| Well, Steve, just as Brexit was a victory for grassroots folk standing up against the establishment, what happened in Iowa last night was a huge grassroots MAGA victory. | ||
| You know, if you look at the Republican Party in this state, you'll see that a huge number of people here, local Congress, local senators, even the governor were all behind Ron DeSantis. | ||
| But no, despite the extremely cold weather, despite terrible road conditions, they turned out and voted for Trump. | ||
| And he won nearly every single county bar one in the whole of the state of Iowa. | ||
| So this is a dramatic MAGA victory. | ||
| And you can add to Trump's 51 percent, of course, nearly 8% that Vivek got because he was running as, you know, the younger generation MAGA candidate. | ||
| So I think what you can see is that, you know, whilst the rhinos may have huge power still within the Republican Party around the country, actually, the grassroots messages that Donald Trump has been championing since 2015, are in many ways stronger than ever. | ||
| And you know, perhaps At top of that list ought to be the border. | ||
| That was Trump, wasn't it? | ||
| Running in 16 saying, build a wall. | ||
| We've got to protect our southern border. | ||
| This could do terrible damage to our country. | ||
| And now, many, many years on, I think there are voters right across America can see that this man was right. | ||
| So it's a really, really big win. | ||
| Nikki Haley isn't going to give up. | ||
| She's clearly hoping something might happen for her in New Hampshire. | ||
| But I'm pretty sceptical about that. | ||
| Nigel, but I want to go, you mentioned all the officials and particularly Kim Reynolds before she started this was quite popular. | ||
| That's not going to last given her support of dissenters against President Trump. | ||
| It's the same thing in England. | ||
| I want people to understand that this is a global phenomenon. | ||
| You had these grassroots populist movements, these grassroots nationalist movements, these grassroots sovereignty movements, and no matter how small the rump is of the resistance of the establishment, they're backed by money and they're backed by the media. | ||
| Your assessment, because in the United Kingdom right now, you with the Tories, President Trump with the establishment Republicans, is virtually the same fight on virtually almost the same topics. | ||
| Yes, the fights are very similar indeed and, you know, the official Conservative Party in the United Kingdom is very much in the hands of the big global corporates, very much in the hands of the banks, bows down of course to global media, doesn't like any sort of MSM criticism. | ||
| Yeah, our Conservative Party is totally in the hands of the rhinos and that's why they're failing in the polls, it's why they're heading towards What could be perhaps even a cataclysmic election defeat to Labour at some point later on this year. | ||
| The difference though, Steve, is this. | ||
| That in America, because of the open primary system, you still have a way of fighting back. | ||
| And Iowans showed that last night. | ||
| We in the UK have no such mechanism. | ||
| You know, seeing the caucuses taking place here, I have to say as a Brit, I'm extremely jealous. | ||
| It's easier for your grassroots to have a say than it is for ours. | ||
| Why is that? | ||
| How have they structurally shut you guys out? | ||
| Because you were able to accomplish Birx's, and I realize you had to go to a referendum. | ||
| And look, the MAGA movement back in its infancy took a lot of lessons. | ||
| The Tea Party, when I went and saw you the first time years ago, following you around Middle England, I could see the elements of the Tea Party in what you were doing. | ||
| But later, the MAGA movement and the Trump movement took an awful lot of lessons from you on how to get your sovereignty back. | ||
| What's the resistance to you structurally now? | ||
| Yeah, I mean, look, I was a great grassroots campaigner, Steve. | ||
| And yeah, you know, when you and I first met, I was going around and I was, I used to call myself the Billy Graham of the sovereignty movement. | ||
| You know, I was going out, I was going out and speaking in, you know, village halls and town squares and saying, you know, if you believe in what I'm saying, stand up and join me, you know. | ||
| And I did that for over 20 years. | ||
| As you said, in the end, I managed to win. | ||
| The problem we have is that to get back control of our Conservative Party, the only people who make that decision effectively are the members of Parliament. | ||
| And that's where the rhinos, the British rhinos, are in the ascendancy. | ||
| If we had caucuses, if we had open caucuses for where the Conservative movement in Britain was going, let me tell you, This guy, Rishi Sunak, would not be our Prime Minister. | ||
| He would not be leading the Conservative Party. | ||
| And some would say that maybe even I would be in with a chance. | ||
| So, you know, for us, it is very, very difficult. | ||
| We have to hope that out of the ashes of an election defeat and with reform coming up on the wings and gaining a number of votes, we have to hope that we can take back control of a Conservative Party after they've lost. | ||
| But, you know, This system of open primaries is what gave you Donald Trump in the first place. | ||
| It's what enabled you to get rid at the top of the country club. | ||
| Republicans, the problem is they're still very powerful. | ||
| It's still a huge fight. | ||
| But what I always showed you last night is you're going to win. | ||
| Trump is going to be the nominee. | ||
| And I think, hey, you know what? | ||
| He's going to be the 47th president. | ||
| I feel it very, very strongly. | ||
| Nigel, you've got pretty good instincts in my years of knowing you. | ||
| Could you give a warning to folks, particularly after Brexit came in, the globalists still, you know, Brexit still today has not been implemented like it should have been implemented. | ||
| They always looked at the British establishment, Boris Johnson's guys, always looked at it as a problem to be solved instead of an opportunity to be grasped. | ||
| What warning do you have to the American people to our grassroots movement that support President Trump about the globalists in Davos, the city of London, Wall Street? | ||
| What can what should we be on the watch for? | ||
| Well, I think, you know, if you look back at that four years that Trump had as president and he succeeded in many things, some great moves on the economy, some phenomenal moves, I thought, in areas of foreign policy, the one thing he was never able to do Yes, of course you've got Wall Street, Davos, and these people will always fight for the big global corporates. | ||
| They're against the ordinary man and woman setting up their own business, doing their own thing. | ||
| The other huge battle that Trump is going to face in a second term as president is the administrative state and the sheer power of that state. | ||
| And to win and to start the fight back against that, he's going to need to have Congress absolutely behind him with the right people being elected, because it's going to be one hell of a fight. | ||
| Last thing, Nigel, because you've been at the forefront of this. | ||
| Zelensky's in Davos today saying that Europe's got to be combat ready. | ||
| They're trying to do with the Federal Reserve and the Treasury, take the Russian bonds that have been in American banks that we've frozen, but to actually convert them into cash, give it to the Ukrainians, like three to five hundred billion dollars, because they understand the populist movement here, the MAGA movement here, doesn't want one more penny to Ukraine. | ||
| What warning or observation do you have on the situation there? | ||
| Look, I think, you know, we've been told from the very start that if we back Ukraine, Ukraine will win. | ||
| It's perfectly clear that Ukraine is not winning. | ||
| But if I can give you a slightly more European perspective on it, Steve, you know, remember that countries like Poland are genuinely very, very scared of Putin, rightly or wrongly. | ||
| I do understand that President Macron has invited Putin to go to the 80th D-Day remembrances that will take place this June. | ||
| And I would just say this. | ||
| The one thing that needs to happen and happen quickly is there need to be negotiations. | ||
| You know, no war ends well without a peaceful negotiation of some kind. | ||
| We need to have negotiations, but don't underestimate the fear that the Poles, Latvians and the Lithuanians have. | ||
| Trouble is, the more money we give to Zelensky, the more we know is going to get swallowed up in fraud. | ||
