From Ghetto to Dream Center
00:13:34
|
|
| Welcome to the Jim Baker Family Show. | |
| Today, our special guest talks about preparing without fear. | |
| Our co-hosts today are Pastor Ricky Baker and Reverend Mondo de la Vega. | |
| And now, here is your host, Pastor Jim Baker. | |
| Hello, everybody. | |
| Good to see you today. | |
| Oh, my God. | |
| I miss the audiences. | |
| Yes. | |
| I miss you, too. | |
| I was going to say more than me. | |
| More than me. | |
| No, I miss you. | |
| You're my little boy. | |
| Remember you when you came to my house at four years old? | |
| I was four years old. | |
| And you brought your little sister with you. | |
| That's right. | |
| You brought us in from the inner city of Phoenix, Arizona. | |
| I was four years old. | |
| All I had was some underwear. | |
| And the spidey man. | |
| I had some underwear and a pair of oversized tennis shoes, I think, I probably took from someone, you know, in Phoenix, Arizona. | |
| And you were taking care of your baby sister. | |
| That's right. | |
| Yeah. | |
| And talk about food insecurity. | |
| That's where we were at. | |
| You know, we were struggling to eat every single day, stealing food, doing whatever we could to scrap up food. | |
| It was real food insecurity. | |
| Tell me why you took care of your baby sister. | |
| How did that happen? | |
| Oh, I think, you know, you're living in an environment that's filled with gangs and drug abuse and people are constantly driving. | |
| That's what it boils down to. | |
| You're living in a crackhouse. | |
| And so it was children taking care of children, essentially, is what it boils down to. | |
| What it boils down to is obviously was the provision of God over me to have the wisdom to say, oh, I should take care of my younger sibling, even though I'm 40 years old. | |
| He has a little girl now. | |
| That's right. | |
| And sweet, sweet, sweet girl. | |
| She's married to a good husband. | |
| Well, that's legacy right now because I know that my children, who I know is just Jacqueline, Luke, and Evangeline, and her children, Drew, all the children that we have, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you saying yes to adopting us. | |
| I may have had other children at some point, and only the Lord knows what my life would look like. | |
| I think it's probably been a hippie and a hippie. | |
| There you go. | |
| I probably would have been. | |
| I don't know if I'd have been a hippie, but what I do know is I wouldn't have the life I have right now, and I definitely wouldn't have the children I have right now. | |
| And so I'm eternally grateful that you have given us a legacy and heritage because you said yes. | |
| And honestly, what it started with, and there's vivid memories, Mondo can attest to this. | |
| What it started with was they went to the inner city and they fed people. | |
| They went down to the inner city. | |
| They saw these kids who had no food, who had no idea. | |
| And they fed a lot of people. | |
| They fed kids, they clothed kids, and they told them about it. | |
| And we still do if we can. | |
| Well, that's what our church is doing. | |
| You pass down the mantle to the next generation of church. | |
| And our church is going out. | |
| We're feeding our community. | |
| We're clothing our community. | |
| We're visiting those in prison. | |
| We're doing those things because you did those things for us, and we're doing them for the next generation. | |
| Mondi, you were in the ghetto with me. | |
| Yeah. | |
| Not my ghetto, though. | |
| He was in a different state. | |
| We are in this dream center. | |
| Yeah. | |
| Thanks for the Elvis. | |
| I just got to tell you this, because we don't talk about it that much. | |
| But we swept the streets. | |
| Yeah, it was a program that we birthed at the Dream Center called Adopt the Block. | |
| That's right. | |
| And we dedicated it together. | |
| But why would we do that? | |
| I think back at him, I think, I'm sweeping streets. | |
| But the people seem to like it. | |
| Yeah, well, it was not so much the liked. | |
| They felt the love. | |
| Sometimes you have to keep your mouth quiet and put it into action. | |
| But they held me. | |
| Yeah. | |
| I mean, I felt the love. | |
| You know, the Bible says that Jesus came to serve. | |
| That's the key. | |
| We were serving. | |
| Could we write a book someday called Adventures in the Ghetto? | |
| Yeah. | |
| Adventures in the Ghetto. | |
