Former Top Gun Pilot Ed Rush Joins Us 00:06:02
Hello and welcome to the Jim Baker Family Show coming to you from the village of Morningside, USA, nestled in the beautiful Ozark Mountains.
Today, our special guest is a former top gun fighter pilot, five-time number one best-selling author and successful business consultant, Ed Rush, and pastor of Mount Calvary Powerhouse Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Bishop Ron Webb.
Our co-host today is Pastor Ricky Baker.
And now, live from Gray Street at Morningside USA, here's your host, Pastor Tim Baker.
Thank you, Weston.
Ricky, you're in charge now, so I'm going to tell you what Dad wants.
I want to show the people Morningside.
Amen.
We need to give them a tour our large campus here.
We do the opening or the closing or something.
Hopefully everyone got up, woke up, put their shoes on, and went out to vote.
Everyone needs to vote, guys.
That is our right to be able to.
Yeah, if you haven't voted, get out.
Stop watching the show.
Go perfectly.
Come back.
Put it on pause.
Vote, vote, vote.
Amen.
Yeah, we have Ed Rush with us, and he is a top gun.
Tell us what that means.
So Top Gun, so there's a, well, there's, you know, the movie.
Yeah.
Right?
So the first movie was nothing like reality.
And I'll tell you, the second movie was very much like reality.
So Tom Cruise did a good job 30 years later of making it look real.
But Top Gun's a school.
It's a Navy school that Marine pilots and Navy pilots go through when you graduate.
You essentially are one of the elite instructors in your service, which is what I did in the Marine Corps.
And all that coming from a person who failed kindergarten.
So how about that?
So we're going to talk to you today.
Did you have any scary times as a top gun?
So there were several times when my plane tried to kill me.
And there were also times that I tried to kill my plane.
So that's how I categorize both of those things.
I had an airplane twice.
I went completely out of control in an airplane.
Like you saw the first Top Gun when Maverick and Goose were on their way to the ground.
Twice I got an airplane out of control.
That's when I tried to kill an airplane.
Airplane tried to kill me once.
I lost an engine.
How did you land with those times?
Well, so the out-of-control flight procedure in the F-18 is a very step-by-step procedure.
And Pastor Jim, you're going to love this.
The first step in the out-of-control flight procedure when you lose control of your airplane is you release the controls completely.
Literally, you let go.
The fly-by-wire system is so good.
This fly-by-wire system is so good that it just kind of takes over.
Wow.
And it's a very great spiritual principle as well.
Sometimes when you feel a little out of control in life, let go.
Or during election season or when things are getting a little difficult, sometimes you just need to let go.
Wow.
I think you're the first top gun I've had on the show.
He is.
That's right.
That's right.
So can I shake your hand?
Yes, sir.
Thank you very much.
I'd like to fly with you.
All right.
We're going to fly together.
I'd love it.
Let's do it, man.
You'd be the first time I had Pastor Jim Baker in my airplane.
I'm not scared to fly because I'm closer to heaven.
We have also my best friend, Bishop.
Bishop.
Ron West.
Bless you, Pastor.
Bless you.
How are you doing?
You never stop preaching.
No, sir.
I call you and you're in the car going somewhere to preach.
Yes, sir.
That's right.
I didn't start to stop.
How do you keep going like an energizer bunny?
Well, there's G, General Electric, and then there's G, God's energy.
And so I'm thankful for God's energy.
Yeah.
Amen.
We have the Copeland sisters in the house, and they're going to sing in a minute.
That's right.
I think they're going to start with Doris Akers song.
Are you?
Is that right or not?
I'm an old Doris Akers fan.
Anybody know who Doris Akers is?
Raise your hand.
Oh, yes.
Oh, God.
She's only been dead a few years, and they've all forgotten her.
She's one of the greatest singers there ever was.
Amen.
And we have some of your boys with us from your organization, and they're in the front.
And I was pleased to meet them today.
I like to have people on the show.
I had one time 50 guests on one show.
Yes.
That's right.
So, Ricky.
I think nine's the most we've ever done.
Yeah.
Fear not.
Yeah, the mini guests, huh?
No, as long as you got enough microphones.
That's the truth.
And I have something special.
And it's from Rabbi.
It's supposed to be later in the show, but I'm going to do it right now.
Rabbi Jonathan Kahn sent me, or I don't know where I got it.
Yeah, we needed a pulling from Fox News, from him, just his response.
Was it Fox and who?
Stean, Fox News?
Well, we're going to watch it.
We don't need to give away the surprise.
We're going to watch this video, though.
Okay.
Listen to me.
So help me.
Stop doing the dishes.
Stop cleaning the house.
Vote For Jesus 00:15:29
Stop anything.
And watch this piece.
And if you haven't voted yet, go out and vote.
Yes.
And all I'm going to tell you to do is vote for Jesus if he's on the list.
But vote for somebody who will stand up for the kingdom of God.
Amen.
But right now, Rabbi has something to say.
It happened as Kamala Harris was making a campaign speech.
She said this.
We all move forward because ours is a fight for the future and it is a fight for freedom.
Donald Trump hand-selected three members of the United States Supreme Court with the intention that they would undo the protections of Roe v. Wade and they did as he intended.
