Quentin Carter, 2017 NRA Annual Meeting, here with my great friend Tim Harmsman.
Just want to talk to you a little bit, Tim.
Talk to us about your feelings about the NRA as a whole, the importance of the Second Amendment, and what the Second Amendment means to you.
Alright, well, so the Second Amendment, I'm pretty much what you call a single-issue voter.
I believe the Second Amendment secures the Constitution in its entirety.
I'm also one of those people that believes that pretty much all gun laws are illegal.
And I think that shall not be infringed, somebody needs to go to Congress and read to them the definition of infringement.
With 20,000 gun laws on the books, that's more than infringement.
That's gross negligence with our rights.
The NRA is the protector of our freedoms, really.
I mean, it's the largest body out there right now that's actively fighting for our rights.
And NRA is going through kind of a metamorphosis.
I've been kind of a critic in the past of the NRA. Not on all things, but I get sideways with them on certain stuff.
Pete Brownell has now assumed the presidency.
I've chatted with Pete more than once, and I really think the NRA is going through a metamorphosis.
They're going from a defensive position to an offensive position, and we're going to start trying to roll back gun laws, not just stop new ones, but start getting some of our rights back.
And I think that's really important, especially over the next four years, with a friendly administration in the White House.
I've never seen an environment like this in my entire life.
I'm 47 years old, and now is the time to press the advantage.
With your reach being as wide as it is and as many people as you contact daily, how do you...
I think we should go about getting a younger audience.
So the NRA is typically the older 70-year-old white male.
We have the largest population of veterans in our society currently in any time in our history.
So how do we go about getting that?
25-year-old kid who's fresh out of the National Guard or one tour with the Marines.
How do we get those guys to understand the importance of the NRA to not only become members but to donate to fight this fight?
So you talk to them in a way that they understand.
Oops, almost dropped it.
Right?
Right.
The NRA used to do things old ways, print magazines, and they were very protective of the message.
They wanted to control it in a very corporate way.
That doesn't work with people that are younger now.
Everybody's calling millennials.
I almost hate the term.
But people consume content now on digital devices on the Internet.
Television's going the way of the dodo.
Who has a landline anymore at their house?
Everything's cellular-based.
We need to reach people through social media because that's the way people communicate now, and NRA realizes that, and they're starting to embrace social media players, and we're going to help them carry that message forward, and that's how we're going to reach those folks, and people need to understand.
I think veterans more than anybody know the importance of the Constitution.
I know when I was in, I couldn't think of one Marine that would say, yeah, I'd actively go knock on doors and take guns away.
Simply wouldn't happen.
So most veterans already have.
A commitment to our Constitution and our rights and are willing to fight for it.
It's the non-veterans, the millennials that are out there, I think, that we really have to reach and let them know that, look, firearms aren't bad.
It's part of our culture, and it actually makes a safer society.
Absolutely.
Sounds great.
So tell the people how they can find you, what all that you do, so that we can help promote you as well.
Absolutely.
Military Arms Channel.
Just get on Google and type in Military Arms Channel.
I have about 550,000 subscribers, about 3 million people a month watch me.
I would love to see you guys come by and check us out.
Absolutely.
So, Quentin Carter, 2017 NRA Annual Meeting, Tim Harmsman.
