TruthRadioShow.com And welcome everybody to the Dampy Darden Show at TruthRadioShow.com And welcome to the Gospel of John, Chapter 18.
If you missed chapters 1 through 17, they're in the playlist there, or on TruthRadioShow.com.
So we're doing an in-depth, comprehensive study of the book of John.
And we also did the complete book of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, chapter by chapter.
So we don't just read through the Bible, we examine the Bible.
So, what we're going to do is cover chapter 18 of John today.
And where we left off, chapter 17, I just want to remind people.
This was, chapter 15, 16 is Jesus giving final instructions to the apostles as Judas Iscariot is on his way to sell out Jesus.
And chapter 17 was a prayer from him to the Father, directly.
Now we move on to chapter 18 before we do that.
We'd like to do, guys, before we get the show started, we'd like to pray for wisdom and understanding.
This is our Bible study approach.
So, Jesus, yes, your Messiah, we come before you and ask you to forgive us all of our individual sins and trespasses.
And we ask you, Lord, to just forgive us and make us pure.
Anoint us with your precious blood.
And dip our garments in your blood to make them clean so we may be presented before the Father.
And Father, we come to you and ask you for divine wisdom and understanding to give us the Holy Spirit, the divine comforter, the divine teacher, to teach us and to write your word upon our hearts.
And once again, we pray for everybody out there in your heavenly name, Father, that you may comfort them and protect them and protect us all against the forces of evil and comfort us all.
And anybody that needs healing or anything, just like going through spiritual problems, any kind of problems at all, physical, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, we ask you to comfort them and heal them as well.
In your mighty name we pray, amen.
Amen.
And And what we do, guys, we read the Scripture in context, because context is key.
That's why we do chapter by chapter.
We don't jump all over the Bible.
So we read it in this context.
Very important.
And let the Scripture interpret Scripture.
Don't lean on your understanding.
I'm not going to lean on mine.
We're going to lean on the Holy Spirit.
That's what we're going to do today.
So if you got a Bible guys, please open it up.
If you listen on shakeawakeradio.com.
Thank you, Andy, for carrying the show on your amazing network.
And if you're watching on the video edition here, we got the book of John chapter... I almost forgot what chapter we're on.
Chapter 18 up on video, up on screen.
So we use the King James, but whatever.
If you got a Bible, just open it up.
So, let's begin.
So now, this is after the prayer to the Father.
So now, verse 1, when Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Sidron, and where was a garden, into which he entered and his disciples.
So in Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place, for Jesus oftentimes resorted there with his disciples, right?
So Judas already knew.
And Jesus went there purposely because he knows that that's where they're going to capture him.
And the thing is, he is purposely letting himself be captured because he needs to fulfill the sacrifice.
Because like I said in prior chapters, right?
At any time Jesus could have told the apostles, Judas is a betrayer, right?
And they would have either slew him or beat him up or whatever and booted him out of there.
But Jesus needed that to happen for him to become the Lamb's sacrifice.
So Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, Comes dither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
So as I said in previous chapters of while Jesus was praying and giving the last minute instructions to the apostles, right?
The apostles thought Judas had gone away to buy food for the feast and also for the poor, right?
But he was going away to go tell the Jewish elders and the priests and all that, hey, I know where Jesus is.
And they gave him 40 pieces of silver to sell him out.
So now, as this says here, Judas had received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and pharisees.
So the chief priests and pharisees gave him, like, a little squad of guards to go get Jesus, right?
And they had lands, torches, and weapons.
And Jesus, therefore, knowing all these things should come upon him, as this says, went forth and said unto them, Whom you seek ye?
Who are you seeking?
And they answered him, Jesus of Nazareth.
Jesus said unto them, I am he.
Also Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
So they come to the garden, right?
And led by Judas Iscariot.
And they asked him, who do you seek?
And he said, Jesus of Nazareth.
And Jesus right away says, that's me.
And as soon as he said unto them, I am he, they went backward and fell to the ground.
So some kind of manifestation took place or something.
Because as soon as he says, I am he, boom!
They fell backwards on the ground.
Then asked them again, who do you seek?
They said, Jesus of Nazareth.
Jesus' answer says, I have told you that I am he.
If therefore you seek me, let these go their way.
In other words, because he's with the apostles now, right?
