The Omnibus vs. America with Mike Lee and Dan Bishop

Mitch McConnell is off to celebrate Christmas, but he made sure to leave America a lump of coal before he left. Rep. Dan Bishop and Senator Mike Lee join Charlie to talk about the omnibus, one of the costliest, most bloated, most indefensible pieces of legislation Republicans have ever allowed to escape Congress. Plus, Charlie reacts to last night's galling joint session of Congress in honor of Ukraine's president, including the kiss between Zelenskyy and Nancy Pelosi that will haunt our nightmares forever.Support the show: http://www.charliekirk.com/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Passing The Omnibus Bill 00:14:44
Hey, everybody.
Today, Charlie Kirk Show: The Omnibus Has Passed.
We talked to Mike Lee and Dan Bishop of what's in it.
And unfortunately, these things were happening in real time, and it's passed.
But a very important episode.
We talk about the Kerry Lake lawsuit and more.
And then Zelensky coming to America.

Buckle up, everybody.
Here we go.
Charlie, what you've done is incredible here.
Maybe Charlie Kirk is on the college campus.
I want you to know we are lucky to have Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk's running the White House, folks.
I want to thank Charlie.
He's an incredible guy.
His spirit, his love of this country.
He's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created.
Turning point USA.
We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives, and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country.
That's why we are here.
Brought to you by the Loan Experts I Trust, Andrew and Todd at Sierra Pacific Mortgage at andrewandTodd.com.
There are several simultaneous Republic-altering events happening.
We have the omnibus bill that is trying to be jammed down your throat right now being voted on.
We have Zelensky, who visited Washington, D.C., and he graced us with his presence in sweats, like he's in some sort of 90s infomercial for a treadmill.
And then now we have the Kerry Lake trial that we are keeping close watch on, close eyes on.
Rich Barris, a friend of this program, a friend of mine, is testifying right now, being cross-examined by someone in the Katie Hobbs defense, and she just sounds just so like a wonderful person.
But what is actually in this omnibus bill?
That is a question that we're trying to figure out.
There's 4,000 pages of garbage.
4,000 pages of nonsense, from millions of dollars to the Iditarod Trail to the Michelle Obama hiking trail to millions of dollars on gender-affirming care for the United States military.
So joining us now is Congressman Dan Bishop from North Carolina, who has actually read the bill and is doing the important and tough work of objecting to it.
Congressman, welcome to the program.
Thank you, Charlie.
I'm happy to be with you.
Walk us through what is in this bill, 4,000 pages.
Do I understand correctly?
You guys barely had any time to read this?
Oh, yeah.
The text appeared at 2 a.m. morning before last.
And give credit to my small staff.
We decided to tackle it.
And, you know, even the things we're able to find is in a hurry to read through to identify the worst of the worst and its broad outlines.
But you've mentioned a number of them.
The FBI gets a big half-billion dollar increase to over $11 billion before we've had a crack at the first witness about the FBI's ongoing interference with Americans' First Amendment rights and targeting of American citizens and the like.
And 400 million dollars almost for a new headquarters, that there's a provision that the 1.5 billion dollars of operating funds appropriated to Customs AND Border Patrol cannot be used to enhance American border security.
I mean, it actually says that.
But we have 400 million dollars appropriated for uh, the border, to enhance border security in Egypt and Oman and a couple of other Middle Eastern Arab states.
Those are, those are, you know examples, and I could go on well.
I mean so just make sure I understand this correctly, the money cannot be used to secure our border.
Republicans are voting for this enthusiastically, right.
So we got uh, Tom Cotton, we got Lisa Murkowski, we got Boozman.
We have I mean, I got the whole list here Roy Blunt no shock there Rob Portman, we got Susan Collins.
Who needs Democrats when Republicans are duplicitous enough to sell out our entire country?
That's true Charlie, and you know, this is the thing I think for those of us and I haven't been here that long I certainly empathize with the people at home who are going.
How can these guys suck so bad?
But here's the the key thing that you have to learn, and I want to say this to you Charlie, because I it was in attending your event recently at unc and listening to you speak, I thought about how you you, your career is about doing something in a different way.
