Time Text
This is an iHeart podcast.
All right, thanks, Scott Channel.
Hour two, Sean Hannity Show this Friday, 800-941-Sean on number.
If you want to be a part of the program, I'm not going to replay what we played yesterday, and that is air traffic control audio, where a controller says, oh, Adam, shift after the helicopter and plane crash, giving direction to other planes immediately, or the air traffic controller, you know, saying, whoa, after the crash.
We have that.
We do have new air traffic control audio.
It's short, but it's back from when an earlier experience that had happened, I believe from January 28th, where there was a near helicopter crash with a plane.
And I believe this also from Reagan National.
Listen.
We had a RA, but our police ball fortress went around.
We had an RA with the helicopter traffic below us.
Okay, now that we're learning so much more than we knew before, it's hard to have this discussion knowing that these families are in pain, but we also have to have a discussion to ensure that this doesn't happen again.
We have to understand what led up to this.
We have to understand how to prevent this from happening because things like this are preventable.
67 people lost their lives, 67.
And Americans deserve answers and they deserve them fast.
And people need to know that this is not going to continue to happen.
We go back to John Solomon.
He first broke the story.
There were 19 near misses at airports across the country in 2023, which was the largest total in many, many years.
You know, in 24, so in 2024, more of the same.
It followed suit from 2023, including at Reagan National, where multiple collisions were narrowly avoided.
And federal officials had to specifically investigate closed calls between planes at Reagan National.
Then, of course, then we have the issue of other priorities.
You had Pothole Mayor Pete, Biden's transportation secretary, completely MIA in East Palestine.
He was preoccupied and had a billion-dollar initiative on, quote, renaming racist roads.
I mean, it's insane.
And climate change a top priority.
Why is climate change a top priority?
The transportation secretary should be putting the safety of people on the roads and in the air above all else.
And then the DEI programs.
It's not a secret.
It started in 2013.
DEI was prioritized over merit.
And under Obama, Federal Aviation Administration, as we've been telling you, a push to hire workers with severe intellectual disabilities and psychiatric problems.
Anyway, here to weigh in on this, we welcome back to the program.
It's been a while.
Dr. Tom Stalkop is with us, science advisor, physicist, investigative journalist, co-producer of TWA Flight 800, a documentary.
Captain Bob Young, former top safety official at TWA, senior accident investigator at TWA.
They have investigated TWA 800.
That goes back to 1996 and are incredibly well versed in these tragedies.
We now have new video that has been obtained providing the clearest angle of what happened.
And it shows the Black Hawk helicopters, red taillights flashing as quickly as it quickly flew towards this jet.
And why was it flying at such a high altitude?
I mean, I can keep going and going and going here.
Anyway, Dr. Stalkup, good to have you back.
What's your take on all of this?
Yeah, thanks, Sean.
Nice to be here.
Well, my main thought is, you know, I want to make sure we all should make sure that the NTSB is allowed to do this and let the scientists take charge here.
We can't have politics or people looking for promotion run the investigation.
Whoever the investigator in charge is, he's got to be given the authority to do what he thinks is right to, you know, keep us safe.
And, you know, the NTSB is supposed to be a non-political organization.
In practice, it is not.
And let's just hope this time, with Trump in charge, he'll make sure that the scientists get to be the ones making the decisions here.
I mean, just look at all of the near-misses that we had.
You would think that that's the canary in the coal mine and this FAA report warning very, very specifically that they were turning away qualified people in the name of DEI, but more importantly, warning about the lack of safety and training and the shortage of people.
How much of a challenge, you know, why is all of this happening?
It really does raise a lot of red flags.
Captain Bob Young.
Well, thank you, sir.
I'd like to just speak a little bit about what the American crew might have experienced.
Probably they had a runway change very shortly before they arrived in the airport area.
They originally probably expected runway one, and they were given runway 33, which causes them to go out over the Potomac quite a bit further and lower.
They were probably notified about the helicopter.
I'm not sure about that, but I suspect they were.
However, their feeling, I'm sure, was that they were on IFR clearance instrument flight rules, and they expected the ATC, the air traffic control folks, to provide them separation from the helicopter.