For Kamala Harris, abortion is at the center of her tendency.
But then something happened.
And it's hard to hear, but it's definitely what happened.
A couple of Christian students in the crowd, and it was apparently hard for them to keep hearing about the killing of unborn children, shouted out the words, Jesus is Lord, and Christ is king.
Jesus is Lord and Christ is king.
That's it.
Jesus is Lord is one of the central foundations of the Christian faith, the gospel message upon which America was to exist.
What was Kamala Harris's response to Jesus as Lord and Christ is king?
Listen.
Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally.
No, you meant to go to the smaller one down the street.
She is mocking them, mocking them simply for saying Jesus is Lord and Christ is king.
What she did in an earlier time in America in the West would be considered heresy, would be considered blasphemy.
One of the two students said as he held up the cross from his neck, that Harris, Kamala Harris, sarcastically waved to him and gave him what he described as an evil smirk.
Me.
I took this cross off my neck that I wear.
And as we were getting asked to leave, I held it up in the air and waved at her and pointed to her.
And she looked directly in the eye, kind of gave me an evil smirk.
And yeah, I just want to clear that up and confirm that she 100% was talking to us.
And there's other controversy that says we left.
We were getting shouted at, pushed, assaulted, screamed at.
So we were walking away.
We're moving from the Christian faith, a Christian-based civilization, to an un-Christian or non-Christian to end now and anti-Christian, where someone running for president on a major ticket of the major party can actually say that Jesus is Lord is not welcome.
In reflection of the event, Jesus was mocked.
You know, his disciples were mocked.
And that's okay.
In reality, we did God's work and we were there for the right reasons.
But to tell Christians who simply say Jesus is Lord that they have no place, these are the words that the Antichrist will say in one form or another.
But it's something you'd expect for a demon to do, not a presidential candidate in America.
And yet it's written that even the demons call him by his title.
Two Christians, they said they were heckled.
People at the rally cursed them.
And I specifically remember this one man saying, you were uninvited and unwelcome to this event.
You need to leave.
And all they did was walk us out the door.
They didn't tell us why.
No cops escorted us out.
This is the future that Kamala Harris and her campaign are fighting for.
This is what you are going to get with a Kamala Harris presidency.
You are going to get the Kamala Harris that alienates over 50% of the U.S. population that is Christian.
It's revealing that underneath all the other issues of the, quote, culture war is ultimately one issue, Jesus and Jesus is the lordship of Jesus.
But this unprecedented event revealed something else.
Because, and this is not about the people, it's not about that we know everybody's imperfect, but the issues.
She said that those two Christians who said Jesus is Lord, they didn't belong there with the Democratic rally.
They belonged down the street at the other rally, which was for Donald Trump.
It was the Republican rally.
She said it.
Get what she say.
If you say Jesus is Lord in America, it has no place at her rally or her agenda, really her America, but it does belong at the other rally.
And we wanted to kind of send in a message that, you know, as Christians, at least me and Grant, we don't accept or agree with her abortion policies and that we believe that Jesus is Lord and that he has the final say in everything we do.
And it's something we center our life around.
So I guess we wanted her to know that.
It has never been this radical before, whether on the killing of unborn children, whether on the mutilation of children, the indoctrination of children against God, against life, whether on the potential persecution and the encroachment of religious freedom, free speech, and Christians.
What do you want your future to look like in this country?
Do you want to have to struggle to pay for gas?
Do you want to have to struggle to afford groceries on a daily basis?
Do you want to even struggle to get your first mortgage on a house?
Because that is the future you're going to get with Kamala Harris.
That's why it is crucial, number one, that you vote.
If you don't, you become complicit with those who say that Jesus is Lord, has no place in this camp, and we want America to be this camp, this civilization.
And after watching this, you can't say you didn't know.
You were warned.
This was a warning sign.
A future with no morals, a future where people are exposed to evil on a daily basis.
And, you know, people are stripped of the very power they have as citizens of the United States.
I implore first-time voters, make an educated choice.
Those who make this argument to justify abortion, that it's nothing more than the woman's own body, save it.
Save the argument.
Save it for the day of judgment when you stand before God and see how far it gets.
Bishop, how does that affect you?
We have to be very careful that we don't blaspheme the things of God.
And to say that... That's blasphemy.
Yes, and to say that God is not young.
Two young boys in Kimberland's audience to stand up and say Jesus is Lord.
Yeah.
And he is Lord and He will be Lord.
That's right.
And things have changed in America and they're going to be just dissolved.
I think God hates abortion.
I believe murdering millions and millions of babies is just abhorring to God.
Yes.
Now, the founder of the abortion movement, Margaret Singer.
Yeah, well, she built, they put all the abortion clinics in black neighborhoods.
Yes.
Yeah, she was a radical racist, just as well known as the people.
Does that offend you?
It breaks the heart of any life.
That's right.
Regardless of what color they are, life is life.
And to lose a life is detrimental and painful.
50% of the black babies in Chicago are murdered.
Yes.
And that should affect anyone, any child of God.
It should have an effect on them.
That's right.
To make the church want to stand up and say something and do something.
Absolutely.