The status quo in Washington, this is the system.
It is very durable.
Just last night, about 12 hours ago, Mike Lee thought he had them hung up on a yep on an amendment he was offering to extend title 42 for the border.
And sure enough, the durable status quo is that the system has reestablished itself in the course of those 12 hours and the thing's still rolling forward, and the way the House operates is part of that durable system Charlie, that's the question is how many Republicans are really prepared to change the status quo in Washington?
And it is not many yeah, and so I think you're alluding to the speakers race, and I do want to get your your thoughts on that and to allow you to to speak about it.
But just one more thing on the omnibus bill.
Um, it does seem that this is going to pass, which I just.
What is their rationale?
Privately, when you are speaking to these senators, what is their argument?
I mean, this is so wildly unpopular with even moderates and Democrats.
This adds a trillion dollars to the debt and the deficit.
It sends tens of billions of dollars to that punk Zelensky.
So what?
What exactly is going on here?
And and that's a detour worth having even before I answer your question directly that the because you teased it up pretty, pretty nicely in some of the video you played 47 billion dollars more for Ukraine, taking the number in the course of the past year over a hundred billion dollars.
And Mitch Mcconnell says it is the top priority for Republicans.
I can't even comprehend that.
I mean, is he Talking about Republican employees at Lockheed Martin?
Well, I think that's exactly the question.
They're not Republicans that I know.
I haven't had any, I mean, one or two who have a particular idiosyncratic connection, but otherwise I never get that request that this be put at the top of the list.
People are worried about other things.
And that is another indicator that we're not talking about ordinary sensibilities of Americans and just having a division of opinion.
I'll be honest with you, I haven't had occasion to speak to senators.
I'm talking to Chip Roy, who talks a lot to Mike Lee, and Mike's been the guy trying to figure out a way to get this off track.
The only thing that I have heard secondhand through leadership in the House is that they believe that the House is going to be rambunctious with a close majority in the Republicans, and therefore they don't think you can get business done as usual next year.
And I would say they're correct.
You're not going to get business done as usual.
That's what people think.
That's what the American people said they wanted.
This is so, I'm going to be honest, like you cannot sustain a government this way.
People are going to just disengage and be so cynical.
There's such an unbelievable disconnect.
And so to kind of transition back to your point that you wanted to make, and I want to give you an opportunity to do that, to read between the lines, what you're saying is you were basically saying that on one three, we need a change in leadership.
Is that a fair kind of.
Well, it's a conundrum.
I haven't finally resolved myself to it, Charlie, because I've heard the arguments that have been made, including by you, that you don't know what you get.
And the struggle is I know what we get.
I don't care how many vetoes or how many protections or stopping mechanisms we put into place.
The absence of commitment to a legislative policy strategy, the unwillingness to go to the mat to fight essential fights at leverage points across will foreordain what happens.
It will be the same as it has been.
Mitch McConnell and his ill will will call all of the shots.
In fact, this Omni puts us on ice for nine months.
And so it is a conundrum.
I haven't finally resolved in my opinion.
I agree.
And Kevin McCarthy, to his credit, is against this omnibus.
Now, the counter argument, the counter argument would be, but he's able to do that because they don't need the House votes because it's simple majoritarian bodies.
So there's a cynical interpretation.
There is also a, you know, a more optimistic one in Kevin's regard.
Meanwhile, Zelensky gets a standing ovation.
Board of Patrol doesn't get a standing ovation.
They don't get a special session of Congress.
Our country gets invaded, but I have to be lectured to by Zelensky that he needs more money.
He literally said in front of Congress, you haven't been giving me enough money.
We are doing direct money transfers into the Ukrainian treasury.
What if I told you that you could save a baby's life for just $28?
Well, it's true.
Pre-born is a ministry doing just that with the help of you, with your help.
And look, by giving your help, you guys can get a free ultrasound session.
With your help, you can give a free ultrasound session to a woman or a girl who might otherwise choose to end their pregnancy.
We know that pregnant girls and women who can see their babies on ultrasound are far more likely to choose life.
