The oath requirement in the Constitution was put there by the founders to ensure everyone knows their responsibility to say no to unlawful orders.

It comes from Article 3 of the Constitution, or Article 6, I mean, of the Constitution itself. The oath requirement was put there by the founders for a reason. They were concerned that anywhere in the chain of command, from the president down to your local dog catcher, they wanted to make sure that everyone knew their responsibility to say no.
