[PREVIEW] Episode 466: Clanging with Emily

Emily from Clanging kicks off by rallying New Yorkers to push the Creep Act—a $0-cost bill modernizing anti-stalking laws—through Speaker Carl Hastie’s office (518-455-3791) before it stalls, blending urgency with dark humor about "compound rules" as a metaphor for toxic influence. After dismissing rap battles and Lauren Hill impersonations, the hosts pivot to mocking cult-like behavior while framing relocation advice as a "strategic redoubt," leaving listeners with a mix of activism and absurdity that underscores how even serious issues get tangled in their signature chaotic charm. Important Listener Advice 00:02:50
Hello, it is Brace.
I did not include this in the rest of the episode because I forgot.
But nevertheless, it's still vitally important that you listen to me, especially if you live in New York State.
Although anybody can participate, you just didn't hear it from me.
This doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the episode, but it is very time-sensitive.
People are crazy these days, right?
They do all sorts of weird stuff.
People get these crazy fixations in their head.
I don't know, mental illness.
Maybe someone's just a nut.
Who knows?
There's a lot of creeps out there.
And there's a lot of people who have been getting stocked.
There's a lot of stocking going around.
You don't want to get stocked.
I hope you're not stalking anybody.
A friend of ours was stalked and because of the shittiness of that experience, was pretty instrumental in getting a bill written, the Creep Act, the Ceasing Repeated and Extremely Egregious Predatory Behavior Act.
It modernizes New York State's anti-stocking laws, bringing them into line with protections passed in 43 other states.
It is really important, especially if you have any experience with this kind of stuff.
It fucking sucks.
And it has a really big chance of passing, but they might let it fall to the wayside, even though it's made it super far in the New York State legislature.
It has a ton of support, but we need you to call Speaker Carl Hastie today at 518-455-3791.
That's Speaker Carl Hastie at 518-455-3791.
Urge him to pass the Creep Act this session.
There is a list of talking points we'll post that don't mention the podcast.
Don't be a creep yourself.
Just call, tell them that shit.
If nobody answers, just leave a voicemail.
Just express your support.
Thank you for listening this long.
And I hope nobody is stalking you.
Thank you.
I feel like it's been a long time since we talked about the, and it comes up in this episode, the don't move to the compound rule.
Yeah, I think it's important to keep in mind.
It depends, though.
I'm just going to say that.
No, you can't equivocate.
No, I have, I'm equivocating right now.
Well, it depends on what you mean by move, right?
What do you mean?
Well, you know, Bill Clinton?
No, but I'm talking about like Yanan, right?
Mao's got this little cave complex thing going on there, you know, and like all the Chinese, the communists kind of get, things don't go so well for them.
They all kind of have to go to the cave.
I think you can go to the compound.
Ooh, this might bite me in the ass in the future.
But I feel like you can go to the compound if more than like 5,000 people do.
It's that really still a compound then?
Could He Rap? 00:02:05
No, I guess it's not.
It's a strategic redoubt.
This is more actually advice for our listeners.
If you are, because we've got some male, I would say male manipulators out there listening to this podcast.
I hope not.
No, but maybe.
We've got some, let's say we've got some energetic young people that listen to this podcast.
If you are enticing people to move to your compound-like location, call it a strategic redoubt, call it a study center, call it a retreat.
No, no, no.
That's another good one.
True non-rules are not meant for these types.
Hello.
I'm Liz.
My name is Brace.
I'm producer Young Chomsky.
And this is Truanon.
Welcome.
Welcome.
We're rapping today.
We are not rapping today.
Thank God.
You think I could rap, though?
No.
I said that so fast.
I know, but which means you weren't thinking about it.
But now that you've had some time.
Nope.
It's still a no.
I don't think I could rap.
I agree.
That's why I said no.
This goes out of the way.
No, I don't think you should try.
I'm trying to hang in from my ding-dong.
No.
No?
I don't think you should try.
I don't think I could try it either.
I would like to, though.
I feel like it's, yeah, you know, for like a couple albums.
I bet, you know what you should do?
You should take classes.
Dude, I should take, because you know there's rap classes going on.
I'm sure.
All you need to find is a community board and get someone's number.
People do rap and karaoke.
That's always kind of crazy.
I know someone who does it really good, though.
What song?
Lauren Hill Dewop, which is impressive to see because that is.
It's me.
It's not you.
