Grace and Sin 00:02:11
You go on to write in your book, there is grace for everyone.
There is grace for everything if we will open our eyes and our hearts to it.
Some people worry that if we understand grace too well, we may take it as a license to sin.
And that's what I heard growing up in my denomination my whole life.
Oh, don't take God's love as a license to sin.
Can you explain that?
Well, you know, I mean, it's what Paul said.
If people think, well, if God is so gracious, why don't we just keep on sinning?
And if you talk about the grace of God like it's as boundless, if you talk about the fact that God has forgiven all of our sin, past, present, and future, which he has.
That's it right there.
Okay, let's say that again.
Okay, everybody.
He has forgiven all of our sin, past, present, and future.
You know, on the cross, all of our sin was future.
Yeah.
And it was all laid on him.
He's forgiven every sin.
Listen, you know, God is not nearly as disappointed with us.
As we are with ourselves.
Isn't that what you mean?
If people can know that.
Yes.
But there are some people who are afraid.
And honestly, when I had people reading the manuscript, they were like, you better put a chapter in there on the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
So otherwise people can get the idea they can do anything.
I said, you know what?
Then you've told me just then that I hit the mark.
Because when Paul talked about grace, that's what they said to him.
Well, are you saying we can keep on sinning?
And you know, Jim and Lori, I'm going to be honest with you.
I've pastored now over almost 35 years.
I've never met the Christian.
I've never met the Christian who said, you mean I can just do what I want now that I'm saved and forgiven?
It's not out there.
It's a straw man.
Yeah.
I mean, and so people, pastors, honestly, God loved them, are afraid people will cast off restraint.
And so consequently, the message of grace isn't taught like Paul taught it.
And I think the church has suffered for it.
Yes.
