Thank you very much.
Are you optimistic today?
That is the bannon of it all.
He's claiming to take down an administration while walking into court because he has no other choice.
You see there the fusion of bravado and broadcasting that blurs any sense of which part of this is real and which part is another piece of show.
Now that is deliberate.
That's why he and Donald Trump vibed so much on the campaign trail.
But that's not the end of the story tonight.
We give you all the facts.
We will show his perspective like we would in any trial, but look inside the courtroom.
These are the new sketches where Bannon sat quietly with his lawyers.
He was there, captured in his trademark double-popped collar and a brown jacket.
He took, reportedly, some notes, as if this were a serious process, not the noise that he claimed it to be outside.
He was subjected to the standard swearing-in before the federal judge.
And the other difference that hangs over Bannon is this time, He will be judged through a system that is not overseen by the president he helped elect.
Obama is not just another MAGA figure in a long line of loud people.
He chaired the general election campaign that Trump won.
He is the guy who landed the plane, who won the electoral college, who got the promotion to chief strategist in the White House where he pushed policy, leading his specific list of goals that were Put up on his famous whiteboard, which could be seen in those photos there when he would meet with people.
Immigration crackdowns, repealing Obamacare.
The board behind him was his public promise to perpetual fights.
The third, broadly, line of work is what is deconstruction of the administrative state.
If you think they're going to give you your country back without a fight, you are sadly mistaken.
Every day, every day it is going to be a fight.
It's always a fight with him.
But this matters beyond the character.
There are some who try to reduce Steve Bannon to a character or a caricature.
And that actually weirdly feeds partly into his own narrative.
But the history is more complicated.
It speaks to this clash tonight and why it matters.
Bannon has always looked for these fights.
It is not merely a public act.
It actually informs his approach to campaigning and governing and leading his claimed movement, which if you haven't noticed, even though they lost the last election, is a part of our national life.
It is a view that there must always be powerful enemies to fight.
That the system itself is broken.
It cannot be reformed.
It must be, as he just said, deconstructed.
It's why Bannon spent his first weeks in power, and thus Trump's first weeks in power, leading charges that often failed as a matter of governance, like a travel ban that was ultimately pared back.
At that time, in 2017, Bannon was a smart guy, deliberately leading the government into basically breaking the law.
A travel ban that he rammed through Rushed and unchecked was then struck down by the courts.
Well, now Bannon continues this type of project.
He lives his own life with a spurt of bravado and risk-taking.
Do you see any evidence that Mr. Bannon has picked a fight he can't win?
I think, Ari, that the danger of what has happened to Nick's point is that you kind of are witnessing the beginning of the canonization of Steve Bannon among The MAGA crowd that, you know, that Steve Bannon, we all forget, has a background in Hollywood.
He is now basically producing, writing, directing, and starring in his own movie, which he has total control of.
And I think you're going to see, you know, scenes right out of the Roger Stone playbook.
There's not going to be a court appearance, a moment in public where he's not going to be delivering rhetoric, rallying the war cry to Yeah.
millions of people who follow him. He's basically resurrecting himself, even if he goes to jail, probably, especially if he goes to jail, as the leader of the populist right. He's putting himself back.
He's doing it for the people. He's doing it for the people.

The headline halfway through the piece on the New York Times report on this says, China counts the meeting as a win, achieved without any compromise.

Not on trade, not on climate, not on Taiwan, not on nothing.
Biden took one of the biggest, and he's taken a lot of L's in his time, He took one of the biggest L's in his lifetime last night.
This is just an extraordinary development.
And it's very clear to see.

Now they're seeing their cities completely overrun, our country overrun.
And the saddest part is talking to some of the landowners.
Jennifer Ivey, you know, they've got acres and acres of farmers down here and she says she doesn't know what to do.
She says she feels completely alone.
The cartel can come in at any point in the night and take her, take her children, do whatever they want because there's no defense now at this point.
The wall is working.
The wall that we the people built, this wall behind you that you see behind me, was built by we the people when the government said it can't be done.