| That's your next book, Monday. | |
| Adventures in the Ghetto. | |
| Mondo, you and I had great adventures. | |
| I'll co-write it with you, okay? | |
| Let's do it. | |
| Because I was healed in the ghetto. | |
| You were healed through servanthood. | |
| Isn't that funny how that works? | |
| I thought everybody would hate me and everybody loved me. | |
| Well, what does the word of God say? | |
| It's the goodness of God that leads a man to repentance. | |
| I guarantee if you went down there with Mondo and a group of other guys and you were browbeating people with the Bible and telling them that they're sinners and they're filthy for living the way they lived, every one of them would have shut the door on you. | |
| None of them would have accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. | |
| And we would see families lost because you didn't show them the goodness of God. | |
| What did you do? | |
| You went, Mondo, I know you guys mowed their grass. | |
| You provided medical. | |
| You referred them to dental stuff. | |
| I've seen the program. | |
| You guys swept the streets, picked up trash. | |
| You did all this. | |
| That's right. | |
| You love people. | |
| You fed people. | |
| And then you presented the gospel to them. | |
| And it was the goodness of God that led people to repentance because you showed them goodness, even when they felt like they didn't deserve it. | |
| That's the point of the program. | |
| And I think that's what the church should be doing today. | |
| Food opens the door for that opportunity. | |
| I feel like food opens the heart. | |
| You know what I mean? | |
| I think the Dream Center still gives away more food. | |
| Oh, during the last California fire, they were lined up for probably what it felt like on the video, miles and miles and miles of people. | |
| Rich people? | |
| Oh, it didn't matter if you had money or didn't have money. | |
| The Dream Center was there doing the work of the Lord as well as other ministries like Brian Bolt out of Whittier, California, and a couple other incredible ministries. | |
| But the church is supposed to be the hands, heart, and action of Jesus where we step in the gap and we say you're loved and we care for you. | |
| Isn't that amazing, though, that even in time of need, the Dream Center, which helped a lot of people help me. | |
| They helped the rich. | |
| I mean, filthy rich people that lost their homes. | |
| Yep. | |
| Lost their transportation. | |
| The love of Jesus cares when people are broken and hurt. | |
| The moment the fires took place within an hour, while the fires were still burning, people were trying to figure out what to do. | |
| Pastor Matthew Barnett went live on Facebook and said to the people, if you need a place to live, if you need a place to stay, if you need a hot meal, if you need a hot shower, come to the Dream Center. | |
| And that call went all over Los Angeles, California. | |
| And the rich, the poor, the middle class, people flew in from all over America to serve that community. | |
| Till this day, that community is still needing healing. | |
| But guess who's there today? | |
| Flashpoint is there today, you know, showing off the work of the Dream Center. | |
| Ministries are finally gathering to show what you and I experienced. | |
| Working with them now. | |
| They're working with them now. | |
| And Gene and the whole Flashpoint army are there. | |
| Tell the people who Gene is. | |
| Gene is a former student of yours that is now the host of Flashpoint. | |
| He graduated from my school. | |
| Yeah. | |
| And then he worked on staff for years. | |
| Yeah, he was your camera operator, TV director. | |
| So he grew up on television with me. | |
| And today he has one of the greatest shows, I think, in the world. | |
| We love Flashpoint and Flashpoint. | |
| You can also see on the PTL television network, which we have available on video and demand as well as our 24-hour player. | |
| I want to know why do you think Americans feel overwhelmed right now? | |
| A lot of things are pulling at them. | |
| You know, everybody knows, especially money. | |
| But they're not giving to the church and to the television. | |
| I think people, you know, in the last days, people's hearts are waxing cold. | |
| I think people are waxing cold, the spirit of giving, the spirit of Christ. | |
| You know, we talked in the last show about rejecting the Prince of Peace, you know, the Son of God. | |
