| The definition of what is and what is not violent makes no sense in California. | |
| Let me give you some examples. | |
| Rape of an intoxicated person is considered non-violent in California. | |
| Use of an explosive device is non-violent in California. | |
| Assault by means of force is non-violent in California. | |
| Domestic violence is considered a non-violent offense. | |
| How does it make any sense that domestic violence is considered nonviolent? | |
| What 57 did was it allowed for inmates to apply for early release if they have engaged in rehabilitative effort. | |
| It was sold to the public that these were only going to apply to people that were in prison for a nonviolent offense. | |
| But the definition of what is and what is not violent, it's crazy. | |
| We've got our definitions all mixed up. | |
| It's eroded the credibility of our criminal justice system. | |
| Because when people are victimized by a criminal, And they're told, your attacker is in prison for eight years. | |
| And then all of a sudden they hear, oh, that changed. | |
| Because what happened to you is considered non-violent. | |
| It erodes the foundation of the trust that is required between government and its citizens. |
