What's even crazier is the verse that comes right after Zachariah's prophecy says that the Lord said to me, Cast it to the potter, a goodly price that I was prized out of them.
So I took the 30 pieces of silver and I cast it to the potter in the house of the Lord.
If you recall, Judas felt remorse after betraying Jesus, so he went to return the money to the Pharisees, but they wouldn't accept it.
So he ends up throwing or casting down the money in the temple, which is the house of the Lord.
And then the Pharisees use the money to buy a potter's field.
So the money ends up going to a potter, just like Zachariah predicted over 500 years before Jesus was born.
So Matthew's account of the death of Judas sounds so much like a fulfillment of this prophecy from the book of Zechariah, because Matthew wrote the story precisely to make it sound like a fulfillment of the prophecy in the book of Zechariah.

Wisdom of Solomon, Songs of Solomon, Zachariah, I think 3, 6, 9, and 12.
Daniel, few chapters of Daniel, and then all throughout the Psalms.
This is where it comes from.

The fundamental features of the gospel story of Jesus can be read out of the Jewish scriptures.
The influence of the Old Testament on the New Testament has been much written on.
But here I mean to say that this fact, in conjunction with the evidence of previous elements, for example, the pre-Christian Pesher literature, Christian claims to have found hidden information in the scriptures, and so on, makes it plausible to ask whether the gospel was actually discovered and learned from the scriptures, rather than the scriptures being consulted after the fact as a merely defensive reinforcement For key claims Christians were making, supposedly on other grounds.
For this point, it's enough to illustrate how easy it would have been to do this, even beyond what was already shown in Element 6.
As I've already noted, the wisdom of Solomon declares that the wicked will, quote, condemn to a shameful death, end quote, the holiest man of God, which in the first century would entail a crucifixion, in contrast to an honorable death like decapitation, because they are blinded by their wickedness and do not know the secret purposes of God.
Wisdom 2, verses 20 to 22.
Just compare 1 Corinthians 2, verses 7 to 9.
This righteous man they kill will be, quote, unquote, the Son of God, Wisdom 2, verse 18, who criticizes the current religious order and promotes strange teachings, Wisdom 2, verses 12 to 16.
Those who kill him will scorn and reject him and mock him during his torture and execution, saying, Surely God will come to rescue him, which, to an interpreter looking for hidden connections, links this text with the same man in Psalms 22, verses 7 to 8, which Psalm is heavenly drawn upon to construct the crucifixion scene in Mark 15.
And this righteous man will be killed, but then restored to life and exalted by God to stand again and judge those who killed him, in Wisdom 5.
Earlier, I demonstrated the links some Jews had likely made between the Messiah killed in Daniel 9 and the righteous servant killed in Isaiah 52 and 53.
The righteous man and Son of God killed in wisdom of Solomon, who is, like the innocent righteous man killed in Isaiah, scorned and rejected of men, executed, and then exalted by God, could easily have been linked to the same network of passages and thus believed to have been prophetical of the same Messiah, which then, as just noted, ties into that network also Psalm 22, which gives us the three-day cycle.
First, Psalm 22, execution and mockery, verse 16, even implying crucifixion specifically, especially in variants known at Qumran.
Then Psalm 23, burial and sojourn among the dead.
That's the funeral psalm.
And then Psalm 24, ascension and exaltation, quote unquote, on the first day of the week, where the very same unusual phrasing found in Mark 16, verse 1 is found in Psalms 24, verse 1, in the Septuagint.
Thus, Mark is clearly quoting and therefore alluding to that psalm, which together gives us the entire gospel spelled out by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15, verses 3 to 4.
Tying all of this into Isaiah is what gives us the strongest evidence of this.
The particular and peculiar concept of this Messiah dying for our sins, which notion is only reinforced by linking this to Daniel 9, verse 24, which would then imply the same thing.
The relevant material in Isaiah describes an itinerant preacher whose beautiful feet walk the land, bringing the gospel and announcing salvation, Isaiah 52, verse 7.
This preacher God will reveal to all nations, but possibly only through an elect few.
Isaiah 52, verse 10, using apocalypse, the term for revelation, that he is revealed only to an elect few and then reported to others is implied in Isaiah 53 verse 1, just as Clement of Rome appears to have thought of Jesus, as we'll see in chapter 8.
This preacher is God's servant, God's child in the Septuagint, who will deal wisely and be exalted and raised up very high.
Isaiah 53 verse 13.
Even though he will be despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, 53 verse 3.
In fact, he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.
In the Septuagint, he bears our sins and suffers for us.
And though we thought he was being punished by God, 53 verse 4, in fact, he was wounded for our sins, he was bruised for our iniquities, or even pierced for our iniquities in some pre-Christian manuscripts, as I noted in Element 9.
Indeed, with his stripes we are healed, 53 verse 5, because the Lord gave him up for our sins, 53 verse 6.
The word here is parodymy in the Septuagint, identical to the word often translated as he was betrayed in 1 Corinthians 11 verse 23, even though referring to exactly the same event, his being delivered up to die for our sins.
And likewise, this is the same word used for that event throughout the Gospels, as we'll see in chapter 11.