I want everybody if you haven't voted in different time zones in the country.
If you can still vote, get out and vote.
Yes.
We've got to save America.
We've got to keep America from going down towards atheism and communism and all the evils that are coming.
I don't know how many people, experts are saying we're on the, we perhaps have started in World War III.
Yes.
I know you're a pilot, Ed, but you're a Christian.
What do you think the direction America is heading?
You're American.
You fought for America.
It's interesting.
So when you watch that rally, so as a fighter pilot, you're trained to recognize and obey the voice of your controller.
So if the controller turns left, turn right, land on this runway, you do it.
You lose your wings.
You'll never fly again if you don't.
And what's interesting about that little clip that we just saw there is you can clearly recognize someone who has no idea who the controller is in this situation.
You see a woman who does not know God.
Isaiah 40 says, haven't you seen, haven't you heard, the Lord is the maker of heaven and earth?
Paul said, you know, his ways are unsearchable.
His ways are beyond finding out.
And you see, and you look in her eyes, I actually feel compassion for her because she's a person who has no clue who her God is.
And I've been telling people this now for over a year.
You should pray that she won't become president, not just for our country, but also for her sake.
Her soul is on the line in this election.
The presidency will ruin her.
I'm just telling you, the presidency will ruin her.
This is a person who's not been called to that office.
And so as you pray, pray that God's will in her life would happen as well.
It's really important as we pray that.
And by the way, when you see that clip, in a sense, it's very sad to see what's happening in our country.
And in another sense, rejoice because we're getting to see evil exposed.
You get to see it with your own eyes.
When you watch that, you get to see with your own eyes.
And we've been praying for that for years.
Amen.
This is Election Day.
And we may run it later on too.
So it may not be Election Day, but the first time this runs is Election Day.
So I don't know why Christians don't vote like they should because we need to save America.
Don't you think so, Bishop?
Absolutely.
And man, if there's no greater time than to stand up and to fight, you know, for what's right and to make a stand in the body of Christ.
You know, it's one thing to recite the problem, but it's something else that summons the solution.
We have a great opportunity to make a great difference in the world.
And I believe every Christian should run to the polls, amen, with a prayer in their hand and just believing God, you know, that the right person is in office at the right time.
As Ed alluded to a few moments ago, we want God's will to be done because there's hope for America, you know, but our leadership needs direction.
You understand war, I think, Ed.
I don't know how many great, great, not only prophets, but leaders, tell me we're really in the beginning of the Third War, Third World War.
What do you think?
So I think it's safe to say that this cosmic war that we're in, this war for good and evil against God's forces and the enemy forces is in full effect at the moment.
The wonderful thing that we're seeing about that, again, taking it back to military days, when we used to brief our military briefings, the very first thing that we would brief is the disposition of the enemy, where they are on the ground.
I mean, you know this, like where they are on the ground, what's the disposition, where are their tanks, where are their weaponry, everything.
That's the first thing that we would see.
And one of the great things about what's happening in the world today is we're actually getting to see the disposition of the enemy.
We know who's who.
It used to be a politician had to pretend to be a Christian to get elected.
Now, like, you get to see it right on the screen.
So we get to know who's the enemy camp, who's in God's camp.
And I think the spiritual war for sure is happening.
As far as World War III on the ground, it's interesting.
We were actually having this conversation offline.
A lot of the warfare that's happening in the world right now has a lot more to do with what's happening with computer systems than it does with actual what we call kinetics.
Kinetics would be you shooting a mortar downrange, me shooting a Mark 82 downrange.
And so what we're seeing, for example, from China, from countries that like Iran that are our enemies, is actually more of a cyber warfare at the moment.
I would agree we're in World War III on that front for sure.
It's a new war.
It's right, a new war.
What do you think, Ricky?
He's absolutely right.
That's what we're facing.
I do believe that there'll be the times where there'll be peer-on-peer warfare, but for the most part, we will be seeing cyber warfare.
When our Pentagon is attacked hundreds and hundreds of times a day, friends, that is cyber warfare.
You can't deny that.
And we're seeing that right now.
I don't think people know that.
Well, it's, you know, it's pretty vastly public information.
You need to go out there and realize, you know, our Pentagon is.
Don't get it.
Our Pentagon is attacked thousands of times every day with cyber.
Yes, they're trying to.
That means computer and stuff.
Computer warfare.
Yes, that's right.
Computer warfare, biological warfare.
That's the direction that I believe the world is trying to move into with a third world war.
That's what we'll see.
And just to like add just one thought on top of that, when we're talking about cyber, we're also talking about information.
That's right.
Disinformation.
Who controls the information, especially happening online?
And I'll just tell you, like, our countries, the countries around the world that are enemies saw the way we responded as a country to COVID, and they learned a lot.
20 Million Evangelicals Voting 00:00:58
They understand now with a small biological threat that we shut everything down.
And so I'm just, that really is, I think, the front at the moment.
Makes it really a good point about why you should go and vote today again.
This is like the theme of the show so far.
If your polls haven't closed yet, please get out and vote.
Go stand in that line.
Christians vote.
Yes.
When you have a chance to guide your country in the way you want it to go, don't blame everything else.
They say Christians don't vote.