Your gift today can save babies' lives for just $28, and it can give a mother who is abortion-minded the chance to see the truth of the baby that is growing inside her.
$140 can do this for five girls and women.
And $15,000 will provide an ultrasound machine that will save lives for years to come.
Go to charliekirk.com and click on the pre-born banner.
There's no better time than now to save a baby's life.
And right now, your gift is matched dollar for dollar, doubling your impact.
Go to charliekirk.com or call 833-850-2229.
That is charliekirk.com.
I got an email.
I want your thoughts from the audience.
Do you think it's superficial to say that a foreign leader who receives over $100 billion should wear a suit and tie when he shows up to Congress?
Do you think that's superficial?
Someone says, Charlie, you're being superficial for attacking Zelensky.
You're overthinking it.
I want your thoughts, freedom at charliekirk.com.
Right now, we have Senator Mike Lee, who is doing heroes' work in the Senate.
I got to tell you, I was up late last night texting with Senator Lee.
He is doing everything he can to obliterate this omnibus bill through Title 42 amendments, through everything.
I have so much respect for him.
Senator, what is the latest?
What is it going to take for us to stop this omnibus monstrosity?
Charlie, just moments ago on the Senate floor, we voted on my amendment, my amendment to preserve Title 42 authority, which, of course, is the last thing that provides any protection to the American people along our southern border.
And moments ago, we had won the amendment.
When the time had expired, we were ahead by one vote.
Every Republican president had voted for it, and we picked up Mansion and Cinema.
Then at the last minute, they delayed the vote when they realized they were about to lose.
The rule of the day under our agreement was supposed to be that you go over 10 minutes, the vote ends, but they were losing.
So Chuck Schumer halted everything, pulled them off the floor.
Moments later, they re-emerged.
They changed their votes, and we lost.
This is the moment when we pull the fire alarm.
This is the moment when we need to send the signal.
It's no longer, I don't think it was appropriate to vote for the omnibus before that.
But no Republican should even consider voting for the omnibus now.
We need to stop this thing.
We've only got maybe another hour or two to do it, but this bill is bad and it will preserve the border crisis by failing to preserve Title 42.
Yeah, and so the Senator, I'm just curious, your colleagues that are voting for this bill that sends all this money straight to the Ukrainian Treasury, Michelle Obama trail, gender-affirming care, $400,000 for at-risk youth for green energy jobs.
And I'm barely even touching the surface, $400 million for a new headquarters for the FBI after what they've done.
What in private can you share, Senator, that your Republican colleagues, what rationale are they giving you besides, I want to get home for Christmas?
Well, okay, as they put it, they think it's really important for us to pass an omnibus rather than a continuing resolution.
They think it's better for the troops.
They can get more money for the military through this mechanism.
And they think it might be difficult for the Republican House to get something through next week because it'll be difficult.
In my view, none of those arguments come even remotely close to justifying a bill that's going to end up costing about $1.8 trillion and the spillover consequences over the next decade, which are going to cost an additional $2 trillion.
A bill that does nothing to protect our border, in fact, weakens our ability to defend our southern border and provides all sorts of special interest giveaways, like 3,200 earmarks.
This is a terrible process.
It's a terrible outcome.
And we should be giving the spending authority to the new Republican-controlled House of Representatives that will be sworn in in a matter of weeks.
It is just unbelievable to me.
Urgent Border Protection Needed 00:04:09
So, Senator, what can be done at this point?
I mean, it looks like Republicans, I mean, you've done a wonderful job, Rand Paul, Ron Johnson, Josh Hawley, you deserve credit, but it seems as if Republicans are enthusiastic to add another trillion dollars to the deficit, send more money to Ukraine unnecessarily.
What can possibly be done?
Look, in the short time we have remaining, just make phone calls to their offices and send out tweets, send out talk on social media.
And it's not just for this moment, although I would do it now while there's still in theory time to influence senators.
I think the record needs to be laid, even in the coming days.
It's still got to go through the House of Representatives.
And I think the record needs to be set that people didn't like this.
They don't like this.
And what they would much prefer is for Congress to not do things like this and pass bills that they've never read.
