Time Text
The views expressed by the host on this program documented to be almost always right, 99.5% of the time.
I am Rush Limbaugh, America's anchorman and America's truth detector, also known as the Doctor of Democracy.
Now what's left of it?
Here behind the golden EIB microphone at the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies at telephone number 800 282-2882.
Email address L Rushbow at EIB net.com.
From Gallup, Gallup's underemployment measure.
Underemployment hit 20% on March the 15th.
That's up from 19.7% two weeks earlier.
Gallup daily tracking makes it possible to monitor the underemployment rate throughout the month rather than just once per month, making it the best and most timely way to measure the U.S. job situation.
The findings underscore why Americans say the most important problem facing the nation today is jobs and unemployment.
Well, I'm sorry, if you're unemployed, get used to it.
We are facing a permanent unemployment rate of 9 to 10% or greater, and the passage of the health care bill, and this when he signs it practically guarantees it.
Folks, we don't have any of the money that we are going to spend on this.
We do not have it.
More money is going to be taxed on individuals and businesses in order to give the illusion of paying for this health care bill.
More and more money is being taken out of the private sector, which is where unemployment exists, and with no growth in the private sector, there aren't going to be any jobs.
Add to that that the next big push is not going to be jobs.
The next big push is going to be amnesty.
And it's coming sooner than you think.
Obama can't wait for this.
He wants these, he's going to need these people as voters in 2012.
He understands, and all liberals understand, that it is the middle class that holds the key to their power.
The middle class cannot be given real tax cuts to help them move up the ladder.
The left cannot deal with.
Folks, you're going to have to believe me and trust me on this.
They want to control.
They do not wish to govern.
They want to control.
The reason that there will never be significant middle class tax cuts.
The reason why, in fact, everybody's taxes are going up because of this health care bill, is that the left from Obama on down will not allow the middle class to move up the ladder.
The middle class must be the class receiving the government handouts.
The objective, the change that Obama was talking about, was ensuring that as many Americans as possible end up in the welfare state.
The greatest majority of Americans happen to be in the middle class.
This health care bill is the first giant step toward making the entire United States middle class dependent on the federal government for its needs, not its luxuries, not its wants.
The middle class must receive a government handout.
The middle class will not receive tax cuts.
The middle class the purpose, in fact, of the income tax, is to prevent people from earning and acquiring major wealth.
Obama has just seen to it that there are tax cuts, not in the vernacular.
Obama once made a phony promise, 95% of Americans getting a tax cut.
Not true.
It is not going to happen.
There's no way it can.
If you read the legislation, everybody is paying higher everything in this, from insurance premiums to medical costs to taxes.
If you think that the underemployment problem is going to go away, understand that there is now a new Medicare tax of 3.8 or 3.9% on investment income.
The when we when the capital capital gains are going to go up to 20%, I think, maybe higher, the in total taxation on investment income, which is called unearned income, will now approach 25%.
Well, the people who invest are also the people who hire.
They're not going to have the money to hire and to grow their business.
The only sector in this country that's growing right now is government.
Government institutions, government bureaucracies, and government employment.
So the underemployment problem, that laser like focus on jobs, mm-mm, maybe for illegals, but not even them.
Get them in here, give them amnesty, and then put them on the public doll as well.
This is about literally tearing down the golden goose that has led to the greatest opportunity for prosperity for the most human beings in human history.
It's about tearing it down and destroying it.
That's some people don't believe it, don't want to believe it.
How to get your arms around that?
Why would anybody, especially a president, want to do that?
You have to understand, and you, folks, um, there's not a better time.
There's not a more teachable moment than what just happened to get you to stand up and squarely face exactly who we're dealing with.
You think people who loved America, who loved its traditions, who loved its people and wanted its people to prosper and do better, would ever pass legislation like this party has done, the Democrat Party.
No way.
Yeah, I mean, it's a crying shame.
It is a literal crying shame, but at the same time, it's a it's a it's it's the most visible, teachable moment we've had.
But you're gonna have to understand exactly who they are, and understand that this is being done on purpose.
These are not well-intentioned mistakes.
These are not people who don't get it.
They most assuredly get it.
It is many of us, myself excluded, because I'm the expert.
It is many of us who don't get it, who don't get what we face.
And it's time to face it.