20 million evangelical Christians said that they didn't want to participate in this election cycle.
God's Conversation 00:11:27
20 million.
We were losing states by tens of thousands of votes.
That's a third of people who identify themselves as evangelicals.
That's right.
And we'd win any election.
20 to 25 million votes.
Think about that.
Yep.
The abortion crowd wants to get out and vote.
They love to kill babies.
But God is not going to be happy with this.
He forgives your abortion, but he doesn't want it to continue.
Oh.
Got me in a bunch.
I feel like you're in a preaching mode.
Yeah.
The Copeland sisters are going to sing.
And I want to tell you something, girls.
I plan to go to heaven pretty soon.
20 years.
Yeah.
But as long as you're going to live here, I want you to sing here, okay?
Amen.
I've been looking for music for a long time.
You know, I received the Devil Award as the most gospel music show in America.
Yes.
I got the big award.
Amen.
And I don't need awards, but I sure would like to be known as musical.
And maybe people that live here could form a band or something.
Yeah, there you go.
Well, the Copeland sister is going to sing for us whatever they want to sing.
You can just introduce it yourself, okay?
Here they are.
The beautiful, wonderful Copeland sister.
There's a sweet, sweet spirit in this place.
There are sweet expressions on each face, and I know they feel the presence of the Lord, Sweet, sweet.
filling us with your love and for these blessings.
We're gonna lift up our hearts in praise without a doubt.
We'll know that we have been revived when we shall leave this place.
Sweet, Holy Spirit, sweet heavenly daughter, you're right here with us, filling us with your love and for these blessings.
We're gonna lift up our hearts in praise without a doubt.
We'll know that we have been revived when we shall leave this place.
Sweet, Holy Spirit, sweet heavenly daughter, you're right here with us, filling us with your love.
And for these blessings, we're gonna lift our hearts in praise without a doubt.
We'll know that we have been revived when we shall leave this place without a doubt.
We'll know that we have been revived without a doubt.
And that song was written by Dora Saker as well.
Sweet Holy Spirit.
It's a great song.
Beautiful.
Ed, you have an amazing book.
Truly.
It's called How to Have a Friendship with God.
That's what everybody wants.
And God talks even if you've made a million mistakes.
That sounds like my story.
Me, mine too.
We all make mistakes, but God forgives.
Amen.
I've been preaching on forgiveness, but you know, I find out that's the hardest subject for people to accept.
Yeah.
That we have to forgive.
He says, if you don't forgive, I won't forgive you.
Did you know that?
That's what he said.
And that's one way to get saved.
That's how I got out of prison.
I found out I had to forgive from my heart.
But this book is amazing.
And I hope people can read it.
It's called God Talks by Ed Rush.
Ed, tell us what it was like for God to talk to you and answer you back.
Yeah.
By the way, I think the most important thing for a believer to do after being saved is to develop a one-on-one conversation with God.
And by the way, the subtitle of the book is Even If You've Made a Million Mistakes.
I'm a member, founding member of what I call the Million Mistake Club.
And what I find, and I really appreciate you, Pastor James, for your transparency through your whole life.
I find that, you know, a lot of believers will come up to me with the book, and they come up to me with a book, and they'll whisper.
They'll point at the subtitle, even if you've made a million mistakes, and they'll whisper, and they'll go, that's me.
And I'll go, why are we whispering?
And so, you know, one of the wonderful things about God, I've taught atheists.
I've literally taught atheists how to have a conversation with God.
I know that sounds crazy, but I tell believers, if I can teach atheists how to hear from God, I can teach you too.
And, you know, God describes himself as the word, which means he must have something to say.
And I was a person 15 years ago that would call, I call myself a cessationist.
If you're familiar with that, that's a person who does not believe that the gifts of the Spirit are operational at all.
And then God started speaking to me.
I should say maybe I started listening.
And I took it to my pastor.
I remember I was sitting over a cup of coffee with my pastor.
The coffee was still warm.
And I looked at him and I said, look, I'm having these conversations with God.
And he said, he was a very strict cessationist pastor.
He said, he said, first of all, you shouldn't do that.
Second, that could get really hokey.
And I always tell people he was right about the second part.
Because sometimes God likes to mess with you, but clearly the first part he was wrong about.
And so I started developing this conversational relationship with God.
And what I found was we were able to talk about my life, my family, my business.
We were able to talk about money and things that I never thought even were on the table.
I talked about everything, especially since I had a lot of time now.
I've been in bed for a year and I've just talked everything over with God.
And he listens.
That's right.
He does.
And I've had some dreams and visions and all kinds of things.
I just have developed a relationship with God and it's real.
Yes.
And I just wish people would get you a book.
Is it online or where do you get your book?
You can get it anywhere books are sold.
Amazon.
That's probably where most books are sold these days.
You can hear the audible version.
You can download on Kindle or read the actual book.
But the principle of the book is really simple.
First of all, God wants to have a conversation with you.
It's really very fundamentally simple.
Most believers talk themselves out of it.
Roughly 90% of Pastor James of the people that I encounter who are in the church will tell me that they've had a difficult time hearing from God.
And I think that that should be the opposite.
I think it should be 90% of the people who should say, I can hear from God clearly and freely.