He said, if you seek me, right?
I told you it's me.
Therefore if you seek me, let these go their way.
In other words, let the apostles go.
I'll go with you.
I'm not going to fight you or nothing.
I'll go with you.
Now I think right here, this is why they all show backwards.
Because I think he was demonstrating his power.
To say, leave my imposters alone.
That's what I think was going on.
Because if he didn't do that.
They would have said, you know who cares.
We're taking you and your people.
So I think he scared them to say, hey I can resist you guys.
I can kick your butts or whatever the case may be.
Then he asked them again.
After he startled them.
Like literally they fell to the ground.
We're shooting this IME, right?
So some manifestation took place that knocked him on the butts.
To rattle the cages, this is a supernatural thing going on, right?
So at this point they're scared.
So now Jesus looked at them and said, I'm gonna ask you again, who do you seek?
And they said, probably all nervous, Jesus of Nazareth.
And Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he, and therefore you seek me, right?
Let these go their way.
Let my apostles go their way, right?
So I think this manifestation happened to let them know, I get it.
Leave my people alone or there's gonna be problems.
I'll go with you, no problem.
Because it's part of the destiny for him to do that.
By the prophecy, right?
But leave my people alone.
Let them go.
So if you get the point.
And if you don't get it guys, put it in the comments here.
And I'll explain it better.
But I think you get the point by now.
He demonstrated his power to show his force that he could stop these people if he wanted to.
So, that the same might be fulfilled which he spoke of them which have lost none.
Right?
So, this is how, what separates Jesus from all these so-called prophets that came along.
You know, false prophets and gods.
Like Muhammad and Joseph Smith and all them, right?
Yeah.
So, Jesus put himself in harm's way for us and his apostles.
Muhammad put his own people in harm's way for his benefit.
And so did many of these false people and religions, right?
Jesus is the only one out of all of them that put himself in harm's way many times, spiritually and physically, for us.
So let that sink in for a minute, right?
Verse 10, Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and cut the ear off the high priest's servant.
And he cut off his right ear there.
So he smoked the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear.
So basically he took the sword and attacked the high priest's servant, which is one of the gods probably, right?
And cut his right ear off.
And his servant's name was Malchus.
And then Jesus told Peter, right?
Put up the sword into the sheath and cup which my father had given me shall I not drink it.
Yeah.
Don't stop this from happening.
That's what he's saying.
This is meant to happen.
He told Peter, put your sword away.
And the cup which my father has given me, right?
This is my destiny.
Right?
He goes, shall I not drink it?
What a question.
So basically... Are you trying to prevent this prophecy from... From happening?
This has to happen.
So he told Peter, put that sword away and yeah, get out of here.
Go now, you know, that's why he told them.
You know, he pushed them all with some kind of manifestation, right?
Go now while you got a chance.
But the thing is, Peter was willing to risk his life so Jesus could get away.
But he said, no, stand down, put it away, go, right?
Then the band and the captain, the officers of the Jews, took Jesus and bounded him.
So handcuffed him, whatever they had, or titers or hands, whatever they had to do that, right?
And led him away to Annas first.
For he was father and law to Capias.
So Annas first, he was a father and law to Capias, which was the high priest that same year.
So now Capias he was, which gave counsel to the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. - Okay.
Now, mind you, right?
We're talking about what you're going to see coming up here, right?
And this council of Jews, with the Jews and all that, they have a number of people and what they'll do is the people get to decide in their vote who gets to put to death and who gets a second chance.
That comes up soon, right?
So anyway, remember, and I want to reiterate too, right?
Before we go any further.
About two or three chapters ago, right?
And Simon was asking Jesus who was the betrayer.
Jesus didn't answer him.
And Simon Peter says, I'll lay down my life for you if I have to, right?
And Jesus told him, well, yeah, all right.
But before the cock crows, you're going to deny me three times.
Remember that?
So anyway, Simon Peter followed Jesus and so did another disciple.
And that disciple was known as the high priest and went into Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
So even though they had the chance to get away, because Jesus told them, I'll take it, but you know what?
Let my guys here go.
Go their way, right?
They let them go, but a couple of apostles decided to follow them.
Inconspicuously follow them.
They didn't know they were being followed.
So they went to follow to see what they were doing with Jesus, right?
