Look, I think we just have to face the facts of what happened. | |

| That's the thing that bothers me most about the sort of attitude that seems to be emerging to some degree in American politics. | ||

| Showing that your vote can make a difference, can change history, can make representation matter. | ||
| At the same time, a president, a man and his cronies, drunk with power and intent on keeping the spigot of that power open, plotted and used the frustrations, ignorance, fear, anger, bigotry of many as a fire hose to push away the election results | ||
| And there's one ABC News poll that came out recently that says just 20% of the American public across party lines is confident that our election system is a good one. | ||
| Confident in our election system. | ||
| That's an extraordinarily small number. | ||
| There's still some tinkering going on with the inaugural address, but his aides have made really clear it's not like he's trying to ignore or paper over either what happened at the Capitol two weeks ago or what we've been through throughout four years of the Trump presidency. | ||
| And the contrast on display tonight was so stark. | ||
| I mean, those lights that are just shooting out from the Lincoln Memorial along the reflecting pool, I look, it's like almost extensions of Joe Biden's arms embracing America. | ||
| It was a moment where the new president came to town and sort of convened the country in this moment of remembrance, outstretching his arms. | ||
| I do want to ask though, you know, former President Trump was supposed to have a press He didn't do it, but Steve Bannon is doing it in his place. | ||
| Mark Meadows and Steve Bannon have been held in contempt, but Steve Bannon is out there continuing to push the big lie day in and day out. | ||
| It's frustrating for the American people. | ||
| Well, it is frustrating. | ||
| And of course, more than frustrating, it's dangerous that these people continue pushing that big lie. | ||
| And no more destructive than the big liar himself, Donald Trump. | ||
| Still out there, even if he was silent this morning. | ||
| We'll be soon back issuing false statement after false statement. | ||
| I was glad Joe Biden called him out today. | ||
| I was glad that he was as forceful as he was. | ||
| We can't mince words about the danger to our democracy. | ||
| And that danger is posed by that former president and the lies that he is spewing. | ||
| So I think we saw a very powerful address by Joe Biden today. | ||
| I think it was heartening to hear that vigorous defense of democracy. | ||
| And we all ought to view this day as a day of awakening. | ||

| Since he watched some of the things that came off the hard drive from hell, since he was a hunter, he saw the fire there. | ||

| Okay, some would say where was this before? I talked to somebody in the White House who said you know everything has a time and place and that this was the most powerful place to finally push back on a year of the former president's lies. | ||
| But I think it sort of gets to something else that President Biden also underestimated, like the rest of us. | ||

| I think, you know, this to me sounded like a speech that President Biden has been wanting to give for quite some time. | ||
| He had a lot pent up there that he outlined, and it was one of his most forceful speeches of his entire presidency. | ||
| And part of what the White House and the president, their calculation is, is that it's more powerful when he doesn't speak about this on a regular basis, when he's not constantly talking about his predecessor and what happened on January 6th. To him, this is something that when he comes out and he makes a statement like this, the hope is that people will sit up and listen because it's not the same noise they've been hearing from him all year long. Now the question going forward really is, did anybody listen? | ||
| You know, you see some of the polling that's out there in terms of what Americans' views of whether or not this was a legitimate election, and things aren't necessarily trending in his favor, and so did he turn anybody around? | ||
| Did he just speak to people who already believed everything that he was saying, or did he actually manage to reach some folks who might have thought otherwise and listened to his speech? | ||
| That's a real open question, but his calculation and the way that he's played this is that It's more powerful for him to say things like this when he's not saying them all the time. | ||

| Why is this guy Ray Epps running around the US Capitol encouraging an incursion every 35 minutes, it seems like, the entire day leading up to it, and yet they're not asking any questions about that guy? | ||
| So instead of dealing with real problems and having a real investigation into some of the things that happened on J6, we're now focused on this ridiculous distraction where the media... You know, you remember Baghdad, Bob, Steve? | ||
| You remember this guy standing up there, the tanks are rolling into Baghdad? | ||
| He's like, we're winning the war, right? | ||

| It's like 9th or 10th, because inflation's first, jobs are second, the economy's third, COVID, and school masks. | ||

| Who gets slammed when energy prices go up? | ||
| Manufacturing, transportation logistics, truck drivers. | ||
| The Democrats are engineering an economy before our eyes that benefits their big tech allies and crushes middle-class Ohioans and nobody on their side is willing to just stare the problem in the face. | ||