You know, we saw this for the first time Tuesday morning, 4,155 pages of it.
It had been written by four or five people in Congress and kept secret from literally everyone else.
So every member of Congress, even the press.
Can it be filibustered?
Can you read it from the Senate floor?
You were texting me that.
Unfortunately, those are not options.
Is that correct?
Yes, they are not options at this stage of this procedural stage.
We are at the end of the rope on this one, and that's why little time remains.
But like I say, it's still important to communicate your thoughts on this.
If nothing else, we set the record so that people will be less inclined to do this next time.
We've given this everything we've got, and there's still overwhelming, mystifyingly to me, there's still overwhelming support for it.
But no Republican should vote for this, especially now that this change happened.
And that's the big change.
That's what you can communicate.
Now that the Democrats have proven disingenuous on border security, those who previously thought they were going to vote for it should change their minds.
That's what we urgently need to communicate.
Senator Lee, thank you for fighting for Liberty.
We deeply appreciate you.

Why Republicans Stayed Home 00:12:52
Somebody asked me yesterday, one of the donors to Turning Point Action, Charlie, why is it That Republicans stayed at home in the midterms.
I don't understand.
I could tell you exactly why people stayed at home.
I don't support it.
I wish they would have showed up.
I wish we would have Senator Herschel Walker and Senator Adam Laxalt and Senator Blake Masters.
No, Republicans stayed at home in some of these states in big numbers because of exactly what is unfolding right now in front of Congress.
And a major component of the omnibus bill is the continued funding of the Ukrainian government, not even in forms of weapons or artillery, which I do not support, but in direct wire transfers to the Ukrainian treasury.
Mitch McConnell, who is the leader of the Republicans in the United States Senate, says that your number one priority is to defeat the Russians and provide assistance to Ukraine.
Not inflation, not the fact that your kids are killing themselves at record numbers or addicted to benzodiazepines, Zoloft, or Prozac, not the fact that the military got kicked out for not taking an mRNA gene-altering shot, not the porous southern border, not the unemployment crisis that is looming, not crime.
No, no, no, no.
The number one priority for you, he's telling you what your number one priority is, is helping Zelensky play Cut 28.
Making sure the Defense Department can deal with the major threats coming from Russia and China, providing assistance for the Ukrainians to defeat the Russians.
That's the number one priority for the United States right now, according to most Republicans.
That's sort of how we see the challenges confronting the country at the moment.
Unbelievable.
When someone first sent that to me, I thought it was a bad lip reading video.
You familiar with bad lip reading?
Bad lip reading is a hilarious YouTube channel where they dub over the audio of somebody talking because you can't really tell, you can't really read McConnell's lips because there's just not a lot of movement there because as pantomiming the turtle.
So I couldn't tell if he actually said that.
I had to go look it up on third-party fact-checked website that I actually trust.
And yes, he really did say that.
Mitch McConnell is saying that the number one priority is Ukraine.
Is Ukraine a state in our country?
Does Ukraine have members of Congress?
He's just making that up in every single survey.
Ukraine does not show up in the top 15.
Now, if you listen carefully, though, because I've had to listen to that clip about 20 times, what he is saying is that that's how we view it.
Oh, now I agree with Mitch McConnell.
Is it the number one priority of Republican senators?
Yes.
That I agree with.
Republican voters?
No, but I mean, voters have no impact on how senators actually act.
Voters are irrelevant.
That is the message they are sending repeatedly.
We are an oligarchy.
We are the Roman Senate.
We hate you.
We think low of you.
We're going to bankrupt you.
Make sure you live in huge inflation.
Keep your borders wide open.
Call you racist and honor a foreigner in a joint session of Congress.
All the while we're stumbling closer to World War III to fight a proxy war against a country that should be partners in the actual fight against the Chinese Communist Party.
Cut 30, Zelensky visited, and Biden says that we need $45 billion more to Zelensky.
Have spent more money on Ukraine in the last year than the combined GDP of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.
Play cut 30.
Here at the White House, we are told during the visit, President Biden will announce a significant new package of security assistance to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression.
So there's going to be a new package.
Look at what the U.S. has already sent, though.
