#669 MDC ELECTION FALLOUT BONANZA: The Afterspace (preview)

It's so Joe-ver. Sorry for the late release folks. Busy week. We're the aftermath of Democrats' disastrous presidential campaign and faced with another Trump presidency We review the Democratic party's strategy and figure out which scapegoat will allow us to learn nothing from this historic event. Were Democrats too nice to latinos? Did they not sufficiently support Israel? Did they not gestate enough republican never-Trumper egg sacs? What is going on?? Also: The voting public's desire for "change" from a two-party system that only moves rightward, hemorrhaging working class voters but still winning the union vote, and a Democrat who helped Biden screw up the Afghanistan withdrawal figures out the real problem: trans kids on sports teams. Time Text
Yeah, Michael Stern, who I think, man, he's like a contributor in fucking Vanity Fair.
He's some writer.
Lots of followers.
CNN has a story titled, Where the Harris Campaign Went Wrong.
Nope.
I won't read it.
Harris ran a great campaign.
The story should be titled, Where the American People Went Wrong.
Tony, that's what the story should be titled.
Shame on you!
Yeah, I love it too.
It's like, oh, there's a story that's going to go ahead and lay out and illustrate where she went wrong.
And I'm upset she lost.
That's interesting.
Nope, I don't want to see it.
Get out of my face.
Don't show me that.
Nuh-uh.
He said, this is no one's fault, but the American people's fault.
Yeah, right here.
Via CNN. CNN's exit polls.
This year, 5% of them voted for Kamala Harris in 2024, down from 6% in 2020 who voted for Joe Biden.
Yep.
Incredible.
And if we're going to be mad at somebody, I think we should be mad at these moderate Republicans for not even, can't even be bothered to exist anymore.
Can't even be bothered to spontaneously erupt into consciousness in life and go vote for Kamala Harris.
She can win if you goddamn vote, you know?
Yeah, we just needed them to show up for us.
And this is the thing, too.
It's like you said, she kowtowed so far to the right.
She tried to cater so far to the right that I think that really is where the misogyny does come into play, where it's like, okay, well, now you're forgiving me two of the same thing, but one is a woman.
They are going to go ahead and choose the man.
Even the most feminist Republican...
You know, who doesn't...
Yeah, I don't want the fat.
That's not why.
That's not why I'm doing that.
But at this point, okay, well, yeah, now I do want the one that's taller.
Oh, yeah.
I don't want the fascism with the little pink tag right here on it.
Can we get it without the...
Can we get, like, a black tag or something, you know?
Yeah, amazing.
Amazing that they would shed their Arab voter base for a theoretical 5% of Republicans or something like that.
What were they trying to do?
Double that number to get 10%?
Is that really...
Is that really worth it?
And to further prove this, in like five different swing states, there are split tickets.
Meaning the Democratic politician won at the local level while Trump won that area, that county, that...
Whatever.
Like, this was an indictment on Kamala Harris, specifically, and the administration.
I mean, you know, elections for the incumbent are always an indictment on the administration, and she's basically the incumbent, you know?
I do wonder if they would have actually taken Biden out, if they would have actually removed him from the presidency, and With whatever the 27th Amendment or whatever it is, and then installed Kamala Harris, you know, not installed her, but that would have been her, like, constitutional role to fill, become the president, if that would have helped her, you know?
Because I think...
I think a lot of people did feel that she...
There was, you know, there was no primary.
There was no way to...
I don't know, select for the most popular candidate, although I don't know that a primary would necessarily select for a nationally popular candidate anyway.
Anyway, I'm getting too far in the weeds and shit that I don't know what I'm talking about.
I think you're right, though.
I think a lot of people would have decided, like, well, she can do the job, she's doing it now, and that would have been enough.
I think that would have made a huge impact.
And I think it would have also lent some credence to the idea that Democrats actually give a shit about what the government does and what their party stands for, yada, yada, yada, and not just defeating Trump or earning billions in donations or whatever.
I think that...
Yeah, people were probably just really annoyed with this administration, too.
And the fact that Democrats didn't do anything to fix, you know, the guy dying right now as president might have contributed to that.
And it's like any other job.
Like, honestly, I'm totally fine with the client quite quitting it for my coworker, right?
But if you're going to, like, stop showing up, maybe get someone to cover your shift.
If you can get someone to cover your shift, that'd make things easier for me, and I appreciate that.
Yeah.
Oh there it is.
He's Uber's chief legal officer.
Is the brother of mom.
Yeah.
So I'm trying to think, since it definitely wasn't Kamala Harris's fault, right?
We kind of all agree on that.
It wasn't like the Democrats' fault or Kamala Harris's fault.
Who do we blame, right?
Now, I have my theories.
Like, you know, we've heard some of the explanations here.
You can blame, like, racism or misogyny or even misogynoir.
Yeah.
All you want.
But there's one very clear, very satisfying, very obvious explanation, and it's Russian interference.
Absolutely.
Duh.
Yeah.
I mean, this is, it just feels like it, you know?
Yeah.
It just feels right.
It supersedes.
And the thing is, is that racism, that misogyny, who do you think did that?
Who do you think caused that?
Absolutely.
Oh, I don't know.
It's just national.
No, Putin.
Putin did that.
Putin did that.
When Putin came out and said, the enemy of Palestine is the USA, people heard that and they're like, wait, who's the vice president right now?
I'm going to stand with Palestine.
That's why she lost.
And that's Russian interference.
I'm imagining a guy who gets mad at everyone blaming racism because they're distracting from Russian collusion, which Trump is guilty of, obviously.
Obviously.
Oh, it doesn't...
Now racism matters, but it doesn't matter when a whole country like Russia is racist against Ukrainians.
Huh?
Huh?
Have you thought about that?
Um...
Other explanations for why my candidate lost the popular vote.
I kind of want to blame Shapiro Bros for this one.
Yeah, they play a role.
I think the Shapiro Bros, I mean, if their past actions are any indicators...
Mm-hmm.