| And what these corporations have done to working class people, because obviously you wrote Hillbilly Elegies, you're a Marine, you went to Yale, you wrote this incredible best-selling book, and you gave a throwdown to where you stand and where you would stand in the United States Senate against the corporate oligarchs. | ||
| And then, shortly thereafter, is it Club for Growth? | ||
| Club for Growth came after you with a vengeance. | ||
| First off, who is Club for Growth? | ||
| Why are they sticking their nose in an Ohio primary? | ||
| And why are they going after you in particular? | ||
| Yeah, look, I mean, my whole thing, Steve, is that we have to stop letting the combination of our corporate oligarchy and our big government take advantage of us, right? | ||
| you know, in 1943, we would not let General Electric or General Motors make airplane engines for Hitler's Nazi Germany. | ||
| And yet right now, the biggest corporations in this country are working with the Communist Chinese Party to plunder America's industrial base, to destroy the American middle class. | ||
| And at the same time, they're using technology developed in this country to censor anybody, whether it's Marjorie Taylor Greene, Donald Trump, whoever else, who dares to speak up Now that, to me, is the battle. | ||

| We have to stop giving corporate tax cuts to companies that literally hate us, that ship American jobs overseas, and censor middle class conservatives. | ||
| We should be cutting the taxes of businesses creating jobs here in this country. | ||
| Now, you, I guarantee it, pay a higher tax rate than Google. | ||
| Middle-class Ohio manufacturer pays a higher tax rate than Amazon. | ||
| That is bogus. | ||
| It doesn't make sense, especially when these companies are working to destroy the traditional American nation. | ||
| Now, Club for Growth doesn't like that, right? | ||
| Now, granted, I gave them some ammunition because I, as you know, I was not an early Trump guy. | ||
| Trump convinced me because he was a great president and a great leader for this country. | ||
| So the same group club for growth. I think it's pretty impressive because you saw Trump in action. You didn't support him. That's very obvious. And he said some things about him. But hey, that was years ago. | ||
| And then we saw him in action because I remember you came and saw me quite early. That's right. | ||
| And we went through the policies and you know, you're a guy that's pretty reflective. And then you went all in for Trump very early. Absolutely. | ||
| Absolutely. | ||
| And you're very close to a guy, Peter Thiel, who's one of the closest guys we had, quite frankly, in 16. | ||
| Very difficult for us to win without Peter. | ||
| Peter sent Blake Masters and the team up to help. | ||
| If Peter had had runway, and if we had had enough muscle in 16, which we didn't, Fauci and Collins wouldn't have been there. | ||
| He wanted to take on the entire... The administrative state was his baby. | ||
| That's what they wanted to do. | ||
| That's absolutely right. | ||
| And the same policies that I have put forward, tariffs on China so that we can bring more American manufacturing back to this country, employ a lot of middle-class workers, those are the same policies the Club for Growth opposed during Donald Trump's presidencies. | ||
| It's also why they spent $11 million against Donald Trump in 2016. | ||
| So they're spending millions of dollars. | ||
| If you live in Ohio and you've seen an attack ad against me for what I said five or six years ago, it is being paid. | ||
| I call them the Club for Chinese Growth because they care about China more than they care about the United States. | ||
| It's being paid for by the same organization that tried to take down Donald Trump in 2016. | ||
| And the reason is because I actually agree with him on the policies and I'm actually going to fight for those policies when I'm elected to the U.S. | ||
| Senate for the people of Ohio. | ||
| I am done letting this country be taken advantage of By corporations and government bureaucrats who have gained wealth and power at the expense of traditional Americans. | ||
| I'm sick of it. | ||
| And our public policy has to wake the hell up to the fact that the very countries that have benefited, excuse me, the very companies that have benefited from this country are now tearing it down because they think they can make a quick buck in China. | ||
| By the way, they all back the Democrats. | ||
| So tell me, Mitch McConnell is at least the leader now. | ||
| Walk me through, in Mitch McConnell's U.S. | ||
| Senate, how are you going to do that? | ||
| Look, man, it's hard because it's not just the leadership of this party. | ||
| You know this as well as anybody. | ||
| It is the membership up and down, and it's not even just in the Congress. | ||
| The thing that I've realized about D.C. | ||
| in the last few years, I would not have known, you probably appreciate this, is that so much of the public policy in this country On the right, by Republicans, is made by people who hate Republican voters. | ||
| So most congressmen, most senators don't know what they're doing, right? | ||
| So they get their talking points from lobbyists and from think tanks that push an actively globalist agenda on this country. | ||
| And I've had crazy experiences like a couple months ago. | ||
| I'll tell you a story. | ||
| A couple months ago, I encouraged Senate Republicans to shut down the government to fight against Biden's vaccine mandates. | ||
| I think I was the first person to say that. | ||
| A bunch of people came along. | ||
| I got a call from a U.S. | ||
| Senator that I've never spoken to before in my life. | ||
| He asked me for 10 minutes what it would look like, the political ups and downs. | ||
| I was like, you really need to do this. | ||
| And at the end of the call, he said, you know what? | ||
| I don't think I'm going to do it. | ||
| Oh, by the way, please don't tell leadership we had this call. | ||
| If we've got members who are too cowardly to stand up for their own voters, we're going to have serious problems. | ||
| That's why I'm running. | ||
| I don't want to be, and I'm not going to be, that kind of a member. | ||
| I'm not going to be that kind of leader for our country. | ||
| So Josh Hawley's endorsed you, and Josh is probably also another one I would call the public intellectual populist. | ||
| But walk us through how you got Mitch McConnell's all about the donors. | ||
| He represents the donors, not the Republican that particularly the new Republican Party that's coming together and people that would be attracted to what you're saying, right? | ||
| Old independents are working class Democrats that can't go along with the cultural Marxism. | ||
| of the modern democratic party right i can i come from a family that hard core trumpeter because i was a they're not gonna put up with this nonsense about this cultural marxism so what what are you and holly gonna do one out of look one out of a hundred senators obviously you're just one out of a hundred but i think that if we get five ten legitimately good guys you know blake masters is running arizona always a great guy who got a couple of his incentive you don't need thirty excellent republican senators you probably need five or ten | ||

