An SEC lawyer suspended for inappropriate emails argued his chaotic life situation caused his behavior.

According to a 2012 article in Reuters, this lawyer, Jeffrey Norris, won a federal appeal in his case that he deserved to, quote, a chance to get his job back by presenting medical evidence that those actions won't happen again. See, he argued that his life situation was chaotic back when he sent those emails, and that he'd been seeing a psychiatrist and the circumstances in his life had improved to the point where it wouldn't be that again.
