obama has a free reign on wreaking whatever havoc he wants on the country, but nobody who voted for him associates him with what's happening.
A vast majority of everybody in the country opposes Obama's policies left and right, but they don't think Obama's policies are being implemented.
They think the Republicans are stopping him.
They think Obama really wants to bring the deficit down.
Obama said I'm not going to do anything, it adds a dime to the deficit.
They believe him.
They think Obama's trying to create jobs.
He's trying, but the job situation keeps getting worse.
Media tells them it's the Republicans are intractable, won't compromise.
President's offered all kinds of stuff.
A Republicans just won't work with him.
Because there is no news anymore, and there aren't any news outlets.
Not in the mainstream media, not certainly the dominant what is called a dominant media culture.
All right.
Must take a timeout, ladies and you sit tight, we'll be back, got much more coming up.
Don't go away.
The official program observer boasts nerdily just...
Just asked me a question.
And he does.
He follows the news, he's a he's his nose is in it all Debbie.
He's an addict.
Just like we all are here.
I hadn't seen this number, 663,000 people left the labor force.
Where'd you get that?
I said, Well, I got two sources for it.
One is James Pethacucas at AEI, American Enterprise Institute.
The other guy that Tyler Durden at ZeroHedge.com is a former Wall Street guy who got out of it and now runs a blog, and they just report the government data that the media doesn't.
It's exactly what I'm talking about.
There there aren't any news outlets anymore.
The number of people who left the labor force is not hidden.
It's not sequestered away where you have to dig deep with passwords to find it.
It's part of the BLS report.
But you don't get it.
AP, all the other news agencies, they report 88,000 new jobs unemployment rate down 7.6% because they're Democrats.
Vested interest Democrats.
They're not journalists.
So they see something 663,000 people left.
Unless they can make the case that the Republicans are to blame for it, they'll not touch it.
Now, in this case, they had to report that 88,000 is a disappointing number, the new jobs that were created, so they blame the sequester.
Let me tell you what if if there is a culprit here above and beyond just generically Obama, I mean, but that is your answer.
Obama's policies, the gut the policies of the United States government are giving us these results.
But specifically Obamacare.
People are being laid off left and right because of Obamacare because it's too expensive.
The people that have small businesses are not able to comply with the law.
The law requires them to provide X in terms of health care.
It costs more than they can afford and stay in business.
They are firing people.
They are laying people off.
They're converting people to less than 30 hour a week part timers.
Because the alternative is to comply with the law and go out of business.
It really, it isn't brain surgery, but you must have a solid foundation of knowledge that Against which to compare everything that you learn.
If you if you don't have an understanding of the rules and regulations of Obamacare, if you don't have an appreciation for what the purpose of a business is, I mean, how many people think the purpose of a business is to provide jobs and health care for people?
You'd be shocked at the number of people.
And what's the purpose of a dress design to make clothes for Kim Kardashian While she's pregnant.
What's the purpose of Glamour magazine?
To put the latest pictures of some actress on a beach in Florida on the cover.
Well, the purpose of Obamacare is to make sure that everybody gets free health care.
But instead, businesses are firing people, laying them off because they can't stay in business and comply with the law.
It isn't a sequester.
Now, legitimate news would tell us this.
We don't have legitimate news.
We got the Democrat Party has taken over the universities and the journalism schools, and they're turning out operatives, consultants, and interns that are called reporters and anchors.
