Climate Punishments Needed 00:10:14
Should we be arresting them for committing such a crime against the climate and the earth?
Absolutely, yes.
I think there needs to be way more punishments for, you know, damaging where we live so much.
Do you think America should follow China in the way they're handling all the pollution?
I think so, just because from what I've seen over there, I know they're doing like a whole like green wall or something now, playing a bunch of like trees so that way we can have more oxygen and stuff.
I agree, it's not something simple.
There's more lives in the ocean, in the ocean.
We're not, it's just not, they're not just animals, they also have feelings out there too.
We're back in St. Augustine, where we are really feeling the global warming this week.
We're gonna go ask people today if they think CEOs of corporations should be arrested for polluting the earth and if America should be more like China when it comes to reducing carbon emissions and pollution.
Oh my goodness, there is a lot of pollution going on on this road.
Wave abuse support pollution.
You have a nice little outlook of the mountains and trees of climate and the earth.
So yesterday, thousands of American students walked out of class out of their scheduled class time to protest climate change and plastic straws.
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
Okay.
What do you think about that?
I think it's a really good thing.
I think it's nice for the youth to be standing up and speaking about this.
Would you like your child walk out of class to protest climate change?
He doesn't like this.
Sure, yes.
He's mad because I called out his plastic straws.
Would you allow them to participate in that?
Absolutely.
Why would you?
Yeah, why?
Because if you look at the way, I mean, look at the hurricanes we're having now.
There's no reason why we're having them so strong and causing so much damage and in such a frequency.
I mean, hurricane season started so early this year and it's because of climate change.
You look everywhere else and it's bad.
Would you be okay if your child walked out of class to protest climate change?
I think I would, yeah.
I just think it's important that the whole world knows that with the climate change and stuff happening, like it's a real thing happening.
Like it just feels like it's getting hotter every day and the ice polar caps are definitely melting.
If you had a kid, would you let your child walk out of class time and protest climate change?
Absolutely.
Why would you let them?
Because it's important and it'd be cool to have a kid that showed initiative and that kind of thing.
Yeah, absolutely.
It'd be a little warrior, right?
Very brave, stunning to stand up, walk out of the class out of their scheduled class time and say climate change is ruining the country.
That'd be awesome.
Yeah, I know that'd be really cool.
If you had a kid, would you allow them to walk out of scheduled class time to protest climate change?
Entirely, yeah.
I mean, a guy with a banana shirt, you have the answers and you know what's going on.
Okay, would you allow them to participate in that walkout?
Of course I would.
It's his choice to walk out of class.
It's not mine.
I mean, I may not, whether I like it or dislike it, I'm going to let them have their own opinion.
Yeah, definitely.
Absolutely.
It's an issue that we need to talk about more.
Would you guys let your child absolutely not?
No?
Absolutely not.
Why not?
Because that's ridiculous.
That doesn't make sense.
I'm a teacher and I absolutely like, if my students stood up and walked out, I would make sure I gave a test that day and they would have a zero on it.
Do you think we should be arresting CEOs who carelessly just go and dump wherever they want?
Oh yeah, lock them up.
Oh, you sound like Trump talking about Hillary.
Oh, well, maybe not.
Maybe not like that.
Do you guys think the CEOs of companies should be arrested if they pollute?
It should be a harsher sentence, I do agree.
It would not be fair if, let's say, I were to drop a paper on a piece of paper on the floor and get fined $500 and these people are polluting, making lakes unswimmable, unlivable for even part of our animals' environment.
I do feel like they should jail sentence, a harsher fine.
I mean, they're on the top 1%.
Let's just take that.
They don't need that money.
You really don't.
Yeah, they don't need the money that they've earned.
Should we be arresting them for committing such a crime against the climate and the earth?
Absolutely, yes.
I think there needs to be way more punishments for damaging where we live so much.
Corporations don't face that many punishments for doing that kind of stuff.
It costs less to keep doing that than it does and pay those fines than it does to just fix it, you know?
I don't think that's an arrestable offense, but we should definitely find them.
Fine.