| So if you reject the Prince of Peace, how can you have peace? | |
| So you don't, you know, it's a snowball effect. | |
| And so, how did you find God? | |
| Like a lot of people, through adversity. | |
| Really? | |
| Through adversity, through problems. | |
| I had a lot of health problems. | |
| My grandmother. | |
| You look very healthy to me. | |
| Thank you. | |
| Thank you. | |
| When I was young, I had a lot of health problems. | |
| My grandmother and my great-grandmother used to read the Bible to me. | |
| You know, she lives and she's 96 years old and would read the Bible to me, read these stories to me. | |
| And of course. | |
| You have good stock then. | |
| Yeah, my name's Daniel. | |
| So she'd tell me about Daniel in the Bible. | |
| So she'd tell me all these stories. | |
| My grandmother would pray over me, tell me about the blessings of Israel and Deuteronomy 28. | |
| And says, you will be blessed in the city. | |
| You shall be blessed in the country. | |
| You will be blessed going in, going out. | |
| You shall lend and not borrow. | |
| All these blessings. | |
| My grandmother used to pray those and say those and proclaim those over me. | |
| And so I had that anchor. | |
| And so when I had a lot of health problems, I mean, a lot. | |
| I mean, you know, a lot of things to deal with. | |
| And so I could have turned a lot of different places, but I turned to God. | |
| And so that just brought me closer and closer to God. | |
| And I know that God, you're kind of a rugged boy. | |
| A rugged boy? | |
| Yeah, like mean or something. | |
| Mean. | |
| No, I wasn't mean. | |
| No, I wasn't mean. | |
| I like sports, but I wasn't mean. | |
| Not like Mondo. | |
| What do you say? | |
| Like, what do you mean? | |
| Mondo's not. | |
| No, no, no. | |
| I'm not mean. | |
| What's wrong with you? | |
| How dare you? | |
| How dare you stand mean? | |
| Let's duke it out. | |
| Yeah. | |
| See, this is what it was like on the phone when we were talking about the prices. | |
| No, I had chronic fatigue syndrome. | |
| That's what I was diagnosed with whatever that means. | |
| I had a lot of health problems. | |
| My life was derailed, really. | |
| I was, and I was, didn't know what to do. | |
| And so through that, it really, I begged God. | |
| I mean, I didn't know what I was going to do in life. | |
| And I begged God to help me. | |
| And I believed, and I did not stop. | |
| I believe God, you know, God's word. | |
| Yes. | |
| Look, this is what you're telling me, God. | |
| I believe you. | |
| It's so good. | |
| So I kept holding to him. | |
| And I can't even, I didn't know how I was going to support it. | |
| How was I going to support a family? | |
| How was I going to even have a wife? | |
| How was I going to have children? | |
| How was I going to do anything? | |
| I'm not going to stress today. | |
| And even if they don't have a food shortage, a lot of things are pulling up there. | |
| They don't have peace. | |
| They don't have that anchor. | |
| And then all these things hit them, especially financial. | |
| Financial people are being pulled as never before. | |
| Their families, they're seeing their children go all kinds of different directions. | |
| They're seeing their children get in all kinds of different trouble. | |
| And they don't know what to do. | |
| And they feel their life and life as they know it and life as they expect it. | |
| And the America they grew up with, if we're just talking about America, but it can apply anywhere in the world. | |
| They're seeing the world that they wanted to know and they're seeing it disappear. | |
| They're seeing unraveling before them. | |
| And they don't know what to do. | |
| And they're grabbing on and they don't, they're not sure. | |
| How does it fear food and money affect families' decisions and mentally? | |
| Well, when you're stressed, you make bad decisions. | |
| Yeah. | |
| You know, you make poor decisions and you get into situations. | |
| And, you know, throughout history, problem, reaction, solution, that's how you move a population too. | |
| And you're talking whether it's an individual or a population, that's how you move them. | |
| You get them to buy into things because you get them off their moorings and off their convictions. | |
| And that's what we've seen in culture. | |
| Has the Lord supplied your need? | |
| Has always been with me. | |
| God is, I will, God, look, God has always been with me. | |