Jesus said, my sheep hear my voice.
Really, one of the challenges we find in our modern world, like 300 years ago, if you were going to go for a walk or if you were going to go six miles down the street, you would just walk.
You would just walk.
And during that time, you would slow yourself down.
You would have some time just to be at peace.
Nowadays, we go six miles in six minutes in a car with a radio going, and it's difficult to slow ourselves down and hear God's still small voice.
And so the voice teaches a believer or trains a believer on how to connect your mind to the voice of God.
That involves slowing down just a little bit, asking some questions.
The book teaches you how to ask some very specific questions and then just journal the answers.
And I can tell you confidently, we've had literally, literally, well over 20,000 people that have gone through this process.
I've yet to have one person tell me that they didn't do it, that they didn't hear from God, even having gone through the process.
I've had everyone from all walks of life, from atheists to agnostics to Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims.
I get criticized for that, by the way, for what I just told you.
And people say, well, why would you teach an atheist to hear from God?
And my answer is very simple.
God loves them.
That's right.
And because of that, I love them.
And I've seen some massive cataclysmic transformations in people's lives who are atheists, who heard the voice of God.
One story I tell in the book about a woman named Maya.
And when an atheist meets a Christian, they're going to ask you questions like, if God's so good, why does evil exist?
When an atheist has an encounter with God and they hear his voice, the next question they ask is, what do I do now?
That's right.
What do I do next?
I find introducing people to the living God to be the most powerful evangelistic tool ever.
Executing Maneuvers at 8,000 Feet 00:03:39
I could give them tracks.
I could give them a great argument.
They'll walk away unbelievers.
I could give them an introduction to the God of the universe and they will turn immediately into a loving relationship with God.
And that's usually what he brings first, frankly, is his love.
Amen.
Amen.
You know, chapter three and four, you write about two different times where you nearly died while in your plane.
Can you tell us about that?
Yeah, so, well, okay, so there's two different stories, but I'll tell you the one that we talked about earlier, which is when I went out of control, out of control in an F-18.
I failed kindergarten, by the way, and I was not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I did go on to fly airplanes, and I did go on to graduate from Top Gun.
I always tell people flying in F-18 is not that hard.
You push the stick forward, the houses get bigger.
You pull the stick back, the houses get smaller.
You push the red button on the stick, all the houses go away.
It's really all you need to know about flying an airplane.
Sorry for the pacifists out there.
I'm just giving you the real deal.
But when I was flying at the height of my career, when I was a Top Gun pilot, I would take these young students out and teach them how to fly in the F-18.
And when you're like the best or you think you're the best and you're taking a young student out, you know, you're going to show them a few things.
And so I was in the middle of a dogfight with my young student.
I was trying to execute a maneuver.
That was a very difficult maneuver to execute, but I'd done it before.
If I was able to execute this maneuver, I would have won, easily won the particular dogfight.
And in the middle of trying to execute this maneuver, I lost complete control of my F-18.
Now, just to put this into context, I was at about 20,000 feet above the Sea of Japan.
That's a body of water right near Japan.
It's the most shark-infested waters in the world, by the way.
And I'm looking at my heads-up display, and I'm falling to the ground at 20,000 feet per minute.
So I'm at 20,000 feet falling to the ground at 20,000 feet per minute basically means I have about a minute until my airplane and I go plunging into this shark-infested waters, which was not how I was planning on spending my afternoon.
That's right.
And so I had a procedure that had been given to me by my instructor.
And the procedure was the out-of-control flight procedure in the F-18.
The first step of that procedure, I could tell you from memory, controls release, feet off rudder, speed break in.
I could do the whole procedure.
Literally, I haven't flown the airplane in 14 years.
And I was given a choice as to what to do, do that procedure or not.
And I immediately and instantly executed the procedure, let go of the controls and let the airplane with its amazing fly-by-wire system correct my major problem.
That system, that computer inside that airplane is one of the most powerful pieces of software that has ever been put into an airplane.
It can take a full spin, which is almost impossible for a pilot to get out of.
It can take a full spin and get the pilot out of that in about 10 seconds or less.
And that's exactly what my airplane did, by the way.
As I was approaching about 8,000 feet or right about the time I was supposed to eject, my airplane righted itself.
It completely controlled itself.
The nose pitched over, which is what you wanted it to do.
And I flew myself out of that conundrum.
By the way, I was a very embarrassed pilot flying myself out of that conunder, but I was a very live pilot too.
So I'm pretty happy about that part.
And as I reflected on that moment, I sat back and I thought, man, it's amazing the piece of software that was inside that airplane.
Like an amazing that a piece of software, we never used to have software like this in airplanes, can literally save a human life.
I would have died in any other airplane except for an F-18 and I would have died for the worst possible reason a fighter pilot can die, which is being stupid.
Understanding The Mind's Software System 00:13:58
And so I started thinking about that.
And when I started writing the book, part of what the book does that's different than a lot of books that teach people how to hear from God, because there's a lot of books that teach people how to hear from God.
But at the beginning of the book, just as you so eloquently asked, the beginning of the book teaches an understanding of the human mind, how the mind works, literally how the software system in your mind works.
