#661 I want to replace everyone there with a robot immediately (preview)

TODAY: Alex is joined by Jacob Morrison of the excellent Valley Labor Report to discuss the recent Longshoremen strike, their tentative agreement after winning higher wages, and the continued fight for the future of their jobs. Was the strike a nefarious pro-Trump worker action meant to make the Democrats look bad? Is the based right wing going to last a nanosecond before demanding union workers be fired? Will these overpaid, lazy workers ever stop being unfairly exploited by their wealthy union leaders? So in a similar line to like the previous sort of round of comments I have, I have...
We're against this union boss, this mob leader, but from the left, from the Democrats.
You know, I'd say left in quotations here.
But they all decided, the Democrats, in order to...
Let's say, here's kind of the thesis statement of the Democrats during this strike.
Liam Martin, who I think is probably a newscaster of some kind, that's what his avatar looks like.
He's Liam from Boston, so maybe he's a Boston affiliate or something.
He says, feels important to note that the president of the union leading the port strike has a long-standing relationship with Trump.
And is causing major damage to a roaring economy five weeks before the election.
I didn't know these were Trump workers.
I was all ready to support them and their right to collectively bargain and extract concessions from billionaire bosses.
I didn't know they were Trump guys though.
Yeah, now I know they have the wrong opinions, apparently, and so I want them all to be poor.
Yeah, now I know that their contract ending now was actually a dastardly strike against the Harris-Walls campaign.
Yeah, because Brent Erickson replies, and this is a blue check with some professional headshot photography, so he's probably a fucking pundit or analyst or advisor or whatever.
He says, well, the timing of the strike is suspect.
No, it's not. Again, you can't strike until the contract is over, geniuses.
Sorry it might interfere with the non-campaign.
Sorry it might interfere with your candidate meeting with some more war criminals to endorse her, bro.
I found him on Twitter and listened to his bio.
Consultant, swamp dweller, and former EVP at Biotechnology Innovation Organization.
Oh, no. Wash Rep at American Petroleum Institute and U.S. Senate leadership staff.
So what is going on here?
We got the woke biomed oil lobbyist talking about how, wow, these striking workers, they're anti-Harris.
Yeah, and let's remember these are six-year contracts, which is kind of crazy.
I don't think we should be doing six-year contracts.
So that means that this contract was negotiated under Trump in 2018.
So they're really playing the long game back in 2018 to make sure that Harris-Waltz doesn't get in the White House.
Landon Hall quote tweeted this and says, seems uncomplicated.
The head of the union is a Trump guy.
The head of the Teamsters is a Trump guy.
They're hurting their own members because of their political preferences.
So now we have the Democrats accusing leaders of hurting their own members by doing things like collectively organizing for a worker action.
Now, I would say if you're talking about going on...
Speaking at the Republican National Convention, I would say yes, that hurts workers.
If you're talking about donating to the Republican senatorial campaign or whatever, yes, that hurts workers.
Merely organizing and merely demanding something from political leaders, whether they're on the right or the left, is not hurting workers.
It's just inconvenient for you Because you want this to be a smooth anointment of your candidate or whatever.
Sorry, she's going to have to actually do stuff.
She's going to actually have to do stuff, and you should be pushing both her and Biden towards giving the workers what they're owed, frankly.
Yeah. And, you know, it's worth mentioning they endorsed Biden in 2020.
They have yet to endorse in 2024.
So, you know, and also they say, you know, longstanding relationship.
There has been, as far as I can tell, you know, look, I don't care that much about it, but I was on Twitter too much on vacation because this was really pissing me off.
But the only evidence that they have put forward, these weird Democrats who hate longshoremen, that they have a longstanding relationship is this one picture.
Like, there's no... There's zero other pictures of the two together.
And the fact that they are from the same region of the country, not even the same state, right?
The union guy, he's the ILA president and the chief negotiator.
He's from New Jersey.
He's from New Jersey, right?
And Donald Trump is from New York.
So they're just kind of in the same area.
And so therefore, that's all the evidence that has been put forward about the longstanding relationship that these two supposedly have.
And, you know, Exactly like you said, having a meeting with a politician is not, you know, bad, necessarily.
No, and it's funny because I'm looking at this photo, the caption says, long-standing relationship.
This photo is definitely from, like, this year.
Like, Trump looks...
2023. 2023. Okay, Trump looks old as fuck.
This guy looks, you know, pretty old.
And he also looks, he's doing kind of the same look that Sean O'Brien had on his face, which is just like, God, I hate that I'm in this photograph.
You know, the meeting is one thing, but goddammit, it sucks.
I gotta be photographed next to this guy.
At least he's not doing the thumbs up, though.
Yeah. So here's another Democrat attack on the union.
Ava says, the bling on his arms and around his neck, the Cartier glasses, he's wearing prescription glasses that I guess are Cartier, and she knows this, parentheses, I know this because I have those specs, too.
And she continues.
Won't somebody take pity on this poor impoverished soul?
Crying emoji. Maggot GOP. So Maggot, Magga with a T is what they call Maggot people.
Maggot GOP is behind this foolishness.
Nothing will convince me otherwise.
Wow, that is crazy.
