TruthRadioShow.com And welcome to the Dan Bedonin Show on TruthRadioShow.com And welcome to the book of 1 Corinthians We are now on to chapter 9.
So guys we do a specific Bible study approach like always.
Number one is to pray for wisdom and understanding.
So let's do that right now.
So Heavenly Father we come before you and we ask you Jesus Yeshua to forgive us of our sins that we individually committed and we pray for your forgiveness.
And Father, we ask you for this divine wisdom and understanding of your word today.
And in this case, the book of 1 Corinthians chapter 9.
And we ask you to rain upon our heart with the Holy Spirit and protect us all from the forces of evil.
And protect this platform and comfort everybody that needs comforting.
And we love you so much, Father.
In your mighty name we pray.
Amen.
So guys, if you've got a Bible, please open it up.
We are at 1 Corinthians chapter 9, and we're zooming through, which, this is an awesome book.
Paul's letter to the Corinthians, the church of Corinthians.
So, now this is Paul, after, you know, the last chapter we left off.
Paul just asking a bunch of questions and like always just like trying to bring the church of Corinthians back together because there's a major division going on.
Much like today, there's a huge division in the church we call followers of Jesus.
There's a lot of division going on.
We're trying to bring unity back as Paul did with Corinthians.
So Paul starts saying, am I not an apostle of God?
Jesus.
Yes, he's asking these questions.
He's telling the people, am I not an apostle?
Am I not free?
Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord?
And yet you mock, I mean, you, um, you might have made words make, uh, work the Lord.
So let me rephrase that one more time, guys.
And I apologize.
It's been a couple weeks since I've done one of these videos here because I'm, you know, I was sick for a little bit.
So thank you all for the prayers and everything else.
So hopefully I'm healthy again here.
So one more time, let's start off again.
So a little rush.
So I apologize.
So Paul is saying, am I not an apostle?
He's asking.
Of course he's an apostle, but he's just some of these people.
Am I not an apostle?
Am I not free?
Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord?
Which we know he has.
Are not ye my work in the Lord?
So he's asking these people.
He's saying, what do I have to do to validate who I am?
If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you.
For the seal of mine apostleships are in you and the Lord.
So my answer to them is to examine me is this.
So people who want to examine him are saying, if you want to examine me, he's saying go for it.
Because he's here to preach the gospel, like Jesus commanded him to do, and that's exactly what he's doing.
And the cool thing about Paul here, as we learned in the chapter, Paul He became a Jew basically to witness to the Jews.
He became a Gentile to witness to the Gentiles.
So we always have this big debate with the Jews and Gentiles and everything else, right?
The thing with Paul, like Jesus, they were able to reach out to both sides of the fence.
Because the Gentiles obviously they didn't have the law growing up, the Jews did.
The Jews had the law, but they didn't believe in Jesus.
Now, like a lot of Gentiles, they didn't have the law, but they believe in Jesus.
A lot of them do, right?
So he's trying to bring them both together, and all of us, it's one.
It's one common thing.
So, and he goes, my answer to them that do examine me is this.
So if you want to examine me, say, this is my answer to you.
We'll just challenge him, whatever the case, to prove that he's legit.
Have we not power to eat and drink?
Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as apostles?
You know, in other words, have we not power to lead people?
And as a brethren of the Lord, in Cepheus?
Or I, only in Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
So remember, Paul in Barnabas is here at the Church of Corinth.
Right?
So... Who goes in a warfare at any time in his own charges?
So basically, he's asking, who goes to war just because he wants to go to war?
Who plants a vineyard and doesn't eat of his own fruit?
Who does that?
You know, who creates a farm and just doesn't eat their own food?
Who feeds a flock and eats not the milk of the flock?
Which is cows and everything else.
Who, you know, grows cows and all these animals and doesn't eat of them?
Or drink the milk of them?
Which he's using for example here to show, yeah, I am an apostle authorized by Jesus.
Say I these things as a man, or say not the law, the same also.
And for it is written, right?
Then, you know, when he said for it is written, referring to the Old Testament, the Torah, In the law of Moses, thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of an ox that treadeth out the corner.
Does God take care of the four oxen?
So, because the law that you're not supposed to muzzle, because a lot of farmers, they muzzle the animal so the animal doesn't eat the food when it's pulling the plowshares or whatever the case, right?
And the law was not to do that, so the animal himself could eat as well, because God takes care of the oxen as well, right?
