Early in 2020, when COVID was first heating up, there was a lot of concern that people in jails that were crowded would get sick and die.
The courts in California decided to implement a policy of We have zero bail, basically telling all 58 counties in California to release people automatically after they committed certain crimes.
What our study has shown is they were reoffending at an astounding rate, committing over 163% more crime than people who posted bail and committing 200% more violent crime than people who posted bail.
In fact, in many cases, within hours, of people being released from custody on zero bail.
They were re-offending, committing new felony crimes.