So they were concentrating on landing on runway 33, which is only 5,200 feet long at night.
And by the way, just to be clear, a jet on track for landing takes precedence over any other vehicle in the sky.
Is that true?
Well, I think what happened here is that the controller had a departure that he needed to get out, and he put the departure on runway one, which is the longer runway, and routed the American flight to runway 33 so he could get the departure, which I think was in the video, actually, get the departure off.
Runway 33 is probably the most challenging jet runway at Reagan.
It's normally used for arrivals, but rarely, very rarely used for departures.
Yeah, well, I think that gives it.
What is your reaction to all of the other information that I've brought up here about all the deficiencies that everybody was warned about, all the near misses that everybody was warned about, all the staffing shortages on top of all of the DEI applications that have been put in place for many years now?
Well, as I say, it's unfortunate that the airplane was rerooted to runway 33 because if he'd been able to land on runway 1, which is the primary runway coming from the south, if he'd have been able to land on that, he would have stayed very close to the Virginia shore of the Potomac and would have stayed away from the helicopter corridor.
Again, landing on runway 33 at night is very challenging for a jet airplane.
And I'm sure both these pilots were concentrating on that because they expected air traffic control was going to keep them separated from the helicopter.
How is it they're having staffing shortages now?
apparently going on for years.
Dr. Tom and nobody thought to fix this.
Meanwhile, you know, Pete Buddha judged for four years as transportation secretary is spending a billion dollars on racist roads and renaming them.
Right, right.
Science doesn't really care about what race you are.
You know, if you're a good scientist, no matter what race you are, you should get the job.
But the top requirement should be merit.
It should be how good are they?
If the black person has to be the smartest guy in the room, he should get the job.
And if they're not doing that, something's got to change.
And, you know, you shouldn't have to get some a job based on the color of their skin.
You know, if they're the best suited for the job, they should be the ones getting the job.
I completely agree that any kind of requirement that requires someone who's less qualified to get a high-stress job like an FAA air traffic controller.
And I bet that should be stopped immediately.
And it won't, you know, Dr. Tom, it's not going to bring comfort to the families to know that they have been chronicling all of these near misses around the country, but very specifically at Reagan National, one of the busiest airports in the country.
And the night before the D.C. crash, another airliner nearly collided with a helicopter.
And then you have the staffing issues that I keep bringing up.
Yeah, staffing's incredibly important as well.
I hear that Reagan is understaffed.
That's what I read in the New York Times today.
They need to have enough staffing, and they need to get off their shifts.
No more 10-hour shifts.
You've got to be alert.
I mean, I do programming here.
Around 5 o'clock, I've got to head home.
I can't stay late or else I'm going to do something wrong writing some software.
And the same thing, you're watching an air traffic control radar screen.
We're human.
We need sleep.
And if they're not getting enough sleep, they've got to get their staffing levels up.
That's a problem.
They've got to address that immediately.
You know, Captain Young, there was an article in the UK Telegraph about an aspiring air traffic controller who claims he was denied a job because a diversity target said the aviation agency's obsession with inclusion made an accident likely to happen.
And yet they're still short-staffed.
I read this story.
This guy's name is Andrew Abruguida.
He scored 100% in his training exam, but claims he was denied a position to be an air traffic controller because of the recruitment process at the FAA was practicing DEI.
And I'm like, well, they're understaffed.
I mean, you would think you would take anybody that's fully qualified.
You got 100% on a test.
You sound like a good candidate to me.
Well, he certainly does.
And again, you know, I can't comment on that because I'm not familiar with his particular story.
But what I will say is that we can now hope with the new Secretary of Transportation and the Trump administration that we bear down on this issue about understaffing in the FAA air traffic control towers and centers, by the way, and other FAA facilities.
So hopefully with a new regime, we'll be on our way to correcting these problems.
I don't know.
It was in the first line of defense, hiring enough people and the right people and training them the right way.
Well, certainly.
And again, air traffic control controllers are under tremendous stress.
And it's a very stressful job.
And their washout rate, as I recall, at their FAA training facility, which is in Oklahoma City, is right around 30%.
So it's a very challenging job.