Grows the food in the ground, he's saying that, you know, to take care of us, to feed us, right?
But also, it was against that law to muzzle the oxen, because that food was for them as well.
Well it says, he ate it all together for our sakes.
For our sakes, no doubt, this is written.
That the ploweth should not plow in hope, and that he that dareth in hope should be partaker of his hope?
So yeah, this is Paul just asking these questions and getting people's attention.
So if we have sown unto you spiritual things, it is a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things.
So if you got someone on spiritual things, right?
It's great to reap these spiritual carnal things, right?
And if others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather?
Nevertheless, we have not used this power, but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of grace.
So, and again, he clarifies more, so... So if you, others be partakers of the power over you, right?
Somebody has power over you, are not with rather, but nevertheless we should not use this power, but suffer all things, accept all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
And do ye not know that which minister about holy things live in the things of the temple?
So, things that minister of holy things live in the temple, right?
And they which wait at the altar are partakers of the altar.
With question marks, right?
So, just getting people's attention, yeah?
And when Paul does this, he's like being very serious now.
So even so, has the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live in the gospel, of the gospel?
So yeah, the people that the Lord ordains to preach the gospel, you should live by example.
Absolutely.
But I have used none of these things, he's saying.
Neither have I written these things, that it should be done so unto me.
So Paul's just, right now Paul's just trying to show these people, listen, I am nobody special.
I am a servant just like you.
And just like me right here reading this to you guys out here.
I'm a servant as well.
I'm nobody special.
Right?
So Paul's telling the people the same thing.
Because I haven't written these things, whatever, I, yeah.
I'm just a servant.
For it would be better for me to die than any man should make my glory in void.
Like, Paul's not seeking glorification.
I mean, he's just here to preach the word.
For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of.
He's saying, I don't want glory.
I'm here to preach the gospel, that's it.
Don't glorify me, don't praise me, or anything like that.
I just like, I tell people all the time, too.
I'm just a messenger, just like Paul here, right?
But Paul's saying, yeah, even though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of.
For necessity is laid upon me, yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel.
And there's that word, woe.
So when you hear the word woe in the Bible, it's something to really pay attention to, because that's when the person's serious, right?
Very serious.
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward.
But if it's against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
So, you know, people like myself, right?
Who try my best to preach the Word of God, right?
I'm doing this willingly.
I'm not getting paid for it.
I'm not on a tight time schedule.
As you all have seen, I was out for the last couple weeks or so.
Because I was sick, whatever the case, right?
I do this willingly.
And the reward is great.
The reward is bringing people to Christ, helping explain the Word of God the best to my knowledge with the Holy Spirit.
But if I one day, you know, there's been times, yeah, you know, work schedule and all that.
I go to record one of these shows, right?
And at the time, I'm like, oh, not that I don't want to read the Bible, no.
It's just a heavy work schedule and all that.
Like, oh, I just gotta get this done because I'm tired, you know what I mean?
That's when I stop.
Because I try to do it, and not even halfway through, I mess up badly.
And I'm like, you know, I'm not into this right now.
Forgive me, Lord.
And, you know, I stop the recording, and I don't pursue it.
Because I want to do this willingly.
Not as a burden, because the Word of God is certainly not a burden.
And that's why the Lord created the seventh day for us to rest.
You know what I mean?
That's a good thing.
So anyway, Paul's saying, I do this willingly.
I have a reward.
But against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
So what is my reward then?
Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel, In plain and simple, that's clearly said.
So, Paul again, he's trying to reach out to everybody.
He's saying, listen, I am nobody to praise or look up to, whatever the case.
I'm just here as a servant.
That's all I am.
I'm not asking to be exalted, rewarded, or anything like that.
I'm just a servant, that's all I am.
And unto the Jews I became a Jew, as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews to them that are under the law.
As under the law, that I may gain them that are under the law.
but to them that are not without the law, I'm sorry, as without law, not being with the law to God, but under the law to Christ, that I may gain them that are without law.
So this is Paul saying that he became a servant to the Jews, became a servant to these people, the Gentiles, to get the gospel of Christ out, you know?
Now, like I said earlier too, yeah, the Jews grew up with the law, but yeah, they didn't believe in Jesus as the Messiah.
But, the Gentiles, who did come around to believe Jesus as the Messiah, they didn't have the law growing up.
So, Paul here, like Jesus, meet in the middle of both groups and say, alright, we gotta all come together under Jesus.
And to the weak became as I is weak.