It goes into some neurology because fundamentally, it's helpful to hear from God, but it's even more helpful to hear from God so that it makes a change in your life, in your relationships, in your bank account, in your business, in the time that you spend with others, and the way that you utilize your time and your vibrancy in life.
It has to make a change.
And that change actually has to happen neurologically.
And so what I teach people in the book is not only how to ask God questions, but then how to use those answers to literally, I mean, this very physically rewire the neurology of their mind so that they can see the kind of success that they want.
So if you're the kind of person that's like struggling in the past with money, if you struggle in the past with relationships, if you struggle in the past with hearing from God or understanding God or making that breakthrough, give God the opportunity to speak into that and then take those things and use them to change your life.
That's what's fun.
Wow.
Is there any secrets to talking to God and to breaking through?
I mean, you make it sound so easy, but I guess when you're dying, you cry out to God.
I enjoyed reading your book.
It's well written.
And I think people, especially in this day we're living in, will take from this book.
So many people struggle from hearing from God, and you just break it down and make it the simplicity of it.
But so many people struggle.
How do I hear from God?
How did you make that transition from a sensationalness to hear from God?
It's fascinating.
So 90% of the people that I talk to in the church say that they struggle hearing from God.
I'm like, you got to be kidding me.
That's crazy.
Jesus said, my sheep hear my voice.
And you said, Pastor James, that I make it sound so easy or so simple.
And that's because it's so easy.
It's so simple.
Most believers have one of four voices in their head.
They've got their voice.
They've got the world's voice.
They've got the enemy's voice, and they have God's voice.
And distinguishing those four voices is the most important step to be able to do that.
And to do that, the first step is to simply slow down.
The process I teach takes 15 minutes.
I encourage people to try this.
15 minutes a day for seven days.
That's all I ask.
Just do 15 minutes a day for seven days.
By the way, there's audios included free with the book.
I created a whole series of wonderfully produced audios that you can literally put your headphones on with a journal, and I will literally walk you through the whole process with a little music in the background.
The principle is that most people are talking themselves out of a conversation with God.
Most people have a little voice in their head called the inner critic.
It sounds like the critical version of themselves.
For some people, it sounds like their mom or their dad or their angry brother or somebody, you know, some voice in their head.
And often that voice comes right next door and just goes, no, no, no, you didn't hear that.
That didn't actually happen to you.
That experience didn't happen.
And most people hear God.
They really do, but they throw it away way too quickly.
And so believe that.
Yeah.
I mean, we've done that.
I think anyone who's walked with God has taken something and thought it was them and tossed it out the window.
And it turns out later that God was trying to save them from something.
Wow.
You have to come back.
Okay.
The answer is yes.
I've enjoyed reading your book, Asking God About God, is one of the subjects you talk about.
What are you mentioned three things?
I don't know if you remember three things you found out about God.
Yeah, very good.
So there's in the seven days that I teach in the book, it's 15 minutes a day for seven days.
The first day you're going to ask God about you.
The second day you're going to ask God about God.
And then you go into your past, into your future.
You're going to ask God about money, your purpose.
And then if you have a business, you're going to ask about business.
But the first and second day are key.
My experience is that in the first day when a person asks God about themselves, God will reveal, typically, a fundamental lie that they've been believing that has set the trajectory for their life.
And in the story, in the book, I tell probably 20 stories of people who believed a certain thing and then it went a certain direction.
Like, for example, if you're the kind of person who thinks that you're not worthy, and about 70% of the people who do these exercises, when they write it down and we ask them, about 70% of the believers will write down one of the lies they believe about themselves is that they're not worthy.
I mean, think about that for a moment.
God's wonderful children, these men and women that God is in love with who feel themselves unworthy.
I have a six-year-old daughter.
I have four kids, but my youngest is six.
She's a little girl.
And I mean, I love all my kids, but this one is like really special because she came kind of late.
I have a 19-year-old, 17-year-old, 16-year-old, and a six-year-old.
Some people ask me if it's my second wife.
I said, my first wife is our seventh marriage or eighth marriage or 20th marriage.
I don't know how.
When you've been married for 20-some years, you know, you've been married, you know.
So, so anyway, my little six-year-old, I said, what would you think if you asked my six-year-old, if you said, what does your father think of you?
And my six-year-old says, well, I'm unworthy.
You would think there's a problem with dad.
You would wonder what's wrong with dad.
But if a believer thinks, well, I'm unworthy, that's actually more of a reflection on your heavenly father, actually, than it is upon you.
And so when God asks, when you ask questions about yourself and you ask questions about God, what it does is it fundamentally resets the relationship that has actually gone astray.
What you think about you and what you think about God literally, physically change the direction of your life.
I'm talking about career changes.
I'm talking about bank account changes.
I'm talking about the kind of relationships that you have, the kind of vibrancy that you have.
It all starts right here.
It all starts with a belief.
And the fundamental premise of this book, it's really that I think the genius behind the book, even though I know it sounds like I'm talking about me, was really the process that God sort of unfolded for me as it went, is it simply connects someone to an understanding of what God is saying about them so that they can reset their software and live a totally new life.
And we've done this long enough now.
The book's been out for a couple of years.