| I'll put my hand up. | |
| God has always been with me. | |
| He does. | |
| How do we tell people that he's going to do the same for them if he'll believe? | |
| I mean, I've moved how many times think I moved a hundred times probably in my lifetime. | |
| And God has always provided for me. | |
| That's right. | |
| And I've never seen the righteous forsaken or his feet or his seed out begging for bread. | |
| That's powerful. | |
| I went to prison for five years. | |
| It's powerful what you're saying. | |
| And God gave me favor in a prison. | |
| That's right. | |
| And greater is he that's in me than he that's in the world. | |
| That's what people need to know and stay with him. | |
| What you just said, what is inside you, the kingdom of heaven is within you. | |
| God has placed something inside you so valuable and so important and so intrinsically different that God is not going to lose that connection, what he has created. | |
| He's going to hold on and he's looking for that spark. | |
| And so if you can light that spark, grow that spark, hold on. | |
| If you can hold on to the spark, God will certainly hold on to that spark. | |
| In the book of Revelation, it says in chapter 21, and I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them and be their God. | |
| And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. | |
| Oh boy. | |
| I mean, the end of Revelation gets pretty good. | |
| That is such a good thing. | |
| That's what I'm looking for. | |
| The visual of that, you know, is so powerful and so tangible. | |
| And it's what you have for the better part of your life. | |
| You have the message, that spark, that hope, that vision is what you've tried to give to the world. | |
| And you've been a pioneer. | |
| You've been an icon doing it. | |
| And we need it now more than ever because people are forgetting it. | |
| They're letting go. | |
| They don't see it. | |
| Their neighbors, their TV, their children, whatever. | |
|
New Manna for Preparedness
00:02:59
|
|
| But they can't let go. | |
| They have to hold on. | |
| In my life, God's always come through for me. | |
| We'll be right back after this special message. | |
| Since 2020, grocery prices in America have soared up nearly 25%. | |
| Meat, eggs, and produce have had some of the biggest jumps in decades. | |
| And the average household now spends over $7,000 a year on food. | |
| And even though prices may have slowed down, they're not going back to what they were. | |

| NUMANA, food that's built to last and made to enjoy. | |
| And now, back to the show. | |
| I don't know if you said it, or somebody told me preparedness is peace of mind. | |
| Yes. | |
| Yes. | |
| And you are the preparedness king now, right now, anyway, as far as we're concerned, is new mana. | |
| That's new and manna, mana is food. | |
| Of course, this is a spiritual and physical operation enterprise for us in that we're offering this freedom and this independence and a lifeline and a what have you and resilience in the in a time of uncertainty. | |
| That's really what New Man is about. | |
| What does hope look like in your vocabulary when you're prepared? | |
| You prepare people every day of your life. | |
| Well, I've seen, like I said in earlier broadcasts, earlier shows that we had, something has to click in people to motivate them to take action because it's not natural for most people that go on about their life and the way life is constructed. | |
|
Joseph's Journey Through Trials
00:12:12
|
|
| Now, it's not natural. | |
| Are we here to worry? | |
| I think we must be. | |
| Well, we like to worry, but we won't take action. | |
| We get complacent. | |
| We get, I don't know what the word is. | |
| And so something has to spark in you. | |
| And so once you understand that something may be wrong in the world, we're rejecting the Prince of Peace. | |
| So now I can't rely on the things of the world. | |
| I have to rely on my king. | |
| And I look to the Bible and stories of the Bible and stories of Joseph. | |
| I mean, look, you talk about prison. | |
| Talk about prison. | |
| Go back to Joseph, what he went through. | |
| And then how he saved Egypt and how you are sitting at home. | |
| What is God? | |
| Do you ever think about that? | |
| God let his people go through prison? | |
| Well, he put the Israelites 40 years through the desert. | |
| I mean, because they can't stand prosperity. | |
| You know, part of it is they can't stand prosperity. | |