And to the might gain the weak.
If you understand what they're saying, right?
So when he came to the weak, he became as the weak.
That I might gain the weak.
That he might gain these people to follow.
Well, follow the word of God, right?
I am made all things unto all men.
That I might, by all means, save some.
And he is not saying he created anything.
Whatever you say, I am made all things to all men.
In other words, I will become servants to all men, no matter what work or life you are, what situation you're in, so that he might gain some people.
And gain some is basically turning you into a follower of Jesus Christ, in the gospel.
Not follower of Paul, no, as he clearly said, a follower of Jesus Christ.
And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof within you.
So Paul, this is showing pure humbleness.
For Paul to humble himself before the Jews, humble himself before the Gentiles, and any other group out there.
This way he could be a bright and shining light to bring the gospel to them.
Know ye not that which run in the race, But one receives the prize, so one that you may obtain.
So, when people say, you know, you people running the race, right?
The goal is to win the gold medal.
Plain and simple, right?
You want to be number one.
When you run a race, you want to win the race.
Plain and simple.
For you or the team, whatever the case, the goal is to win the race.
So run that you may obtain it.
In this case here, the race for the gospel, and the prize is the glory of Jesus Christ.
And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things.
So again, if any man strives for mastery, he's temperate in all things.
So basically, if you strive to be master of things, right?
You've got to be temperate in all things.
Like when you try to master things, you become a jack of all trades.
Master of none really, but a jack of all trades.
But now... I think that's what he's trying to say, yeah.
I could be wrong.
But now, they do it to obtain corruptible crown.
But we are incorruptible.
So he's saying people, basically... You know, when they run a race, right?
They want to obtain a gold medal, whatever the case, which is... It's a corruptible crown.
But we are incorruptible.
We do it for the glory of God, not our glory.
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly so fight I, not as one beats the other, but I keep under my body.
And by the way, guys, he's using this as an example.
He's not saying he's actually running races.
This is an example, okay, he's using to show that, yeah, the race, running race for the glory.
He's not running, uh, marathons or anything like that.
He's, uh, you know, Olympic races.
He's just saying it in general, you know?
So, I therefore, so one, not as of certainly, so fight I, not as one beateth the air, but I keep unto my body, and bring it into subjection, lest at any means, by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a Catholic.
Running the race for the Lord is bringing the gospel to people.
And, uh, beateth the air, um, that's addicted to somebody celebrating.
Like, when you win a race, you're, like, pumping your fists in the air.
Things like that.
I assume that's what he talked about.
But he says, I keep under my body and bring it into subjection.
Otherwise, I think he's saying, stay humble here, right?
Lest that, by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
So when you preach to people, right?
Don't act like you're better than anybody else.
That's what I'm getting at.
Don't act like you're better than anybody else.
Be a castaway yourself.
Because all of us are castaways, you know what I mean?
Rejects, or whatever you want to call ourselves, right?
And we all need to come to the Lord.
And even though we are part of the Lord now, we're part of the remnant, and adopted children of God, we still must act like a castaway, not act like holier-than-thou-art, like a lot of self-righteous people do.
Preach to others, and show that, hey, listen, I'm just an average person, I'm a normal person like you, I'm nobody special.
That's the attitude you should have, that's what Paul's trying to say here.
Addressing the crowd because remember him and Barnabas that very looked up to over here at the Church of Corinth and Paul's just trying to humble him keep himself humble in Barnabas.
Hey, listen guys.
We are nobody special I mean how to preach the Word of God plain and simple And if guys got any questions comments or anything like that, please put it in the comment section and Uh, not the live chat, but the comment section and I'll get back to you.
So, um, again, I apologize for not being around for, um...
A few weeks here, and I know it's not going to matter next year when people watch us, you know, sometime in the future, but I was out for a few weeks because I had a minor stroke.
Yeah, like minor stroke symptoms, whatever it was.
They still didn't give me a straight answer, but yeah, I'm back here.
So I'm going to be bringing these broadcasts more often.
So anyways, don't take my word for it, or anybody else's word for it, read it for yourself.
And sorry to sound redundant with the slides, guys, but these are the things we must always remember, which I forgot to do after the prayer is And it shows my rust on the end because I haven't done this in a few weeks.
So, uh, read the scripture in context.
Very important to do because context is key and let the scripture interpret scripture.
And like we did in past videos, guys, if you don't know what a word means or anything like that, go look it up.
There's no shame in doing it.