| I don't think you can do it with just one. | ||
| But think about just the big tech issue, man. | ||
| Think about where we were on the big tech question in the Republican Party. | ||
| We were basically in bed with them five years ago. | ||
| Hawley, by himself, has basically shifted us in a pro-direction. | ||
| You know, you get a few more guys who are really fighting for their actual voters. | ||
| Can you do this with Mitch McConnell as the leader? | ||
| And are you prepared? | ||
| My thesis is, no one's going to win the Republican primary in Ohio that's prepared to back Mitch McConnell. | ||
| We had Kennedy on the other day, who would not answer the question directly, but that's fine. | ||
| I get that all the time. | ||

| I don't want to mention any names. | ||
| Would you vote, if you're elected, would you vote for Mitch McConnell for leader? | ||
| Look, man, I've been the only person in the Ohio Senate race who's actually been willing to criticize leadership, and I just did, you know, and I'll continue to criticize leadership when I think that they're wrong, but I do think we've got a ground-up problem as much as we got a top-down problem. | ||

| Unless you fix the membership, and it doesn't matter if it's Mitch McConnell, it doesn't matter if it's Mitt Romney, it doesn't matter if it's Josh Hawley, who's the leader of the U.S. | ||
| Senate, if you've got guys calling a Senate candidate in Ohio saying, I want to do something but I'm not going to do it because I'm too afraid of leadership, you're not going to fix the problem. | ||
| I think it's a membership problem as much as it's a leadership problem. | ||
| How do you get people over, one of the comments I hear a lot is that, hey, I like the cut of this guy's job, I like the fact of his service, I like he's smart, he's written, I love what he says. | ||
| I love the speeches. | ||
| But are we setting ourselves up for another Ben Sasse? | ||
| Is this a guy that people loved Sasse when he ran? | ||
| I mean, I was a Breitbart, you know, Charlie Hurt myself. | ||
| He was a drudge at the time. | ||
| We were all for Sasse and then we saw his true colors. | ||
| How do you convince people, hey, I'm really J.D. | ||
| Vance, that guy from Hillbilly Elegies. | ||
| I'm not a guy, I'm not really a Ben Sasse in the making. | ||
| I'm going to say one thing and I'm going to get here and turn the other way. | ||
| Yeah, I mean, I think you've got to judge people by their friends, but also by their enemies. | ||
| So I've got some good endorsers, and I think we're going to have some really good ones coming down the pike in the next couple of months, too. | ||
| But look, the media never hated Ben Sasse in the way that they hate me, right? | ||
| Like, I think of all the candidates, if I can be so bold, man... Because you think they're afraid of what you'll do? | ||

| It's the greatest time ever, everybody. | ||
