Oil of Anointing Ready
00:05:26
|
|
| But we're living in a day that we're there's so much evil. | |
| And so forgive me, you got me all stirred up. | |
| I'm going to have to. | |
| I think it's that Jesus talked about the lawlessness and the hearts of many growing cold. | |
| That's it. | |
| And what we're living with now is a society where the majority of people, their heart has grown cold. | |
| True. | |
| And they're willing to allow these things or they're willing to do them themselves and think they're doing the right thing and attacking. | |
| I always believe the Bible says that the enemy, the devil, is called the accuser of the brothers, sisters, right? | |
| And yet people rush in to do the work of accusing. | |
| And people who accuse others, especially those being led by the Lord, accuse them, they're doing the enemy's work for them. | |
| They're on the wrong team. | |
| That's right. | |
| And they can't even see it. | |
| The deception is so great. | |
| They don't see the foolishness of what they're doing. | |
| If you're an accuser, you're not working for Jesus. | |
| You're working for the enemy. | |
| And we've got to stop accusing people. | |
| We've got to get control over this tongue. | |
| And church people accuse one another. | |
| Yes. | |
| Right. | |
| And that's what you just said. | |
| Get a hold of the tongue. | |
| You've got to get a hold of this tongue. | |
| I mean, you have a chapter in your book. | |
| It's kind of interesting me because it's called Carrying Extra Oil. | |
| Remember that? | |
| Yes. | |
| Can you talk about that? | |
| Okay, that was, Jesus gave this really strange parable teaching the people. | |
| He talked about the kingdom of God is like 10 virgins. | |
| And you think about that. | |
| How in the world is the kingdom of God like 10 virgins? | |
| And then he goes on to say five were wise and five were foolish. | |
| And still, you don't get what does this have to do with the kingdom of God? | |
| And then we see that all of all 10 of them went to sleep. | |
| They were all unprepared for the arrival of the bridegroom. | |
| And we know the bridegroom is Jesus, right? | |
| And they were not ready. | |
| They were not ready for that. | |
| And five of them didn't have enough oil to relight their lamps. | |
| And five of them only had enough oil to get from where they were into the building. | |
| And so how is this like the kingdom of God? | |
| Well, I began to think the Lord is teaching something greater. | |
| There's something under this that's so much more important. | |
| And probably the people of that time understood it better than we do today. | |
| Oil was life. | |
| The olive oil, you cooked with it. | |
| It was your food. | |
| It was your source of light in your home. | |
| It was what you bartered and trade with in order to keep things going. | |
| Oil was so important and so precious. | |
| It was used in the sacrificial system. | |
| It was used for anointing priests and Levites. | |
| It was used for all of these things. | |
| Oil was so important. | |
| And I believe that what the Lord is saying to us is right now, we in the church have become like the foolish. | |
| Most people, when they hear that parable, they think, oh, I'm like the five wise. | |
| I'm okay. | |
| I'm doing great. | |
| But they were all asleep. | |
| And all of them were limited, five of them totally unprepared. | |
| I think that's about who we are as a church today. | |
| And we need to have the extra oil. | |
| We need to always be ready for whatever comes. | |
| If we're waiting for the bridegroom to return, and that's what I'm doing, I'm waiting for the bridegroom to return. | |
| And in the last chapter of Revelation, he says three times, I'm coming quickly. | |
| I'm coming very soon. | |
| I believe him, and it's coming soon. | |
| And how many of us are out of oil? | |
| How many of us have let the oil of anointing, the oil of the sacrifice, really the original of the sacrifice is Carbon, and it meant to draw close, doing whatever you can to draw close to God. | |
| Are we carrying the kind of oil that draws us closer to the Lord so that when the bridegroom returns, we're ready. | |
| We're ready to meet him. | |
| And Jesus said something really, really amazing. | |
| He said that when the bridegroom returns from the feast and he finds the servants waiting and they open the door quickly, he will come in, have them to sit down, and he will serve food to them. | |
| And that's our bridegroom. | |
| That's our Lord. | |
| Our Lord says, if you will be ready, ready for my return, then I'm going to come in and I'm going to take care of you. | |
| I had a vision where I was at a banquet in heaven and the tables were set, the food was ready, the people were coming in. | |
| And I suddenly remembered it said in the Revelation, blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb. | |
| And the Lord wants to bless us. | |
| He wants to bless us. | |
| But to do that, we've got to be ready. | |
| We need to have a supply of whatever it takes to draw close to the Lord and stay with him through it all. | |
| Because he said, even when the offense comes leading all the way to lawlessness and cold hearts, those who remain will be saved. | |
| We need to be among those who remain because we've stored up our equivalent of that oil so that we're ready for whatever comes. | |