We do events.
Literally, 500 people descend on cities to do these events, to do these things live.
I've done this enough to know it works.
And I will just go so far as to say it works every single time someone uses the process.
Amen.
Amen.
You know, a lot of people would have the question, if I can't hear from God, is God mad at me or is he done with my purpose here on earth?
What would you say to that?
It's great.
So first of all, the number one thing that I brought to my first conversation with God, I went in, I'll tell the story in the first chapter of the book, you'll hear about my first time with God Talks.
And I was in a counselor's office sitting there, and the counselor asked me to ask a question to God.
And honestly, I thought the first answer that God was going to give me, I thought the first time that God was going to speak to me, I was sure he was going to say, I'm disappointed in you.
You know, you have so much potential, but you lived, you know, just wish you could do better.
I thought that's what God was going to say.
And I always tell you, God always leads with love.
By the way, there's sometimes he'll like push you a little bit, encourage you a little bit, but I've never heard disappointment out of God.
And honestly, if somebody should hear disappointment out of God, it probably should be me because I'm a member of the Million Mistake Club.
And so I always tell people, like, most people are a little wary, actually, of a conversation with God because they're afraid to hear what God's going to say.
I go back to my relationship with my daughter.
If you went up to my six-year-old and you said, what does your dad think of you?
And she said, well, he's disappointed in me because I'm not reaching my potential.
You'd be like, what's wrong with that?
What's wrong with your father?
And so if you're a believer and you think God's disappointed in you, that reflects more upon your view of the heavenly father than it does on your view of yourself.
I always tell people, just give it a shot.
Give God an opportunity to speak into your life.
You might find a completely new version of yourself on the other side.
Amen.
Amen.
I don't know if you know that I went to prison.
I do.
And the devil beat me up in prison at the beginning.
And I said, God, are you trying to get even with me for my sins?
You know what he said?
I got even on the cross.
He says, I'm not mad at you.
I just wanted you to get to know me.
And I'm one of these crazy people that I learned something in prison.
I learned one thing.
I read the Bible through, but I studied the Revelation word for word.
I became a Revelation teacher.
And in fact, my boys let me.
I'm wanting to get the Revelation out again and start teaching on it because I believe we're in the Revelation days.
Absolutely.
But I had to go to prison.
I never studied before the book of Revelation.
But I studied it in the Hebrew, Greek, or whatever.
I just studied it in the original.
And it was very, I mean, word by word.
That's right.
And it's not as hard to understand if you read it and read it and read it.
And that's getting to know God.
But he said, no, I'm not trying to get even with you.
I'm trying to get to know you.
I'm trying you to get to know me.
And he said, this is the line.
I got even on the cross.
That's great.
Amen.
And if you just realize God's not mad at you, God loves you.
He paid for your sins on Calvary's tree.
Amen.
And he will forgive you right now.
And you can ask him into your heart.
And above all, the day that we're living in, we need to know Jesus Christ as our personal Savior.
You must, must.
You know, talking with him, I talk with him every day.
I found out you talk with him all day.
But I talk with God.
I do.
I've been in bed for almost a year.
And I've had the greatest experiences talking with God.
Amen.
He's real.
Yes, he is.
And he never beats me up.
I think you expect God to beat you up, but he doesn't.
He loves you.
Jesus died on the cross for you.
He always leads with love.
Isn't that great?
Did you find that too?
It's at the moment he spoke to me the very first time.
It's interesting you mentioned prisons.
In my old church, we had this guy that used to sit in the front row.
His name is Robert.
He spent 20 years in federal prison.
The most joyful person that I've ever met.
Robert had nothing.
Dude took a bus to a bus to a bus to get home.
But he was one of the most joyful people that I knew.
And part of it was there's nothing to hide.
Everybody knew.
Everybody knew who he was.
Everybody knows who he is.
He's a redeemed believer that's in love with God.
And 20 rows back, there was a guy named Carl who couldn't forgive himself for some dumb decision he made 10 years ago on some dumb night.
And literally, Robert, who spent time in prison, was better off than Carl, who spent spending time in his own past prison.
And it's so interesting when it comes to our past.
Sometimes the most qualified, like a person who has, like, for example, a person who's gone to prison actually is far more qualified for ministry after that than they were before because they get confronted with the reality of the nature of who they are and who God is.
And the redemption is the world's greatest evangelistic tool.
And so it's fascinating to see people get set free.
Most believers are living in some version of a past prison.
Most people I know, I get to hear thousands of people's stories thanks to this book.
Some of them I don't even want to hear, honestly.
But most people are living in some version of the following lie.
I missed out.
I messed up.
I made too many mistakes.
I ruined my life.
And all those things are lies.
They come from the pit of hell and they smell like smoke.
And I think it's brilliant, brilliant how you shared that.
Amen.
You know, traveling around and preaching, I've had parents come up and they'll address, you know, some of their children's issues with me and say, I don't understand why they're doing X, Y, and Z. I'll say, you know, there's really two primary reasons.
There's other reasons, but there's two primary reasons why sin happens in a young heart and even an old heart.
It's one, they don't know who they are, and two, they don't know how much they're loved.