| The trial of your faith is more precious than gold. | |
| They're more than gold. | |
| And also, some people can withstand it and they're going to have to go through it for the rest. | |
| Like Joseph suffered for all of us, all those people. | |
| There wouldn't be tribes of Israel. | |
| The tribes of Israel would have starved if it wasn't for Joseph. | |
| How long have I been out of prison, Ricky? | |
| Mondo, this is since the 94. | |
| 94. | |
| So almost 30 years. | |
| Oh, my God. | |
| It's not that long. | |
| Yeah. | |
| I've been married. | |
| Laurie. | |
| 27 years. | |
| I would still be in prison if God hadn't worked a miracle and got me. | |
| All of us, all of us are in a prison of sin. | |
| We're in a prison of the flesh. | |
| We're in a prison of having our hearts, the will of the flesh, balanced with the will of the spirit. | |
| And it's a constant fight. | |
| And, you know, just look at ancient Israel, all these sacrifices of the flesh. | |
| What's the one message that God is keep telling us? | |
| We must sacrifice the flesh for something greater and greater what's inside of us, that we have this and have this hope of a greater world. | |
| And that when you satisfy, put those things aside, that something greater can come out of you and miracles can happen because you believe, because you have hope. | |
| So what does hope look like when you're prepared? | |
| Hope, no matter what comes in front of you, you believe that you can get through it. | |
| No matter what. | |
| Yes. | |
| In this uncertain world, you believe that you can get through it and you know God is with you. | |
| You have provisions. | |
| You've done what you can and you put the rest on God and you believe that what's inside you. | |
| And I have your food in my basement. | |
| You should. | |
| It's cool down there. | |
| Yeah, you should. | |
| You should. | |
| But I want everybody to have food. | |
| Mondo, how long have I been storing up food? | |
| Do you know? | |
| Wow, since Katrina, how long, Katrina? | |
| 20 years. | |
| 20 years. | |
| Two decades. | |
| Yeah, two decades already. | |
| Now, big thing, this discussion that we're having right here on air, Mondo and I had a similar, you know, similar conversation. | |
| This is serious. | |
| These aren't business decisions. | |
| Obviously, no, it's not business. | |
| No, obviously business is involved to produce this and what happens. | |
| But your eternal life as well as your life on earth, I mean, you can die and go to heaven, but why die that kind of agonizing death? | |
| I don't want you to be in a compromised situation. | |
| When you have food, you have hope. | |
| But and I can tell other people that Jesus provided for me. | |
| And you can be a light to them. | |
| Also, look throughout history, look throughout the different nations of the earth. | |
| And that's what I want for all of you. | |
| I want you, even though things may go wrong in this whole world, because who knows what's going to happen. | |
| Read the book of Revelation, you see what's going to happen. | |
| I'm reading the end right now, and it's talking about God will wipe all the tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. | |
| Oh my God, the four things will be all passed away. | |
| Wow. | |
| Wow. | |
| Amen. | |
| And you know, Ricky, I have dreams a lot lately because I've been in bed. | |
| I mean, you know, that's what you do in bed, dream. | |
| But I pray a lot. | |
| I talk to God. | |
| And I've had several dreams of going to heaven. | |
| And it's so beautiful and so wonderful that I'm not afraid of death. | |
| In fact, I think my wife gets mad because I kind of want to go to heaven. | |
| Oh, yeah. | |
| You don't want to wake up, do you? | |
| It is, can I say stupendous? | |
| Heaven is beyond anything I've seen on earth. | |
| And I want you all to go there. | |
| God has prepared a place for you and me. | |
| And all you have to do is ask Jesus into your heart to forgive you your sins, and he will. | |
| All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. | |
| I say that so much, but it's true. | |
| All have sinned and come short. | |
| But God says for you to come to Him and He'll give you eternal life. | |
| Oh, people, make sure you're right with God. | |
| In fact, every day, just check in with God and say, Okay, God, I'm sorry if I've sinned today, but I'm going to serve you all the days of my life. | |
| And humble people don't worry me. | |