It's time to learn it, time to uh not love it, time to live it, and understand that anybody running for political office with a D after their name cannot win, must not win.
It is the only way that we can save the country.
Before we start talking repeal, before we start talking this, we have to defeat them.
I don't care if they call themselves blue dogs, lap dogs, moderate democrats.
There's no such thing anymore.
Even if there are moderate Democrats, we see how they get steamrolled.
I was watching this dog and pony show on Saturday.
I invested the whole weekend doing something I never do, and that's watch political sausage being made.
And I was pretty buoyant on Saturday.
I said, they don't have the votes here.
I'm saying to myself, why does Obama, because remember now, let's go to the chain of events.
The chain of events.
On Saturday, we get the announcement from Stenny Hoyer, right before Obama's schedule to speak in that auditorium now in the visitor center.
Oh, yeah, we've got the votes now.
We have uh we easily have the votes.
Stupak still had not made any deal.
We've got the votes.
What's gonna happen is we're gonna drop Demon Pass because there was a revolt in there on that.
There was a revolt in the rules committee on Demon Pass.
So they dropped Demon Pass, and then they said, okay, we're gonna go straight for the Senate bill, and then we're gonna do our reconciliations bill.
And I'm now wait a second here.
Just gonna do the Senate bill as is, they have no choice.
They couldn't amend it.
In fact, they've they violated the process here anyway.
To do the Senate bill without a conference committee is already a violation of the legislative process.
But here's Hoyer and Kleiburn announcing that they got the votes, and they're all going in and here and they all the leaderships up there sitting in front of two American flags.
And each one of the leaderships starts praising each other.
Here's the greatest speaker in the history of the House, Nancy Pelosi.
And here we have the greatest majority leader in the history of the House, Harry Reid.
And then we have this, and then we have that.
And then they bring Obama in, and we get a we get a sales pitch that has me asking, why in the hell are we getting this sales pitch if they've got the votes?
They don't have the votes, I'm saying to myself.
They did not have the votes.
They didn't have the votes Saturday night when they said they did.
That was all a momentum builder.
It was all a joke.
It was all PR.
It was all designed to dispirit the Republicans and dispirit Americans into thinking that it was over.
Then we go into Sunday, and they didn't have the votes.
I'm watching this and I'm paying attention.
And I got people emailing me all depressed.
Oh, Rush, it's over.
What are we going to do?
They don't have the votes yet.
They did not have the votes as of three or four o'clock on Sunday afternoon.
They didn't, they were running another scam.
And Pelosi had to horse trade and give away all kinds of stupak got money for three airports in Michigan.
He got a phony promise on abortion.
He sold out on abortion because this bill pays for abortions.
It mandates that abortions be taxpayer funded.
I'll read you the segments.
I'll read it to you in just a minute after we take a break here.
I'll tell if there's a lot of confusion on this.
I'll make it very easy for you.
I'll explain to you how the Senate bill that Obama's going to sign ends up with taxpayers paying for abortion.
Bart Stupak said we just played the clip last November, last October.
Oh, yeah, if I if I try to get my language and I fail, yeah, I'll still vote for health care.
It's too important.
So Stupak misleads everybody and his group of so-called pro-lifers, misleads everybody, gives the nation hope when there was none, and he knew it all along.
And Stupak turned, and I you know what I think I actually think that they had the 216 before they went to Stupec.
And I think that's one of the reasons that Stuck caved.
Because he caved for nothing.
He caved for an empty piece of paper.
I think Stupak didn't want to relinquish the stage.
Whatever.
Whether I'm right or wrong about that is uh is irrelevant.
The bottom line is the assault on the American middle class has begun by a man who claimed that his objective was to liberate them.
By a man who claimed hope and change to improve their lives.
Just the exact opposite.
Unless you view being dependent on government for everything as palatable.
If you like that, if you're willing to trade away your freedom for some security, health care security or whatever, uh, then this administration is for you.
They have to be made dependent, the middle class if their votes are to be paid for.
They cannot be given real tax cuts to help them move up the ladder.
Doing that makes them less dependent on government and people like Barack Obama.
Quick timeout.
Phone calls, and I got 39 other sound bites.
37.
But I haven't gotten to yet.
We'll get to all of that after this.
Sit tight, we'll be right back.
