This week for Patrons we cover “Miguelifornia,” a versatile (white??) right wing musician creating everything from catchy anti-feces viral music videos to bewildering, melancholy, and patriotic tough-guy hardcore. Also, facebook reacts to SpaceX's surprise (lol) partnership with the US Military to deliver a 70-ton payload of awesomesauce anywhere on Earth in 60 minutes. Damn, just like Iron Man!
So much like, I don't know, I feel like there's a lot of bands you could point to, a lot of artists you could point to where They had to sort of come out with something like catchy and radio friendly in order to like, I don't know, fund their more artistic endeavors, fund their more like real endeavors.
You know, it's like, I don't know, it's like Marzvolta putting The Widow on Francis the Mute, you know, just so they could write.
Gotta have a radio hit, yeah.
Just so they could write like 55 other minutes of Latin jazz fusion, you know?
Yeah.
I feel like Takin' Back Cali is McGallifornia's The Widow.
And I feel like he did that so that he could reply to the popularity of Takin' Back Cali with a true work of art.
That might not, you know, might not be appreciated by everybody.
And this tweet, I want to caption, I want to read the caption for this tweet, which says, THIS IS A CIVIL WAR BASED ON COMMUNICATION.
Yes.
And I'm going to play the song.
This is a civil war.
This is a civil war based upon communication.
So fucking good.
So fucking good.
Uh, so I have to point out first of all, uh, Civil War of communication.
Yeah.
This is like Minions Law, but like, it's, it's like a meta, it's, it's like a meta expression of Minions Law, which is civil war through communication.
This is like shots fired directly at us.
The first lines of this song are, Stop!
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody, look what's going round!
It's a revolution of the mind!
Eliminating what they deem unkind!
Who was that talking in the beginning?
Uh, it's a... I don't recognize who he is.
He's probably some racist guy.
Yeah, clearly.
When those vocals hit, because the thing is, that fucking riff, that fucking riff, when it opens, like, I'm ready to open that goddamn pit.
It's like a throwdown riff.
Yeah, we're stage diving, yeah.
This is like, this is a great song.
And then those vocals come in, and it's like, kind of extra pissed.
Like, I kind of love it.
Um, it reminds me of, like, that era of Incubus where they're trying to sound like Primus.
Oh, that like the Fungus Among Us type stuff?
Yeah, and they like... Science?
And they, well, I believe the correct name of that album is S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
But it's like they're trying to sound like Primus and it's like they just think like their idea of Primus is just that Primus like sounds bad.
Yeah.
Like Primus just sounds fucked up, so we're gonna mimic that by like playing random notes on a bass.
Nothing random about that, man.
And that's kind of like, and the kind of like rapping that uh, what's his name?
What's the singer of?
Brandon Boyd.
kind of rapping that Brandon Boyd does on that album like it's very much like the it's that kind of vocals What if I remember?
Yeah, it's like that.
No, what you gotta know is that album is actually written, when you plot it out, it's actually Sega Geometry.
When you plot out the notes, it's Sega Geometry.
I love that it's, stop children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going round.
Uh, because it's almost like, it's like the opposite of what we have now.
What we have now in every single like commercial for a movie, a teaser for a movie.
What do we have?
We have a slowed down, melodramatic, somber, eerie version of a pop song.
Of a classic pop song.
I mean, look no further than the Dune trailer with a slow, moody, what do you call it?
Not ethereal, but ambient sort of version of Pink Floyd's Eclipse.
I'm sick of that shit.
It's not good anymore.
We don't need that shit.
What I need is like a new metal rap rock slash beatdown hardcore version of classic 70s pop rock songs.
Absolutely.
Give me a whole album of exactly that.
I just want like a whole album of like Hatebreed does the classics.
Stopped into a church!
I passed along the way!
California Dreamin'!
It's what we need.
Dude, those gang vocals would be sick though.
I'm such a Wednesday!
It would be so sick.
And then, yeah, and then what?
What is the, like, flute solo?
What is that?
Oh, dude, that's just gonna be just heavy dive-bomb ripping.
It's pinch harmonics, dude.
Pinch harmonic flute solo.
That fucking rules.
This can only be recorded on one of those, like, jagged Ibanez guitars.
Like, it kind of sucks because I do think that, like, Throwdown's cover of Baby Got Back is better than this song.
Oh.
It's unfortunate.
Dude, I don't know.
The end of this song rules.
That, like, the end of this song rules.
That's like, I don't even think you can count that as the same song.
