Hi everybody, Stefan Molling from Freedom Made Radio.
Hope you're doing well.
I know I am.
So it was about 10 years ago I was driving to work and I was tired of the radio, tired of music, tired of audiobooks.
And I thought to myself, Self, you've spent tens of thousands of hours studying philosophy and creating great arguments and having great conversations with people about truth and reason and freedom and all the things that matter in the long run and in the deep sense of humanity.
So I started recording these shows in my car.
Just thought it would be interesting to put them out.
Thought it might engage some people in some challenging debates.
And it's grown.
Man, it has grown.
Do you know we're doing about 4 million views and downloads a month?
Even if we don't increase, that's close to 50 million points of light in the human consciousness every single year.
50 million.
We just passed on YouTube a quarter of a million subscribers, and this is going gangbusters.
This is the biggest philosophical injection of empirical rationality that humankind has ever experienced in its history.
And yeah, some of that has to do with me, but that has to do with you.
Listen, I'm going to tell you something that's just so important.
When I started this, I thought this would be an interesting and probably footnoted addition to the story of human consciousness and the moral progression of mankind.
Now, I have changed my mind.
I have evolved with your support to understanding that this show could win.
That philosophy against superstition, against irrationality, against trauma, against nationalism, against racism, that philosophy could win.
Unthinkable, unprecedented philosophy is always the 98-pound weakling on the beach.
History and idiocy kickstand in its face every single time in history.
Philosophers lose.
They get killed.
They get exiled.
They get ostracized.
They lose.
Now, by God, we could win.
For the first time in human history, philosophy could actually win.
I can't tell you how this gets me.
I get out of bed like an electrified eel, springing up in some Looney Tunes kind of way, and I attack the microphone, and I attack the data, and I attack the errors, and I attack the superstitions, and I attack the ignorance, and I encourage the wisdom every single day.
Because now, this is not just a potential footnote or a quirk or a slight detour in the history of human thought.
This is the conversation that might finally, after 2,500 years of philosophers getting kicked in the ass, This is the conversation that might win, that might fundamentally alter the course of human history, that might fundamentally change the way the world thinks, by reminding the world that it doesn't think right now, but thinking would be a really great idea.
Critical thinking would be really, really great.
So I am committed to that kind of future.
I don't know if it's because I'm a dad now, where I wasn't when the show started.
I don't know if it's because of your enthusiasm and hostility and support and condemnation that has got me going.
You know, a match burns because it has ignition and friction.
I bring the ignition, the world brings the friction, and we bring light to what was formerly dark.
So I don't know if it's because of all of that, but I'm telling you, I am ready, willing, and able to take this to the max.
I am willing to take this to the max.
But I need your support.
Philosophy needs your support.
A different world, an unprecedented world, needs your support.
Look, people get behind what they treasure.
If you treasure your relationship with a God, then you get behind your religious institutions, and you donate, and you support, and you encourage people.
And if you believe in a particular political candidate, you get behind.
You give money.
You give support.
You work hard to bring the message to the people.
I am working as hard as I can to bring the message to the people.
I need your support.
Philosophy needs your support.
A free future needs your support.
And you can do it cheaply.
10 bucks a month, 20 bucks a month.
Contribute to the moral progress of mankind.
If you're consuming the show without sharing it, without talking to people about it, without contributing financially to it, you are a free rider.
And you know better because you listen to this show.
You know that you need to get behind and support that which you treasure, that which you consider important.
I'm not running ads.
It's all to do with you.
There's damn good reasons why I don't run ads on this channel.
I need your support.
This possible future that we're trying to build brick by brick, we're trying to surmount and overcome all of the errors and catastrophes of history, the dumb, blind repetition of tradition.
All of this we're trying to overcome in this conversation.
I'm fully committed to bringing everything I can to make this conversation as accessible, as entertaining, as stimulating, as provocative, as insightful, as illuminating, as enlightening as humanly possible.
But I can't do it without you.
I can't.
I'm just a guy in a room.
I can't do it without you.
You need to get behind what you treasure and you need to hook into the great traction of hope.
Of hope.
50 million a year.
Why not 500 million?
Why not?
We can do it.
You need to get behind and support what you treasure.
You need to get the traction of hope.
And to understand that for once, we who are right can prevail.
For once in history, we who can think can prevail.
For once in history.
Wisdom can surmount historical delusion.
But only if you help it out.
Only if you help it out.
Whoever is the most committed wins.
Religious people, political people, and so on, they are very committed, and they will win.
Unless you change what you're doing, and join those who are supporting philosophy.