Louisiana Congressman Joseph Gauz sent Barack Obama a letter explaining why he was voting against the Senate health care bill, why he was not going to turn around and vote for it this time in the House.
He said to me, a moral ethicist and a former Jesuit seminarian, and to literally tens of thousands of the people in Louisiana I represent the Senate abortion language is definitely insufficient.
Joseph Gow pointed out that under the Senate bill, federal vouchers could be used to purchase insurance plans that cover abortion on demand.
That federal courts could force community health clinics receiving billions of dollars in new federal funding to perform taxpayer financed abortions.
Don't forget the left is pretty well populated in the American judiciary.
Joseph Gao also said that governmental agencies could be free to discriminate against doctors and nurses who object to abortion as a matter of conscience.
So while there was all this confusion over the weekend about abortion language that's supposedly been taken out, look at our guys on the floor in the House on Sunday night were exactly right.
We have the most pro-abortion president in the history of the country.
This is a guy who believes in infanticide.
This is a guy who doesn't believe that babies who survive abortions should be saved.
And he's going to send a letter and executive order to Bart Stupak, and Bart Stupec's gonna sit there and think that a president who cannot tell the truth, who is the most pro-abortion president in history, is going to actually stand in the way of abortions taking place.
Bruce in Westville, Ohio, as we go back to the phones.
Great to have you on the Rush Limbaugh program.
Hi.
Thanks, Rush.
It's an honor to speak to you.
Thank you, sir.
I've got one quick question.
How do we repeal Obamacare when Obama's got veto power for the next couple of years?
Well, that's a uh an excellent, excellent point.
We're not, I don't think we're going to have enough in the Senate to uh to override, but you never know how these things go.
Uh you never know what kind of momentum is going to propel these things.
I it's impossible to predict the future.
One thing, though, that should not be overlooked about this, is that this victory in November that must happen is the only way to stop further items in the Obama agenda.
I that this the repeal is a is a you know, it's a great objective, but it is going to be something difficult to do because he will be able to uh to to veto, and it's gonna be tough to override.
But my instincts on this are right.
See, uh Ed Folder at the Heritage Foundation has a he sent out a statement uh to all the members of the Heritage Foundation today.
And he said something in it that I really believe the American people will not be thwarted forever.
The American people will not be thwarted forever.
Now you remember that Bill Clinton vetoed welfare reform and vetoed it and vetoed it.
The Republicans kept raising it again and again, and ultimately he signed it because the American people will not be thwarted.
And he needed it for his reelection.
Now, Clinton is a Piker compared to Obama in what he's willing to do.
They're both of the same mindset.
But Clinton is much more a conventional politician than Obama is.
But, nevertheless, ladies and gentlemen, Ed Fuller at Heritage is exactly right.
The American people will not be thwarted forever.
He said there's no such thing as a permanent victory or defeat in Washington.
There are just permanent battles.
And that's crucial to understand here.
Obamacare.
You heard it all weekend, oh, presidents from both parties, a hundred years have been trying to do it.
Look at what Obama finally came along and did it.
Yeah, okay.
Let's look at the bright side of this.
It was a 100-year-old battle.
It took them a century to get this.
It's not going to take us anywhere near a century to get rid of it.
This is why...
One of the reasons I keep telling you about the Heritage Foundation, they aren't going to quit.
They aren't going to go away.
They're not going to say, oh, geez, well, I guess that's it for us.
No way.
They're going to keep the debate alive.
We're all going to keep the debate alive.
They're going to put all of their intellectual firepower to work in calling for a repeal.
And if anybody's going to come up with an answer to, well, what do we do when Obama overrides?
It'll be people like me and the Heritage Foundation and others.
We'll put the information, the intellectual firepower, into lawmakers' hands to fight it.
In fact, last night, I don't know if you heard, last night a member of the House from Kentucky actually referenced a Heritage Foundation report in an observation about Obamacare's effect on every state budget in the land and the hardships about to be placed on them.
And remember two things.
Arizona just canceled its S chip program.
The children's health insurance, they just cancel it, they don't have the money in the state of Washington.
Walgreen starting April 16th, no new Medicare patients.
Now, how's that gonna jibe with what Obama's promising everybody?
If Walgreen is forced to start fulfilling prescriptions for new Medicaid patients under the under an act of law or some sort of intimidation from Obama, who's gonna pay for it?