Heavy fines, because if you hit them with monetary fines, that's definitely going to change their outlook.
I agree.
It's not something simple.
There's more lives in the ocean.
They're not just animals.
They also have feelings out there, too.
Yeah.
Yeah, whales have feelings.
Stop killing them.
Yeah, exactly.
Stop littering the oceans and killing the whales because they have feelings.
Sea turtles, starfish, jellyfish, they all have feelings that matter.
Yeah, I agree.
Neither is cycle.
I just bought this cute starfish necklace because I want to save the starfishes and they have feelings and stuff.
Yeah, absolutely.
Do you guys think we should be arresting CEOs and corporations who massively dump and pollute the earth?
Like if they do it, should we arrest them?
I think they should have consequences for doing it.
Yeah, I don't think until there's like laws against our carbon footprint, is that the right word?
Yeah.
Then anything's actually going to change.
Like paper straws are an option, but unless it's a law, no one's going to choose a paper straw over plastic.
That makes sense, yeah?
So does that mean you should be arresting?
I have like so many reusable straws.
I get on my friends.
Like I got on him yesterday.
I was like, you better not touch that straw at a restaurant.
Don't touch the straw.
I almost did.
I almost did.
You should have broken up with him right there.
He obviously doesn't love you if he's going to touch plastic straws.
Do you think we should be regulating Americans' meat consumption?
In terms of regulating meat, it could help.
I'm not that, I would say, knowledgeable of what's going on in the cattle industry.
But if it will help the earth, I don't see a problem with it.
So one thing they've talked about is taxing meat, taxing hamburgers, steak, chicken, because the meat industry pollutes a lot on this earth and in America.
Would you support a tax on hamburgers to make it more expensive?
Yeah, absolutely.
Absolutely.
I'm not so sure if she's telling the truth.
Getting older, I've realized my breathing's getting affected by what's going on.
Where I live in Ocala, you can just, the air just smells a lot worse in certain areas, and something needs to be done.
Do you think America should follow China in the way they're handling all the pollution?
I think so, just because from what I've seen over there, I know they're doing like a whole green wall or something now, playing a bunch of trees so that way we can have more oxygen and stuff.
So I think if America did something similar to that aspect, I think we can definitely see some improvements.
Would you be okay with Trump building his wall out of trees?
I don't know about that one.
Well, that's a green wall.
And I mean, it would solve a lot of problems.
So illegal immigration, climate change.
You could solve a lot of stuff with that, right?
Yes, you can, yeah, but I don't know about the whole immigration stuff.
I just know, you know, I know that we need to make sure our climate's good.
Do you think America should look more towards China as a country to follow for reducing pollution?
I mean, if they are reducing pollution, yeah.
Like, I mean, I don't know the specifics myself, but yeah, I mean, if that's what they're doing and it's working, then yeah, why would we not do it?
If that's what they're doing and it's working, then yeah, why would we not do it?
Do you guys think America should look after China for a model of how to go about climate change and pollution?
If there is a way to improve, even learning from others is one way.
Now, I haven't been that into, I would say, learning which one has the higher best efficiency when it comes to carbon emissions, gas, electricity.
I know, I believe it's Sweden or Switzerland.
They actually have garbage imported.
I heard this a couple of years back because that's what they use for energy.
So, even looking at China or Sweden or Switzerland, if there is a better way to improve, I say, let's do it.
What's the harm?
If it works, it works, and if it doesn't, we try it.
Even on a standard, when China is catching up, especially on the green deals, I think we'll be all right.
In the end of it, I think that we'll still be able to catch up, even if we do fall behind.
We'll catch up to China.
Oh, we'll surpass China.
Do you think America should be modeling after China?
Yeah, absolutely.
I think we need to put more money, our government needs to put more money into climate change and helping our world.
You know?
They're very advanced in China.
They have flying cars now.
So I feel like if we actually do that, not flying cars, but if we actually like meet their standards, it would be better in that way.
All of these people should be arrested that are writing this right now.
Ding ding, climate change is happening and I'm contributing to it.
