[00:00:04] Let me give you some examples. [00:00:05] Rape of an intoxicated person is considered non-violent in California. [00:00:08] Use of an explosive device is non-violent in California. [00:00:11] Assault by means of force is non-violent in California. [00:00:14] Domestic violence is considered a non-violent offense. [00:00:16] How does it make any sense that domestic violence is considered nonviolent? [00:00:20] What 57 did was it allowed for inmates to apply for early release if they have engaged in rehabilitative effort. [00:00:28] It was sold to the public that these were only going to apply to people that were in prison for a nonviolent offense. [00:00:33] But the definition of what is and what is not violent, it's crazy. [00:00:36] We've got our definitions all mixed up. [00:00:38] It's eroded the credibility of our criminal justice system. [00:00:41] Because when people are victimized by a criminal, And they're told, your attacker is in prison for eight years. [00:00:47] And then all of a sudden they hear, oh, that changed. [00:00:49] Because what happened to you is considered non-violent. [00:00:51] It erodes the foundation of the trust that is required between government and its citizens.
