Time Text
As Independent Counsel Mueller compounds the fictional Russia investigation, Applying the wishes of the desperate bloodhounds of the left to a character assassination of the President of the United States that refuses to dissipate, President Trump sent a message to the Communist Party of Cuba that has endured 50 years of U.S. sanctions and survived the loss of support President Trump sent a message to the Communist Party of Cuba that has endured 50 years of U.S.
It is best for America to have freedom in our hemisphere, whether in Cuba or Venezuela, and to have a future where the people of each country can live out their own dreams.
applause Thank you.
For nearly six decades, the Cuban people have suffered under communist domination.
To this day, Cuba is ruled by the same people who killed tens of thousands of their own citizens, who sought to spread their repressive and failed ideology throughout our hemisphere, and who once tried to host enemy nuclear weapons 90 miles from our shores.
The Castro regime has shipped arms to North Korea My administration will
not hide from it.
Excuse it or glamorize it.
And we will never, ever be blind to it.
We know what's going on, and we remember what happened.
On my recent trip overseas, I said the United States is adopting a principled realism rooted in our values, shared interests, and common sense.
I also said countries should take greater responsibility for creating stability in their own regions.
It's hard to think of a policy that makes less sense than the prior administration's terrible and misguided deal with the Castro regime.
Of course, Obama had embraced the Marxist-Leninist model.
Consider that for more than 35 years we've had relations with China.
A far larger country also governed by a Communist Party.
Nearly two decades ago, we re-established relations with Vietnam, where we fought a war that claimed more Americans than any Cold War confrontation.
That's why, when I came into office, I promised to re-examine our Cuba policy.
The President, I'm talking President Obama, another deal here where the U.S. doesn't get anything in return.
I mean, this is like a deja vu.
It keeps happening.
I think if you came out of a left-wing background like Obama did, you think the U.S. is so bad that it would be inappropriate for it to get anything.
And so you actually want to give things away out of guilt.
And remember, on the left, people wear Che Guevara's t-shirts and have no idea how many people he killed.
President Trump's stand with a hardline vision of our republic's fundamental values is not lost on a great deal of American voters.
By canceling Obama's Cuba policy, Cuba must now ask itself if it wants to continue on its communist path, frozen in time in the 1950s, or reap the rewards of a capitalist democracy following the death of Fidel Castro.
Mr. President, behalf of the Cuban people, the people inside my eyes, my homeland, thank you.
Thank you and we appreciate your love.
