The Muslim state capital rally just concluded here, and he was telling me what he was out here doing.
Tell me why you came out here today.
Really just to support the organizations that arranged this event.
The band wasn't really the center part of it.
I know that's kind of the highlight lately, but this event has been going on every couple of years.
The event is really just to present the Muslim community.
As a peaceful, law-abiding citizen, it's not necessarily anything politically agendas, or push any political agendas, but, you know, that's what's kind of the highlight in the news.
So, I'm guessing, I mean, I didn't really hear any speeches addressing the ban either, so, you know, I don't think that was really...
What was the group that organized this that you wanted to support?
CARE. It is Center of American-Islamic Relations.
Are you aware of the terror group in Palestine, Hamas?
I'm aware of Hamas, yes.
What are your thoughts on Hamas?
I know limited about it.
All I know is that Palestine is not really allowed to have its own government.
They're not recognized as a state, as people that should have basic rights like water, etc.
I don't know what Hamas' political agenda is, so I just would rather not comment on that.

Now, are you a Muslim, sir?
You identify as Muslim?
Yes, I am.
Okay, so now I don't know if you're aware of this or not, or how much credence you've taken to this, but an FBI document was just released that determined that CARE, the Center of American Islamic Relations, is actually run by Hamas.
Or do Hamas CARE connections were you at all?
I didn't know if the Hamas scared connections.
As far as groups that want to infiltrate, I don't know if any.
What are your thoughts on the ban?
My thoughts on the ban are I just felt, okay, if it's something that's going to be executed, just the way it was done, you know, I felt was not right.
I felt a lot of the people that were banned, you know, they were in transit.
They have already been approved.
You know, I understand if it's something you want to have a longer vetting process, not approve visas down the road.
I'm not going to comment on that, but that's a little more understandable than the way this was conducted.
Did you guys watch the news about the ban?
Yeah, the travel ban is a ban on countries, not religions, though.
And the list was made by Obama.
The list was made by Obama, too.
I'm sure you're educated going to college white male.
The biggest lie right now today is Donald Trump running this country.
That's a fact.
The white supremacist movement is running this country.
See, that's not true, sir.
That's not true.
You realize that Donald Trump got elected by people from all race, colors, and creeds, though.
That's a fact.
You'd like to go to Ohio?

Do you think that Muslim-American relations need improvement?

So what do you think, what kind of improvements can be made with the Muslim Americans and the rest of the Americans?

How do people distinguish?
Like, what do we do to try to distinguish?
Because Muslim Americans, I believe, are good people.
Like, all these people out here, they're not bad people.
How do we mend these relations?
Well, you know, let's say, like, you know, the positive news about the Muslims.
You know, if you look at the Muslims, okay, you find, like, more of them, let's say, like, are professionals, doctors.
You know, engineers, lawyers, you find very little problems with the Muslims.
Do you think there's any aspect of a radical Islam that's a threat?

Everything about him is wrong.

Our family's been living here for years, and we're like, okay, you're moving.

So maybe, you know, even though Donald Trump might be a bad guy, do you think possibly he might just be doing this in the interest of national security?
I feel like some of his motives would be for the safety, but some might not be.
So five of the seven countries in the travel ban, Barack Obama bombed for eight years.
Do you guys think that there might be anyone in those countries that might want to come here and cause harm to Americans?

I voted for Trump because I thought that he wanted to tackle some of the serious issues and tackle terrorism and the source and who creates it, who fund it, and who trains it.

Why did he exclude Saudi Arabia?
Why did he exclude the United Arab Emirates?
Because they're rich.
That's why I'm disappointed in him.

I'm very disappointed in him because now he leaves himself open to criticism and also how he is following the law.

If he's following Rudy Giuliani's little New York, you know, agenda, then he's wrong.

I lived with my Christian brothers for all my life when I was young.

And I'm 56 years old, and they are.
Till this day, when he sees one of my brothers, he says, where's my brother?

Tell him to come by and stop and say, why we can't have that?

You know, our Constitution, the Founding Fathers, if we go back to everything they wrote in the book for us and live by that, we'll be fine.
But you got bad people?
Let's deal with them.

A lot of people who get trained and get the funding, we know where they go.

Everybody knows where they go, where they get their training and funding.

It's unfortunate that everybody blames everybody.

Conservative media blames liberal media.

It shouldn't be that.
I mean, yeah, some media are liberal.
Some media is conservative.
That's their choice.
They want to report things, positive things about, you know, that, that's fine.
That's their thing.
I didn't like Hillary.
I never liked her.
They should have put Bernie Sanders and he would have won.
But I don't like anybody who hides stuff.
I don't like it.
And I think Hillary could be a lot to blame for all the struggle in the Middle East.
And she's to blame for the DNC problems.
Not just for that.
It's still for the structure, and now they have to rebuild.
The same thing.
Our community, we have to rebuild.
I always tell people from my community, from anybody, from anywhere, we have to cleanse the ills inside before you can tackle the ills outside.
Now, would you say, because you said you've brought these issues to light before, you've even mentioned this to people that have political influence, would you say that your voice is just unheard or just not respected, or why do you think it doesn't get through?
No, I don't think they understand quickly what I mean and what I'm talking about, and they don't understand the background.
If I can sit down with somebody for an hour, they're going to walk out scratching their head and say, man, this person should be...
One of President Obama or whoever's, you know, senior advisor is sitting right over there, you know.
I talked to a gentleman back overseas in Iraq in the days, and he was a retired colonel with the Marines, and he was a consultant to the ambassadors, and he helped establish a lot of things there.
And he was always baffled by, man, he said, you came to this country when you were 17?
I said, yeah.
How do you know about America more than 75% of Americans?
And you still...
Because you appreciate the actual privilege of being free here.
Exactly.
You appreciate it.
And I want my children to appreciate it.
But I don't want them to forget their roots.
I want them to keep up with their roots.
Everybody has to have roots.
You've got to know your ancestors.
He's got to know his ancestors.

Everybody's got to know his ancestors, where you come from, so you can keep it going.
That's how to be proud.

Saudi Arabia is actually close to these regions where civil war is tearing these places apart.

You don't think you could put refugees on there?
So, again, this is the kind of conversation we need to have, folks.
As you've seen here out in the streets, some people don't want to talk to me.
Some people do want to talk to me.

We come to truths.
We come together.
But, of course, when you want to avoid conversation and confrontation, you'll never come together.