So, but Peter stood at the door without, and went out at the disciple, or the other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
So the woman that was at the door, And brought him Peter.
Then said to Damsel, the woman there, that kept the door unto Peter, right?
She's the woman that was at the door that accepted people, right?
A receptionist, like.
So she's seen Peter.
She knew Peter was one of Jesus' apostles, right?
And she asked him, are you also one of the man's disciples?
So, are you one of Jesus' disciples?
And he said, no, I'm not.
So there's one.
Remember Jesus said, you've got to deny me three times before the cock crows.
The rooster, right?
So yeah, and the servants of the officers, right, stood there who made a fire of coals for it was cold and they warmed themselves and Peter stood with them, right, and warmed himself.
So he's standing there right there.
He's just trying to be inconspicuous, right?
So he denied, the girls spotted him at the door.
He's like, yeah, I think this is one of his disciples.
He said, no, I'm not.
So now he's standing there with the servants and officers by the fire to warm up.
And the high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples and his doctrine, right?
And Jesus answered him.
And so they're asking him about his disciples and his doctrine, right?
Jesus answered him and he goes, I spoke openly to the world.
I ever taught in the synagogue and in the temple, whether the Jews always resort in the secret, I have said nothing.
He said everything I did, I did openly.
No secret nothing, no secret doctrine, nothing.
I spoke openly in the temples, the synagogues.
He said, why you ask me?
Ask them which heard me, which I have said unto them, Behold, they know what I said.
So he's saying, ask the people, they know what I said.
Because they're trying to ask Jesus what he said.
He goes, I spoke openly, everybody knows, they all heard it.
Ask anybody here what I said.
And when Jesus had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, answer the high priest so.
So they went over there and literally struck Jesus, hit him, and demanded him to answer the high priest.
And Jesus answered him and said, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil.
But if well, why smite me though?
Why do you hit me?
If I spoke evil, where's the witness of it?
Show me how I spoke evil.
But if well, why do you hit me?
I didn't do nothing wrong.
Now, Annas had sent him bound to Capernaum, into Capernaum, the high priest, right?
So, they... They bounded him up, tied him up, whatever, sent him over to the high priest, right?
And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself.
Remember, he's by the fire with the officers and all that.
They said, therefore, unto him... Well, hold on.
You know, he said that.
I said, wait a minute.
You look familiar.
And he goes, are you one of the disciples?
And he denied it.
And he said, no, I am not.
This is the second time now, right?
So, one of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman, whose ear Peter cut off, said, did not I see thee in the garden with him?
So, one of the servants there, remember Peter cut off the guy's ear?
The servant of the high priest, right?
Being a kinsman, whose ear Peter cut off, right?
Or it's a relative or whatever.
A colleague, right?
He's seen it.
Peter cut off.
And he's like, wait a minute.
You look familiar.
Aren't you the one that cut off the ear there?
And I seen you in the garden with him, right?
So Peter denied it again.
This is the third time now, right?
As soon as he denied it, immediately the cock crowed.
So the rooster went, arrr!
And bam!
Peter instantly remembered what Jesus told him.
That he would deny Jesus three times before the cockerel.
Then they led Jesus from Caprias unto the hall of judgment.
And it was early.
And they themselves went into, not into the Judgment Hall, lest they should be defiled.
But they might eat the Passover.
So the Passover dinner was going on at the time, right?
They meet, uh, they eat the, part of the feast there, right?
So, they didn't, they went, uh, let me read it again, yeah.
They led Jesus, uh, into the hall, to the hall of judgment, right?
And it was early, and they themselves did not go into the hall, judgment hall.
So they led Jesus into it, but they didn't go into it.
Because they don't want to be defiled.
Because they might eat the Passover, right?
So Pilate, Pontius Pilate here, then went on to them and said, What accusations you bring against this man?
So now Pontius Pilate's like, hold on, whoa, whoa, whoa, what's going on guys?
What did Jesus do wrong?
Before we even do anything, prison this guy, before we even crucify him, whatever the case, what did this man do wrong?
So Pontius Pilate's going to bat for Jesus, right?
They answered and said unto him, if he were not a malefactor, he would not have delivered him up to thee.
So they're saying, if he didn't, if he was not doing anything wrong, right?
We would never brought him up to you.
So they're trying to tell Pudge and Spyro, oh, well, yeah, he did something wrong.
