Sermons That Stir Conscience 00:01:59
There's an article on the news.
Just came on a few hours ago, and you may have heard it by now.
But the president of one of the, I think it was the Colorado Wesleyan College, fed up college president.
He spoke to the kids who keep saying they're victims.
And they go to hear a sermon.
Thank God the Wesleyans are still preaching.
And the kids were complaining that it made them uncomfortable, Steve.
Is that crazy?
Sermons are supposed to make you uncomfortable.
Yes, amen.
And so the president, Piper, and he says, our culture has actually taught kids to be this self-absorbed and narcissistic.
Oh, boy.
Have you ever heard that word?
This is the narcissistic generation.
It talks about how the students were feeling victimized because the university chapel service was about love and they were feeling victimized.
And that they were the love of other people, and they felt like he was entering their private space.
He explained that the familiar feeling of discomfort when confronted with wrongdoing is called a conscience.
Oh.
Wow.
I wonder, has anybody heard of a conscience?
You know, and that the goal of many good sermons is to get you to confess your sins, not coddle in your selfishness.
And now they're trying to throw the guy out.
Some people are.
My goodness.
Anything that makes us uncomfortable, we want to get rid of it.
But, you know, God wants to kind of stir our nest, I think.
You know, you know, President Piper.
You do.
And he's not a quitter.
And thank God he stood up to it.
You know, now.
We all got to stand with him.
It's time to stand behind your pastors, your leaders.