They can't make money fulfilling Medicare prescriptions, not for any new patients.
What makes anybody think any of this is going to work?
This isn't going to work, and the penalties start immediately.
The goodies, the benefits, as they're described, don't start for four years.
The pain will be evident soon.
That's why we're gonna have our momentum.
AskHeritage.org.
If you want to become a member, uh casually mention that because Ed Fulner is right.
There is no such thing as a permanent victory or defeat in Washington.
You know, I just I just checked the email, ladies and gentlemen.
Honest, honest to Pete, there's some people who want to, and these are subscribers.
This is not from the Looney Tunes that are in the uh in the in the most well, not all of public email address, the El Rushboat EIB net.com.
Not all the people there are kooks, but I it's funny.
I can't tell you how many invitations I'm getting to go to Costa Rica today from who thought that I said I would move to Costa Rica if we got a health care pass.
No, no, no.
Once all this gets implemented, I'm going there for my health care.
They're asking me to go ahead and move.
Uh but some of the subscriber, Rush, do you really think Obama has that for the middle class?
Why you I know people are gonna have a tough time getting their arms around this, and this is why you have to understand who these people are, and it's right in front of you.
What happened over the weekend?
This health care bill, the way they were going to get it passed.
They know they are governing against the will of the American people.
I got a note from a friend of mine in New York.
I don't watch CNN.
I have it, I have it at CNN, I don't know how long, years.
This friend's, hey Rush, I've been I've been watching CNN overnight and until just now, and I'm shocked at how quickly they've abandoned the euphoria of Obamacare and are focusing on the hurdles still in the way of the reform.
Now, I don't know what he's talking about, because I don't watch CNN.
So I don't know what hurdles they're talking about.
My guess, my guess is they're talking about the hurdles in the Senate of getting the House's fixes to the Senate bill passed, the reconciliation bill.
I haven't seen any mainstream media talking about how tough it's going to be to implement health reform.
I don't know if that's what he meant or not.
But one thing they know, they know they're governing against the will of the people.
They know they do not have the people behind them.
They're acting like they're doing this for the American people.
They're acting like all of this is because we want it, but it's not the case.
They know they're governing against the will of the people.
And that has to have them on edge because there still are elections in this country.
There still are.
Now, this business about Obama taxing the middle class to make sure they become dependent.
He has come to divide and he has come to conquer.
And I'm telling you, folks, it is time to just accept the truth.
His desire is to have as many people on federal dependency as possible.
Um, let me explain it this way, and I'm gonna use a term that many of you are uncomfortable with, but I'm gonna explain Marxism in this regard.
Under Marxism, anybody who owns anything of value, anybody who has any savings, anybody who has any stock is the bourgeoisie, the middle class.
The Marxists consider the bourgeoisie, the middle class to own capital, hence capitalists.
It's not just industrialists, and it's not just the rich.
The power is in the middle class, control the middle class, and you control a country.
That's where the majority of people are.
You make them dependent on you, one way or the other.
You stand in the way of their achieving individual prosperity, and you own them.
And you own their votes.
So look at what some of the new taxes are in the health care bill.
Taxes on savings.
Taxes on investment profits.
Taxes on profits and stocks.
All the fund Medicare, which is going broke.
They had the American people believing that we were in a recession in 2005.
They had people believing that we were in a recession in 2006.
Starting post Katrina in the fall of 2005, they talked us into a recession.
They got the media and their buddies there to continue talking and reporting about the fading U.S. economy.
This is once they gave up on losing the war in Iraq.
Once they gave up on the notion that they could get Bush to surrender and give up and quit and leave, they were happy to talk down the economy.
They knew it would hurt Wall Street.
The middle class, the capitalists, most of all.
Nothing they do is coincidental.
It's all strategic.
They knew creating an economic crisis, a recession, would give them a great opportunity to take over Congress and then use the crisis to restructure our economy.
And they're doing it right before our eyes.
And they knew they could do it because they did it in the 30s.
Coming out of the Great Depression, their fixes did what?
Prolonged it.
But entrenched the Democrats in power for 40 years.
They're doing it again.
They knew it would work.
They're simply repeating a previous stratagem.
And when the country's on its back, as it is now, they can ram through every piece of social welfare program they want because people are going to need it.