So that's why he brought him to you.
If he did, we wouldn't even have him here.
Then Pyle said unto them, we'll take him and judge him according to your law.
Now Pontius Pilate was a Roman, right?
The Roman leader.
And the Jewish priest wanted Pilate to kill Jesus.
But Pilate's question, and the book of Matthew gets into more detail.
Pilate has several times questioned.
He actually tried to save Jesus.
But, according to the laws, if the Jews made a decision in their laws, Pontius Pilate would fulfill it.
Right?
So, mind you, the Romans ruled over them, but yeah, that's how it worked, right?
So, Pilate said, Pilate, yeah, then said Pilate to them, take him and judge him according to your law.
The Jewish laws, right?
The Jews therefore said unto him, it is not lawful for us to put any man to death.
So, why you try to crucify him?
So yeah, so the Jews say we can't do that because it's not lawful for us to put anyone to death.
So basically they're trying to pass the buck to Pilate.
We convicted him, but we can't put him to death by law.
But you can, Pilate.
Because the Roman law is different.
They put people to death constantly in the Roman laws.
For centuries.
So the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled.
Which spoke signifying what death he should die.
Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again and called for Jesus, right?
And he said unto him, Art thou the king of the Jews?
Aren't you the king of the Jews?
Asking him, right?
And Jesus answered him, saying, Dost this thing thyself, or did others tell it of me?
Did I say this of myself, or did others... Did you hear me say this of myself, or did others tell it of me?
So he's asking him now.
Pilate answers and says, I am a Jew.
Am I a Jew?
I'm sorry.
Sorry guys for butchering us here.
So I'm going to slow down.
So once again, verse 34, right?
I don't want to butcher this so I want a clear understanding.
So Pilate's asking Jesus, aren't you the king of the Jews?
And Jesus answers him and said, yeah.
Sayeth that this thing of thyself, or did others tell you that you are of me?
So he's asking, like, uh, Pilate, are you saying this of this thing?
Are you asking me because of yourself, or are you asking me because other people told you?
And Pilate answering, he goes, am I a Jew?
Well, he's not, he's a Roman, right?
He's asking, am I a Jew?
Thy own nation and the top chief priests here have delivered you unto me.
What have you done?
He's asking Jesus now, what have you done?
He asked the Jews before, what did this man do wrong?
They really couldn't give him a direct answer.
Now he's asking Jesus, what did you do wrong?
Your people, your nation, delivered you to me to make judgment on you.
What have you done wrong?
He's asking Jesus now, right?
And Jesus answered, my kingdom is not of this world.
If my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight?
That I should not be delivered to you, the Jews.
But now is my kingdom not from here.
So you're saying, yeah, if this was... If I was of this world, I could destroy you guys.
My servants would fight and win, easily.
And that's the truth.
He could have sent down legion angels and ended the whole operation right there.
Literally.
So Pilate therefore said unto him, Aren't you the king then?
And Jesus answered, Thou saying I am the king?
To this said, Was I born?
For this is the cause, this is why I came, he's saying, right?
I came into this world that I should be a witness unto the truth.
And everyone that is the truth hears my voice.
Everybody that is of the truth hears my voice, right?
So he's telling Pilate, the Roman leader, right?
This is the reason I was born.
This is why I came to this world.
That I should bear witness unto the truth.
And everyone that of the truth can hear me.
So Pilate said unto him, What is the truth?
He asked him, what is the truth?
And when he said, So basically, Pilate's asking him questions, right?
To summarize this, right?
Pilate's asking him, aren't you the king of the Jews?
What did you do wrong?
He's trying to make an understanding.
What the heck did Jesus do wrong?
Because he didn't get a direct answer from the Jews, right?
And the Jews wanted to put him to death, but they couldn't do it because of the laws, right?
So they want Pilate to do it.
So now Pilate's questioning, why am I putting this guy to death?
What the hell did he do wrong?
They didn't give him a direct answer, so now he's asking Jesus, and Jesus is telling him the truth.
Like, yeah, everything's the truth that he already spoke, right?
So Pilate's like, said unto him, what is the truth?
And when he had heard this, right?
He went out to the Jews again.
Consulted with the Jews through elders.
You know, the top people there.
The priests.
And he said that to them.