And again, it's the kind of job that we should get the best people possible without other considerations.
And hopefully our new regime in Washington will carry out that edict.
I think that's a good point.
All right, quick break.
We'll come back.
More on this terrible tragedy out of D.C. We'll continue with Dr. Tom Stowkup and Captain Bob Young.
We'll also get to your calls.
Also, my interview with JD Vance coming up and much more.
And we'll talk about moms behind the group Maha, Make America Healthy Again.
And they are pouring out big-time support for RFK Jr.
and a lot of pressure being brought to bear on senators in Washington.
We'll continue.
Hey there, I'm Mary Catherine Hammond and I'm Carol Markowitz.
We've been in political media for a long time.
Long enough to know that it's gotten, well, a little insane.
That's why we started Normally, a podcast for people who are over the hysteria and just want clarity.
We talk about the issues that actually matter to the country without panic, without yelling, and with a healthy dose of humor.
We don't take ourselves too seriously, but we do take the truth seriously.
So if you're into common sense, sanity, and some occasional sass, you're our kind of people.
Catch new episodes of Normally every Tuesday and Thursday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you listen.
Percent off.
All right, we continue now analyzing this terrible crash that took place in our nation's capital.
What could have been done to prevent this from happening?
We continue with Dr. Tom Stalkup and Captain Bob Young.
Dr. Stowkup, you know, if you want a job as an air traffic controller, you better have skills of multitasking.
You better have fast decision-making capability.
You better have the ability to juggle multiple things at a time because this is not a simple, easy job.
You're dealing with multiple aircraft, you know, coming into your area that you have to communicate with, and then you're watching landings and takeoffs, and then you got the added pressure from the airlines.
They want to get off on time and land on time.
And so there is a it's only a special type of person that you're looking for for this kind of job.
That's right.
You know, maybe someone from the military, you know, someone who's, you know, healthy, gets enough sleep, not on a mind-altering substance, you know, someone who has it together.
And, you know, you can't really bring ageism into this.
Actually, you kind of have to because, you know, you can't have a 90-year-old FAA controller.
I'm sorry, you know, I know I'm getting older.
I'm in my 50s now, and I'm noticing changes in myself.
And, you know, we need some smart, you know, strong, healthy people running these stressful jobs.
And it's just, you know, you just can't.
The thinking's got to change.
And it's been a long time coming, and I'm glad that thinking is starting to change.
Captain Young, can you explain why this helpless Black Hawk was flying too high by a lot?
It has a 200-foot limit.
It's not very complicated to understand.
Why was it flying so high?
Do you have any theory on that?
Well, no, I don't.
Again, it's a very congested area, as you're well aware.
And especially at night on a very clear night like this was, the city lights are overwhelming because they're on both sides.
And again, I haven't seen any actual verification of exactly what altitude he was, but I have been appraised to the fact that he was above the 200-foot normal limit.
So again, why he was above that is probably going to be revealed during an investigation, hopefully.
Well, we appreciate your expertise, both of you, and our prayers still go out to the families.
But it sounds like we have an urgent matter that's got to be dealt with quickly, and that's to keep the skies and our country safe.
And I don't think anybody in America knew how bad this was.
Anyway, Captain Bob Young, thank you.
And Dr. Tom Stalkubb, thank you.
We appreciate your time.
January 27th was International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
It's a day to remember the great evil of the Holocaust, millions of Jews slaughtered during the Nazi reign of terror.
And today we see nothing but a rise in global anti-Semitism.
We see it domestically on college campuses in the halls of Congress.
And the attacks on Israel show us that it is as important as ever to remember the atrocities of the Holocaust to ensure that it never, ever happens again.
I have proudly partnered on this show we have with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
And in spite of the fact the administration has changed, you know, they are providing literally food and shelter and bare necessities and medicines to tens and tens of thousands of Israelis that have been displaced, including, by the way, remaining Holocaust survivors.
Whatever you can do, whatever you can donate today will help provide that food, water, shelter, medicine, bare necessities to these people that are in desperate need.
Anyway, show your support as they fight a seven-front war against radical Islamic terrorists.

