Time Text
Hi everybody, this is Devan Molyneux from Freedom Aid.
Hope you're doing well. Happy Father's Day to everyone 2021.
I hope you're having a wonderful day with your children.
If you're a dad, I hope if you have a great dad that you call him, visit him, see him, and thank him for everything that he did.
And I hope if you are thinking about becoming a father, I'll tell you a little something about it.
So I lived a fairly self-involved life for a couple of decades and then I became a father in my early 40s.
And so I've really seen both sides of the same coin.
And let me tell you, being a father is participation in the eternal, in the three billion plus years of life.
Through which the back to hand you your genetics who has been fought on many different fronts of sexual success, of escaping predators, of finding food, of surviving winters.
And to be handed this most brilliant blazing torch of the universe of human consciousness from 3 billion plus years of evolution is an incredible gift.
To be regurgitated star staff holding aloft the Olympic torch of the universe which is the blinding accuracy and depth of human consciousness To be such a tiny percentage of the universe that can scarcely be calculated, that has the capacity to reflect, to philosophize, to discover universals, to create and enact morality, is such an incredible gift that were you to be any atom, any Piece of regurgitated stardust.
You would choose to be exactly where you are, carrying the three pounds of the greatest glory of existence, the human mind.
This is where you would choose to be, and that gift has been given to you like a divine and omniscient inheritance from the claws, tentacles, hands, and fists of your ancestors, and I hope that you are enjoying the great and enormous gift of life, and I hope that you will choose to pay it forward.
We cannot find meaning And virtue in the mere stimulation of our own transitory happiness.
The hedonistic treadmill means that whatever happiness you gain will diminish from you relatively quickly.
And so you cannot stay happy simply by satisfying yourself.
You can't stay happy by participating in the universal, some would call it the divine, the eternal, the infinite.
You do that through philosophy.
You can do that through religion.
But in the most practical and immediate sense, you can do that through the creation of a family, through the passing of the wisdom you have accumulated down like a blazing torch to your children and to their children.
When you teach a child, you're teaching that child's child and all of the other children that person is going to come in contact with over the course of his or her life.
And it is a glorious thing to participate in the eternal, to participate in the greatest divinity known to man, which is the creation And training of virtuous consciousness.
You have the capacity to create meaning by creating life and nurturing and sustaining that which is best in those who come after you.
And if you enjoy your life, surely you don't want to be like that jerk of a kid who inherits a family fortune that stretches back centuries and burns it on the Pathetic and pitiful fire of self-consumption with the kid who inherits millions and millions of dollars and squanders it on mere nerve stimulation and the pursuit of diminishing happiness to the point where you end up with neither the happiness nor the fortune and only the regret of having squandered what your ancestors fought so hard to provide to you.
You don't want to be that person.
I'm sure we would make fun of that kind of person as taking an eternal fortune and squandering it on vainglorious and fading Instagram Selfies of narcissistic diminishing.
You want to take that and you want to provide it to those who come after you if you enjoy your life.
If you don't enjoy your life, maybe it's because you're stepping back from participating in the eternal, the universal, and the as close to divinity as we can achieve as mortal beings.
Because our mortality is only for our flesh.
Our ideas can be immortal.
The impact and impression that we can leave on others can be immortal.
And if you wish to last forever, there's nothing better to do than to create and nurture and train life in wisdom and virtue and truth and goodness and moral courage.
And that will give you more meaning than anything else that you could ever, ever imagine.
To participate In the universal is to gain immortality and only through the pursuit of immortality can we gain meaning and true and lasting happiness.
