Robert Duvall's Legacy
00:05:49
|
|
| that smell that napalm smell smells like like victory well last year gene hackman died one of my favorite actors And then I learned today that yesterday at 95, Robert Duvall died. | |
| And I don't have some big obsession with Hollywood. | |
| I'm not a huge movie guy, but I got to tell you, growing up, man, those guys were like John Wayne to me. | |
| Nothing against John Wayne like John Wayne movies. | |
| Okay, like John Wayne, but I never really thought of him as like the greatest actor or the most Americana type guy. | |
| But Gene Hackman and Robert Duvall, I mean, if I had to say who my favorite actor was, it'd be Robert Duvall. | |
| I've said that before. | |
| And I was just thinking about Robert Duvall like a week ago, man. | |
| I can't think, God, that guy's lived forever. | |
| He's so cool. | |
| I wish I could meet him. | |
| You know, I got to know a little bit of Charlton Hess, who I really liked. | |
| He was involved with the NRA. | |
| Interviewed him a few times. | |
| And he was so nice. | |
| He says, if you ever need any mentorship or talk about America, give me a call. | |
| Had his number for like months and months. | |
| Never called it. | |
| Called it, called it, and answered, called it another time. | |
| He answered like a 30-minute conversation. | |
| Like trying to, like I said, mentor me about fighting for America and freedom and how important young people were. | |
| I was like 30 then. | |
| And then I tried a few more times. | |
| Never got to talk to him. | |
| He was on the show a few times, but still, on the scale of one to 10, you know, Gene Hackman and Charlton Hester a nine, but Robert Duvall's a 10. | |
| THX1138, Blowsome Dove, Free Range, The Godfather, Apocalypse Now. | |
| I mean, he was just so human. | |
| He just telegraphed through so powerfully. | |
| It's really a celebration of humanity that death's a great equalizer. | |
| And there's been so many amazing souls before us and so many now. | |
| And it's really the future. | |
| It's all part of the human experience. | |
| So that's why we've got to be pro-humanity. | |
| We got to celebrate humanity. | |
| And, you know, appreciate humanity. | |
| One of my other favorite actors is Denzel Washington. | |
| And, you know, just the great things he does on screen, but also the things he says in person. | |
| You know, as himself, the interview is just amazing. | |
| You know, one day he'll make a jump in diverspace. | |
| I will too. | |
| Death is the great equalizer. | |
| So I just want to say to Robert Duvall from To Kill a Mockingbird to Slingblade. | |
| Amazing job. | |
| Your humanity cut right through the screen like a laser beam. | |
| And you're not gone. | |
| You're not forgotten. | |
| You're here with us forever. | |
| And we know your energy transcends the next level. | |
| So God bless you and God bless your family. | |
| Robert Duvall, what an amazing patriot. | |
| He was a conservative, by the way. | |
| And what an amazing American. | |
| What a grazing. | |
| What an amazing man. | |
| God bless you, Robert Duvall. | |
| We're all really proud to share the same planet with you. | |
| It's amazing. | |
| Again, we salute you. | |
| Robert Duvall. | |
| I love the smell of napalm in the morning. | |
| Smells like, like victory. | |
| I would tell you don't eat the fishes. | |
| It's poisonous. | |
| You can't even swim in the water. | |
| It'll give you some kind of bacterial infection. | |
| So how's that for sick? | |
| I'm having a private moment with my family. | |
| We'd like to be left alone. | |
| I'm leaving soon. | |
| I'm retiring to Arizona, Lake Habasoo City. | |
| Ever been there? | |
| That's not what I mean. | |
| They call it a lake, but it's really just a big bowl of muddy water. | |
| But the wife, the wife, thinks it's paradise. | |
| Everybody has their own idea of what they think paradise is. | |
| Take me, for instance. | |
| You know what I thought paradise was? | |
| What? | |
| If you'll excuse me? | |
| Making babies? | |
| Ain't that a kick? | |
| Making babies. | |
| That's your little girl. | |
| Beautiful. | |
| Beautiful. | |
| Lovely. | |
| She's special. | |
| Yeah. | |
| Nice. | |
| You know, my wife never was cut out for motherhood. | |
| She did it all for me. | |
| See, went through all that pain, lost a figure all for me. | |
| Then the kid went to sleep one night, never woke up. | |
| They called it infant death. | |
| Syndrome. | |
| But she wasn't an infant. | |
| It was very strange because she was two years old. | |
| She was a big girl. | |
| She was our baby. | |
| Here, darling, this is for you. | |
| You go. | |
| There you go. | |
| Thank you. | |
| What can you do? | |
| If she'd been hit by a drunk driver, but, you know, who do you blame when they just don't wake up? | |
| Who? | |
| Elizabeth, get out of here, go on! | |
| Elizabeth! | |
| Freeze! | |
| Elizabeth! | |
| What were you gonna do? | |
| I don't know. | |
| I don't know what I'm gonna do. | |
|
Elizabeth's Frozen Moment
00:02:10
|
|
| Oh, guys like you always say you don't know what you're gonna do until you do it. | |
| I think you know exactly what you were gonna do. | |
| You were to kill your wife and child. | |
| Yeah. | |
| And then you know it'd be too late to turn back. | |
| It would be real easy to turn the gun around on yourself. | |
| Now let's go meet some nice policemen. | |
| They're good guys. | |
| Come on, let's go. | |
| I see through a rose-colored darkly. | |
| That means I'm trying to tell you the truth, but I'm not always right just about 98% of the time. | |
| And bad guys of every stripe don't want this show in the air. | |
| But you're the good guys. | |
| You have to decide: hey, this guy's a fighter. | |
| This guy stood up for this. | |
| This guy is an incredible track recorder. | |
| We want to support him. | |