Military aid, $38.2 billion.
Humanitarian aid, $12 billion.
Government aid, $18 billion.
And there is expected to be another $1.8 billion on the way soon just for Patriot missiles.
Then you got the $45 billion additional tucked into the omnibus spending bill that is yet to be approved.
So I'm curious: is there a single member of this audience?
Email mefreedom at charliekirk.com that believes supporting Ukraine is your number one priority.
Can we find a person?
This duplicity, infidelity, and disloyalty to America is unsustainable.
So Zelensky spoke in front of Congress yesterday, looking like he just got out of a gold's gym.
Now, some people are saying, oh, Charlie, come on, don't attack him for wearing military fatigues.
I think it is disrespectful, arrogant, smug, uppity for a foreigner to come into our Congress, say we're not giving you enough money, and you do not even have the respect to go put on a suit and tie.
It is adding insult to injury.
Let's go to this one right here.
Zelensky says, your money is not charity.
It's an investment in global security and democracy.
Oh, you mean the Ukrainian democracy that has banned entire Christian churches?
Did you know that?
Maybe you should contact your senator and say, hey, why are you supporting a country that has banned Orthodox Christianity?
Did you know that?
Play cut 61.
Thank you for boosting financial packages you have already provided us with and the ones you may be willing to decide on.
Your money is not charity, it's an investment in the global security and democracy that we handle in the most responsible way.
Democracy that we handle in the most responsible way.
Do you trust the Ukrainian government?
Republicans certainly do.
Now, all of this would be frustrating at its core if we were not also getting invaded.
We have an unprecedented invasion happening on the U.S. southern border.
Does Border Patrol get a special session of Congress?
Does the fact that thousands of people are pouring into America get any sort of attention?
Cut 23, we are being invaded, but your leaders, they're really fired up, enthusiastic to pass trillions of dollars we don't have.
No, a trillion dollars we don't have.
Let me be specific.
Make sure Zelensky gets paid.
Make sure we have gender-affirming care in the military.
The Michelle Obama trail, the new FBI building.
That is what your Republicans are doing.
Play cut 23.
Dana, it's like out of a Hollywood movie.
You know, here you have National Guardsmen putting up razor wire.
El Paso is a beautiful city.
You've got razor wire there in the airport.
You've got over 500, I was told over 500 migrants sleeping on the floor.
The El Paso School District has provided a couple of buildings that they're not using to house migrants.
The convention center is also being used.
There's talk of using Fort Bliss, which is the Army base there in El Paso.
It's out of a movie.
It's out of an apocalyptic time.
Apocalyptic time.
Oh, so what's happening on our own border in our own country is apocalyptic.
But your leaders believe that Ukraine matters more than you.
All we want is for leaders to love America more than a foreign country.
That's just a very simple ask.
I have here the United States Constitution.
The moral argument made in the U.S. Constitution is that we must value our own territorial and sovereign integrity more than that of a far-off distant land.
Joe Manchin, who's up for re-election, by the way, says, I'm all in.
We got to send more money to Ukraine.
Doesn't matter.
We just got to keep on going.
Play cut 58.
Yeah, that's great.
Senator, do you know how many billions we've sent to Ukraine?
We're going to send a lot more.
Yeah, you want to send more?
Oh, absolutely.
I'm all in.
You're all in?
Yeah.
Yeah, you're all in.
I'm all in.
We're just, we got to accelerate.
There is a psychological explanation for a lot of this.
For wealthy, comfortable white people, they feel this urge that there's something dirty about America.
I spend time around some of these people, not anymore.
I used to.
Aspen, Jackson Hole, San Francisco, that there's something fundamentally unclean about America.
So if we get invaded, it's fine.
But the foreign fixation is what they think can purify our land.
You think I'm kidding?
Manchin, all these people, McConnell, they are far more concerned.
In fact, they're more energized about lands and borders that are not our own.
And that is nothing new.
When a country falls apart, they always look abroad more than they look domestic.
There's no problem here.
It's not like the Goths are invading us.
The end of the year is right around the corner, and it's time for you to consider a change in your investment plan.