And what I realized going through this book and journeying through this book is both of those things can be remedied through a conversation with Christ.
Both of those things can be remedied through active conversation with the Father.
So if we can teach the next generation before they go through those hard trials and big mistakes, if we can teach them conversation starts when you're young with Christ, I believe they'll solve the issue of who I am and am I really loved.
Those questions will be answered quickly.
Dude, that's great.
I love how you said that.
And quickly before we leave, because we only got a minute, two minutes left, this is a new product that we offer.
Helping Hands in Disaster Zones 00:08:11
You know, we've been sending this out, helping people in disaster zones across the nation, which is amazing.
You know, we've seen hurricanes devastating with our Eastern border.
Bishop, did we ever get sent two trucks out to Hurricane Helene in North Carolina?
Two pack trucks, 50 feet trailers.
And we've got another one.
And I was told you're going to have to be able to do that.
Trump is Trump.
Chef Life food.
Bishop is our missions director.
And he has ways into the food supply.
Yes.
And we've given truckloads of food to people.
And helped rebuild cities.
That's right.
You know, flooded cities.
Well, that's our responsibility as the church.
We are the hands and feet of Christ here.
Evangelism sometimes comes through a hot meal.
Evangelism sometimes comes through this, clean water for people.
Do you know what you're going to need?
Water.
I'm telling people, what is our enemies trying to do right now?
Shut our power off?
Yeah, we've been seeing that there are threats of an EMP, which they're saying would affect our water systems, water filtration systems.
But this is a different war.
Vastly different.
This is a Ricky war.
I mean, you understand.
It's the future.
That's right.
The future warfare is very different.
It's technology.
That's right.
It's drone warfare.
It's different than it's ever looked before.
but i just know there's atomic warfare with you're talking referring to iran's nuclear Iran right now has the ability.
You don't know it, but I know it.
For an atomic bomb.
Yeah, they have been boasting that.
And guess what our president has said?
Oh, don't bomb their bomb.
Our current administration.
That's right.
Wow.
Don't bomb their facility.
They vow they're going to destroy Israel.
And then we're next.
That's what they say.
They vowed they will destroy us.
You know, somebody said when somebody tells you who they are, believe them.
And I think we really should be taking a lot of these world leaders at their word.
And I wanted to say this last day on the voting day, if you haven't voted, please, God help you.
Get out and vote.
I voted early this year.
And I voted the first time in about 30 years because I wasn't allowed to vote going to prison.
What an awesome thing, though.
Oh.
Amazing.
So please stick with God.
Ask Jesus into your heart.
Make sure you're ready for heaven.
And Pastor Ricky, on this book, I was thinking how to hear from God.
You asked a question.
What are the pastors saying?
What a great gift for Christmas.
That's right, for your pastor.
For your pastor, the leaders across the country.
That's right.
Because they need to hear from God now.
That's the number one question.
How do we hear from God in these times in which we're living?
You know, going through this book.
This water, I want you to ask about.
I'll say afterwards.
No, we're out of time.
We're over time.
This water will last maybe forever.
Yeah, they have at least a 20-year shelf life.
But I'll tell you, we've been sending it to disaster zones and it's getting used almost immediately.
That's the beauty of it.
It's great water.
Yes, verified.
It's clean.
It's military-grade plastic.
It's on our website.
They can get it.
And you can get it by the case.
You'll get it.
That's right.
People have been getting it for themselves, but they've also been donating it to churches who are going out like Bishop Ronwell.
Your church can buy the car load.
That's right.
We're sending, we've sent 14, 16 pallets of water on the first try.
Praise God.
And another 16, not pallets.
That's right.
They love that because they've been out of water.
And the water that's on there, it's filled with bacteria.
So this would be really, really good.
So, you know, it's a need.
Ricky, what?
We're going to finish that.
I just want to make sure we talked about this.
You know, going through this book, this is powerful.
Like you said, I believe this does need to be a gift for a pastor during this Christmas season.
Just give it to him right now and give it to him early.
Going through this, I realize one thing.
I want to say thank you for writing this.
Thank you for listening to the voice of God.
You know, there's a beauty of it because God isn't always there to want to just fix your problems.
Sometimes he wants to heal your perspective.
And that is what I realized through this book.
You're giving people the opportunity to walk through that journey of having their perspective healed, to let them know God's not angry with me.
Does love me.
So, if someone wants to get this book, they can go anywhere where books are sold.
You said Amazon or major retailers, or they can go, I believe the website is Godtalks.
Yeah, GodTalks.com.
By the way, you made my day.
I told you this when we first met, he's got notes all the way down the side of his book, all those little tabs right there.
Your producer Ben came up to me and said he read the book.
That's the kind of stuff that warms my heart, man.
So, the website is GodTalks.com.
Easiest website to remember.
You know how to spell both of those words.
Amen.
When you get there, you can see the link.
We read it.
There's no good.
That's right.
We got to make sure it's good.
You have to read the book.
Yeah, exactly.
Like, you're going to promote a book.
You got to make sure.
We're over time right now.
And so, Ben, it's your problem.
Remember, God loves you.
And if you didn't vote, get out and vote.
Amen.
We love you.
Amen.
God loves you.
He really does.
Amen.