It's going to take a couple of months until Congress comes up with their reconciliation bills.
They're debating one bill or two bills, one big beautiful bill or two bills.
And that means we're still living under the Harris Biden disastrous economy.
That means it's a bumpy ride.
It's always a tough transition.
And it takes time for new policies to kick into place, except when it comes to Trump and the border and a lot of other issues.
But putting that aside and getting rid of DEI and woke.
But we have a new president.
And, you know, however, on economic issues, it's going to take time.
And stock market volatility is back.
Credit card.
You know, we have more people paying bare minimums on their credit cards than ever before.
That means defaults will probably be coming.
We still have these global conflicts that need to be resolved.
And, you know, on top of all of this, a national debt that is putting a tremendous pressure on our economy.
Now, it's going to take time.
And one of the things that I have done over the years as somebody that does not believe and trust the stock market that much is ever since I'm in my late 20s, when I was first able to save money, somebody, and I don't remember who I should, got to me and said, just take a percentage of your savings and put it in gold and silver.
Now, this week, gold hit another record high.
And I've done this all my adult life, and it's gone through its highs and lows, and I've always held on to it.
And I'm glad I did.
And that's where Goldco comes in.
They are now my company, the company I go to when I buy gold and silver.
And they will offer any of you, because they want you to do your due diligence, be an informed investor.

So there is, you know, we've been watching all week, you know, two hearings with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
and the hearings yesterday.
My favorite line out of all the hearings was Kash Patel saying, fine, continue.
You have two minutes.
And it was because he was looking at the clock, which was hilarious.
We're going to show some of the funnier moments tonight on TV.
And then, of course, Tulsi Gabbard.
And, you know, Democrats, I told you they have gotten over the denial and fear stage and they have reverted to form, which is just going back to the only thing they know, which is the Trump derangement syndrome, rage syndrome.
And they're taking it out on all of these nominees.
And I think a president has a right in the case of Donald Trump with the mandate that he has, that he should have the cabinet of his choice.
There's nothing that has come out in these hearings that I find disqualifying about any of them, quite to the contrary.
I think he's made some phenomenal choices.
And some of these exchanges, especially with Tulsi Cash and RFK Jr.
and earlier Pete Eggset, were just absurd.
I don't know how many more times RFK Jr.
can say he's not going to take away the polio vaccine or the measles vaccine or that he said he's going to give Americans choices.
He's not going to take away McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Coke, pizza, a pretty big staple of Donald Trump's diet.
He's not taking it away.
But he's also going to try to address with information that is non-farmer-based information about health and wellness and fitness and nutrition, which is good for every American.
I mean, we have to ask some tough questions.
If red diet number three, which Biden canceled, was shown to cause cancer in animals, okay, well, why didn't we, why didn't our government tell us about this sooner?
Why did our government lie about the COVID vaccine when it was emergency authorization?
If you take the jab, you're not going to get COVID.
If you take the jab, you won't infect others.
None of that turned out to be true.
Or if you believed in some of the therapies that were being offered, oh, you were demonized like no tomorrow, including the founder and the creator of the technology that even allowed for these vaccines to be created, poor Dr. Robert Malone.
It's pretty unbelievable.
As the attacks on RFK Jr.
have ratcheted up, so has his support.
And there is a group of moms that have come together and they're becoming a force of nature.
And it's called, you know, Make America Healthy Again.
It's a movement.
Moms for Make America Healthy Again.
Anyway, Caroline Carolero is with us, a health and wellness expert.
And she founded a health and wellness company called Dairy Nori, I believe.
And they make all natural health products.
They're gearing up for record demand because Americans now are paying.
Look, we have an obesity problem.
We have a diabetes problem.
We have a heart disease problem.
We have a cancer problem.
Why do men in Japan live 10 years longer than men in America?
Why do I work out like crazy?
Why does Jillia Michaels yell at me?
You know, why has she got me now using knickknack for nicotine versus vaping?
Because, you know, she doesn't want chemicals going into my body.
I'm not saying it was the smartest thing I do, but I do work out like crazy every day.
And I eat basically a very keto-friendly diet of meat and eggs and a little bit of vegetables.