| It's people who are arrogant. | |
| Well, the Bible says that the Lord gives grace to those who are humble, but he resists the proud. | |
| Oh, that's good scripture. | |
| Yeah, could you help me preach? | |
| I'm here whispering in your ears. | |
| But ask Jesus, come in. | |
| Most important decision. | |
| And next, please put food in your pantry. | |
| Yeah. | |
| And who knows what's going to happen in this whole world? | |
| But it sure wouldn't hurt to have 100 buckets of food down in your basement. | |
| And I do want to make sure you know that the prices have been reduced. | |
| Yeah, we amen. | |
| Yeah, we had a wrestling match and seeing what we can do. | |
| I mean, we, you know, I say that in jest. | |
| And you lost, right? | |
| Well, we both had the same goal. | |
| We just, how can we make this work? | |
| I mean, this is the, you know, this stuff. | |
| I know Mondo, and he's determined. | |
| Well, if you make, if you make quality food, let's put it this way, it costs money. | |
| Yes, it does. | |
| You know, if you make a bunch of junk, it's a lot less, but it's a lot more to it. | |
| So we have lower prices. | |
| We want to get rid of all the obstacles as much as possible. | |
| We have a buy now, pay later option. | |
| I feel impressed. | |
| Obviously, I want to thank you for doing what you can do. | |
| You're so welcome. | |
| Thank you for allowing me to be able to talk about this. | |
| This is part of our part of who we are. | |
| I want people to be prepared. | |
| I want them to be independent, at least for some certain amount of time in their life, no matter what happens. | |
| They're not relying on FEMA. | |
| They're not relying on everybody watching the show right now to go to our website and look at New Mana website and see all the food for yourself and see what they will do. | |
| Because they said they'll put off you even paid. | |
| There's a buy now paid later option. | |
| Nobody hardly does that anymore. | |
| Unless you're buying a window or fountain. | |
| A mortgage. | |
| But this is a lifeboat. | |
| We're selling lifeboats. | |
| And, you know, if for some reason the things don't happen, and hopefully they don't. | |
| Hopefully you never have to experience any of these things. | |
| At least you have food. | |
| At least you've frozen your food price. | |
| It's not an, it's a no-lose investment. | |
| How can you lose? | |
| Yeah. | |
| You know, you said, you know, one of the last broadcasts, what, what, what will it cost you? | |
| How long would you say each one lasts? | |
| Your buckets? | |
| You mean eating it or time-wise? | |
| Time-wise. | |
| Time-wise, this is going to last 20 to 30 years. | |
| Obviously, depending how you store it. | |
| Oh, I hope I didn't say it's an early one. | |
| Store it in your basement or it's still on the basement. | |
| Where it's room temperature. | |
| Don't put it in a garage or an attic. | |
| Yeah, out in the shed. | |
| Out in the shed where it goes, you know, 120 down to negative 20, whatever. | |
| It won't last five years. | |
| I want to stock up on New Mana because I want to have you ready. | |
| Absolutely. | |
| And so go to the website and how many buckets do you think I should have? | |
| 100, 200? | |
| At least. | |
| Each person should ask the question. | |
| I said this on previous. | |
| Well, I'm an old man, so I don't have to ask you. | |
| Just ask the question. | |
| If I couldn't go to the store for a week, what would I need? | |
| For a month, what would I need? | |
| For three months, what would I need? | |
| Wouldn't this bucket last about a month or so? | |
| This would, yeah, for you. | |
| Yeah, this will last you about a month. | |
| Well, we have to go. | |
| Oh, it's been so good to see you. | |
| I'm so glad. | |
| I really believe in what you're doing. | |
| Thank you. | |
| I'm your probably number one supporter. | |
| I would agree. | |
| And that's why it's an honor to be here. | |
| And I want everyone to get food. | |
| You may make fun of me right now, but they're not going to be making fun of me when they're hungry. | |
| Don't let the world beat you down. | |
| Jesus is your savior. | |
| The devil wants to hurt you. | |
| Greater is he that's in you than he that's in the world. | |
| I have to go. | |
| I don't want to go, but I have to go. | |
| So tune in tomorrow, okay? | |
| God loves you. | |
| Don't let anybody tell you he doesn't. | |
| He really, really does. | |