Well, I've just been sitting here going through more of Elaine Luria's investments, actually.
I mean, it turns out that she's got a heftier, quite a hefty amount invested in companies that don't really necessarily do the right thing by the American public. A lot of social media investments, Facebook, Snap, all the rest, including the Alibaba stuff as well. So we're going through those on everybody, Steve, especially everybody on this, you know, phony January 6th commission. But I think the yield on this kind of thing so far has been so high over just a
couple of days that it's impossible for us not to switch focus to this almost totally.
You see, I know we wanted to talk at the top of the show about the people who are not running next time around because, hey, listen, I think there are nine now Democrats in Congress who have said they're not stepping down.
There's, I think, a dozen who are saying they're going to run for other offices instead.
You mentioned a senator as well up there in Vermont saying they're not going to run.
These people are terrified.
They're terrified because of several things here.
Signal, not noise.
Number one, look at what we saw last night from this regime in the China summit, right?
Number two, look at how long it took to get this infrastructure plan through, and look at what this infrastructure plan actually is.
A hell of a hard sell out there in real America, and that's what these people don't want to have to do over the next 12 months.

They make these disclosures every year.
And we, Natalie Winters, her favorite thing is to go through these people's financial disclosures.
And the report from just this year, from August, shows Elaine Luria making, having an asset of between $250,000 and $500,000 value in Alibaba Group holding shares.
That is a Chinese Communist Party tool, not in our words, but in the words of the United States State Department.
The State Department has actually flagged it as quote a tool aiding in building up the Chinese Communist Party's quote technologically facilitated surveillance and social control.
The report goes on it says significantly the modern China model is built upon a foundation of technology facilitated surveillance and social control.
These techniques for ruling China have been and continue to be in critical ways developed built and maintained on behalf of the Party, state, by technology firms such as Huawei, Tencent, ZTE, Alibaba and Baidu.
As these companies export their products and services to the rest of the world, the security and human rights problems associated with this China model are progressively exported with them.
That is the State Department's own ruling on this company, Alibaba.
And this is the company that a so-called national security-focused congresswoman, those are her words, she calls herself a national security-focused congresswoman, is invested in.
That's why you need to light those phones up today, ladies and gentlemen.
She needs to divest from this stock.

See, I just want to touch on this Wisconsin report.
This is the first interim report coming out of the Special Council in Wisconsin looking at election integrity.
And it's about 25 pages long.
I went through it all and there are some very, very interesting things in here.
There is obviously a focus on outside groups, what they call private groups.
Funding election processes.
Now Phil Klein, the great Phil Klein and the Amistad Project and those guys brought this to our attention months before the election of last year and told us that this was happening.
This report now dives deep into where this money was used, how it was deployed, but specifically the most interesting part of this report comes at page 20.
If you guys go out there and you get this report, go to page 20 and look at the section that says exploitation of elders.
This is something that the special counsel here has dived very deeply into and seems extremely concerned with.
Quote, this office continues to review the issues involving WEC more generally, as well as other plain rules that are apparently without remedy in Wisconsin law, such as the editing of ballot applications by clerks and voting procedures at nursing homes.
A recent investigation and report by the Racine County Sheriff's Office highlighted the exploitation of some of our most vulnerable citizens.
Complaints were apparently made to WEC and ignored in a system which the Sheriff described as leading to our election system being not just broken but shattered.
I believe many Wisconsinites share the Sheriff's statement is my hope a continued investigation and final report from this office will help change those perspectives and sentiments.
It's very clear here that what they're alluding to is nursing homes, residential care, staff and employees going in and either manipulating and perhaps even worse I don't even want, you know, I'm not going to put any words in these people's mouths, but perhaps even worse, to elderly citizens, the most vulnerable in society, to exploit those ballots and make sure those ballots came out the way that certain people wanted them to.
It's a bombshell report.