Because the private sector is not providing jobs for people to provide for themselves.
So here come the guys on the white horses.
We'll fix it.
Insurance companies ripping you off fine.
Well, well, your premiums are going down by 2500.
Oh, you can't, your doctor won't cover your we'll take care of that too.
We'll make it easy.
Oh, you can't find a job.
Well, how about how about three years of unemployment benefit check?
We'll handle that for you.
So after talking the economy down, after convincing enough people we were in a recession and creating a self-fulfilling prophecy, now, with underemployment today announced by Gallup at 20%, unemployment hovering at 10% for the foreseeable future, and even Obama admits it.
Here comes health care reform.
Next comes amnesty.
And I can just, I said in the first hour I could just hear Obama as he sells amnesty.
There's some people, some people who they because they don't like the color of your skin that you shouldn't be an American.
I can hear it at town hall after town hall after town hall.
I can hear it speech after speech.
He has come to divide.
He's come to conquer.
You think you're mad?
Over what happened here with health care.
Imagine at 20% underemployment, 10% unemployment, amnesty for 15 to 20 million more people.
Where are they gonna go to get a job?
And what if they'll go do jobs as they're legally known, a legal legal citizens, for the four bucks an hour you won't work for?
What if they get jobs that you won't take?
People are allowed to reduce their labor load.
Okay, no problem.
We'll up your unemployment benefits to four years.
And we'll lower your insurance premium by four thousand dollars.
And who also pay your car insurance.
Whatever it takes, they will say.
Let's go back to the Kennedy assassination.
On the heels of the Kennedy assassination, the Democrats had a two to one advantage in the House and a big advantage in the Senate.
The nation was still in shock over the death of JFK, and in 1965, we got what?
Medicare.
And LBJ has this giant signing ceremony in Independence, Missouri and Harry Truman.
And we get Medicare.
1965.
It has exploded what its predicted costs were by factors of thousands of a percent.
And it's it's not even in the ballpark of what they said it was going to cost.
And not everybody gets covered.
And Medicaid was part of this too.
They just didn't say so at the time.
They tacked that on later.
That's why they have to be defeated.
They must be hounded out of office.
This is what they do when they have the ability.
So don't doubt me when I tell you they don't want anybody getting tax cuts, especially the middle class.
You cannot be allowed to improve your prosperity.
You must be further made dependent.
And it fits right in with Obama's dislike of the way the country was founded in the first place.
And his aim to change it.
And that's what he meant by change.
He didn't mean I'm gonna do better than Bush.
He meant, I'm gonna change a sucker.
I'm gonna change this country in ways that you never imagined, in ways that it ought to be.
But I don't dare tell you what real change I'm talking about, he says, because I wouldn't get elected.
Oh, from the Wall Street Journal.
U.S. Pesar plans to review the executive compensation at Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase, and 417 other firms that took government bailout money to determine if any bonuses, if any salary or other compensation paid during a short window should be returned, according to government officials.
Kenneth Feinberg, the special master for compensation, will send a letter tomorrow to 419 firms that receive TARP money seeking data on compensation paid to the top 25 executives at each of these 419 firms.
The pay review will cover a short period, but will capture the 2008 end-of-year bonus season at most large firms.
So you can just add this guy on to the 16,000 IRS agents that will be hired if the Senate passes the House Reconciliation Bill to make sure that you are buying your health insurance, as you will be mandated to under law, or if you choose not to, which will be fine if you are paying your fine.
And your fine is a couple grand or two percent of your income, whichever is greater.
Still going to be cheaper than buying an insurance policy.
The IRS, yep, you're gonna have a new form on your 1040 EZ or your 1040, where you prove that you've bought your health insurance, and your tax return now will be shared with the Department of Health and Human Services.
Because if you go through the Senate Health Care Bill to the House Health Care, it doesn't matter which you'll see, as determined by the Secretary, so many times that I lost count.
As determined that's at this moment, the Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sabilis, as the Secretary may direct.
So if the Secretary wants to find out any details of your tax return, she's gonna be allowed to see them.
It's In the legislation.
16,000 new IRS agents to make sure that there is compliance with this liberating and wonderful new health care reform.
Now, who in the world needs 16,500 new cops for something that is so wonderful and such a positive change.
On the cutting edge of societal evolution, El Rush Ball.