And she added the vegetables.
Anyway, Caroline, welcome to the program.
Thanks for having me, Sean.
Yeah, it's exactly right.
And just taking a big step back, I mean, the big win in this is obviously we want to get RFK Jr.
confirmed, but and to your point, he's more than qualified.
There's nothing that came up in these hearings that shouldn't qualify him.
But what we can't forget is that what he has done here, when you take a big step back, is he's opened a dialogue in America that needed to be open decades ago.
And what's crazy about this one is that this is a dialogue that historically would have been owned by the Democrats and they failed on.
And so here we are facing, you know, 74% of American adults are overweight or obese.
And then critical, and you'll hear him communicate this so much, which has captivated parents and particularly moms, has been to drill into the fact that because 70% of children's calories are coming from highly processed foods, there's a ripple effect of that.
And what is that ripple effect?
Well, 38% of our children are now pre-diabetic.
So it's very important that we state the facts plainly.
There's so much talk, right, in the hearings about these measles and polio vaccines, which he's not going to take away.
There's no question about that.
But also, let's just face the fact, before the vaccine, a few hundred people a year died from these awful things like measles and polio.
Whereas we have 220 million Americans that have chronic disease right now.
So, I mean, it's just, it's absolutely astronomical the differences.
And you don't hear Bernie Sanders and you don't hear these senators talking about obesity and heart disease.
Why?
Well, because obviously there's just a very clear follow-the-funding path that you can take.
I'm sure a lot of you have seen it and your listeners have seen it now circulating on X.
It's like a spreadsheet style of each of the senators' names and how much they've received from pharma.
And Bernie Sanders happens to be at the top, right?
Well, he was at the top, and then he got all pissed off at RFK Jr.
for pointing it out when, in fact, RFK was telling the truth and he just tried to play word games.
Exactly.
And so, you know, that's really what this is.
It's really interesting to see, too.
And you can see this through all the hearings and with this new leadership, this Trump 2.0 leadership, this leadership team, they're facing already, you know, with this awful plane crash and these awful issues that are going on.
They're facing some huge challenges.
And they're calm, cool, and collective.
They're together.
They are very clear.
They're making as much progress as they can every single day.
And they're not losing their cool.
Meanwhile, these senators, I mean, it is comedy.
I mean, it's mean worthy.
Oh, my gosh.
Did you see Elizabeth Warren losing her mind?
They're just losing their minds.
Well, why?
Because they're wrong and they're lying, right?
And so they're not at peace and they can't keep their cool because they know that this is their last leg, right?
These guys are on their way out.
There's no way that we can continue to run a country with this type of leadership.
And that's what they're feeling.
Meanwhile, you've got Kosh, you've got Tulsi, and you've got RFK.
You know, they're sturdy, right?
They know that they're telling the truth.
The truth is on their side.
And that's a very powerful thing to have.
So when it comes to moms, I mean, the reality is that so many moms that voted Democrat voted for Donald Trump, which if you would have surveyed the same group probably 48 years ago, they would say no way in heck.
But it's because of this Maha movement.
And so you look at the voting data as well.
I mean, Donald Trump closed the gap on women and on moms because of this agenda.
So it really is something at this point that needs to be fulfilled.
Parents do not want their children to be sick.
And what's interesting about moms particularly and why they get so riled up is that moms have this super superpower that they know when they're being lied to, right?
And so moms know when they're being lied to.
If the 80 to 100 doses of vaccines, you know, over 50 different vaccines and almost 100 doses that's being recommended by the CDC to be quote unquote fully vaccinated was helping our children, we would know it.
We would know it.
There wouldn't be diabetes in children.
It's not, it's just not helping.
And so this is a very clear, factual situation that we're facing.
We're in dire need of change.
And the last thing I'll say to kind of wrap this all together is that America, we can't be great again without first being mentally and physically healthy.
When you look at this issue that we're having with like air traffic controllers and what President Trump was saying yesterday about how this is such a stressful and important job that their life expectancy is quite literally shortened by the stress of this job.
Similar with these other very high-ranking roles in the military, do you think we can have people with three or four chronic illnesses running air traffic control?
No, we can't.
