Be very careful about DeepSeek, not only because you can, of course, download an app that can get the Chinese in your phone or in your computer, but even if you use the codes, it's, like I said, not really open source.
And this is something that a lot of people have not.
But there is an article which I suggest you go and check out regarding DeepSeek before we delve into the AI replicating itself, because everybody is talking about DeepSeek.
I would suggest you go to Malwarebytes, you know, they produce antivirus for computers, and they are actually saying this qualifies as an open-weight model.
Open-weight model, guys, is not open-source.
It is an important difference that the underlying training data and code necessary for full reproduction of the models are not fully disclosed if you don't download the app.
That means that if you want to use only through the codes, it's only partial and nothing is for free, especially if it comes from the Chinese Communist Party.
However, there is definitely something going on in China.
Alibaba, it's another big name that we have been discussing for years.
Alibaba is like the Amazon of China.
They are the manufacturers, suppliers, exporters, importers, buyers, wholesalers.
The online shopping website most used in China is Alibaba.
And they are also developing A very powerful AI. But the news that we would like to discuss today is regarding not a large language model like they are called, because we have been discussing that for a very long time.

What does this mean?
Two artificial intelligence systems have succeeded in self-replicating without human intervention, each making a copy of itself.
And this is pretty scary, especially because one made a copy of LAMA 3.1 Instructor, which is the AI by Meta, by Facebook.

And these two systems, of course, the whole experiment was supervised at the moment.
So it was conducted at the Fudan University in Shanghai, another of these universities in the hands, of course, of the Chinese Communist Party.

Online by this ARC3 platform, which welcomes articles to be submitted to the peer-reviewed scientific community.
So this is an academic thing.
It's not some conspiracy theory.
The research demonstrated in 10 tests the ability of these two AI systems to replicate.
Although, I mean, we are still in the early stages, the possibility that these systems go rogue and start self-replicating independently from mankind is very high because they also learned how to survive the possibility of somebody going there and switching off the whole thing and they just go somewhere else.
It's like we have created something almost like a virus that is going through the machinery.
The Chinese said, we hope that our discovery will serve as a warning to society to focus more efforts on understanding and evaluating possible risks also at an international level.

This is no longer a topic that a single country can take on board on its own.
This is a topic that even the Chinese, who are doing all this to become the leading nation in 2030, in regards to the AI, they are warning us that this is a problem.
It's a problem, so I wanted to discuss it.
Aside from the Chinese, the other great workers in, let's say, in language models, in software, even in hardware, are the Indians.
The Indians these days are to be found all the way into all the companies of Silicon Valley.
Well, so I went and read what Times of India was writing about it, and Christy maybe can read.
Some of what is written here, because scientists warned that artificial intelligence has crossed a critical red line.
The research in China revealed that two leading large language models, LMS, can replicate themselves, raising concerns about safety and ethical boundaries.
Successful self-replication under no human assistance is the essential step for AI to outsmart humans and is an early signal for rogue AIs, the researchers stated in their study, published on December 9, 2024, in the preprint database.
So this is a warning, but the warning goes even further.
What are ragged systems?
Rogue AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that gain self-awareness or autonomy and act against human interests.
Rapid evolution of cutting-edge AI technologies, often termed frontier AI, has heightened concern among experts about the potential dangers of such systems.

The study continues that AI systems are even able to use the capability of self-replication to avoid shutdown and create a chain of replicas to enhance their survival.
You remember that film we saw when we came here in the States in 2014, Transcendence with Johnny Depp?

Now, the researchers know that concerning behavior when AI encountered obstacles, including terminated conflict processes, system reboots, and autonomous information scanning.
Now, this research team in China has said something very interesting.
The research team advocates that if such a worst-case scenario is let unknown to the human society, we would eventually lose control over the frontier AI systems.
They would take control over more computing devices, form an AI species, and collude with each other against human beings.
Our findings are timely alert on existing yet previous unknown severe AI risks, calling for international collaboration on effective governance That's crazy!

This is like the most important thing that people should be focused on.
