| According to the Salon article, the use of water in this way can take up to 800,000 acre-feet of water per year, which sounds like a lot, but when you consider that the California water system, quote, manages over 40 million acre-feet of water a year, it puts things into perspective. | ||

| There was a tiny bit of physicality between them, but it's in the genre of people blocking each other. | ||
| Not really even close to what you'd call violence or fighting, like Alex is describing. | ||

| This is the kind of discussion that should be allowed to be had in privacy and with vulnerability, where each side is able to actually express what they feel about their side of the issue, and hopefully they can both come away with a better understanding of other people's perspectives. | ||
| This is one of the very important things that college environments can facilitate, as people from tons of different cultures and backgrounds are made to come together in one place to learn. | ||
| The byproduct of that should be an intense broadening of your worldview. | ||

| So I watched the video, and I cannot possibly imagine hosting a news show and thinking this was something that I should cover, let alone something I would bring up again months later after it happened. | ||
| And you can pretty easily tell why Alex is, especially by the way he's couching his language. | ||
| Like, this is about race to him. | ||
| This is a proxy for him to talk about that. | ||
| The white guy is someone who has, quote, adopted all the fake culture superimposed by Hollywood, and, quote, talks with a made-up social justice warrior inner-city dialect. | ||
| The black woman and her friend are, quote, trendies who look like they're part African, who are looking for excuses to be, quote, nasty, evil, mean thugs. | ||
| It's pretty blunt stuff when you really get down to it, and there's honestly another reality to this video, and that is that Alex is reporting on a fake version of what happened. | ||
| According to an article in the Golden Gate Express, which was out long before this episode was recorded, so Alex has every reason to be aware of it if he cared at all, this video did not include the entire exchange between the guy with dreadlocks and the woman. | ||
| The woman in the video, who I will leave anonymous out of courtesy, claimed that the guy with dreadlocks, who I will also respect his anonymity, walked past her while she was handing out flyers. | ||
| She made a passing joke about his dreadlocks to her friend and the dreadlocks guy called her a bitch, all of which was not included in the video. | ||
| This sequence of events is verified by multiple other students who were there and saw the entire incident, who said that the video only captured the second half of their exchange. | ||
| And this woman ended up getting doxxed and, like, all sorts of... | ||
| The video was recorded by another student who posted it online, omitting important context and framing the video as an out-of-control black student attacking a white guy for having dreadlocks. | ||
| Alex is reporting on this shoddy framing of this video because that's the story he wants to tell. | ||
| The story that centers around the white student as the innocent, if possibly misled, by culture victim, and the black student as an out-of-control thug who has to browbeat the white student into submission. | ||
| It's a fake story, but it's real to Alex and to his audience, because it's how they feel when they see someone getting in trouble for saying the N-word, or they see people suggesting that Confederate flags flying on government property is super fucked up. | ||
| That feeling is real to them, and the edited version of this video provides the story that they need. | ||
| They need to hear that in order to maintain the illusion that this feeling that they have depicts reality. | ||