This is Charlie Kirk, and I strongly recommend you go right now and see my friends at PAX to review your investments.
They are the one firm I know that focuses on biblical, responsible investing and does not force you to invest in companies that literally attack Christian values.
If we want religious liberty in our country, we have to stop investing in companies that are trying to suppress our freedoms.
I love PAX Financial.
They manage some of my money.
I trust them.
And that's why before the end of the year, you need to text the word Charlie to the number 74868.
That's Charlie to 74868.
And someone with PAX Financial Group will connect you right away.
So take out your phone, text the word Charlie to 74868.
I trust them with my money, and I think you should trust them with your money.
That is the word Charlie to 74868.
They're a great operation.
Check them out today.
The Churchill comparison, they just love it.
Scarborough says that Zelensky is in more danger than Churchill and his family ever were.
Play cut 56.
The parallels really are so extraordinary.
And so many people have looked at Churchill and Zelensky, compared the two positions that they've been in.
It's certainly not an overstatement.
In fact, the Zelenskys, the family, in more danger, most likely, than Churchill and his family ever were.
So yeah, the comparisons are pretty extraordinary.
The comparisons are pretty extraordinary.
That's a separate issue for a different time.
The team is laughing because I say that all the time.
I do not have the patience to handle that one right now, especially a week after, a couple days after Amfest.
We just closed Amfest.
We will handle the Zelensky-Churchill comparison at a later date.
Mind you, it was Churchill.
I can't resist myself.
It is Churchill who is the one that thought it was insane not to partner with Russia to defeat the Nazis.
Just a small factoid there.
Democrat Shaheen, play cut 65.
I think President Zelensky made a compelling case for why supporting Ukraine in this unprovoked war against Russia is good, not just for Ukraine and Europe, but good for America's national security.
National Security At Risk 00:03:21
How?
How is it good for America's national security?
Can anybody email me that freedom at charliekirk.com?
What is the American urgent national security interest of which $100 plus billion dollars, soon to be $150 billion?
Do you think that we could have better spent $150 billion on a U.S.-southern border wall?
For $150 billion, we could have militarized the U.S.-southern border, double border patrol, had drone reconnaissance, and had illegal border crossings go to zero.
But instead, this omnibus bill, there's words for these people.
I'm trying not to use it.
I'll let you fill in the gaps.
Lisa Murkowski from Alaska.
Shelby from Alabama.
Tubberville from Alabama.
Boy, did Tubberville lie to us all.
That's too bad.
Boozman from Arkansas.
Tom Cotton from Arkansas.
Marco Rubio from Florida.
Chuck Grassley from Iowa.
Todd Young from Indiana.
Moran from Kansas.
McConnell from Kentucky.
Oh, there are duplicates on here.
Collins from Maine.
Blunt from Missouri.
Moran.
Okay, we already went through those.
Hyde Smith from Mississippi.
Wicker from Mississippi.
Rob Portman from Ohio.
Lady Graham from South Carolina.
Rounds from South Dakota.
Thune from South Dakota.
Cornyn from Texas.
Romney from Utah.
And Shelley Moore Capito from West Virginia.
Incredible.
In the limited focus that we have at Turning Point Action, we are going to be focused on primaring and removing every single one of these people.
We might be unsuccessful, but we're not going to let this happen.
You vote for this omnibus.
It is a throbbing middle finger to every single one of you.
And they don't care.
If they care, they wouldn't vote this way.
They feel as if they are untouchable by these voters.
The country's going to fall apart if this continues.
And I don't mean economically, which it very well might, or monetarily, which it very well might.
I mean the everyday man is going to be so cynical about their government.
The attitude towards DC will resemble that of Nicaragua.
You talk to somebody from Honduras or Nicaragua, Brazil, or Colombia.
It's very sad when you ask them, you say, hey, you know, how are things in Bogota?
How are things in Caracas in Venezuela?
Their attitude towards their government is so nakedly cynical.
And it's so sad when you hear that.
And that's exactly what's happening here in America.
And then the defiant, repeated narrative from McConnell saying that this is the number one priority.
Your number one priority is Zelensky.
That is your number one priority.