Three hours of broadcast excellence utilizing talent on loan from God.
Earlier in this hour, over at Mess NBC, they played uh video from this program today, video of me suggesting that we need to hound these Democrats out of office.
We need to hassle them and just get rid of them.
And then they brought Angria Mitchell, and be seen here from Washington.
And she brought on Howard Feynman to discuss why I'm so angry.
And by the way, I I thought I was pretty measured.
I didn't really start shouting and screaming.
Andrea Mitchell's question there's a new level of invective after playing the clip of me.
Ah, now there's a new level of invective we haven't heard before.
We've heard some similar things from Rush Limbaugh, but I'm fascinated by asking what's the source of the anger.
Barack Obama is in many respects a big government, northern-based, big city Democrat.
The kind that hasn't held the presidency in a long time.
Don't forget.
They've been small town Southerners, and there's a big reaction brewing out there.
What the hell does that mean?
Big city northern big government-based Democrat.
I didn't like Clint's Southerner, and I didn't like that either, Howard.
But this is Clinton, as I said, was a pipe.
They don't understand.
He doesn't understand why we're angry.
We're losing the country as it was founded.
Hey, Howard, you know what you need to go out and rent a movie.
If you want to understand us today, The Outlaw Josie Wales.
Just go rent the movie starring Clint Eastwood.
In the pre-Dirty Harry days.
Although not that different from Dirty Harry, but still go out and rent the movie, The Outlaw Josie Wales.
And you'll get some kind of an idea.
If the fact that they don't understand the anger, uh, I'm not even sure that they can.
No matter what we do to explain it to them.
All right, back to the phones.
Ed in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Uh, you're on the EIB network.
Hello.
Uh, noodles rush and uh uh happy days from all the Wichita Falls Tea Party Patriots.
How are you doing?
Very well, sir.
Thanks very much.
Good.
I called because I want you and your listeners uh or our listeners to hear some of the truth what really went on on the Capitol this past weekend because the media has been overplaying this alleged spitting and uh name-calling incident, and they never addressed all kinds of other issues that were going on.
Uh, I talked to a lot of Capitol Police while I was there, and they were happy uh that we were there.
We got complimented because they say they'll like it when we come because we are we are the uh most polite groups they have to contend with.
And you clean up your messes.
Yes, we did.
And and uh that that's another point that that's uh we we didn't leave any trash at all.
And our groups that were there, I would guess to make we had anywhere from thirty to forty thousand there, and we were singing the national anthem, singing patriotic songs, praying, uh a lot of patriotic stuff, there was no nasty stuff that we heard, and we couldn't even find anybody, and we looked all around, talked to everybody, anybody that saw or witnessed what they were talking about.
I'm not saying it didn't occur.
I'm just saying it might have occurred, but I don't think it was you guys.
And if it I I actually doubt that it occurred because if it had, the media would be showing the videotape of it.
There is video.
One of the things these people are gonna have to learn, people now have a video recorder in their cell phone every time they go someplace.
And people are now defensively videotaping things they attend because charges like this are no what he's talking about is that John Lewis and uh Jesse Jackson some others uh say that uh that the the N-word was shouted at them by Tea Party people, and Barney Frank claims that somebody called him the F-word.
And yet, and the media's reporting it as though it happened, and these guys are saying it happened, but nobody has any evidence.
And the videotape in question, the 47-second videotape in question, where Pelosi and John uh John Lewis and these people are walking past a tea party, if you it's not there, you don't hear it.
And I I'll tell you where we are, something like this.
When I heard this first reported, you probably had some move on.org people infiltrate the thing, and if anybody was shouting it was Democrats, it was liberals to try to set this thing up, maybe working in an alliance with the media.
But I don't know that anybody did actually say it because they'd be showing us that video.
And these people were videoed from top to bottom, left and right, upside down all weekend long.
Gotta go.
Back after this.
Interesting piece just posted at the American Thinker by uh Michael Philazov, or Philosoph, it might be, is Obamacare headed for a Supreme Court showdown, focuses on James Madison and Federalist number 10.
Interesting.
I'll share with you the details when we come out of the break.
Have you also noticed, ladies and gentlemen, neither the media nor the Democrats are out taking a victory lap today?
They're in it, they're sort of in damage control mode.