I find no fault in this man at all.
Yeah, he's innocent.
Probably puzzled.
Why the hell you guys got to him in the first place?
This guy did nothing wrong.
What's wrong with you people?
Right?
But you have a custom that I should release unto you one at the Passover.
So, will therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
Do you want me to release him?
Because it was him and Barnabas I did.
Yeah, Barabas, okay?
There was two people up for trial in the Hall of Judgment, right?
So, according to the Passover, right?
When they had people at this Judgment According to the Passover and their tradition, the Jewish tradition, right?
One person they were allowed to release and wipe away any crimes or anything like that, right?
So Pilate's like, well, you know what?
Well, do you want me to release the king of Jews?
Because he didn't do nothing wrong.
Barabbas did, right?
And they cried out all again saying, not this man, but Barabbas.
Now Barabbas was a robber, right?
So the people followed Jesus, they wanted Barabbas.
I'm sorry, let me rephrase that, right?
The Jewish, all the priests and all that, right?
They're yelling out, no, no, no, no.
Not this man, but Barabbas.
We want Barabbas released.
And they're saying that Barabbas was a robber, right?
So Barabbas had, it was just cause to capture Barabbas.
And for judgment, right?
He was a thief, right?
violated the, what?
The eighth commandment.
That you shall not steal, right?
Pure violation of God's law and the laws at the time, right?
And it's a law today.
You go to jail for stealing, right?
Here's Jesus that did nothing wrong at all, and they want him killed, and they want really some criminal.
Sounds like today, too, with this bail reform stuff going on.
They sympathize for criminals, but you and me, we got caught defending ourselves or something.
We go to jail.
You know what I mean?
It's ridiculous.
It's ridiculous.
So to make this clear one more time, Thank you.
They had Pilate.
Okay, summarize this.
They brought Jesus to Pilate.
Because the Jews already condemned him.
Even before this even started.
They already condemned him the second they started hearing him, right?
So, they finally grabbed him.
Okay, captured him, right?
as Judas Iscariot sold him out.
Peter denied him three times at the end of the day, right?
Well, the cock crows usually at the end of the day, right?
Anyway, now he's at the hall of judgment, right?
And so they're telling Pilate, listen, it's like, yeah.
And Pilate's like, why do you want me to convict this man?
They couldn't answer him directly.
And they said, well, it's against the outlaws to kill somebody.
And Pilate's like, well, what do you want me to do about it?
So he wanted to question Jesus, right?
Jesus answers the questions and he says, oh, yeah, this guy's fighting me.
He did nothing wrong.
I don't find no fault in him at all.
So he went to the Jews and said, guys, what are you talking about, man?
This guy has no fault in him.
But however, since we do got him in custody, right?
We are allowed to release one person.
There's Jesus and Barabbas, right?
Barabbas is the criminal, right?
Jesus did nothing wrong.
Pilate's saying that, right?
So do you want me to release Jesus?
I can release him right now.
The King of the Jews.
I can release him.
He did nothing wrong.
He's innocent.
And the Jewish priests and elders and all that, the Pharisees, as they say, they screamed and yelled, no, no, no!
Don't release Jesus, but Barabbas.
We want Barabbas released.
So they really had a criminal release.
And Jesus was found guilty.
He did nothing wrong.
So the next chapter, it moves into his crucifixion.
So that's chapter 19, so we're going to see what happens.
So yeah, this is amazing.
The whole time it was nothing but a witch hunt from day one.
As soon as Jesus started preaching among people in the synagogues and all that, Jews always trying to arm the Jewish elders, always trying to bag him on something.
And Jesus handed it right back to them, and they didn't like that.
Because it got the attention off them, their attention hounds.
Everywhere they walked, they got praises and everything else.
Now Jesus is around, giving the truth out.
And not many people are treating these Jewish priests like rock stars anymore.
And no matter what Jesus did or said, they refused to believe that he was the Messiah.
Even though in their own prophecies, that they claim to believe, right?
Their own prophecies, they still deny them.
Sickness really is but this had to happen too because this is part of the process So guys, I hope you enjoyed this if you've got any questions comments or answers and we'll get to The next chapter here any questions comments answers Next chapter at the next video put in the comment section, please And um, yeah, trust the plan the only plan that's the bible and don't take my word.
