Jim Carrey's parody video mocks the gun-obsessed sentiment of Charlton Heston rather than his death.

So what has Alex and Ted Nugent so worked up is that Jim Carrey put out a parody song on Funny or Die called Cold Dead Hand. The video is basically just making fun of people who are obsessed with guns, and Charlton Heston's a pretty good example of that sort of person from history, and Jim Carrey does a Charlton Heston impression, so it all fits. It's easy. It's not really making fun of his death, which again happened five years prior. It's really more making fun of the expression, you can take my gun from my cold dead hand, which is itself a reference to Heston's 2000 NRA convention speech. And they're making fun of it by saying that Heston couldn't get into heaven because the angels couldn't get the gun out of his cold dead hand.