It had nothing to do with Messiahs.
It was not a prophecy of the future.
It was an actual sort of propagandistic statement of gratitude and honor for an actual historical thing that was happening at the time that text was written or near the time when the text was written.
Now, after that, forget it.
Jews are never interpreting it that way again.
They're seeing it as some sort of mystical secret message for the future.
So they're reinterpreting it constantly to mean different things.
And there are debates over this.
So we have debates in the Talmud, for example, where there are rabbis saying, no, that's a passage about Cyrus.
And then you have rabbis saying, no, it's a passage about the Messiah and about the future Messiah.
So you have you have these arguments.
So we know they were interpreting these passages in different ways.
And we look at the peshers of Qumran.
They were getting wildly strange interpretations out of the Bible.
So you can just throw away any notion of trying to get back to the original meaning of the text.
The early Christians were not basing their religion on the original meaning of the Old Testament.
They're seeing like secret messages.
They're looking at some sort of weird Bible code.
See, fan fiction Bible code, reading all these different scriptures, putting them together and creating a new narrative fulfilling all these things.
That's so obviously what happened.

Thus, Clement assumes that Jesus speaks to us through the scriptures, as again noted in Element 16.
Clement didn't even have to say this.
He simply assumes that a quotation of scripture can be described as a quotation of Christ without explanation or citation.
The fact that the Corinthians don't need see everybody knew this is why Paul didn't say, oh, I learned this from Jesus.

He never even mentions disciples.
He says he got it from Revelation because that's the only way to have any credibility in early Christianity was to say that you were getting it from the angel Jesus and from the scriptures.

Likewise, when Clement says Jesus is their high priest, he quotes or paraphrases either Hebrews or some lost scripture that was also used by Hebrews, which, like Hebrews, declared Jesus to be their high priest, appointed to a higher office than all the angels, securely identifying him as a celestial being.
For Clement, the words of Jesus always come from scripture.

Logic then entails that this sacrifice has to be of a divine body, not an earthly one, and has to be performed in the divine temple, not the earthly one.
And the author here says that is exactly what Jesus did, that this was his whole purpose.

Jesus is here being declared the superior replacement for Moses.
So we should ask whether Jesus is just as mythical as Moses was.
Evidence for that conclusion can be found all throughout this elaboration on the gospel, which again says nothing about Jesus being crucified by Pontius Pilate or conducting a ministry or performing miracles or teaching anything.
Instead, when this author quotes Jesus, for example, quote unquote, he says in Hebrews 10, verse 5, and quote unquote, after that he said in Hebrews 10, verse 15, the book of Hebrews simply quotes the scriptures.
This author thus evinces no instances of a historical Jesus having said anything.
Look, therefore, when Christ came into the world, this is Hebrews 5.10, he said, sacrifice and offering.
So there's the quote, and it says it right there from Psalms.
And no, Jesus was not just quoting the Psalms non-stop and only spoke from the scriptures.
This is how they created this fictional character.
And again, it's from the how you know is because it's from the Septuagint.
Also, the Greek translation when Jesus supposedly spoke in Aramaic or Hebrew.
Apparently, the only way the author of Hebrews knows to learn the words of Jesus on this subject is by finding them in scripture.
For the author actually believes these are the words of Jesus and not an interpretation of the words of Jeremiah or the Psalmist, because he says these are the words of Jesus, which were transmitted through the Holy Spirit to the authors of those texts, and that, therefore, this is how Jesus speaks to us.
Just as we saw in 1 Clement in chapter 8, the fact that nowhere in Hebrews, in all its 13 chapters, do any historical words of Jesus appear, yet Jesus is often quoted by quoting scripture, is not only evidence the gospels had not been written yet, but that there was no historical Jesus to quote.
Revelations may have been quotable, and the author of Hebrews does seem aware of this, but never quotes them directly.
Their content was evidently such that he never had occasion to or was not permitted to, as in 2 Corinthians 12, verses 3 to 5.
Further evidence lies in the fact that Jesus in this gospel sprinkles his blood on objects in outer space, not on earth.
Though he does not die in the celestial temple, he nevertheless must carry his blood there.
And only once he does, and thus only after his ascension.
And the book of Hebrews likens Jesus to the priest in the order of Melchizedek.
It's from Psalms 110.
That connects to the Melchizedek scroll found at Qumran that dates about 100 to 200 BC.
And also very similar to the ascension of Isaiah, where Jesus is being crucified by Satan up in heaven.
These are all this is the giveaway of that Christianity started as a celestial Jesus character and they learned about him from the scriptures, like Paul says so clearly over and over again.
And just like Paul says that, last of all, he was seen of me also.
In other words, Paul, who never met Jesus, was seeing Jesus just like everybody else saw Jesus in the scriptures.
They didn't actually know him as a preacher that was going around the Middle East.

More importantly, this author sees no need to explain how a man crucified by the Romans could do any of this.

You're trying to tell me that Jesus had disciples.
He did all these miracles in front of him.
He predicted that he would be killed and resurrect, and then he resurrects and they still have doubts?

Just like in Luke, Jesus appeared.
Jesus himself came up and walked along with them.
He appeared after he resurrected, but they were kept from recognizing him.
So he only came to a couple of his disciples, didn't do a victory tour so everybody could see him and everybody could know he resurrected.
No, just to a couple people who were really just apostles that were seeing him, the pillars, James, Peter, Paul, and John, I think, were the ones that were seeing the original ones and the 12, which is probably the Essenes.
Paul, a lot of Paul's language and concepts come from the Qumran scrolls, the Essenes.
It's like a pre-Christian sect, essentially.
They were kept from recognizing him.
So Jesus appeared to them after he resurrected, but they were kept from recognizing him.