You have to be at the top of your game, which means you have to be physically and mentally healthy.
And that's what this is about.
This doesn't just impact, you know, the processing and the foods and the food supplies.
This impacts our ability as a nation to perform.
It's very, very important that we make change.
We've got to make it quick because this is the sickest we've ever been.
It's really pathetic.
And on a global stage, it's quite embarrassing, to be honest.
Quick break, right back.
More with Caroline.
Carolero on the other side.
And your call is coming up 800-941-Shawn is a number.

Hang on for Sean's conservative solutions.
We continue with Caroline Parallaro, and she's with the group Moms Behind Make America Healthy Again.
You know, you're a health and wellness expert, and I, as the last 14 years, I began my journey embracing health, wellness, fitness, and now I'm really addressing nutrition.
And it began with, you know, just doing mixed martial arts one day a week.
Now I do it four or five days a week.
Now I've added riding my bike, you know, 20 minutes a day, not much, but just another thing that I do.
I changed my diet completely.
A few years back, I lost about 25 pounds.
I've been able to keep it off, although the more muscle I build, it is much harder.
And my diet changed dramatically.
And now not only do I eat organic eggs or more organic meat than anything else and organic vegetables, but I'm trying to cut out the other bad habits I have in my life.
I'm not going to be perfect, Caroline.
I'm just warning you now.
I'm only so much I can do, but I hate to see people get older and gain weight and are pre-diabetic, which can impact their cardiac health, which can cause strokes and cause cancer.
And then I look at the food.
Why won't Europe import American food?
It's hormones and its pesticides.
It's that simple.
Two words, right?
Am I wrong?
No, you're not wrong.
And it's very clear.
And then you look at the implications of these things.
We have a fertility crisis in our country.
Women are having really hard times getting pregnant.
There's so much that this impacts.
And, you know, you're exactly right.
What you've done, these changes that you've made, and the encouraging thing for all listeners that are hearing this is that no matter where you're at, right, how healthy or unhealthy you are, the human body is miraculous and it forgives us and it will change.
Your body, what we work on with our company is the gut microbiome, right?
So your digestive tract.
You can see changes when you remove these highly processed foods within a week.
I mean, your body will change, but you have to practice daily.
You have to make very hard decisions to work, you know, to get the right foods in your body and to say no to a lot of these highly addictive foods.
And that's what we need help with.
We need help.
You shouldn't have a mom.
I mean, I dedicate my whole life to this, and it takes me so long to move through a grocery store and find things that aren't riddled with trash for a child.
That's not how it should be.
That's a system working against us.
And, you know, there's a lot to say here about regulation.
And I don't like a lot of the regulation that Europe has, especially as an entrepreneur and a business owner, right?
We don't want to go full steam ahead with EU regulation.
But one thing that they got right was they got their food regulation right, at least to put a line in the sand and say, no, no, no, you're not putting that in our food.
And look, you know, you can see the Kelloggs of the world, the food that they import, or rather, that they export to Europe is different than the food that they have domestically.
And so that's really what it's about.
It's just about us saying, we know that these things are harmful.
We're not going to allow them into our food.
To your point, and your opener there, you know, RFK Jr.
said it.
Donald Trump likes McDonald's.
That's fine.
We're not going to take away that food from people.
However, we have to address the fact that, you know, the 20 plus million children who are on federal-funded school lunch programs should not be.

That's right.

It's just truth.
It's telling the truth.
That's all it is.
That's exactly each of these.
And that's what he's promised us.
Information, non-pharmaceutical, on health, wellness, fitness, and nutrition, which is your wheelhouse.
Boy, you and Jillian Michaels, I'm never putting you two in a room ganging up against me.
It would be brutal.
She's doing phenomenal work, and she's been such a force for this movement.
It's awesome to see people.
Oh, she's great.
All right.
The moms behind Make America Healthy Again.
Now, if you want to call your senators, I always ask you to do it respectfully.
The number, the hotline, and maybe we'll do more of this on Monday when these votes get scheduled and tell them how you feel about RFK and cash and Tulsi.
It's 202-224-3121.
We'll probably give out the number a lot more next week.
