Time Text
Do you think it's bad to be a communist?
No, I think it's um I don't think it's bad to be a communist or label as one.
Communism is uh an organization that's built up from the ground up, you know, it's more democratic than what we see here, you know.
Make libertarian socialists again.
We're here in Houston, Texas at the Democratic Debates round three.
We're gonna ask people if they're okay with communism.
What's a mean?
Are they willing to implement it in America?
Yeah, you won't be shocked with their answers.
*music*
I've been told to talk to you.
Okay.
Who are you?
Why are you so important?
Oh, I don't think myself I'm so important.
I'm just somebody who's involved in the democratic process as an activist um organizer and educator.
At this point, my name is Steven Zorosco, and I'm running for Congress here in District 18, which includes this um third ward, and it includes many of like the heights and downtown area up to the north side, and I'm just here trying to push the progressive agenda that calls for a Green New Deal so we can address climate change, it calls for social justice initiative so we could abolish ICE and also abolish the prison industrial complex.
And it just calls for some progressive changes, especially like Medicare for All.
And um here at the University of TSU, which is my alma mater, definitely want to speak about student loan forgiveness and um free on public college.
So a lot of progressive ideas that he just listed off there.
How much is that gonna cost?
How much that's gonna cost?
I know it's gonna cost a whole lot of money.
It's gonna cost a whole lot of money that we haven't been spending on the people already.
For example, what we've been spending in the military, what we've been spending on um subsidies for corporations and tax breaks and corporations, just everything that has been taken in for the one percent that we haven't been able to use for us.
So if you had to describe your ideology in one word, what would it be?
One word, it's tough with one word.
Communist?
No.
Socialist.
No.
Stalinist.
No.
Marxist.
No.
I run out of them that would describe it.
So you run out of your agenda book.
I don't know, a theft is sounds like socialism and communism to me.
Are you afraid of those words?
Do you think it's bad to be a communist?
No, I think it's um I don't think it's bad to be a communist or label as one.
I'm I don't refer to myself as a communist because I as a history major I understand why these ideologies formed and where they did and how they look like.
It looked different in China the way it looked like in Stalin.
It looked different in other places.
What my ideology is will be progressive.
Okay.
Alright, they are becoming increasingly the same in the last few years.
Well I'm campaigning for two things.
One is uh to question the uh the continued viability of using uh the the donkey as a symbol for for the party and proposing an a new one that doesn't have a history so tied to Andrew Jackson uh uh as the donkey does.
Okay.
Um and this represents the diverse coalitions of the party and their need to come together as one uh forward moving political force.
That idea is the same thing that people are talking about across the United States right now, which is a working class coalition of people.
The majority of this country, the people who are doing the work in this country, and the people who are so often left out of this system.
Yes, yes, Daniel.
What do you think about communism?
There's been a new synthesis of communism and what it what to it could be.
What's the definition of communism?
Communism is an organization that's built up from the ground up, you know, it's more democratic than what we see here, you know.
In the sense that you have people on the ground who are building up to their leadership in a communist party with a central committee and a chairman.
Yes, that's the definition of communism.
There you go.
Than what we have here.
Oh my goodness.
Okay.
Uh so communism is better than fascism.
Yeah, I think communism is better than fascism.
Or why are you laughing?
Is that a joke?
Because you did you did you say a joke?
You're like trying to equate fascism with communist.
And so I'm asking which one is worse.
Right.
And I think the fascists are a lot worse than communists could be.
You don't think they're both bad?
No, I don't think they're both bad.
Nothing bad about communism.
Well, there's some they've made some mistakes in the past, you know, but there's a new synthesis of communism now.
Uh Bob Vakeyan and the revolutionary communist party.
They've come up with a new definition.
New synthesis.
The years of people dying due to starvation, they're getting slaughtered by their government over on communist dictatorships.
My God.
Well, Stalin killed four times as many people.
Don't you think that's pretty terrible?
Yes, it's terrible.
Yeah, that's that's pretty terrible.
And uh communism is better than fascism.
But we don't think that those are communist governments any longer.
Oh, it doesn't matter what you think.
Okay, so here we go.
Democrat logic.
We can ignore all the tragedies that happened due to communism in the past.
We can change the definition so that maybe when they rewrite the history books, it won't come up that a hundred million people were killed under communism.
That won't come up anymore.
So right here, it's in the making.
We're advocating for changing the definition of what communist is.
We're gonna change what's happened in the history books.
We're gonna make sure we rewrite the history book so that it doesn't come up so we can implement a new communism, which is actually hate to break it to you, the same communism as before.
But they're trying to forget.
Shh, don't let him know it'll ruin his day.
You can see yourself for life.
Yep.
Um and so uh you feel the uh anybody should be able to cross whatever borders they want.
Do you not believe in borders?
You believe that people should uh be able to freely migrate.
So we can have this discussion.
Can you kind of put definitions in place to show me the correlation between being pro-life against against killing unborn babies and people hopping a border to get tax dollars?
Can you tell me what's going on there?
Um, I believe in the uh the right to free movement, so it's not necessarily about the anybody that crosses our borders ends up paying into our tax system.
Obviously, sales tax exists, and anybody that that works, even if they get a fake social security number, they're still paying into the system.
They pay about 19 billion, but they cause about 130 billion.
And think about what why people are why they're coming here.
I just want to know your correlation between not uh terminating pregnancies and terminating lives inside the womb and people crossing our border.
Well, so I mean, but you're saying you you support do you believe that taxation is theft?
Because if you believe that taxation is theft, then you wouldn't support the military or militarized forces.
Okay, thank you.
Yeah.
Okay, when did I say I support that?
Um I I'm familiar with your work.
When did I say it?
I'm I'm familiar with the word.
When did I say it?
I follow fascists.
When did I say it?
Yeah, before when did I say it?
You said it.
Give me the proof.
I'm not gonna pull up your Twitter, but uh Well, you're not gonna pull it up because you can never find where I've supported that.
Give me the proof of words, yes or no?
Give me the proof.
Do you support it?
Give me the proof.
Don't accuse people of saying certain things or supporting certain things and then not showing the proof.
Be a man, be a man, and show me the proof.
Be a man.
Do you support open borders?
You are not a man.
Wow.
